Los senderos entre las montañas y algunos puntos de referencia donde fuimos guiados por expertos en historia y costumbres de cada sitio que visitamos en Loreto, nos regalaron la magia que necesitábamos investigar para contarles sobre este lugar que fue el primer asentamiento fértil para los jesuitas en 1697. No obstante, esta península ya era residencia de nativos – cazadores recolectores – quienes establecieron su hogar entre aguas termales, sorpresivas cañadas con agua dulce, cuevas, mar, sol y playa.

The trails between the mountains and some reference points where we were guided by experts in the history and customs of each place we visited in Loreto, gave us the magic that we needed to research to tell you about this place that was the first fertile settlement for the Jesuits in 1697 However, this peninsula was already the residence of the natives – hunter-gatherers - who established their home amid hot springs, surprising ravines with fresh water, caves, sea, sun, and beach.

En el marco de Gourmetour 2022, organizado por la Universidad del Golfo de California liderado por la rectora Lic. Yolanda Razo junto a la Unión Latinoamericana de Instituciones de Educación Superior, Ángel Carbajal se convirtió en el chef anfitrión.

Ángel Carbajal was the host Chef of Gourmetour 2022, organized by the University of the Gulf of California, led by dean Lic. Yolanda Razo, along with the Latin American Union of Higher Education Institutions.

Se presentaron una serie de clases magistrales que reunió durante tres días a participantes – alumnos y exponentes – de 11 países en Los Cabos. Los objetivos del evento anual son la promoción de la cultura, incentivar el nivel de competencias y habilidades, reafirmar técnicas culinarias y la vinculación de universitarios, docentes y empresarios.

This edition presented a series of master classes and brought participants from 11 countries to Los Cabos, where the event received students and speakers for three days. The goals of this event were: cultural promotion, encouragement of a high-level of skills and abilities, reaffirmation of culinary techniques, and networking of university students, teachers, and entrepreneurs.

El tema que se eligió para Gourmetour 2022 fue: “Año Internacional de la Pesca y la Acuicultura Artesanales”. La totoaba fue la especie que empleó el chef Ángel para exponer en su clase magistral. Explicó que es una especie que se cultiva en la ciudad de La Paz con tecnología de acuacultura en mar abierto, y mostró como se filetea para que el pescado pueda ser aprovechado en su totalidad y en diferentes recetas.

The theme for Gourmetour 2022 was "International Year of Artisanal Fishing and Aquaculture". Ángel spoke about totoaba, a species that is farmed in the city of La Paz using open sea aquaculture technology and showed how it is filleted so that the fish can be fully used in different recipes.

Un pilar de colaboración que es parte de la historia de Nicksan es la mentoría. Esa dinámica surgió por la amistad entre Masayuki Niikura y Ángel Carbajal dando origen a Nicksan hace más de 27 años.

No fue fácil afrontar la crisis, pero como decía Helen Keller: “Cuando una puerta de felicidad se cierra, otra se abre, pero muchas veces miramos tanto tiempo la puerta cerrada que no vemos la que se ha abierto para nosotros”. El espíritu emprendedor y la voluntad de los sudcalifornianos han desarrollado experiencias culinarias, eventos culturales, apreciación sensorial del entorno, cuidado del medio ambiente más una creciente y boyante industria inmobiliaria que amplía la oferta residencial, hotelera y de servicios adaptándose al nuevo estilo de vida. Que, por cierto, es la actividad familiar por excelencia para la cultura sudcaliforniana.

La mecánica de un espíritu apasionado por la adrenalina The mechanics of a heart with a passion for adrenaline Cuando nos enteramos de la posibilidad de entrevistar a una leyenda del deporte Off-Road, no esperábamos que un paseo en barco y una subida de 92 escalones nos llevara a platicar con Robert Ross Cota. Originario del cabo más austral de la península – Cabo San Lucas – actualmente vive en Agua Verde, Loreto. Es un apasionado de la adrenalina y la aventura; nos abrió las puertas de su casa y corazón para revivir algunos de los mejores recuerdos de su vida.

