Catholic Traditionalism

En un período de 10 años, entre 1962 y 1971, se sintieron una serie de cambios socioculturales a nivel mundial como nunca en la historia de la humanidad desde la Encarnación de Cristo.
Un hombre podía identificarse con su padre o su abuelo en la enorme mayoría de sus gustos y en su forma de vida, pero en determinado momento esto ya no fue así. Se produjo un ​quiebre generacional infranqueable. Y esto ocurrió en ese período de tiempo.

Treffen der Ärztevereinigung St. Lukas
Schon zum zweiten Mal versammelte sich am 10. und 11. Oktober im deutschen Distriktsitz der Priesterbruderschaft St. Pius X. in Stuttgart ein gutes Dutzend Ärzte, Pflegefachkräfte und Medizinstudenten. Zum einen, um sich zwei Tage mit der Palliativmedizin auseinanderzusetzen, aber auch, um den bisher informellen Treffen katholischer Ärzte und anderer Angehöriger des Gesundheitswesens (Apotheker,
Pflegekräfte, Arzthelferinnen, Hebammen etc.) einen festen Rahmen zu geben:
Während des Treffens wurde die Vereinsgründung der „Ärztevereinigung St. Lukas - Katholiken im Gesundheitswesen“ vorgenommen. Ich schulde ich eine Erklärung, weswegen ich den Artikel auch unter den Stichworten „ORTHODOX pastoral theology  /-church development  /- church growth“ aufführe: Gemeindeaufbau/Gemeindewachstum sind innerhalb der 4 christlichen Konfessionsgruppen (orthodox, römisch-katholisch, reformatorisch hochkirchlich/landeskirchlich) weitgehend von denselben Grundprinzipien getragen, die zum einen aus der inneren Natur des Evangeliums folgen – zum Beispiel ist die einzige Informationsquelle, die wir über Jesus Christus haben, das Neue Testament und insbesondere die Evangelien, daher werden in jeder christlichen Konfession notwendig die Evangelien studiert werden müssen und wo dies wiederum nicht geschieht (oder, was sicher noch schlimmer ist, unter den Prämissen von säkularer Bibelkritik, die sich seit dem 18. Jahrhundert insbesondere in den deutschsprachigen Landeskirchen entwickelt hat, so werden Christen keine „besseren“ Christen werden und Nichtchristen nicht Jesus als Herrn annehmen. Das folgt nicht aus dogmatischen oder moralischen Lehren – mit ihren starke konfessionelle Unterschieden- - sondern aus den Bedürfnissen – der „Natur“ – des Menschen. Um es säkular-wissenschaftlich auszudrücken (ich habe den größten Teil der Ausbildung zum Psychiater absolviert, ehe ich mich nach einer Zusatzausbildung in kognitiver Verhaltenstherapie dann doch für die Allgemeinmedizin entschieden habe): Aus säkular-psychologischer Sicht ist eine Bekehrung eine kognitive Umstrukturierung, ein Neu-Sehen der Welt, des eigenen Lebens zusammen mit einer empirisch beschreibbaren Verhaltensänderung (natürlich ist sie etwas ganz anderes – durch die freie Erwählung Gottes werden wir offen für Jesu Botschaft, bitten um die Taufe und danach nimmt der Heilige Geist der Tröster Wohnung in uns). Säkulär sind wir da in der Kognitions- und Lernpsychologie, und soweit es um Lebenshilfe geht – wem es subjektiv gut geht, sucht nicht nach Lebens(ver)änderung – auch in den vornehmlich psychotherapeutischen Fächern. Und das ist der Bezug zu orthodoxem Gemeindeaufbau: Auch wir benötigen vergleichbare Institutionen. Bezeichnenderweise beginnen Johannes der Täufer, Jesus Christus selber und Seine Apostel ihren Predigtdienst mit dem griechischen Wort „metanoeite“ = „ändert Euren Sinn“ (in der 2018 erschienenen ersten orthodoxen Evangelienübersetzung mit dem Neologismus „umgeisten“ treffend übersetzt;  in Übersetzungen der anderen 3 genannten Konfessionen üblicherweise falsch mit „tut Buße“). Ein Hinweis, dass Gemeindeaufbau nicht „theologisch neutral“ ist (die Kirchenväter des 1. Jahrtausends der einen WACHSENDEN  ungeteilten Kirche, waren was man heute höflich wohl „unkritische Bibelfundamentalisten“ nennen würde, wir stehen damit übrigens bibeltreuen Freikirchen insgesamt am nächsten von allen 4 genannten Konfessionen). Ich befasse mich mit Gemeindeaufbau auf dem Boden der orthodoxen Kirche – DER Kirche, wie wir uns verstehen – und da Gemeindeaufbau/Gemeindewachstum in allen Konfessionen ähnlich verläuft – können die säkularen bzw. insbesondere freikirchlichen Konzepte nur „orthodoxisiert werden, aber das ist keine übermäßig schwere Arbeit, und Gemeindeaufbau ist ohnehin „Teamwork“ (bereits Jesus sandte Seine Jünger in kleinen Gruppen zum Predigen aus) und ich hole mir natürlich nach Kräften von kompetenter Seite Rat).

