What or who inspired you to become a jeweler?

R

As a kid I often spent time at my father’s jewelry manufacturing company in Israel and at home I watched him sculpt and paint. I’ve been exposed to the jewelry industry my entire life and I would say my father is my greatest inspiration.

D

R Raz Gnat

D R

Tell us about yourself on a personal level:

My name is Raz Gnat. I am a father to two strong and beautiful girls. I was born in Israel and moved to the United States as a teenager. I started making jewelry when I was 15 years old and learned most of what I know about the jewelry business f rom my father, Ichak Gnat. I am VP and Designer at Gnat Jewelry Atelier in Cherry Creek North and a Commercial Real Estate Broker at Roche & Company.

What’s your favorite part of designing and creating jeweler?

Typically when people shop for jewelry they shop everywhere especially when shopping for an engagement ring. My favorite part in jewelry designing is when someone walks into the store and f inds exactly what they were looking for and it is something I created or when a gentleman walks in looking for an engagement ring and he is nervous. I get to walk him through the process and help them design the perfect engagement ring. I often get to be one of the f irst people to know when someone is getting engaged and I get to be a part of all the happy memories.

D

What was the most diff icult piece you ever created?

R

It is hard to pinpoint what is the most diff icult piece of jewelry we’ve ever designed or created. We’ve made some very intricate and awesome pieces. My favorite piece’s to make are the ones that combine technology such as CAD along side hand fabrication.

D

What are your goals for the next 2 years?

D

Tell us something that no one knows about you:

R

My goal in the next two years would be to do everything I can for my family and the community to get back to “business as usual”. I’m excited to see things open up so that we can all get back to our lives and I’m looking forward to participating in all the philanthropic events around town that we miss and so greatly support. My goal is to grow our business as we always have through community involvement, and to do my part to help f riends and loved ones thrive.

R

Israeli born are affectionately called Sabra (cactus f ruit). We are often said to be thick skinned and prickly on the outside but tender and soft inside. Deep down inside I’m a big softy. You may catch me crying at a movie, especially when it comes to dads and daughters or when someone triumphs against all odds.

Emilio Pucci – A Man For All Seasons by Richard Carroll

“Today people are a hundred times more interested in the personality of the person they are with than the clothes he wears.” -Pucci

“Emilio Pucci – A Man For All Seasons” by Richard Carroll

Flamboyant Emilio Pucci, a superb skier, multi-talented Renaissance man, and fluent linguist who spoke five languages with a captivating Florentine accent, was in his element when skiing snowcapped Oregon’s Mt. Hood which must have appeared to him like a towering Swiss Alps painted backdrop. Pucci was living his young life to the fullest, enjoying fresh snow fall and dazzling powder perfect for fast runs on storm-tumbled Oregon slopes. Pucci was not a revered ski bum forgoing a traditional way of life; he was cherishing a love of a lifetime and, in tune with the rhythms of nature, challenging the runs early in the day with a little freestyle, which was an ongoing source of joy for him.

nourished the earliest roots of Pucci’s far-reaching fashion career. With his Italian passion and after countless days on the slopes both in Europe and Oregon, he understood that skiwear was bland and boring, an impression underlined by the Reed ski team’s disparate hodge-podge of rag-tag ski attire and gear. Pucci was acutely aware of just how ski clothing should fit to meet the functionality of extreme active wear where freedom of movement is critical. His early colorful and creative designs for the Reed ski team were the first steps in Pucci’s fashion career as he was among the first couture designers to focus on skiwear.

The Reedies took note of this articulate ItalArriving in Oregon from Florence in 1935, ian from Florence with exceptional language Pucci came as student. Pucci, a talented athlete who at age 17 was a member of the Italian ski team that competed in the 1932 Olympics, quickly became the school’s first ski coach and ski team captain. Reed College, alma mater of many high achieving students such as Steve Jobs and James Beard, provided the fertile soil that

