The massacre of almost 50 Maidan protesters on February 20, 2014 was a turning point in Ukrainian politics and a tipping point in the conflict between the West and Russia over Ukraine. This mass killing of the protesters and the mass shooting of the police that preceded it led to the overthrow of the pro-Russian government of Viktor Yanukovych and gave a start to a civil war in Donbas in Eastern Ukraine, Russian military intervention in Crimea and Donbas, and an international conflict between the West and Russia over Ukraine. A conclusion promoted by the post-Yanukovych governments and the media in Ukraine that the massacre was perpetrated by government snipers and special police units on a Yanukovych order has been nearly universally accepted by the Western governments, the media, and many scholars. The Ukrainian government investigation identified members of the special company of Berkut as responsible for killings of the absolute majority of the protesters, but did not release any evidence in support, with the exception of videos of the massacre.
              The question is which side organized the “snipers’ massacre.” This paper is the first academic study of this crucial case of the mass killing. It uses a theory of rational choice and a Weberian theory of instrumental rationality to examine actions of major actors both from the Yanukovych government, specifically various police and security forces, and the Maidan opposition, specifically its far right and oligarchic elements, during the massacre.
          The paper analyzes a large amount of evidence from different publicly available sources concerning this massacre and killings of specifics protesters. Qualitative content analysis includes the following data: about 1,500 videos and recordings of live internet and TV broadcasts from mass media and social media in different countries(some 150 gigabytes), news reports and social media posts by more than 100 journalists covering the massacre from Kyiv, some 5,000 photos, and nearly 30 gigabytes of publicly available radio intercepts of snipers and commanders from the special Alfa unit of the Security Service of Ukraine and Internal Troops, and Maidan massacre trial recordings. This study also employs field research on site of the massacre, eyewitness reports by both Maidan protesters and government special units commanders, statements by both former and current government officials, estimates of approximate ballistic trajectories, bullets and weapons used, and types of wounds among both protesters and the police. This study establishes a precise timeline for various events of the massacre, the locations of both the shooters and the government snipers, and the specific timeline and locations of nearly 50 protesters’ deaths. It also briefly analyzes other major cases of violence during and after the “Euromaidan.” This study includes two video appendixes.
            This academic investigation concludes that the massacre was a false flag operation, which was rationally planned and carried out with a goal of the overthrow of the government and seizure of power. It found various evidence of the involvement of an alliance of the far right organizations, specifically the Right Sector and Svoboda, and oligarchic parties, such as Fatherland. Concealed shooters and spotters were located in at least 20 Maidan-controlled buildings or areas. The various evidence that the protesters were killed from these locations include some 70 testimonies, primarily by Maidan protesters, several videos of “snipers” targeting protesters from these buildings, comparisons of positions of the specific protesters at the time of their killing and their entry wounds, and bullet impact signs. The study uncovered various videos and photos of armed Maidan “snipers” and spotters in many of these buildings. The paper presents implications of these findings for understanding the nature of the change of the government in Ukraine, the civil war in Donbas, Russian military intervention in Crimea and Donbas, and an international conflict between the West and Russia over Ukraine.

The low-weight newborns and especially the premature infants have difficulty in maintaining their temperature in the range considered to be normal. Several studies revealed the importance of thermal environment and moisture to increase the survival rate of newborns. This work models the process of heat exchange and energy balance in premature newborns during the first hours of life in a closed incubator. In addition, a control problem was proposed and solved in order to maintain thermal stability of premature newborns to increase their rate of survival and weight. For this purpose, we propose an algorithm to control the temperature inside the incubator. It takes into account the measurements of the body temperature of a premature newborn which are recorded continuously. We show that using this model the temperature of a premature newborn inside the incubator can be kept in a thermal stability range.