When we heard about the possibility of interviewing an Off-Road sports legend, we didn't expect that a boat ride and a climb up 92 steps would lead us to talk with Robert Ross. A native of our southernmost cape on the peninsula currently lives in Agua Verde, Loreto. He is passionate about adrenaline and adventure; he also opened the doors of his house and heart to relive some of the best memories of his life.

“Siempre busqué un lugar tranquilo para vivir. Cuando llegué a Agua Verde me hice amigo de los lugareños, quienes son excelentes anfitriones y amables conmigo. Me aceptaron haciéndome sentir como en casa. Poco a poco fue creciendo la confianza…y me llegué a sentir tan bien aquí, ¡que me quedé!".

"I always looked for a quiet place to live. When I arrived in Agua Verde, I made friends with the locals, who were excellent hosts and kind to me. They accepted me, making me feel at home. Little by little, confidence grew, and I got to feel so good here that I stayed".

Las tranquilas calles de un Cabo San Lucas apenas en expansión vieron crecer al pequeño Robert, divirtiéndose como lo hacían los jóvenes de entonces, sin la tecnología moderna. Robert recuerda con cariño su infancia y adolescencia junto a su familia materna, originaria de San José del Cabo.

The quiet streets of a barely expanding Cabo San Lucas saw little Robert grow up, having fun as the young ones did back then, without modern technology. Robert remembers his childhood and adolescence fondly next to her mother's family, originally from San José del Cabo.

Surfear, pescar o andar en motocicleta eran las actividades que más practicaba, para Robert la adrenalina era sinónimo de diversión y, de alguna manera, también corría por sus venas esa energía, ya que su padre posicionó el apellido Ross en torneos de motocicleta a nivel mundial.

Surfing, fishing, or riding a motorcycle, for Robert, adrenaline was synonymous with fun. Somehow, it also ran through his veins since his father was a well-known character in the region.

El padre de Robert fue uno de los primeros mecánicos de barcos en Cabo San Lucas; todos recurrían a él y también era piloto. Sin duda un personaje muy conocido en la región. Para Robert, el Off Road, es una emoción que le genera un reto personal y una disciplina donde la mejor recompensa son los recorridos y las anécdotas que surgen en cada competencia. Recuerda con mucho cariño los detalles de su primera participación donde ganó el primer lugar a pesar de los inconvenientes que se presentaron.

Robert's father also positioned the Ross name in motorcycle tournaments worldwide. He was one of the first ship mechanics in Cabo San Lucas; everyone turned to him, and he was also a pilot. For Robert, Off-Roading is a thrill that constitutes a personal challenge and a discipline where the best reward is the journey and the anecdotes that arise from each competition. He fondly remembers the details of his first participation, where he won first place despite the inconveniences.

Nuestra travesía comenzó persiguiendo un atardecer, siguiendo los pasos a los matices de un cielo escarlata que nos guiaba al norte de la península como una premonición de nuestro destino: “el mangle colorado” de los primeros pobladores y, si adivinaste bien, sabrás que ese lugar no podría ser otro que el municipio de Loreto. Custodiados por un paisaje montañoso – donde querrás detenerte a capturar un sinfín de fotografías dignas de una postal – nos dirigimos hacia Puerto Agua Verde: una pequeña comunidad, aproximadamente a 98.5 km de la ciudad de Loreto. La experiencia de viaje es muy distinta porque, si bien, no hay grandes complejos turísticos ni ostentosas construcciones en la zona, la belleza se encuentra en el lujo simple como acampar bajo un cielo repleto de estrellas, probar la cocina regional a base de deliciosos pescados y mariscos frescos, o conocer a sus habitantes que reciben a los viajeros con gran amabilidad. Una vez recargadas nuestras energías al acampar en la playa tranquilizados por el mar, Isla Catalana se convirtió en la siguiente parada del itinerario. Incluso antes de poner un pie en la arena fina, después del traslado en lancha, nos sorprendió el gigantismo que caracterizaba a los cactus y biznagas de más de 2 metros de altura, que crecen plácidamente en este montículo aislado, acompañados solo por una roca conocida como El Elefante.