A Life Beyond James Bond A life of escapades and intrigue began when Emilio Pucci, Marquis di Barsento, was born in 1914 in Italy where his family held title in the Renaissance city of Florence to the historic Pucci Palace, a family residence dating to 1480 when Antonio Pucci acquired the grounds with a few standing houses and greens. Throughout the years the property developed into a stunning and spacious family bastion. Palazzo Pucci, on via d’ Pucci just steps from the majestic Duomo in the heart of the city, remains today among the most important historic mansions in Florence with invaluable paintings, sculptures, and frescoes. Emilio, as a young boy raised in the Palazzo, had all the privileges including a nanny. Long noted as an all-round sportsman, Pucci was exceptional on the tennis courts, raced cars, and was an avid swimmer and fencer, in addition to skiing. Upon his return to Italy, he earned an additional degree from the University of Florence. Meanwhile, Europe was beginning to experience the throes of World War II with Germany and Italy on the march. Pucci served as a pilot in the Italian Air Force flying a SM.79 torpedo, three-engine medium bomber, and, undergoing frequent missions, was honored for courage and bravery. Edda Mussolini Ciano Edda, the eldest and favored daughter of Italy’s Fascist Dictator Benito Mussolini, was also a childhood friend of Pucci. They skied together on the slopes of Cortina d’ Ampezzo in the southern Dolomitic Alps of Northe

-rn Italy and remained close friends throughout the war. Edda married Count Galeazzo Ciano, Mussolini’s Foreign Minister who became critical of fascism and, having written perilous and damning journals exposing the Germans, voted in 1943 to remove Mussolini, his father-in-law, from power. When it became clear Ciano would be executed for treason, Pucci helped Edda, disguised as a peasant woman, escape to Switzerland with Ciano’s wartime journals hidden in her clothing, both enduring a dangerous and arduous journey to the border. Pucci likewise became disenchanted with the war and hostile to Nazi Germany but was captured by the Germans while trying to make his own escape to Switzerland. He was sent to Milano’s notorious San Vittore Prison where he was handcuffed and tortured by the German Gestapo with wooden riding crops, and with a gun at his head threating him with death. He eventually escaped to Switzerland with his skull brutally fractured and remained there as an émigré till peace was declared in 1945. Fashion Forward With the Reed ski team uniforms he had designed a solid foundation, Pucci resumed his fashion career after the war and in 1947 was again designing slick, tailored ski apparel. He was the first to design a one-piece ski suit, forgoing the portly weighty look with sexy, snug, and inspiring stretch material. His fashion career took a huge step upward when an Italian fashion photographer on assignment for Harper’s Bazaar became enamored with a woman wearing Pucci’s designs

and captured her on film at Zermatt, a worldclass European ski resort in the Swiss Alps. A year later Pucci’s skiwear was featured in the magazine’s European Winter Fashion issue, a boundless showcase for a new name on the fashion horizon. Conditions were ripe for the birth of advanced and original skiwear fashion and he opened his original haute couture boutique at the glamorous upmarket Canzone del Mare resort in Capri along with swimwear and vibrant and imaginatively embellished silk scarves. Pucci presented his first complete collection in Rome in 1950. Urged by Stanley Marcus of Neiman Marcus to expand his creations to colorful wrinkle-free printed silk dresses and blouses, Pucci’s fashion career blossomed, and he soon opened another boutique in Rome much to the delight of his growing fans.

He returned to Reed College several times partnering with the college in 1957 to create a fashion show at the Portland Art Museum, and on a 1978 visit presenting a fashion shop furthering the college. In celebration of Reed’s 75th anniversary in 1987, he again retraced his steps and designed a T-shirt for Reedies young and old. Emilio Pucci died in Florence in 1992, but on Oregon’s Mount Hood the Pucci chairlift and Pucci Glade share memories of a daring skier with a charming accent. emiliopucci.com

Pucci expanded world-wide and made a smart adaptation from high fashion to ready-to-wear with his Picasso-like designs that the European jet-set and their American kin adored. Among his ardent fans were Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Jackie Kennedy, and later Madonna and Beyonce. He designed audacious uniforms for the pilots, hostesses, and ground personal for Braniff Airways, and proposed the design for the Apollo 15 mission patch. Pucci held a seat in the Italian Parliament from 1963 to 1973, but never forgot his fashion roots.

A Silent Pandemic: Men with Mental Illness

(left) Founder: Jennings Hester and flies

A Silent Pandemic: Men with Mental Illness Just 20% of people treated for mental illness and/or substance are male, though an alarming 80% of suicides are committed by men. Why? Societal views of masculinity and a complete lack of any support system. While women often talk about their emotions more freely when struggling with mental illness, men tend to act out via aggression, substance abuse or suicide. The reality is men kill themselves 8x more than women. Many men don’t want or seek help – or know where to begin. On average, it takes over 10 years from the time a man experiences initial symptoms of mental illness to even question if they need help, much less take action. An organization in Denver has decided to fight back. Fishing the Good Fight leverages the proven therapeutic benefits of fly fishing to generate money for men’s mental health organizations and shines a light on the complex intersection of modern masculinity and mental health. They strive to help reduce the stigma, provide resources to help men take action and subsidize mental health services. Founder Jennings Hester and his team create high-quality hand-tied flies sold directly through the website to execute their mission. By raising money, they are able to subsidize mental health costs for those who can’t afford the help they need and run retreats, launching in April, that combine fly fishing instruction and mental health education They also created a targeted ad campaign, which resulted in 300 men taking the ‘mantherapy head inspection’ quiz on the Fishing the Good Fight website. The questionnaire gives a summary of potential issues and connects them with local therapists in the area who specialize in men. The ultimate goal of the Fishing to Good Fight is to help men take action. If you’d like to support Fishing the Good Fight, please visit their website at www.fishingthegoodfight.org, and consider donating, purchasing flies or signing up for one of their memberships.