Answer to the objection: if Vatican II popes do not possess papal authority, how is the mission of the Church being accomplished? Isn't ecclesiastical jurisdiction a necessary condition for legitimate apostolate? How do sedevacantist clergy justify their apostolate?

Mijn bacheloronderzoek spitste zich toe op de geschiedenis van het gebruik van Hadewijchs slotwoorden 'Vaert wel ende levet scone' en varianten hiervan. Deze slotzin is oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit haar zesentwintigste brief daterend uit de eerste helft van de 13e eeuw. Is er een loskoppeling tussen deze leuze en de historische figuur van Hadewijch vast te stellen of blijven beiden verweven met elkaar? Dit ben ik te weten gekomen door de weg of 'reis' van deze leuze te traceren

In 2018, fifty years will have passed since the first reports of Marian apparitions in El Palmar de Troya in Spanish Andalusia. It will also be the fortieth anniversary of the coronation of the seer Clemente Domínguez Gómez as Pope Gregory XVII, and the consequent foundation of the Palmarian Catholic Church. Still, placing the papal tiara on his head was only seen as a human act of confirmation. He asserted that Christ himself had crowned him just after the death of Pope Paul VI.

This book provides a broad overview of the history of the apparitions at El Palmar de Troya and the church that became its main result. It also includes a more systematic analysis of the church’s increasingly unusual doctrines and rituals. Through the study, I try to answer two underlying questions: First, which factors contributed to the foundation of the Palmarian Church?  Second, how has the church survived and developed through its four decades of existence?

Chi si serve oggi del medioevo? Tutti.
La politica attuale lo usa come una miniera da cui estrarre esempi e modelli ritenuti utili per capire il presente. Identificato con i «secoli bui», il medioevo è presentato come modello perfetto per spiegarci i «nuovi barbari», lo «scontro di civiltà» e il terrore che il nostro mondo stia per finire. Al contrario, se considerato come il tempo dei cavalieri e delle origini eroiche, il medioevo assume una funzione mitica per moltissimi gruppi politici e comunità organizzate, che lo usano per affermare la propria originale identità.
Questa attualizzazione del medioevo, spesso una vera e propria invenzione delle tradizioni, va sotto il nome di «medievalismo». La sua analisi è una chiave nuova e inusuale per leggere la società contemporanea e gli indirizzi che sta percorrendo.
Dalla militanza politica allo svago new age, dai tornei cittadini al tradizionalismo identitario cattolico, fino ai richiami alle origini dell'Europa unita e alla mitologia della Lega Nord, Tommaso di Carpegna propone con gli strumenti del medievista, ma con lo sguardo puntato all'attualità, un appassionante percorso che si snoda dagli anni Sessanta e raggiunge i drammatici giorni degli attentati in Norvegia del «templare » Breivik.