The analysis of a crime scene is a key feature in major police investigations. Arguably the most important aspect of crime scene investigations is searching for forensic evidence (traces like hair, fingerprints, or fibers for example). Forensic evidence will be a central part in the reconstruction of the crime and help determine the most likely crime scenarios. A crime scenario can be defined as the story of the crime in which is described why an offender acted out his crime in that particular manner at the moment in time and at that location. In the early stages of an investigation a crime can be described as being the result of one or more possible different scenario’s. It is likely that a number of different motives or modus operandi can account for the appearance of the crime scene. To solve the crime all but one crime scenario ought to be ruled out and a suspect should be casted as the offender. Possibly the strongest link between the offender and the crime is forensic evidence. But even though forensic science techniques develop very rapidly it is still impossible to investigate every inch of a crime scene with the same thorough detail and prioritizing is necessary. Following this, it is common practice that only certain parts of the crime scene are analyzed. Those parts are decided upon based on the crime scenario. So it becomes also increasingly important to be aware how investigators create crime scenario and how this can influence their decision making of crime scene analyses. We will present the results of an experiment in which police investigators created crime scenario’s based on a crime scene photo. We distinguish three types of evidence given: factual, interpreted and assumed. The typical crime scenario that are created will be discussed in relation to the expected types of evidence. This study gives insight into investigator’s decision making as the types of evidence seem related to elements stated in the crime scenario about the offender, motive and modus operandi.

This paper aimed to investigate the effectiveness of safety and wellbeing management system at the Dar es Salaam Port. The study used a sample size of 60 people all being the employees and management of Dar es Salaam Port. Several observed towards adequacy of effectiveness of safety and healthiness management system at a workplace. The study found that a great part of employees including the management aware of the existence of SHMS at the port. However, it noted that injuries occurred at the port frequently, at the order of 10 or above accidents per month due to hazardous cargo handled, machines use, air pollutions and heavy cargo. In additional to low awareness, low number of environmental assessments and inadequate administration of SHMS laws. The recommends that awareness on safety, well-being management at workplaces needs to be enhanced and that OSHA as sole workplace environmental regular needs improved to make it more effective. Additional, the study recommends that employee safety and wellbeing are essential aspects of human rights that need to demand by the workers and human rights activists.

Una de las principales preocupaciones del Acuerdo final para la terminación del conflicto y la construcción de una paz estable y duradera (2016) es garantizar, mediante estrategias de seguridad, los derechos económicos, sociales, culturales, políticos y ambientales de las poblaciones y territorios que, especialmente, se vieron afectados por el conflicto armado. Bajo este presupuesto, el objetivo del artículo es analizar los aspectos relacionados con la seguridad humana, medio ambiente y paz territorial en el Acuerdo final, con el fin de plantear algunas consideraciones acerca de su implementación. La metodología empleada fue el Análisis del Discurso Político (ADP) para sustentar que el Acuerdo final es un discurso político y, como tal, es susceptible de ser analizado empíricamente. La principal conclusión es la necesidad de implementar una política de seguridad en sentido amplio que tenga como centro la persona y las comunidades. Dicha seguridad se encuentra expresada en el punto de la reforma rural integral y, parcialmente, en el punto de la solución al problema del narcotráfico. Como conclusión, se plantea la necesidad de implementar dichos puntos con un enfoque de seguridad ampliada, especialmente, pero combinada con la seguridad tradicional limitadamente, sin que se traslapen para evitar nuevas violencias en los territorios.

Until recently, the leitmotif of the political debates about "security" seemed to be focused on the theory - bipartisan - that for a more effective contrast to crime and terrorism troubling the today society would have been necessary "to do more intelligence".

This investigation aimed to evaluate the effect of sodium bicarbonate on the urinary excretion rate of aspirin, testing the hypothesis that sodium bicarbonate increases aspirin excretion. Aspirin overdose is a common medical emergency as deacylated aspirin, salicylate, is a metabolic poison that causes lactic acidosis. Sodium bicarbonate administration is currently the standard treatment because it increases urinary salicylate excretion. To elucidate this process, two experiments were carried out: the first investigating the effect of pH on drug absorption, and the second the effect of sodium bicarbonate on the excretion of aspirin in the form of salicylate. It was determined that pH and drug absorption are related and that an increasing urinary pH results in reduced aspirin absorption. Through the measurement of salicylate concentrations in the urine of participants, the effect of sodium bicarbonate on the excretion rate of aspirin was evaluated. The results showed a clear rise in urinary pH and salicylate excretion upon the administration of sodium bicarbonate. Therefore, the investigation proved that sodium bicarbonate effectively increases aspirin elimination in the form of salicylate and is an appropriate measure to combat aspirin-induced poisoning.

