As a layman myself in this area it is still very difficult for me to believe that Einstein was a plagiarist in any way. Anti Semitism was certainly a more prevalent and more powerful entity during his time and I cannot accept the idea that his academic peers, and any talented critics, would not have completely reviewed Einstein’s work for any possible measure of dishonesty or professional inaccuracy. It would have been virtually impossible for him to escape such focused review of his work.

It is the essence of both situations. If you grab for the loaded firearm of any other man you are very likely to be shot. If the firearm in question is an AR-15 you are very likely to die as well. This truth is outside any question of right or wrong, it is an undeniable fact.

The conviction of these white men would then open the doorway for more prosecutions of other white men when they respond accordingly in a similar situation. Your additional reference to the ‘greedy bastards’…….’who are not Americans at heart’, is also right on the money, on both the left and the right of our political spectrum.

I worked in a pork processing facility in South Philadelphia in the mid 1970’s and again in the early 1980’s. The pay was excellent and the work was dirty, hard, physically demanding and very boring. The men, however, benefited from a life style which they had earned through enduring the many rigors of a very tough work place. There were nice cars in the parking lot, nice clothing after they changed out of their uniforms, and nice homes in the city or suburbs as they had the financial choice to live in either area.

In 1984 the company laid off the majority of our work force, putting men on the street for about six months, thus necessitating the union to approach the company, hat in hand, to renegotiate the current union contract.

I was very fortunate. As one of the few employees with a college degree I was able to make a nice lateral move to a different industry, where I am still employed. The rest of the men were not so lucky. The renegotiated wage was approximately 30 % lower than what the average employee had been making ! A 30 % cut in wage !

The place reopened, briefly, for 4-5 years and then shut down completely, shifting production to a sister facility in another state. I have no idea what happened to most of my co-workers, some of them functionally illiterate, but I doubt that the results were positive. Good men, put on the street because of the avarice of the wealthy. What a fucking surprise.

The very first rule I apply to any time on a bicycle is to avoid automobiles and trucks at all times, if at all possible. Sometimes I break traffic laws, carefully, when I do this, but always to maintain my own safety and to not compromise the safety of the motorists nearby. Here, in the Philly suburbs, I rarely ride anymore, it is just too dangerous. I have had far too many close calls with idiotic drivers. I would suggest to non-cyclists a simple recognition regarding the above philosophy; that is, in a collision between a cyclist and a motor vehicle, the cyclist always loses, regardless of who was right or wrong on the roadway. I make no excuses for cyclists who ride like morons themselves. They deserve no excuses.

Went through the EXACT same experience in South Philadelphia. I was lucky. I had a college degree and Philly has opportunities of a lateral-move nature. The poor bastards left out, many of them good, hard working men and women, those without a degree or youth on their side, were just abandoned by the company they had worked for, often for decades. Fuck ’em, right ? Who needs ’em………..their spouses, their children, their grandchildren…….. Why maintain traditional America when greedy bigshots can destroy it easily while they fatten their own profits and waistlines. Sick.

Work is almost everything. Work and character. While we have many such people who embrace a solid work ethic, as Jim, still in this country, we seem to have abandoned the necessity of work in actually building character in men and women. President Trump is pointing our nation in such a direction and look at the slander he endures in so doing.