Le catholicisme intégriste / traditionaliste est une tendance, une forme, ou encore une modalité du catholicisme, interprétable historiquement comme une branche du catholicisme intransigeant ou de l'intransigeantisme catholique, lequel, dans une pensée apocalyptique (lutte de Dieu et son Église contre Satan et ses suppôts, précisément identifiés : francs-maçons, socialistes, libéraux, juifs, protestants…), rejette la modernité philosophique, politique, économique et sociale au profit d'une société reconstruite sur des bases catholiques par des militants organisés sous la conduite de la hiérarchie. Il est le résidu de cet intransigeantisme désormais minoritaire.

Vatican II a très vite fait l'objet d'une contestation proprement théologique. SI les auteurs ne sont pas des professionnels de la théologie, ils développent un discours dont la dimension contestatrice s'accentue avec le temps. Leur approche historique et herméneutique conduit à voir en Vatican II un ralliement à la modernité et au modernisme.

This paper overviews Othmar Spann's overall theory of "Universalism", his anti-individualist sociological theories of "spiritual community", his spiritual and community-based theories of nation and race, his concept of the traditional "True State", his anti-democratic elitism, his corporatist economics and critique of Marxism and capitalism. It also summarizes his influence on different political groups and intellectuals and their reaction to him (Austro-Fascists, National Socialists, Marxists, Traditionalists, New Rightists).

In the early 1980s, Cardinal Ratzinger and Archbishop Lefebvre undertook a correspondence concerning the reception of the texts of the Second Vatican Council and the liturgical rites promulgated by Pope Paul VI. In contrast to Lefebvre’s hermeneutical emphasis on the individual drafters of the documents, Ratzinger proposed that these texts and rites should be understood not as the productions of individuals but as documents of the Magisterium and liturgical rites of the Church. In this essay, Ratzinger’s distinction is explored further by appeal to the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas, who offers helpful indications for understanding the respective roles of individuals and the Church as a whole in the development of liturgical and doctrinal expressions of the faith of the Church. The essay concludes by proposing a language of “ecclesial authorship” of magisterial and liturgical texts that emphasizes the continuity that abides in the reform and development of the Church’s liturgy and doctrine.

In the decades and centuries that followed the crucifixion, Christianity gradually took root and established itself as a world religion, especially in Europe and the Near East, but also in Africa and Asia. It reached its highpoint in what we now call the Middle Ages. 
It was in this epoch that the mystical orders such as the Franciscans and Dominicans flourished; schools of thought such as the Thomist (Aristotelian) and the Eckhartian (Platonic); artistic styles such as the Romanesque and the Gothic; sages and saints such as Francis of Assisi, Albertus Magnus, Bernard of Clairvaux, and Dante Alighieri. Not to mention the universities, hospitals, and other institutions the Church established.
Thereafter there have been three “revolutions”, each of which greatly changed the face of Christendom. The first was the “Renaissance” (fifteenth century); the second the “Enlightenment” (eighteenth century); and the third and most catastrophic the Vatican II Council (twentieth century).

La recepción de Julius Evola en la Argentina es uno de los ejes principales de esta comunicación, enmarcada en un interés más general por el devenir del nacionalismo y la "extrema derecha" locales durante la posdictadura. Sobre todo, por la renovación de sus referentes, prácticas y formas de intervención... de haberse producido alguna. Desde ya, éste sería uno entre muchos nombres propios posibles, los cuales habrían sido apropiados junto con la biblioteca de la un tanto genéricamente denominada "Nueva Derecha". No obstante, se trataría de un caso potencialmente útil, ya que ha ameritado numerosos estudios, traducciones y polémicas, al tiempo que ha inspirado iniciativas de diverso calibre no sólo en Argentina, sino en buena parte de Iberoamérica. Pero la recepción de Evola, ¿se limita al Centro de Estudios Evolianos y la Editorial Heracles, fuera del cual sólo habría réplicas que oscilarían entre lo superficial y lo hostil? ¿O acaso otras recepciones igualmente relevantes han permanecido soterradas?

