Camping in the Faroe Islands CAMPING IN THE FAROE ISLANDS As any true camper knows, camping is a fantastic way to experience a country and culture. Camping has grown increasingly popular in the Faroe Islands among visitors and locals alike, and new campsites have been opened at scenic locations. Wild camping is not allowed in the Faroes, camping is only permitted at designated campsites. Furthermore, it is not permitted to overnight in camping cars along roads, at rest stops, laybys or view-points. Campers are asked to be considerate of the environment, keep campsites clean and tidy and not leave any litter behind. Because of the changing Faroese weather, campers are advised to bring sturdy waterproof and windproof camping equipment. Please be aware that many campsites are only for tents. GUIDELINES FOR CAMPING & HIKING Camping or sleeping in camping vehicles outside of designated campsites is illegal and punishable by fine. › Remember to take your rubbish with you when leaving the campsite. › Be mindful of sheep and birds you may en counter in the fields – or on the roads! › Check the weather forecast www.lv.fo to see if conditions are favourable for hiking. › Get information from Tourist Information Centres, brochures, websites, etc. before you go hiking. › Using a local guide is recommended. › Stay on designated paths at all times.
DRIVING IN THE FAROE ISLANDS All major highways are paved, but some roads, especially to the smaller villages, are still gravel roads. Please navigate these roads with care, as loose gravel can make driving difficult. Many roads and tunnels can be very narrow, so please consider the conditions and choose a safe speed. In order to keep traffic flowing, very narrow roads have lay-bys, which are widened sections to one side of the road where vehicles can pull up to leave the road free for others to pass. These lay-bys are NOT to be used for parking. The national speed limit is 50km/h in urban areas, and 80km/h on asphalt roads and gravel roads in rural areas. Road maps are a good help – make sure you bring one along before you start your journey. Maps can be picked up at Regional Information Centres for visitors across the country or viewed online.

Camping auf den Färöer Inseln CAMPING AUF DEN FÄRÖER INSELN Wie jeder Camping-Liebhaber weiß, ist Camping ein großartiger Weg ein Land und seine Kultur zu erleben. Die Beliebtheit von Camping auf den Färöer Inseln wächst bei Besuchern und Einwohnern gleichermaßen stetig, so dass mehrere neue Campingplätze an malerischen Orten eröffnet haben. Wildes Campen ist auf den Färöer Inseln nicht gestattet, Camping ist nur auf den offiziellen Campingplätzen erlaubt. Des Weiteren ist es nicht erlaubt über Nacht mit Campern/Wohnwagen an Straßen, Rastplätzen, Standstreifen oder Aussichtspunkten zu übernachten. Camping-Urlauber werden gebeten, Rücksicht auf die Natur zu nehmen, die Campingplätze sauber und ordentlich zu halten und keinen Müll zurückzulassen. Aufgrund der wechselnden Wetterbedingungen auf den Inseln, wird empfohlen, stabiles wasser- und windfeste Camping-Equipment mitzubringen. Jeder Campingplatz hat außerdem eine Sternebewertung, die auf dessen Standard hinweist. Bitte beachten Sie, dass viele Campingplätze nur für die Nutzung mit Zelten ausgelegt sind. RICHTLINIEN FÜR CAMPING-URLAUBER UND WANDER-RICHTLINIEN › Das Campen und Übernachten außerhalb der ausgewiesenen Plätze ist nicht erlaubt und kann mit einer Strafe geahndet werden. › Denken Sie daran beim Verlassen des Campingplatzes Ihren Müll mitzunehmen. › Gehen Sie achtsam mit Schafen und Vögeln um, die sowohl auf den Feldern als auch auf den Straßen Ihren Weg kreuzen können.

bedingungen z.B. zum Wandern geeignet sind. › Informieren Sie sich vor Wanderungen bei der Tourist Information oder anhand von entsprechender Literatur oder Websites. › Wir empfehlen einen örtlichen Wander führer. › Bleiben Sie zu jeder Zeit auf den vorgegebenen Wegen. › Und zu guter Letzt: Vergessen Sie nicht, die Augen zu schließen und einen tiefen Atemzug der frischesten Luft der Welt zu nehmen. FAHREN AUF DEN FÄRÖER INSELN Alle Hauptstraßen sind asphaltiert, aber einige Straßen (vor allem in kleineren Orten) sind noch immer Schotterstraßen. Bitte fahren Sie auf diesen Straßen besonders konzentriert, da das Fahren auf Schotter z.T. anspruchsvoll er sein kann. Viele Straßen und Tunnel sind sehr eng, also achten Sie auf Ihre Umgebung und fahren Sie mit gemäßigter Geschwindig keit. Um den Verkehrsfluss auf schmalen Straßen fließend zu halten, gibt es Ausweich buchten, in die Sie ausweichen und den Gegenverkehr passieren lassen können. Die Buchten dürfen NICHT zum Parken genutzt werden. Die Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung innerorts liegt bei 50 km/h, außerhalb von Ortschaften bei 80 km/h auf Asphalt- und Schotterstraßen. Straßenkarten sind eine große Hilfe – organi sieren Sie sich eine Karte, bevor Sie Ihre Fahrt starten. Diese gibt es z.B. in den verschiedenen „Regional Information Centers“ oder können online eingesehen werden.
