This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions[edit]

Symbol comment vote.svg Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (other than requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, no other exceptions are allowed , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Requests for global sysop permissions[edit]

}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. Please note: Since 2019 all global sysops are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.

Requests for global rename permissions[edit]

 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.

Global rename for Ritchie333[edit]

Not ending before 18 January 2023 10:04 UTC

I previously had Global rename permissions, but they have expired because of inactivity / lack of use. I have had an off-wiki request from an en-wp administrator to "un-vanish" Cassianto who wishes to return to active editing, and it is preferred that I do the revert. Ritchie333 (talk) 10:04, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Ritchie333 in the meantime, that user can log on to their account and just submit their own request. — xaosflux Talk 11:24, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Comment Comment I see no reason why any steward - although in some cases I saw also GRN - couldn't process a request for unvanish, even if they didn't process the previous vanish. If that's the only reason, it seems a little light to me to get the flag. If you plan to get active in helping handle renames I have no problem supporting your request! --Superpes15 (talk) 11:54, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    +1, can't see why we would refuse an "unvanish", they can just log on with that placeholder userid and drop a request at Special:GlobalRenameRequest. — xaosflux Talk 14:53, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Question Question: @Ritchie333: I certainly support this, but just to be clear are you intending to return to being an active global renamer or is it 'just' for this one request? — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 18:15, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
A good question. In theory, I would help out in renames at en:CAT:UNBLOCK; in practice, I look at them, question whether the accounts actually want to do any constructive work at all instead of just promoting their pet cause, and pass on them. Ritchie333 (talk) 11:36, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • If you're requesting GRN rights for just one request, I'd Oppose oppose, but if you're choosing to actively return back, then I Support Support. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 05:00, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Per above. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:03, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    Camouflaged Mirage, is your vote a support or oppose? --Ferien (talk) 17:10, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    @Ferien Sorry for the unclearness, I will go along the lines of SHB2000 (i.e. support if there is desire to help out for renames in general but oppose should it be just 1 rename). So if the candidate explicitly says that they are wanting the permission to help out in general, I am not opposing. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:49, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Like above, no issues with granting the rights, but prefer to not grant them for one-off actions... just seems unnecessary. – Ajraddatz (talk) 06:34, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose for one rename. --Sininen Delfiini (talk) 15:40, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose per above. --Lookruk 💬 (Talk) 23:33, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose Does not make sense for me to grant rights for a one time action --Ameisenigel (talk) 16:22, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
To those opposing, can you clarify that you are opposing outright (you don't think I will use the privilege enough and denying it is more sensible for security reasons) or because you oppose if I only used it for one thing? As I mentioned above, I have been in situations where I could have used the privilege, but decided it would not be in the project's best interest to do so. Many username-related unblock requests are for users with a promotional username AND promotional edits (first example I found from today - en:User:KanadMarketing); without evidence they want to edit Wikipedia in a neutral manner with no conflict of interest, there is no reason to unblock or rename them. Unless people would prefer I renamed the account and declined the unblock request? Ritchie333 (talk) 12:44, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose per above. Not appropriate to grant this for a single, one-off rename. Like others above, I'd support re-granting if Ritchie333 intends to actively use this privilege. -FASTILY 04:09, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    See above question. Ritchie333 (talk) 12:06, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose Per above. No valid reason for this request. Tryvix1509 (talk) 08:29, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose According to the response "[t]o those opposing", they could only use this right when it "would not be in the project's best interest to do so" because none of the username-related unblock requests they have been processing have required this right?.. ~~~~
    User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
    09:14, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    I think you've misread that. What I said was, there have been times where I could have unblocked and renamed someone, but I made a conscious decision to not use those tools. Hope that's clarified that. It is somewhat interesting that in two years, consensus changed from "we should give any enwp admin in good standing the right to" "we should deny the right without sufficient evidence". I wonder what changed? Ritchie333 (talk) 15:26, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

+sysadmin for Zabe[edit]

Hey, I have deployment access (see data.yaml), this access would help me performing onwiki sysadmin actions, actually mainly testing config patches that require higher permissions, currently mainly cu related stuff. Thanks, --Zabe (talk) 15:24, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Have you sent a required note to Trust&Safety? Ruslik (talk) 20:37, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

AFAIK community consensus is not required for sysadmin as it is given on a need-to basis by WMF. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 09:05, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, I have had this right since Jan 2021 (discussion) and has done over 100,000 edits to fix deprecated javascript usages across all wikis. I'm planning to focus on fixing lint errors in heavily used templates causing cascades of millions lint errors in the wikis but I also would fix more deprecations and bugs, --Amir (talk) 04:52, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