From Puerto Agua Verde to Catalana Island Our journey began chasing a sunset, following the shades of a scarlet sky that guided us to the north of the peninsula as a premonition of our destination: "the red mangrove" of the first settlers and, if you guessed right, you would know that this place could only be in the municipality of Loreto.

Guarded by a mountainous landscape where you will want to stop to capture endless postcard-worthy photographs, we head towards Puerto Agua Verde: a small community, approximately 61.2mi from the city of Loreto. The travel experience is very different because, while there are no large tourist complexes or ostentatious buildings in the area, beauty is found in simple luxuries such as camping under a sky full of stars, trying delicious regional cuisine based on fresh fish and seafood, or meeting the locals who welcome travelers with great kindness. Once our energy was recharged after sleeping in the singular silence of the sea, Isla Catalana became the next stop on the itinerary. Even before setting foot on the fine sand after the boat ride, we were surprised by the enormous size that characterized the cacti and biznagas, which towered above us at more than 7 feet high as they grow placidly on this isolated mound, accompanied only by a rock known as El Elefante (The Elephant).

Chronicler of Loreto Además de ser un amante de la historia, el profesor Néstor es un fiel apasionado de la cultura de Loreto. Está orgulloso de cada aspecto que compone la tradición de esta ciudad. Uno de sus principales compromisos está impulsado por la vocación de difundir y rescatar el patrimonio histórico de este Pueblo Mágico. Con una erudición apasionada, el profesor nos relató anécdotas y hechos que describen la identidad del municipio. Nos compartió el honor que supone para él ser vir en beneficio de su ciudad gracias a su cargo como cronista municipal que ejerce desde el 2021. “Loreto tiene una gran tradición, pero hay que rescatarla e incluso, difundirla, principalmente entre las nuevas generaciones; inculcarles el amor a nuestra historia y el amor al progreso”.

In addition to being a history lover, Professor Néstor is passionate about the culture of Loreto. He is proud of every aspect that makes up the tradition of this city. One of his main commitments is driven by the vocation to spread and rescue the historical heritage of this Pueblo Mágico (Loreto has this designation as a “Magic Town”). The Kindhearted Essence of the Mission of San Francisco Javier de Viggé-Biaundó

En sus inicios, esta misión se construyó en el ojo de agua de Biaundó, pero fue abandonada por ataques de indígenas. Después se estableció como catequesis el 10 de marzo de 1699, su primera edificación fue una capilla de adobe y una casa anexa para el párroco residente Francisco María Piccolo. Sin embargo, en 1701 fue reestablecida en el sitio actual por el padre Juan de Ugarte, quién llegó desde Honduras. Entonces comenzó el cultivo de trigo, maíz, frijol, vid y árboles frutales, además de obra para hacer canales y estanques para almacenar agua. A 31km de Loreto observarás sencillos contrafuertes que marcan 321 años de antigüedad. El actual edificio misional, se considera "joya de las misiones de la península de Baja California". Es hecho de piedra, incluye bóvedas y paredes firmes, sacado de las canteras del arroyo de Santo Domingo, supervisado por el misionero jesuita Padre Miguel del Barco en 1744. En su interior conserva un retablo con 150 años de antigüedad de estilo barroco, estípite de madera tallada y dorada dedicado a San Francisco Javier, acompañado de imágenes religiosas traídas de otras partes de México.

In its beginnings, this mission was built in the Biaundó waterhole, but it was abandoned due to attacks by indigenous people. Dentro de la iglesia hay arcos con siglas que representan nombres de santos como: María, María de los Dolores, María Rosario, San Ignacio de Loyola – quien fue el fundador de la orden Jesuita – San Pablo, San José, San Antonio y, el santo patrono, San Francisco Javier. Detrás de la iglesia se encuentra un museo lleno de historia, cultura e identidad loretana. Su exposición consta de reliquias antiguas originales de los misioneros como: copias de registro de bautismo escritas por el padre Juan de Ugarte, túnicas procedentes de China – ya que San Ignacio de Loyola y San Francisco Javier, evangelizaron una parte de Asia – hechas en agradecimiento a su labor en el país asiático. Estas prendas fueron usadas por los misioneros en San Javier. También resguardan un misal del año 1734 que conserva las letras en latín.

