In this chapter, the authors give an overview of the main data mining techniques that are utilized in the context of research paper recommender systems. These techniques refer to mathematical models and tools that are utilized in discovering patterns in data. Data mining is a term used to describe a collection of techniques that infer recommendation rules and build models from research paper datasets. The authors briefly describe how research paper recommender systems' data is processed, analyzed, and then, finally, interpreted using these techniques. They review different distance measures, sampling techniques, and dimensionality reduction methods employed in computing research paper recommendations. They also review the various clustering, classification, and association rule-mining methods employed to mine for hidden information. Finally, they highlight the major data mining issues that are affecting research paper recommender systems.

Technology has revolutionized the ways in which libraries store, share, and access information. As digital resources and tools continue to advance, so too do the opportunities for libraries to become more efficient and house more information. E-Discovery Tools and Applications in Modern Libraries presents critical research on the digitization of data and how this shift has impacted knowledge discovery, storage, and retrieval. This publication explores several emerging trends and concepts essential to electronic discovery, such as library portals, responsive websites, and federated search technology. This chapter examined the use of social media in libraries and impact on undergraduates. The study covers concepts of utilization of social media: benefits, impact, and challenges that affect the use of social media and academic performance of undergraduate students. The concepts generally implied that social media is the use of technology as the best medium to explore wide area of knowledge to produce positive impact on academic performance of students. There is a direct relationship between social media usage and the academic performance of students. Aims:  To explore the information needs and information seeking behaviour of family doctors, identifying any differences in attitudes and behaviours deriving from membership of a training practice and investigating the impact of a practice librarian.Methods:  A case study of general practitioners (GPs) in Aylesbury Vale incorporated a quantitative study of use of the medical library, and two qualitative techniques, in-depth interviews and group discussions.Results:  A total of 58 GPs, almost three quarters of those in the Vale, participated; 19 via individual interviews and a further 39 via two group discussions. Family doctors are prompted to seek information by needs arising from a combination of professional responsibilities and personal characteristics. A need for problem-orientated information, related to the care of individual patients, was the predominant factor that prompted these GPs to seek information. Personal collections remain the preferred information resource; electronic sources rank second. The study demonstrated low use of the medical library. However, both vocational training and the employment of a practice librarian impacted on library use.Conclusions:  The study illuminates the information needs and preferences of GPs and illustrates the contribution that librarians may make at practice level, indicating the importance of outreach work.

Education for library profession is a revolutionary process. The core of the curricula is the people in relation to the information itself and technology that enable the provision of this information. There is a need to produce library science graduates with sophisticated management and policy and planning skills and the vision to translate core values of today and tomorrowâ s information world.
