Massachusetts down ballot state executive elections, 2014
September 9, 2014 |
November 4, 2014 |
Governor • Lieutenant Governor • Secretary of State • Attorney General Down Ballot Treasurer, Auditor |
Two down ballot state executive positions were up for election in the state of Massachusetts in 2014. The two down ballot offices on the ballot in 2014 were the Massachusetts Treasurer and the Massachusetts Auditor. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.
Voters in Massachusetts selected a new state treasurer, as incumbent Steven Grossman (D) did not file for re-election. Grossman ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for governor. Deb Goldberg (D) won against Mike Heffernan (R) to replace Grossman. State Auditor Suzanne Bump (D) won re-election against Patricia Saint Aubin (R). The Green-Rainbow Party ran candidates for both seats: Ian Jackson in the treasurer's race and MK Merelice in the auditor's race.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Massachusetts utilizes a semi-closed primary system. An unaffiliated voter is allowed to vote in the primary election of his or her choice.[1]
For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article. The primary was held on September 9.
