Tuskegee University

The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at Tuskegee University (“TU”) has a rich and unique history. The TU ROTC program began in 1918, just after World War I, and has continued to produce military officers, in all branches of the Armed Forces, since that time. It is a prestigious program that vaunts pioneers and leaders of African-American military service. 

TU ROTC graduated and produced the first African-American four-star general, General Daniel “Chappie” James.  Its Professors of Military Science have included legendary military leaders, including General Benjamin O. Davis, Sr., the first African-American General Officer in the military, and General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr., commander of the Tuskegee Airmen, and the first African-American General Officer in the Air Force.  

Woven into TU ROTC are leadership and character development opportunities that benefit graduates for life.  The TU ROTC program, like Tuskegee University itself, is designed to instill lifelong traits of integrity, devotion to duty, self-discipline and self-reliance.