What prompted you to have an interest in Italian beauty products? I think my love f irst came for the country of Italy. From the f irst time I visited Italy as a teenager, I was in love with the culture and the heritage, the style and the beauty. Through the years as I was able to travel more in Italy, I grew to know and love more aspects of the country through its food and wine, art, beautiful cities and landscapes. I’ve also always been a beauty af icionado so once I discovered the incredible native Italian beauty brands, I was hooked.

Amy Parsons

D A

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I was born in Colorado, as was my husband and our two daughters. So, we’re a family of Colorado natives! I grew up in Cheyenne and then returned to Colorado to attend CSU for college and CU Boulder for law school. After a 20 year career as an attorney and executive at CSU, I had the chance of a lifetime to lead Mozzaf iato as it’s founding CEO and I’m very fortunate to now be heading a company that combines my passions for beauty and Italy. It’s an incredible challenge and opportunity to build Mozzaf iato f rom the ground up and to bring these phenomenal heritage Italian brands to the US market.

headshot images credit: Danja Barber Photography

D A

Tell us a bit about Mozzafiato:

We are a company dedicated to f inding and bringing the very best native Italian beauty brands and products to the US market. The best beauty brands f rom around the world go to Italy to make their products as only Italy has that generational know-how and craftsmanship and attention to ingredients and perfection of formulation. Remarkably, the majority of Italy’s own native beauty brands, some of which have been perfecting their craft for hundreds of years, are still largely unknown in the US. We are bringing those brands together under one roof with Mozzaf iato where US consumers can discover and experience these products for themselves and connect with the brands and families who lead them. We currently represent 17 Italian brands in the categories of f ragrance, skin care, bath and body, men’s grooming, home f ragrances, and gifts for all occasions, and we will continue to bring more Italian brands into the store.

D A

What are your goals for the next year? three years?

In the next year we will be working hard to raise the visibility of Mozzaf iato and for the brands we represent, to generate tremendous excitement for Italian beauty, and to educate around the origins and performance of the products. Over the next few years, we intend to expand our footprint in physical retail locations across the US and will be expanding in the brands and products we carry, always remaining true to bringing only the best, highest-performing, most beautiful Italian products into the market.

Tell us something unique or fascinating about yourself that most people don’t know:

I am a huge fan of Denver’s own Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company. I have danced twice in their annual Denver Dancing with the Stars and will chair the Gala in 2021!

Four Myths Around CBD In recent years, cannabidiol (also known as CBD, which is derived from hemp, a type of cannabis sativa plant) has exploded in popularity as an increasing number of people have discovered CBD and its wellness effects. CBD interacts with our Endocannabinoid System, which helps maintain homeostasis. Because of this, the positive effects CBD has are broad and generally help people maintain balance in body and mind. Even with the growing popularity of CBD and hemp’s legalization in 2018, there is still a lot of misinformation out there. At Kyoto Botanicals, we are debunking four myths we often hear: CBD Will Make Me Feel High (and I Don’t Want to Be) Marijuana, another type of the cannabis sativa plant, has been bred to have high THC, a psychoactive compound, in order to increase the psychotropic effects. CBD products have low levels of THC (<0.3% by law), making it extremely unlikely that you will feel any psychotropic effects from taking CBD. I Tried It Once and Didn’t Feel Anything Organic compounds, such as CBD, can produce different effects in people since our bodies are different. Individual results may vary, and we encourage people to try CBD for a number of weeks to give their body time to adjust and feel the full effects. We recommend full-spectrum extract, widely considered to be more beneficial from a health and wellness perspective. Additionally, different strains and different forms benefit people in different ways. If you are struggling to find CBD that works for you, try different trustworthy brands and different forms (i.e. tinctures, gummies, etc.). All CBD Products are the Same Due to limited government regulation, many CBD companies provide subpar products. Avoid products from companies that include CBD isolate in their products, use hemp seed oil as opposed to hemp extract, don’t readily offer lab test results, and don’t control their own hemp supply chain. The Effects of CBD are Still Unproven Among the many reports out there about the scientific effects of CBD, the World Health Organization did a comprehensive report in 2017. Findings included: “No effectives indicative of abuse or dependence potential.” CBD may “be a useful treatment for a number of other medical ailments.” CBD is “generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.”