Los estudios de género en la provincia de Manabí- Ecuador son casi inexistentes y escasamente planteados en los ámbitos sociales y políticos de la región, en consecuencia, la discusión, de por sí limitada, recae en discursos y prácticas encriptadas en estructuras sexistas que reproducen mensajes sobre sus
representaciones sociales en esa provincia. Por ello, se analizan los símbolos y discursos para conocer esa realidad, desde la perspectiva de un grupo de habitantes conectados directa e indirectamente con el contexto. Se aplica una metodología cualitativa con herramientas etnográficas basadas en entrevistas
y análisis de imágenes. Las representaciones simbólicas nos muestran estereotipos y roles interiorizados en las prácticas desiguales y violentas, en una población fuertemente abrazada a la identidad cultural de su pueblo, en la que se encuentra naturalizado el poder masculino sobre lo femenino.

La presente investigación ilustra el proceso de realización e implementación de un cuestionario de 42 preguntas
que permite conocer el nivel de alfabetización mediática en adolescentes. Fue diseñado a partir de la categorización de los indicadores pertenecientes a cada una de las seis dimensiones de la competencia
mediática propuestos por Ferrés y Piscitelli (2012) a través del uso de referentes audiovisuales contemporáneos. La implementación de esta herramienta evidenció un déficit en el dominio de las habilidades funcionales y analíticas que supone esta formación en los 63 sujetos que conformaron la muestra de investigación,
además existió una brecha de género al ser las mujeres quienes mayor puntaje obtuvieron. Así mismo, se encontró un aumento casi progresivo del promedio obtenido en función del incremento de edad. La creación
de este instrumento pretende abonar a la corriente de estudios que evalúan las habilidades necesarias para
relacionarse con y a partir de los nuevos medios de comunicación.

Geografische daderprofilering is een opsporingsmethode om de woonplaats van een dader van een serie onopgeloste misdaden te voorspellen. Die voorspelling wordt gemaakt op basis van een (rekenkundige) analyse van het ruimtelijk patroon van de plaatsen delict. Een geografisch daderprofiel is een aanduiding van een locatie of gebied met de hoogste waarschijnlijkheid dat de dader daar een ankerpunt heeft. Met behulp van het geografische daderprofiel kan efficiënter worden gerechercheerd door verdachten te prioriteren op basis van hun binding met het voorspelde gebied.

Aan de hand van studies naar inbrekers en overvallers, casestudies van de beul van Twente, een serieverkrachter en de Utrechtse serieverkrachter onderzoek ik de mogelijkheden tot verfijning van geografische daderprofilering. Centraal in mijn analyse tot verfijning staat het concept modus via. De modus via zijn de geografische gedragskenmerken van de dader waarmee geografische daderprofilering kan worden verfijnd.

Nous tentons de démontrer les procédés narratifs d’un roman policier au sens
moderne, plus précisément d’un roman à énigme en centrant notre analyse sur le
parcours du héros du roman, Guy Roland. Le but de l’étude est de préciser le
narrateur, le cadre spatial et le cadre temporel en divisant le récit en deux selon la
structure duelle du roman policier. Le travail vise à esquisser l’histoire du roman
policier depuis sa naissance ainsi que ses sous-types pour marquer la différence d’un
roman à énigme moderne. A part la structure du récit, la structure canonique de
l’enquête que le héros du roman mène tout au long du roman sera étudiée dans ce
travail. En montrant la chaîne de l’enquête, nous nous proposons de mettre en
évidence les causes et les éléments qui canalisent la quête d’identité. Ces analyses

