What are some questionable submissions by some of our favorite artists in recent memory?
Taylor:
“You Need To Calm Down” in Pop Solo instead of “Lover”. If I’m not mistaken she submitted “Lover” to country? Wtf?Lady Gaga:
“Judas” to Pop Solo instead of “Born This Way” 🤷🏾♂️Ariana Grande:
“God Is a Woman” for Pop Solo instead of “No Tears Left to Cry”.Billie:

Ariana has had terrible submissions..
TUN should’ve been submitted across the board
NTLTC should’ve been submitted across the board (this one doesn’t even make sense because at least with TUN/7 Rings, 7 Rings was the bigger song; her team has no excuse for GIAW)
Her team never submitting to R&B?? Imagine and Safety Net should’ve been submitted it R&B Song/Perf, while My Hair should’ve been submitted to Traditional R&B Performance.
Also I know her team doesn’t submit her collabs with Abel out of respect for him, but Ariana would easily have 4+ more nominations if Save Your Tears Remix, Die For You Remix, and Off The Table were submitted

Also Dangerous Woman over Into You!! Ofc she would never win cause it was Adele year but Ariana consistently submits the weaker single in Pop solo it’s unbearable.

1997: Toni Braxton, Secrets submitted/nominated for Best Pop Album (would’ve easily won Best R&B Album).
A few others:
2008: Kelly Clarkson, “Never Again” submitted in Best Rock Solo Performance.
2008: “Never Again” submitted in Best Rock Song.
2008: Kelly Clarkson, My December submitted in Best Rock Album.
2010: John Legend, Evolver submitted in Best Pop Vocal Album.
ReplyCopy URLAriana’s submissions have been so messy. Even for her debut era, she should’ve submitted something to R&B, and she apparently submitted THREE songs to Pop Duo/Group Performance. I also have no idea why “The Way” wasn’t submitted for Rap/Sung Collaboration instead, but alas.
Lana Del Rey not submitting “Doin Time” or “The Greatest” to Best Rock Performance was a waste. I’m sure she would’ve been in with a panel.
“Paint The Town Red” not being submitted to rap was also a huge mistake.
ReplyCopy URLNot really a mistake because she won, but Beyonce submitting Renaissance to the Dance/Electronic categories was such category fraud. That album is a Pop Album through and through, and the fact that the academy let her compare in that genre was such a slap in the face to actual dance/electronic artists.