Resulta trillado afirmar que la guerra de Malvinas tuvo un profundo impacto en la sociedad argentina. Las extremas derechas no fueron una excepción, en tanto la contienda actualizó los argumentos desplegados frente a la violencia política de los setenta al tiempo que trajo una
frustración sin precedentes. El nacionalismo territorial, el pretorianismo, el catolicismo ultramontano, el revisionismo histórico y otras tramas del pensamiento reaccionario vernáculo debieron emprender entonces la penosa tarea de hacer inteligible la debacle. Paradójicamente, esta dramática coyuntura —y los procesos de memorialización que conllevó— se convirtieron en uno de los pocos elementos compartidos por una constelación largamente signada por la división y la fragmentariedad. Como la «conspiración judía internacional», la conflagración del Atlántico Sur se habría vuelto un mito, tanto en el sentido soreliano como en el antropológico del término. Para acercarse a él, este artículo abordará su tratamiento en las revistas Cabildo, Verbo y Alerta Nacional.

Esta tesis se propone explorar los itinerarios de las extremas derechas argentinas entre el final del “Proceso de Reorganización Nacional” y los primeros años del siglo XXI. Si bien las investigaciones sobre el devenir de estas corrientes han abundado, el período posterior a 1983 sólo ha ameritado abordajes tentativos por parte de los académicos y tratamientos de calidad dispar en sede periodística. Detrás de este relativo desinterés podría atisbarse el presupuesto de que estos sectores se habrían vuelto progresivamente marginales al permanecer virtualmente iguales a sí mismos tanto en lo ideológico como en lo político y lo organizacional. Un argumento por cierto atendible, pero que necesariamente debe ser contrastado con sus experiencias en los ochenta y noventa.

El artículo sostiene que el sacerdote y político peruano Bartolomé Herrera (1808-1864) debe interpretarse entre líneas. Aunque sus escritos aparentan reflejar a un político de ideas conservadoras, en realidad se trataría de un seguidor de la Escuela Teológica francesa (Joseph de Maistre, Louis de Bonald, Agustin Barruel) que habría adaptado las ideas reaccionarias de esta escuela filosófica en la búsqueda de un republicanismo no liberal para el Perú.

Reinhard Mehring who is an extensive biographer of Carl Schmitt claims in a contribution to the recently published Oxford Handbook on Carl Schmitt, that Schmitt was no representative of political Catholicism. I challenge this claim through alluding to a reference made in one of Schmitt's most famous writings on the Roman Catholic Church, his 1923 essay "Roman Catholicism and Political Form". Within the essay, there is a curious reference to an obscure Breton writer of the 19th c. Renouveau Catholique literature reveals Schmitt as a perceived 'outsider' to mainstream Catholicism. The ‘Renouveau Catholique’ phenomenon, referred to by Richard Griffiths as a “Reactionary Revolution” is linked to the earlier conservative political theory of Catholics such as Joseph de Maistre. This conservative political Catholicism which is also preoccupied with divine authority and judgement, is approved by Schmitt in his writing. Thus, there is an observable continuity of a political tradition originating in the counter-revolutionary thought of de Maistre to Schmitt into the 20th c. via Renouveau Catholique literature.

Il presente saggio, traendo spunto dalle reazioni seguite alle recenti voci di abrogazione o ridimensionamento del m.p. "Summorum Pontificum", riafferma la distinzione tra titolarità di un potere e qualità del suo esercizio, ricostruisce la storia del Messale del 1962 dopo la promulgazione di quello paolino come un caso di "lex non acceptata a populo", analizza il "Summorum Pontificum" sia mettendolo a confronto con l'indulto anteriore sia mostrando senso e ragionevolezza della distinzione "forma ordinaria"/"forma extraordinaria". Non mancano riflessioni sui rapporti tra il m.p. in questione e il più ampio problema dottrinale

