One down ballot state executive position was up for election in the state of New York in 2014. The lone down ballot office on the ballot in 2014 was the New York Comptroller. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

Incumbent Thomas DiNapoli won re-election to the comptroller's office. He faced Republican candidate Bob Antonacci, Green Party candidate Theresa Portelli and Libertarian Party candidate John Clifton.

A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. New York utilizes a closed primary process, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[1][2][3]

For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article.
