Micaela Alvarez is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. She was nominated by President George W. Bush on June 16, 2004. She assumed senior status on June 8, 2023.[1]
Education
Alvarez graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with her bachelor's degree in 1980 and her J.D. degree in 1989.[1]
Professional career
Alvarez was a private practice attorney in the State of Texas from 1989 to 1995 and again from 1997 to 2004. Alvarez served on the 139th Judicial District Court in Hidalgo County, Texas from 1995 to 1996.[1]
Judicial career
Southern District of Texas
On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey-Hutchinson, Alvarez was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas by President George W. Bush on June 16, 2004, to a seat vacated by Judge David Hittner as Hittner assumed senior status. Alvarez was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 20, 2004, and received commission on December 13, 2004.[2][3] She assumed senior status on June 8, 2023.[1]
