CHANDIGARH: In a highly competitive Lok Sabha election with multiple contenders, Congress managed to retain its seven seats in Punjab, equaling its previous tally. However, the party experienced a notable decrease in vote share compared to the last election, receiving 35.43 lakh votes, which constituted 26.3% of the total votes, a decline from the 40.12% it secured in 2019.

Congress showcased its strength in the Malwa region, winning four seats: Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib (SC), and Patiala. In the Doaba region, the party secured one out of two seats, namely Jalandhar (SC), while in Majha, it emerged victorious in two constituencies, Gurdaspur and Amritsar.

The party also clinched four other seats: Gurdaspur (Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa), Amritsar (Gurjeet Singh Aujla), Ludhiana, and Fatehgarh Sahib (Dr Amar Singh), with margins ranging from over 20,000 to 83,000 votes. In Patiala, Dr Dharamvira Gandhi emerged victorious with a margin of 14,831 votes.
