about us

Our Mission

Vancouver Etsy Co empowers creative entrepreneurs by providing resources, education, and opportunities to grow The goal is to create a community of inclusive and supportive Designers, Creatives and Makers from the greater Vancouver area who are interested in sharing knowledge, building their business and making meaningful community connections

Planning Team

A forever entrepreneur, supporter of all cute and pretty things, and adamant optimist

A born and raised Vancouverite who made her mark in the craft world with her (now retired) knitwear business Anita now spends her time as a consumer and cheerleader of local and handmade goods and services She claims she is “efficient because I’m lazy” and therefore a pro at streamlining processes to just make things work better After many years of being a vendor and customer, she has a keen eye for in person market displays, online product photos and look books

Anita’s current craft obsession is designing and printing cute stickers with a dabble of knitting

When she is not delving into the craft world, she also works at BC Cancer and deep into true crime stories and cute animal videos

Born and raised in the Vancouver area, Val never thought she would be a creative/maker Armed with her degree in Criminology from SFU, she worked at Dress for Success Vancouver until she welcomed her first child From there, the creative (and entrepreneurial) bug hit, and she started her Etsy shop, Veespoke

Since then, she dove head first into the craft world, participating in markets (some of her favourites include Got Craft and Portobello West), then organizing markets as part of the Vancouver Etsy Co She’s passionate about empowering creatives and makers in their business journey by providing opportunities and a community for them to be part of and thrive in

When she’s not working on VEC or Veespoke, she is focusing on her most important job as a mom of three boys

art by tuna

How did you get started?

I started out attending small local markets for fan events, creating fan art of some of my favourite cartoons and comics As I was able to grow my online following, I realized there was a market for my style and unique vision, so I pivoted to creating my own designs, comics, and illustrations, now using not only markets, but my online shop, and Patreon based subscription club, to share what I do with the world

How do you stay creative?

My creative inspiration comes from both inside, and outside literally I find myself equally inspired by the world I find alone (enjoying the work of other creatives, consuming fresh media like TV and books), as well as outside, where an active lifestyle and the gorgeous scenery of BC sparks a fire in me

Introduce yourself and your business

Hi, I'm Quynh Nguyen and I'm currently a student at UBC Since I'm an Arts student, I came up with the idea of making art through candle making process Our product is handcrafted scented candles in Vancouver and our business name is Candle Corner It can be a wonderful gift and home decor for everybody Consumers can treat our products as home decor and also therapeutic tools

Tell us about how your product is made

Since most of my candles are dessert inspired, Sometimes, I just go to a coffee shop and look at their pastry which is how I got my ideas!

What do you wish customers knew about you or your business?

I notice that most scented candles in the market right now are container candles and most of the time, people only buy scented candles to experience aromatherapy relaxation at home But we want to make something different and more versatile, a candle that not only creates a pleasing atmosphere but can also be a piece of art itself

claxton grove

@claxton grove claxtongrove

Introduce yourself and your business

Claxton Grove is a line of paper goods and botanical gifts that celebrate the beauty and symbolism of flowers

A self described flower enthusiast, my goal is to create beautiful items to be gifted, or admired in your home I've long been fascinated by the historic, symbolic, and cultural meanings associated with flowers and foliage I'm excited to share them with you now!

How did you get started?

Claxton Grove has been a decade in the making! It's a natural continuation of products I made for my Little Wren business once upon a time I've always wanted to expand on the pressed flower and floral inspired items I offered, while also incorporating flower history and symbolism I had become fascinated with Eventually, it was clear that it made the most sense for Claxton Grove to become its own entity, separate from the Little Wren brand So when I returned from living abroad in London I got to work, inspired by my time away, and Claxton Grove was born

Tell us about how your product is made What is your favourite part?

I always pick and press each flower myself Come spring and summer, my little house is full of flower presses! Then for the prints, I create original art prints, which I scan using a high resolution scanner After a little finessing and editing, I send the art to a local independent printer who then turns them into realistic looking prints! I also make each magnet and jewelry piece by hand, which each has its own process Basically, think lots of small steps, tweezers, delicate pressed flowers, and a lot of patience

This all started in the midst of COVID, during the tail end of 2020 Being stuck at home majority of the time, I wanted to find a new hobby and simply a way for me to raise funds and give back to the community Then, there was a calling from a Canadian silicone bead company when they had a sale Right then I knew I had to give it a shot Literally, launched my Etsy shop while my kiddo was napping!

How did you get started?

It all starts from my love for camping and drinking coffee My day does not exist without coffee as the first thing so even when I'm camping Before FLTR & BREW, I'd begrudgingly pack instant coffee with me on camp trips/travels to make sure I could make my morning cup Let's be honest, instant coffee just doesn't taste great but it does the trick While I was traveling in Asia this year, it was my first time trying single serve pourover coffees at the hotels I stayed which I instantly loved and thought " now wouldn't this be great to bring camping?!" Introduce yourself and your business

Kaju is a small batch handcrafted jewelry brand created in Vancouver in 2018 I carefully design and make minimalistic jewelry for everyday wear, with high quality and low maintenance Dress up or down, my mission is to make you feel confident and feminine every day!

How did you get started?

