Here’s the deal... on Saturday, March 9, 2024, we hope you’ll place a bet for pets and attend Paws Place Dog Rescue’s Raise The Ruff 2024 Casino Night Fundraiser! This fun event will be held at the Hotel Ballast in Wilmington from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $125/ticket or $1,000/10 which includes fun money for gaming tables (Texas Hold ’em, Blackjack, Roulette and more) as well as appetizers, a cash bar, photo booth and silent auctions. Please purchase your tickets in advance at www.pawsplace.org. This is one of Paws Place’s biggest fundraisers of the year and helps dogs like us who are being cared for at the shelter while awaiting loving, forever homes. Not only will it be a great night of casino games, it will also be a celebration of Paws Place Dog Rescue’s 25th Anniversary! So come have fun, and help us dogs! My name is Harper and I am an extremely affectionate, 1½-year-old special needs girl. Once I warm up to you (which takes a week or two), I am a cuddle bug who loves being held and a constant companion. I will literally follow you everywhere, and sometimes that means between your legs. When not constantly loving on my foster parents, I love playing with plastic springs and staring out the window. I was in a serious accident as a kitten and lost my tail. I’m lucky to be alive, but I have some minor incontinence issues. Are you looking to make a rewarding New Year's Resolution? Do you have a special place in your heart for helping rescued dogs? Please consider volunteering with Monty's Home. They rescue dogs from Pender County Animal Shelter. After being spayed/neutered and vaccinated, they are placed in the prison in Burgaw where specially selected inmates train the dogs before they are adopted into forever homes. Monty's Home also has a thrift store where help is always needed. Perhaps you love bargain hunting as well! This is a fun place to volunteer while helping to provide for the dogs. You may also visit AAA cats and kittens each Saturday from Noon to 6pm and Sunday from 2pm to 6pm at Petco (324 South College Rd. near Market St.). FURR STILL NEEDS HELPERS: It’s Playtime at FURR’s Kitty Happy Hour Every afternoon from 2pm to 4pm (flexible), come enjoy some playtime with the kitties at Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (FURR) at its Porters Neck location. Pender County Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry can help! The Pet Food Pantry has both dog and cat food available FREE of charge. Anyone in need of food will be asked to fill out a brief form and show proof of income or proof of government assistance. A Heartworm Prevention Plea from Freedom Bridge Animal Rescue’s Pixie Doodle Hi, it's me, Pixie Doodle, with a really important message for all the humans who have fur babies like me! Now that it's getting chilly, you may think we no longer need our heartworm and flea/tick medications, but that's not true. I know because I had heartworms and I had to have lots of pills and shots to get better. It hurt and now I can't run around until I am all better. So please give your furry friends their preventions all year round so they don't get sick like I did. Thank you for reading! Oh, and my Freedom Bridge Animal Rescue friends who helped me said to let you know that even though the prevention pills are a little costly, it costs a LOT more if your furbaby gets heartworms AND it hurts.
