Manipur Land Resources department lodges FIR against Kuki militant group

IMPHAL: The Land Resources department of Manipur has filed a complaint against the Kuki National Front (Military Council), a militant group, for allegedly promoting discord among various communities in the state. The FIR, lodged by Mangoljao Kamei, an under secretary in the Land Resources department, at the Imphal Police Station, stated that
"the erection of a gate bearing the words Kuki National Front Military Council w with the name of the site mentioned as Thanting indicates to unauthorised changing of the original name of Thangjing."
The complaint further mentioned that this act is in contravention of the Manipur Names of Places of Act 2024 and the Manipur Ancient Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1976.It emphasized that "Thangjing is a hill of historical importance and the Art and Culture department, GoM had declared it as a protected site" under the relevant Acts, and it is located within the Churachandpur Khoupum Protected Forests.
The FIR, registered at the Imphal Police Station, listed offenses such as criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between different groups, and outraging religious feelings by insulting religious beliefs. The case has since been transferred to the Khoupum police station in Churachandpur district, as the place of occurrence falls under its jurisdiction.