The purpose of this study is to explore the evolving technology and systems to find a low cost, efficient and portable solution for hard disk drive forensic imaging.Hard Disk Drive Imaging is one of the most frequently used forensic process which finds its application in both traditional as well as digital crimes and has found massive implementation in detecting cyber-crime incidents leading to cyber warfare. An empirical research was conducted using combination of hardware's like Intel NUC, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, Custom Forensic Workstation (CFW), write blockers etc. and software's like ENCASE and FTK imager to do forensic imaging using multiple hard drives. A comparative analysis of the imaging process using same identical media over various platforms was done.The research shows that Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is a cost effective solution when a small device is to be imaged. Intel NUC with its i3 processor performs better than custom forensic work station with i7 processor when imaging using FTK Imager. The process of imaging involves many intricacies in order to prove the authenticity of evidence in a court of law. Problem in this regard arose when imaging was done using FTK on Linux and analyzed using ENCASE. The format generated on Linux and that recognized by ENCASE is different. The integrity of evidence is thus put to question. It was observed that not all components of each system are needed consecutively for the task of imaging. Consequently if a system is assembled with necessary components, it can help in further reducing the cost drastically.

C’est la plus grande collection de données clandestinement divulguée jamais rassemblées et analysées par une équipe de journalistes d’investigation. Publiée simultanément à partir du 4 avril dans 35 médias internationaux, “Offshore Leaks” (l’enquête sur le fonctionnement et l’ampleur des paradis fiscaux dans le monde) a occupé 86 journalistes de 46 pays pendant 15 mois.

A l’initiative de cette enquête trans-frontalière, le Consortium International de Journalistes d’Investigation (ICIJ). Le monde entier a alors découvert cet organisme indépendant, ce réseau de plus de 185 journalistes disséminés dans 65 pays. Ce réseau s’apparente, dans son fonctionnement et les valeurs qu’il défend, à une sorte d’ONG du journalisme d’investigation. Bien que méconnus, il existe en réalité un très grand nombre de réseaux d’investigation de ce type à travers le monde.

En quoi ce nouveau modèle (collaboratif) de journalisme d’investigation permet-il aux médias partenaires de l'ICIJ de valoriser leur image? Dans quelle mesure la collaboration entre l’ICIJ et des médias traditionnels permet-elle de réaffirmer le “rôle de médiateur” des journalistes?

En nous focalisant sur le discours éditorial du journal Le Monde lors de son partenariat avec l’ICIJ dans le cadre de l’enquête Offshore Leaks, nous verrons comment le projet de l’investigation en réseau et les valeurs qui le sous-tendent peuvent être considéré comme une nouvelle façon de re-crédibiliser les médias.

Ce mémoire s’intéresse au fonctionnement et aux valeurs de l’ICIJ, aux caractéristiques structurelles des réseaux qui attirent les rédactions traditionnelles à collaborer avec eux, et à la manière dont Le Monde s’est approprié du potentiel de l’ICIJ pour consolider son identité au sein du paysage médiatique français.

Nous verrons qu'une certaine vision du journalisme se dessine, désormais inscrite dans un imaginaire professionnel internationalisé.