diferencia de los pueblos vecinos como San José del Cabo o Todos Santos, en Cabo San Lucas el visitante no verá viejas casonas, de esas en las que es fácil imaginarse a una bella joven tocando una nostálgica melodía al piano, pero no por eso este puerto que vio los primeros destellos del desarrollo turístico durante la década de los sesenta, carece de particulares rincones donde hallar pinceladas del pasado. En el centro se ubica la Plaza Amelia Wilkes Ceseña, nombrada así en homenaje a la maestra nacida en la antigua villa de pescadores y que realizó, además de su trabajo docente, una gran labor social. Dentro de la explanada está el Museo de Historia Natural, único recinto museográfico del municipio, donde se resguardan importantes piezas paleontológicas e históricas que nos llevan por un rápido recorrido por la historia del sur de la península, desde su formación geológica, sus grupos indígenas, los primeros exploradores, el periodo de las misiones y la formación de la localidad y sus personajes. Curiosamente el recinto que ocupa el museo fue construido durante los años cincuenta para ser la escuela del pueblo, incluso se rumora que el fantasma de la maestra Amelia aún recorre los antiguos salones.

Californian Literature Tricentenario de las misiones al sur de la California Sobre el Libro Lanzado en el marco del CCC aniversario de la Misión de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz, este libro es una compilación de 12 documentos escritos por los misioneros jesuitas en el periodo de 1719-1744 que relatan su labor de evangelización en la península, el mundo de los primeros pobladores y aspectos que conformaban la cultura de estos grupos indígenas. Adicional al material y como si de una segunda obra se tratase, el libro cuenta notas detalladas al pie de sus páginas que permiten al lector una mejor comprensión por medio de la contextualización histórica y referencias de otras obras que ayudan a enriquecer el acervo sobre los hechos que tienen lugar en este período. Sobre los autores Luis Domínguez Bareño Originario de La Paz, Baja California Sur, es licenciado en filosofía. Luis cuenta con estudios en Ciencias Políticas y Administración Pública, y una maestría en Historia Regional. Ha desempeñado labores como cronista municipal del XV Ayuntamiento de La Paz y director del Archivo Histórico Pablo L. Martínez. Actualmente forma parte de Estudios Locales A.C. y Escritores Sudcalifornianos A.C., donde se desempeña como secretario. Armando Romero-Monteverde Al igual que Luis, Armando nació en la capital del estado. Es licenciado en etnología y estudió Historia Regional. Su obra "Juan Díaz, el conquistador de perlas" fue publicada por el Senado de la República Mexicana y seleccionada como Obra Conmemorativa del Bicentenario en 2010 por la Universidad Nacional de México, UNAM. About the book Launched as part of the 300th anniversary of the Mission of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz, this book is a compilation of 12 documents written by the Jesuit missionaries in the period of 1719-1744 that relate their evangelization work in the peninsula, the world of the first settlers and aspects that made up the culture of these indigenous groups. About the authors Luis Domínguez Bareño Originally from La Paz, Baja California Sur, he has a degree in philosophy, Luis has studied Political Science and Public Administration and a Master's in Regional History. He has worked as a municipal chronicler for the 15th City Council of La Paz and Director of the Pablo L. Martínez Historical Archive and is currently part of Estudios Locales A.C. and Escritores Sudcalifornianos A.C., where he serves as secretary. Armando Romero Monteverde Like Luis, Armando was born in the state capital and has a degree in ethnology, he studied Regional History. His work "Juan Díaz, el conquistador de perlas (the conqueror of pearls)" was published by Mexico’s Senate and selected as a Bicentennial Commemorative Work in 2010 by Mexico’s National Univeersity, UNAM. Armando currently works as a professor and active researcher at the INAH Center in Baja California Sur.

Como parte de su memorable estadía en las instalaciones de Puerta Cortés, los golfistas disfrutaron del único campo Gary Player Signature en México, recinto que fungió como la sede para tres días de absoluta diversión en torno a este deporte.