Kyoto Botanical products can be found online at: kyotobotanicals.com. Our line of high-quality CBD products includes tinctures, gummies, body oil, body balm, face serum and dog treats.

Spring Trends By Michael Moore

“Spring Trends” by Michael Moore The Spring trend report for 2021 is fresh and exciting, but, maybe not so new. I tell my clients makeup trends are often not new but renamed from the years past. So, this Spring, we revisit former trends that are coming back from a new rebirth into 2021. A Fresh Glowing Complexion: A bare-faced makeup look, but is it truly? It’s all about the glowing complexion. Using a liquid highlight such as, ‘Dew Drops Luminizer” from Moore For Life will give you this look in a quick minute. This can be used under makeup or on top. As well as blended into a liquid cream blush, making sure the look is coming from you; inside out. Skincare Tip: ‘Transdermal C Balm’ by Truth Treatment Systems can be used as a great daily moisturizer, but also the perfect barrier to put on the surface to achieve this look in an instant.

Moore For Life “Dew Drop Luminizer” (choose from 4 shades) $35 “Transdermal C Balm by Truth Treatment Systems” $199 All About the Eyeliner: A Strong eyeliner or a graphic line is all the ray, although not a look every professional woman can pull off. Use the ‘LCN Permanent Eye Liner Pen’ from Moore For Life. This eyeliner pen creates a finished, natural look or build it up with a graphic wing or a daring crease. The product is amazing and stays on all day and night long. LCN Permanent Eyeliners $25 Michael Moore has worked in the cosmetics industry since 1988 with brand leaders such as Bobbi Brown Essentials, Chanel, and Estée Lauder. In New York City, he was often seen backstage during fashion week, supporting major designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Bob Mackie, and Vera Wang. Michael’s client list included Oscar winners, First Ladies of the United States, and royalty.Michael Moore is the owner of Moore For Life in Denver’s own center of chic, Cherry Creek North. Today, Michael works regularly with print and television media for photo shoots, fashion content, and special events. His makeup artistry has graced numerous publications such as INStyle and The New York Times, and television shows Oprah and The Today Show.

Color of the Season for Eyes: Purple Purple is the color that sparks energy into the eye. Many shades are working from the running this season, but purple is making the look pop a bit more. I love purple because it is the perfect balance between vibrant and subtle. I believe it works for every eye color. Be careful if you tend to hold a lot of red in your eye; if so, find a brown based purple. If you’re shy of adding purple eyeshadow to the spring wardrobe, try layering it on your natural tone shadows or add to a classic smokey eye look.

Moore For Life “Smash Mineral Eyeshadow” $29

All About the Lips: This past year has been hard on the lips in many ways. A lip stain is perfect as it is transfer resistant while wearing a face mask. The ‘LCN Permanent Lip Liner Pen’ sold at Moore For Life is like putting an all-day tattoo on your lip. My clients love them due to the fact they stay on so long, as well as they do not dry out the lip! They are full color saturation. Apply your lip liner all over the lip, then layer with a hydrating natural lip gloss. So, look for a bright pop of lips this season when keeping the eye glam and soft. Think of a warm berry or soft nude when playing up the eye a bit more. Spring is the rebirth… make sure your makeup shows your ready for the rebirth in 2021! Colorado Weddings:

Grace Loves Lace

“Colorado Weddings” Grace Loves Lace

This wedding season, Rocky Mountain brides are flocking to Grace Loves Lace, as the iconic Australian brand recently celebrated the grand opening of its Denver showroom. The 12th, and largely, one of the brand’s most successful U.S. outposts, is situated within the Dairy Block development, in the heart of Denver’s Lower Downtown neighborhood. Founded in 2010 by Megan Ziems, Grace Loves Lace was born with the goal to revolutionize how dresses were designed and sold through an innovative e-commerce model, ensuring quality wasn’t dictated by a price tag, and brides didn’t have to be forced to sacrifice style for comfort. Now, Grace Loves Lace is renowned for its effortless, comfortable and accessible wedding dresses, hand-crafted and ethically made in Queensland, Australia. Ideal for adventurous Rocky Mountain brides, Grace Loves Lace’s made-to-order gowns omit traditional boning, offering the perfect amount of stretch and movability, while also making each bride feel beautiful and confident. The Denver showroom, located at 1821 Blake St., Suite 100, features four private dressing rooms and offers brides an hour of appointment-only one-on-one time with a Grace Loves Lace stylist to see, feel and try on the luxurious sample range of wedding gowns. The award-winning service experience is uniquely designed to feel like an extension of home, rather than the typical retail experience. Additionally, the down-to-earth, luxurious, warm and inviting interior exudes a true Australian vibe – laid-back living at its finest, a parallel to the Rocky Mountain lifestyle – only adding to the home-away-from-home experience. In addition to its collections of wedding gowns, Grace Loves Lace also features GRACE Mini dresses, veils and hair accessories – made from material offcuts – as well as bridesmaid dresses, occasion-wear and more. The Veiled Mask Project by Maggie Burns

Here we are, a year into the pandemic and we’re all trying to lead the most normal life possible. Life has been put on hold for so many and patience is wearing thin. However, the one constant with human beings is that we’re masters at adaptation. The reality: We’re still required to wear a mask in public until “the dial” disappears. Just as brides come in all shapes and sizes, so do their preferences. Some brides want to wear the standard mask when absolutely necessary and remove it as soon as possible. Some adapt by having fun with it and incorporating it seamlessly into their style for that big day. The masks featured illustrate 4 ways the same mask can be worn... Of course, there are thousands of other ways, so play with it and have fun! -Maggie Burns owner of Marie Margot Couture

Summer Weddings in Snowmass Village images by Megan Wynn

Snowmass Club

Over the past year, weddings have shifted into more intimate, outdoor-focused celebrations. With the summer wedding season within reach, there is still time to plan a romantic wedding nestled within the breathtaking mountain scenery of Snowmass Village. A vibrant summer community just nine miles from downtown Aspen, Snowmass Village is the perfect wedding destination. With incredible views of mountain vistas, bountiful hiking and biking trails, an exciting live music scene and more – easily accessible from the destination’s 95% hike-in/hike-out lodging – wedding-goers can enjoy their celebration far beyond the ceremony. From traditional venues to slope-side locations only accessible by gondola, Snowmass Village has a venue for every couple. Offering a spectacular mountain location, Lynn Britt Cabin is a lovely, log cabin nestled among towering aspen trees with endless mountain views. In the summer, the space expands into the adjacent flower-filled meadow. For those who love to be surrounded by nature, the Snowmass Chapel is a simple and rustic venue with exposed wooden beams and gorgeous stained-glass windows. In the summer, Brush Creek winds its way across the property, making for a picturesque and inviting entrance to the Chapel doors via a charming bridge. Snowmass Wedding Terrace, created by the Limelight Hotel Snowmass, is an on-mountain ceremonial spot that lies in a beautiful meadow surrounded by aspen trees. The venue offers a bridal suite in a nearby cabin and the Terrace is among the dreamiest locales to say “I do” in the Rocky Mountains. For a luxurious setting, Viceroy Snowmass’ dramatic indoor and outdoor wedding spaces are ideal for stylish and memorable weddings. From intimate gatherings, parties can enjoy the Vista Lawn, and for larger venues, The Pool Terrace and Grand Ballroom offer stunning, dramatic backdrops of Snowmass Village and the Rocky Mountains. Offering all the comforts of home in one spectacular place, with attentive resort service and the extensive amenities of the best in an exclusive club lifestyle, the Snowmass Club is a perfectly manicured, outdoor venue with views of Mt. Daly and Capitol Peak. Snowmass Village offers couples and wedding-goers the joy of doing what they’re meant to do: connect, celebrate and create memories to last a lifetime.

ORIGIN MILK ORIGIN’s milk is the first 100% A2 dairy milk produced by heritage Guernsey cows sold in the U.S., offering milk closer to the milk that humans have been drinking since the dawn of time. ORIGIN is the only milk brand to focus exclusively on Guernsey milk. Guernsey cows have not been modified for industrialized production, unlike Holsteins. They produce a milk that is superior in taste to other breeds but also more similar in nutrition and genetics to mother’s milk. So what is A2 milk? A2 milk only contains the A2 protein, while conventional milk contains the A1 and the A2 proteins. A1 proteins are scientifically linked to digestion issues. Studies have shown that 60-80% of people with lactose intolerance symptoms and/or dairy allergies can enjoy A2 milk. (ORIGIN is actually net-positive in terms of carbon footprint).