En general la investigación debe basarse en evidencia objetiva y sustentarse en una teoría. Una teoría es un esquema conceptual que se cimienta en afirmaciones fundamentales llamadas axiomas, que se supone son verdaderas. La evidencia objetiva (que no está sesgada y está apoyada por hallazgos empíricos) se reúne recopilando hallazgos relevantes de fuentes secundarias. De igual manera, debe identificarse una teoría adecuada que guíe la investigación revisando la literatura académica presenta-da en libros, revistas y monografías. El investigador tiene que basarse en la teoría para determinar qué variables deberían investigarse. Además, las consideraciones teóricas proporcionan información sobre la forma de operacionalizar y medir las variables, así como sobre la forma de elegir la muestra y el diseño de investigación. Una teoría también funge como una base sobre la cual el investigador puede organizar e interpretar los hallazgos. " Nada es tan práctico como una buena teoría ". La teoría también desempeña una función esencial al influir en los procedimientos adoptados por la investigación básica. Sin embargo, la aplicación de una teoría a un problema de investigación de mercados requiere creatividad de parte del investigador. Es posible que la teoría no especifique de manera adecuada cómo pueden incorporarse sus constructos abstractos (variables) en un fenómeno del mundo real. Además, las teorías son incompletas. Sólo tratan con un subconjunto de variables que existen en el mundo real, por lo que el investigador también debe identificar y examinar otras variables no teóricas. El proyecto de la clientela de una tienda departamental ilustra la forma en que se emplea la teoría para desarrollar un enfoque. La revisión de la literatura relacionada con las ventas al detalle reveló que modelar a la clientela de una tienda en términos de los criterios de elección ha recibido un apoyo considerable. Además, en la literatura se han identificado hasta 42 criterios de elección y se ofrecen directrices para operacionalizar tales variables. Esto brindó un acervo inicial, del cual se seleccionaron las ocho características finales incluidas en el cuestionario. Las consideraciones teóricas también sugirieron que la conducta de la tienda podía examinarse a través de una encuesta con personas familiarizadas con las compras en tiendas departamentales. Heritage tourism in Oman is one of the main pillars of tourism in all of the tourism strategies that have been set in the last 10 years by the government of Oman. As the forts in Oman date back hundreds of years, the importance of heritage (fort) tourism has drawn the interest of scholars in the tourism sector in understanding visitors’ motivation. This study is going to investigate visitor's motivations when visiting Omani forts. It is also going to assess the quality of fort management by using visitor's feedback and the primarily utilising push and pull factors. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches have been chosen to collect primary data from three very famous forts in Oman (Bahla Fort, Nizwa Fort and Jabreen Castle). The study recommends increasing the support from the Ministry of Tourism together with the Ministry of Heritage and Culture to present the forts in a professional manner. Also, the development of forts should be very carefully managed and performed in a manner that does not affect the spirituality of these forts.

La administración como la conocemos hoy en día ha sufrido diversas transformaciones en su conceptualización a través de los años, podemos identificar la administración en diferentes disciplinas, su enfoque ha sido cambiante en la historia de la humanidad, si bien de manera empírica la hallamos presente desde que el hombre comenzó a entender su existencia, fue hasta la edad media cuando se puede rescatar verdaderos registros históricos relacionados a la administración, debido a que en esta época la escritura tomaba forma y parte de una sociedad creciente.
La constante curiosidad del hombre y la capacidad con la que podemos concebir ideas y conceptos ha sido la responsable del progreso de la humanidad a lo largo de miles de años, es esta misma conceptualización de las cosas que llevó a grandes filósofos de la historia a influir en la creación de una idea más ordenada del porque y del como suceden las cosas en nuestro entorno, en este caso la administración no fue la excepción, ya que se pudo sentar  bases solidas para la creación de  distintos modelos administrativos.
El estallar de la revolución industrial trajo consigo una serie de cambios en diversos aspectos de la vida humana, las empresas comenzaban a evolucionar y las necesidades de administrar de manera más eficiente los recursos se hicieron ver, es aquí donde comienza la especialización del trabajo, se crean escuelas de administradores y nacen los organizadores de empresas, que mantenían un enfoque administrativo orientado a la producción y eficiencia, tomando en cuenta al ser humano como una pieza más del engranaje. Los diferentes retos que estos cambios representaban dieron la pauta a que grandes pensadores se dieran a la tarea de revisar los aspectos que involucran la administración de una organización y de esta manera aportar al desarrollo de la misma.
En este artículo hablaremos de las grandes aportaciones que hicieron diversas personalidades a la administración, y como dichas aportaciones impactaron en los tiempos que fueron creadas bajo un esquema de línea temporal, además podremos identificar como es que las teorías y modelos de hace cientos de años siguen vigentes en nuestros días y como esto afecta en la era contemporánea.
