Stephen Larson
Stephen G. Larson is a former federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He joined the court in 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. He resigned on November 2, 2009.[1]
Larson resigned from the court on November 2, 2009. According to an article published by the American Bar Association, Judge Larson said that the salary of federal judges is not enough to support his family, which includes seven children. Larson criticized Congress for failing to act on pay increases for federal judges.[2][3]
Early life and education
A native Californian, Larson graduated from Georgetown University with his bachelor's degree in 1986 and graduated from the University of Southern California Law School with his J.D. degree in 1989.
Career
Larson began his legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of California. Larson joined the U.S. Attorney's office as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, where he worked from 1991 before becoming a full-tenured federal magistrate judge in 2000.
Larson has also had academic teaching experience, as a adjunct assistant professor at the Glendale College of Law from 1997 to 2001 and as an instructor at California Southern Law School from 2001 to 2005. He also performed as an adjunct professor at the University of LaVerne College of Law since 2002.
Federal judicial career
Larson was nominated to the Central District of California by President George W. Bush on December 15, 2005 to a seat vacated by Judge Robert Timlin. Larson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 16, 2006, and received commission on March 20, 2006.[4]