This article is dedicated to the phenomenon of Catholic traditionalism and the perspectives of its development in France, Germany and the United States. After presenting of general data describing its most important branches: movement gathering around the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X and the indult movement, the results of statistical analysis concerning the above-mentioned countries were discussed. According to the number of French, American and German priests and seminarians in traditionalist institutes and priestly fraternities and the number of places where Masses are celebrated in the classic rite, a high level of development of these movements was discovered in mentioned countries. Analysis of the dynamics of changes in these indicators helped to formulate the thesis of the rapid development of the traditionalist movements in the United States, alongside their fast growth in France and slow growth in Germany in recent years. In the conclusion the author claims that the existence and development of the Catholic traditionalism in the described countries shows that contemporary religion in Western countries do not have to assume the "invisible" or privatized forms.

Niniejszy tekst poświęcony jest skali zjawiska tradycjonalizmu katolickiego oraz perspektywom jego rozwoju we Francji, Niemczech i Stanach Zjednoczonych. Po przedstawieniu ogólnych danych dotyczących jego dwóch najistotniejszych nurtów: ruchu skupionego wokół Bractwa Kapłańskiego św. Piusa X oraz ruchu indultowego, przedstawiono wyniki analizy statystyk dotyczących wyżej wymienionych krajów. Na podstawie liczby francuskich, amerykańskich i niemieckich księży oraz kleryków w tradycjonalistycznych instytutach i bractwach kapłańskich oraz ilości miejsc, w których odprawiane są msze w rycie klasycznym, stwierdzono wysoki poziom rozwoju wspomnianych ruchów na obszarze tych państw. Natomiast analiza dynamiki zmian wymienionych wskaźników pozwoliła  sformułować tezę o gwałtownym rozwoju środowisk tradycjonalistycznych w Stanach Zjednoczonych, szybkim w wypadku Francji oraz powolnym w przypadku Niemiec w ostatnich latach. W podsumowaniu podkreślono, że trwanie i rozwój tradycjonalizmu katolickiego w opisywanych państwach jest istotnym przykładem na to, iż współcześnie religia w krajach zachodnich wcale nie musi  przyjmować „niewidzialnej” bądź sprywatyzowanej formy.

Данная публикация отражает основные аспекты научного проекта «Католическая Церковь после II Ватиканского собора: поиск идентичности» (руководитель Д.Г. Ларионов, № госрегистрации в БелИСА 20113053), который выполняется в рамках Государственной программы научных исследований «История белорусской государственности и культуры» на 2011 – 2015 гг. (ГПНИ «История, культура, общество, государство»). Цель проекта заключается в выявлении роли и места различных идейных течений в Католической Церкви, их способности влиять на определение политики Церкви и Ватикана; внесение предложений по возможной оптимизации взаимодействия государства и Католической Церкви в Республике Беларусь. Достижение поставленной цели предполагает решение следующих задач:
• провести анализ изменений в социальной, политической, культурной и иных сферах жизнедеятельности Католической Церкви после II Ватиканского собора (1962 – 1965 гг.);
• выявить причины и специфику противоречий между реформаторскими и консервативными кругами Католической Церкви в послесоборный период;
• обосновать неизбежность неоконсервативного поворота в политике Церкви в период понтификата Иоанна Павла II;
• провести анализ альтернативных официальной позиции Ватикана проектов места и роли Церкви в современном мире (предлагаемых как радикальными реформаторами, так и радикальными консерваторами в Церкви);
• выявить место, которое Католическая Церковь занимает в истории человечества в современных условиях;
• спрогнозировать возможные пути развития Католической Церкви, ее роли в социально-политических процессах, взаимодействия с государствами и гражданским обществом.
Результат выполнения темы НИР должен подтвердить авторскую концепцию, что преобразования в Католической Церкви, последовавшие за II Ватиканским собором усугубили кризис в церкви и привели к утрате Ватиканом своего авторитета и влияния. На этом фоне наиболее последовательными сторонниками возрождения влияния Церкви и папства в мире являются католические традиционалисты.