For this very hot summer, we chose a sparkling wine specially manufactured for Baja Wines in the Ezequiel Montes region. A great wine and at a super price! It is perfect for any time and even more so during hot weather season. It can be used to make the famous Aperol Spritz or some good mimosas. White wines are the pairing for this heat. The wines we list are refreshing and from different vineyards. We started with two great Sauvignon Blancs, one from Mexico and one from New Zealand. A wine with a great name because it is one of the most important wineries in Austria, it is an organic Grüner Veltliner grape with great acidity and citric notes. And finally, a wine from the Vinho Verde region in Portugal with a slight effervescence. All the wines share fresh profiles and have all the potential to make your summer the best.

They found ranches scattered throughout the mountains, they were captivated by the way of life and the devotion to nature. They had the opportunity to see the architectural works left in the not-so-distant past by the Jesuit missionaries and discover spaces where the ancient settlers left their mark on the peninsula through rock art.

El equipo de Tendencia recorre esas rutas en un viaje a la región central de la California del Sur, con el propósito de ser un puente entre el patrimonio natural y cultural, para motivar al viajero a recorrer este paraíso del reino de los guaycuras.

La Sierra de la Giganta y el Golfo de California son testigos de esta singular región. Loreto, reino de los guaycuras, fue capital de las Californias de 1697 a 1777.

La aventura puede iniciar en la misión de Loreto, lugar que representa un ícono histórico y turístico, donde su gente conserva con respeto y admiración su edificación de aproximadamente 325 años. El corazón de este pintoresco poblado alberga al museo de las misiones jesuitas. En él se resguardan y exhiben alrededor de 300 piezas, entre vestigios arqueológicos, pinturas y esculturas sacras de los siglos XVII y XVIII, campanas, incensarios y documentos antiguos. Destaca una campana que cayó al mar en 1875, después de que quisieron llevársela de la región, 100 años después (1975) unos pescadores la sacaron al atraparla en sus redes.

The adventure may begin at the Loreto mission, a place that represents a historical and tourist icon, where its people preserve its approximately 325-year-old building with respect and admiration. Rancho Santo Domingo

Cuando partimos desde San Javier al recorrido hacía Rancho Santo Domingo fuimos guiados por Ignacio Bastidas Martínez. Nos cautivaba la emoción por seguir descubriendo el legado de arte rupestre que plasmaron los primeros pobladores de la península en la superficie rocosa de Cueva de La Serpiente. Si bien la sorpresa y el asombro es una constante en el viaje, no visualizamos que este ejido a menos de 16km de la Misión de San Francisco Javier ocultaba un tesoro histórico franciscano, hasta entonces desconocido para los corazones aventureros que nos encontrábamos en esta expedición. Rancho Santo Domingo es el hogar de Humberto Verdugo García y familia, y fue nuestro punto de partida para visitar Cueva de la Serpiente y La Presentación, ambos sitios de importante valor para la cultura del ranchero sudcaliforniano. La esencia de estos vestigios se encuentra en cada rincón. El rancho está acondicionado con lo necesario para realizar excursiones y conocer algunas de las faenas como son: ganadería, agricultura y elaboración de queso, dulces regionales, entre otros productos locales.

When we started from San Javier on our tour guided by Ignacio Bastidas Martínez, we were overwhelmed by the emotion of continuing our discovery of the legacy that the first settlers of the peninsula shaped, now on the rocky surface of the Cueva de La Serpiente. While surprise and wonder are a constant of the trip, we never thought that this ejido, less than 10 miles from the Mission of San Francisco Javier, hid a historical treasure, unknown until then to the adventurous hearts that formed this expedition. In addition to being the home of Humberto Verdugo García and his family, this was our starting point to visit La Presentation and the Cueva de la Serpiente, sites of important value for the ranching culture of Baja California Sur. The essence of these vestiges is found in every corner of this ejido, equipped with everything necessary to start the tours, some activities of the place are livestock, agriculture and cheese and regional sweets making, among other local products.

