‘American Idol’ news: Grammy winner Ciara will mentor Top 7 on Sunday, May 5

ABC has announced that Grammy-winning superstar Ciara will mentor the Top 7 on American Idol this Sunday, May 5. She’ll coach the contestants through a theme night close to her heart — “Songs That Make Me Wanna Dance.”

Ciara is a Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Over her 20-year career, she has sold over 23 million records and 22 million singles worldwide, including chart-topping hits “Goodies,” “Ride,” “Oh,” “1, 2 Step,” “I Bet,” “Level Up,” and “How We Roll.”

Ciara is not only known for her vocal talent and dance moves but she has starred in both film and television roles. Most recently she scored an NAACP Image award for her role as Nettie in the 2023 adaptation film of “The Color Purple.” Ciara is the founder and CEO of Beauty Marks Entertainment (BME), a company at the vanguard of the fast-changing music industry. To that end, the company positions music at the intersection of Ciara’s other passions: film, fashion, philanthropy, and technology.

Along with husband Russell Wilson, she launched The House of LR&C, a new concept in retail with a focus on doing good. In keeping with her entrepreneurial spirit, Ciara is the co-owner of Ten To One rum and recently launched her skincare line OAM (On A Mission) which provides clinical level results through vitamin C. As part of her ongoing philanthropy work, she co-founded the Why Not You Foundation with her husband, is dedicated to fighting poverty through education and empowering today’s youth to lead with a “why not you” attitude. Most recently they became New York Times Bestselling authors with the release of their first children’s book “Why Not You” (Random House) which was inspired by the work they do through their foundation.

On Sunday, May 12 the Top 5 “American Idol” finalists will return to The Most Magical Place on Earth for “Disney Night,” which has become an annual tradition since the singing competition moved to ABC.
