GROWTH METRICS?

MULTIPLE MEASURES READY REPORTS™

Fractional Performance Level™ (FPL™) Our propriety FPL™ growth metric uses scaled score ranges associated with each performance level (per grade level) to find each student's performance, to the hundredth, within a band. We then use the difference between fractional scores in adjacent years/terms to compute CHANGE in relative position "between the bands".This growth measurement quantifies each student's improvement or decline “between the bands”, adjusted to their pre and post grade-levels. When this change is measured over an instructional period (e.g. academic year), it quantifies the Instructional Impact of both the teacher and the school system. Both pupil and aggregate reports are available.

FPL™ (Fractional Performance Level™) and FPL™ Change. We track each student, and each test, “between the bands” • … to the 100th of a performance level, based on grade-level cut-scores. We graphically highlight fractional growth/regression. • We quantify term-to-term and year-over-year growth. • Gains & losses are measured and apparent, regardless of each student’s actual achievement level. • Provides revealing insights for high achievers that are slipping, and low achievers making progress. We summarize FPL™ Change for classrooms, grade-levels, schools, districts, and subgroups. • Clearly see achievement gaps measured by both performance and change.

Distance From Standard (DFS) DFS is widely used in California as the foundation of the California School Dashboard, but is relevant for any test that uses scale scores to determine if a student has met standard/mastery/proficiency. For example, a DFS of +26 means that the student's performance is 26 points above the minimum score possible to achieve proficiency (for their grade level). We then use the difference between DFS scores in adjacent years to compute the change in DFS, relative to their grade level. This growth measurement quantifies each student's improvement or decline, in scale score points, adjusted to their pre and post grade-levels.
