The Florida Attorney General election took place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) was first elected in 2010 and sought a second term in 2014. She won another four-year term by defeating Democratic candidate George Sheldon and Libertarian Party candidate Bill Wohlsifer in the general election.
Bondi, Sheldon and Wohlsifer participated in a debate on October 6 summarized here that focused on their thoughts on medical marijuana and same-sex marriage. The past three elections for the attorney general's office went to Republican candidates, as shown in the past elections section.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Florida utilizes a closed primary process, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[1][2][3][4]
For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article. The primary took place on August 26.

October 6 debate
Pam Bondi (R), George Sheldon (D) and Bill Wohlsifer (L) discussed their positions on medical marijuana and same-sex marriage during a debate hosted by Tampa Bay News 9. A question about Amendment 2, a ballot measure that would allow medical marijuana in the state, divided the candidates into different camps. Bondi opposed Amendment 2 due to concerns about the legitimacy of medical marijuana prescriptions given recent action by the state against doctors deemed to be providing unnecessary prescriptions. Sheldon criticized detractors like Bondi and Wohlsifer argued that the measure should provide greater freedom for marijuana use.[9]
The debate brought up the United States Supreme Court decision to overturn the state's ban on same-sex marriage. Bondi did not provide a clear stance on same-sex marriage, stating that her office had only received the court decision hours before the debate. Sheldon argued that Bondi should not defend the state's ban, saying that the government should "get out of the business of telling people who they can love."[9]
