The Michigan Treasurer is a state executive position in the Michigan state government.
The office of the state treasurer collects, invests, and disburses all state money. The treasury additionally administers major tax and property laws and safeguards the state's credit.[1]
Current officeholder
The current state treasurer is Rachael Eubanks, who was appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) in December 2018.[2]

Appointments
The treasurer is appointed by the governor.[3]
Vacancies
Since treasurer is one of the three constitutional executive department heads that make up the Executive Branch, its vacancy contingencies are addressed in Article V, Section 6 of the state constitution. The section states that the appointment can be rejected if a majority of state senators vote against it, with the window to reject open for "60 session days after the date of such appointment. Any appointment not disapproved within such period shall stand confirmed."[3]
Duties
The treasurer is responsible for managing all state funds.[4] This includes:[1]
- Administers major tax laws and property tax laws
- Safeguarding the credit of the state and its local units of government
- Investing retirement funds of Michigan's state employees, public school employees, state police and judges
- Distributing revenue sharing monies to local units of government
- Auditing municipal finance records
- Reuniting abandoned property with its rightful owner.
