But I wouldn’t be 100% sure until they setup the FYC page for it lol. Also, one of the reasons why I’m unsure is, if it was eligible Beyonce would’ve released Renaissance movie in streaming platforms by now. She wouldn’t miss a chance to get that emmy

Considering how she has been snubbed there I wouldn’t be shocked if she had postponed it to not clash with Taylor, if she still has some intention to release it.

So I don’t think The Eras Tour is eligible.

That’s misinterpreting what that sentence says. You lose eligibility if you don’t meet the requirement, yes, but you don’t become eligible just by satisfying it.
The rules are very explicit about theatrical releases that cross the ‘7 theaters for 10 days’ limit not being eligible. That’s the first condition these programs need to satisfy, you move on to the next one after meeting it.

Yes, I have read these rules before. That’s why I said I’m not 100% sure. But let’s see
ReplyCopy URLMay 10, 2024 at 5:11 am #1205826862Honestly the only way that The Eras Tour film gets in is if they fraud the Disney release as a new one (when in reality it’s the same theatrical cut but with a few extra songs).
ReplyCopy URLMay 10, 2024 at 7:37 am #1205826958I wonder if Gaga has attached an Original song at the end of the concert movie. That’d make her eligible for yet another category!
ReplyCopy URLMay 11, 2024 at 12:51 am #1205827831I’d say ‘Madonna: The Celebration Tour in Rio’ is a front runner for the live category as she has the narrative + 1.5M attended + no strong competition in the live category

I’d agree (specially cause I was there 🤓) and is a magnificent recording of her work. But did it air in any US channel or streaming to be eligible? I thought it was only shown on brazillian services and she’d use it to edit an official release of the tour later on.
ReplyCopy URLMay 11, 2024 at 9:20 am #1205828098I strongly doubt the Madonna live stream of her concert in Brazil is eligible for this.

It certainly isn’t

Oh, I thought it aired everywhere. Well, that’s a bummer. Missed an amazing shot at winning

the rule also says this: 8a. Television programs that are offered for “general theatrical release” occurring prior to their airing or Internet exhibition are not eligible. A “limited theatrical release” prior to the airing or Internet exhibition of the television program cannot exceed an aggregate of up to seventy (70) days prior exhibitions (i.e., 7 theaters for 10 days). A program with a prior theatrical release loses eligibility if it does not air within a year of its initial public exhibition, regardless of if this is or is not a general release. Film festival screenings do not count as theatrical screenings.
so i really think it is eligible. and as someone mentioned, she also released the “taylor version” of the special on disney+

But wasn’t the film a general/wide release, and not a limited one (since it was shown in hundreds/thousands of theaters in the United States for months)? That automatically makes it (and Renaissance) ineligible. What you highlighted applies to limited releases only. As for the Disney+ version, the Academy might deem that as insufficient new material to consider it a different/new movie.