I worked for a bigger jewelry business for a while before moving to Canada and I loved it! Moving to Canada and trying to adapt to a new country, figuring out my life from zero was not the easiest I started to make jewelry as a hobby and decided to open an Etsy shop just for fun Within a few months, I started to get a lot of orders and what once was a hobby started to feel like a business I decided to go full time on it and I couldn't have made a better choice!

knot & feather creative

Introduce yourself and your business

I grew up in North Vancouver and now call Kitsilano my home My work is inspired by my beautiful surroundings and I use mostly neutral colours and salvaged driftwood to create unique statement pieces All of my wallhangings are named after places of natural beauty around BC Knot & Feather Creative was born out of my love of creating beautiful things and each piece is lovingly hand crafted in my home studio

What’s the most challenging part of your business?

Marketing and keeping on top of social media I love creating and I'd rather spend all my time doing that than creating marketing strategies

Music while you work? If so, what artist? Or your favorite song?

Of course! Though I don't have a specific artist I listen to while I work it changes depending on the mood I'm in. Currently I've been in a 90's grunge mood and am listening to Soundgarden, Alice in Chains & Screaming Trees on repeat

Introduce yourself and your business

Hi, my name is Cindy and I run Little Corgo! I design and create Corgi inspired art, stationery, and lifestyle goods for fellow Corgi lovers all over the world

How do you stay creative?

Since my art is based off original Corgi characters that I came up with, I like to give each of them their own personality, and pretend they go out of adventures as a group I pair the dogs with my other hobbies and interests, like food and plants, which leads to some pretty cute art and designs

Best thing about your business?

Going through the process of seeing my dinky iPad sketches eventually evolve into a physical item I can hold! I can wait up to 3 months for certain products to be made and shipped to me, so when it finally gets in my hands, it's sooo satisfying

loa skin

Introduce yourself and your business

Loa Skin was born out of the need to empower people from all walks of life to overcome their skin adversity and claim their inherent right to natural beauty We hope you'll join us in taking the new approach to beauty

We’re a team of humans rambunctious enough to take on what we like to call “big beauty” and challenge our own beliefs when it comes to what we put on our largest organ; our skin For years, we ourselves struggled with acne, eczema and Cheilitis; which you may know takes a blow to your self esteem no matter what your age

We had used everything from luxury and drug store skin care to pharmaceutical grade tubes of wishful thinking Frustrated, we set out on a journey to question everything we were told (read: marketed to) about skin care After endless months of reading the latest scientific studies regarding skin health, we landed upon a pretty major discovery regarding the use of specific fatty acids to alleviate inflammatory skin conditions; just like the ones we had

From there we began formulating, or more like concocting, in Spencer’s parent’s kitchen We wanted to use natural botanicals to execute the science we had discovered Long nights, lots of Pyrex measuring cups and using ourselves as lab rats later Loa Skin was finally born An entirely botanical product developed for people like us, who want to live their lives without skin worries Four years into our business, we have grown into a manufacturing space, a small team, and many part time employees

out of the woods woodcraft

Introduce yourself and your business

During the day I work in education, at night, woodworking I enjoy making functional items that look beautiful and are meant to be used I work mainly with wood salvaged from urban trees that have blown over in storms, been cut down for development, or have just died Had I not rescued the wood it would have ended up going to waste

How did you come up with your business name?

The name is a nod to where my products come from They come out of the woods and they are made from wood The idea that you are purchasing a wood item and it came from a tree that at one time was part of our ecosystem The tree gives us life and now that it is dead I'm giving it a new life as a product for someone ' s home

How did you get started?

In 2014 I bought a lathe and started learning how to turn bowls The bowls slowly piled up and many were given away One weekend while visiting a market with my family my children said that I should sell my bowls, the seed was planted and Out of the Woods Woodcraft grew from there

Valerie, Vancouver

Introduce yourself and your business

My name is Val and I started Veespoke when I was on maternity leave with my first child I started with the infinity scarf; I love the simplicity and functionality of the scarf but wasn't finding it in the fabrics I liked so I solved my own problem! Since then my line of scarves has grown to invlude blanket and triangle scarves

How did you come up with your business name?

Veespoke is a play on the word Bespoke, "made for a particular customer", but changed up the "Be'" for "Vee" for Valerie

Best thing about your business?

Seeing someone I don't know wearing one of my scarves!

victoria yahara studio

victoria, North Vancouver

Introduce yourself and your business

My name is Victoria and I live in North Vancouver with my husband and our two young boys I am a Linocut printmaker who is inspired by Canadian wildlife, Motherhood and the botanical symbolism from the Victorian Language of flowers All of which is reflected in my linocut series that uses flowers to depict different themes such as Love, Friendship & Motherhood

How did you get started?

I became very inspired to create during my maternity leave after the birth of each of my sons Both times I wanted to honour my new baby With my first son I created my Canadian Wildlife Alphabet tea towel / wall hanging For my second son, I honoured my breastfeeding journey with a Linocut print of a silhouette of Mother and Baby

Tell us about how your product is made What is your favourite part?

I design and draw illustrations that I transfer to a Lino block and delicately carve the image out I then ink the block & print it onto watercolour paper with my small hand operated printing press Everything is hand done from start to finish by myself

The first test print of a new block is always thrilling! It’s the first time you see all your hard work of carving come to life It is also where you see details that need finalizing