Cueva La Serpiente Quiso el destino – o tal vez fue solo una coincidencia – que Don Humberto descubriera este lugar siguiendo a un par de chivos que se abrían paso entre las rocas que forman parte de la cadena montañosa de Sierra La Giganta. Entonces, con gran admiración descubrió una gruta en lo más alto con arte prehispánico. Las pinturas rupestres retratan elementos que formaban parte de la vida cotidiana de los nativos que habitaron la península hace más de 4 mil años. Pudimos acceder a este espacio de la mano de Brayanth de Jesús Velazco Verdugo, nieto de Don Humberto.

Cueva La Serpiente (The Snake Cave) As fate would have it –or perhaps it was just a coincidence– that Don Humberto discovered this place while following a couple of goats that made their way through the rocks that are part of the Sierra La Giganta Mountain range. With great surprise he discovered a grotto, at the top of the mountain, adorned with pre-Hispanic art that we were able to access under the guidance of Brayanth de Jesús Velazco Verdugo, grandson of Don Humberto. The cave paintings portray elements that were part of the daily life of the indigenous groups that inhabited the peninsula more than 4 thousand years ago.

Es una zona con restos de construcciones que revelan la breve pero contundente estancia de la orden franciscana en Sudcalifornia: una capilla, una enorme pila de agua, un muro de más de 150mts, área de cultivo y canales para redirigir el agua componen a este sitio que data de 1769.

Gustavo de la Peña Avilés Tras la expulsión de los jesuitas por orden del rey de España, Carlos III, a principios de 1768, arribaron al puerto de Loreto un grupo de franciscanos pertenecientes al Colegio de San Fernando que era la sede principal en la Nueva España de la orden religiosa fundada por San Francisco de Asís. Los religiosos de hábitos cafés y cordones con tres nudos ceñidos a la cintura eran liderados por fray Junípero Serra y quien asignó a sus compañeros a cada una de las 17 misiones que habían sido establecidas por la Compañía de Jesús - jesuitas - a lo largo de la península de California. Para la misión de San Francisco Javier, Serra eligió al padre Francisco Palou, nativo de Palma de Mallorca y que dedicaría 18 años de su vida a la labor evangelizadora en las indómitas tierras californianas. Palou recibiría una de las misiones más productivas de la comarca, ya que disponía de una fuente segura de agua que permitía la siembra de maíz, viñas, olivos e higueras, además de registrar un buen número de cabezas de ganado. Fue en uno de los parajes que servían para la siembra y que se conocía desde la época de los jesuitas, donde Palou estableció una visita en 1769 a la que bautizó como “La Presentación”, situada al sur de San Javier, junto al arroyo de Santo Domingo.

At the beginning of 1768 and after the expulsion of the Jesuits by order of the king of Spain, Carlos III, a group of Franciscans belonging to the Colegio de San Fernando, the main headquarters in New Spain for the religious order founded by San Francisco de Asís, arrived at the port of Loreto. The missionaries in brown robes and cords with three knots tied around the waist were led by Fray Junípero Serra, who assigned his companions to each of the seventeen missions that had been established by the Society of Jesus - Jesuits - throughout the California peninsula. For the San Francisco Javier mission, Serra chose Father Francisco Palou, a native of Palma de Mallorca who would dedicate eighteen years of his life to evangelization work in the untamed Californian lands. Palou would receive one of the most productive missions in the region, since he had a safe source of water that allowed the planting of corn, grapes, olive, and fig trees, in addition to registering a good number of cattle. It was in one of the places that served for planting and that was known since the time of the Jesuits, where Palou established a “visita” in 1769 which he christened as "La Presentation", located south of San Javier, next to the Santo Domingo creek.

A diferencia de una misión, las visitas eran pequeños establecimientos en el que frecuentemente se edificaba una capilla sencilla y se ocupada temporalmente, por lo que, en La Presentación, sitio enclavado en medio de una meseta, solo se construyeron dos edificios de piedra, que fueron usados como iglesia y troje, dos corrales y una pila de agua. Es curioso que, en la amplia correspondencia escrita por fray Palou, únicamente hizo una breve mención de este lugar al decir que era un sitio: “(...) en el que se suele sembrar, los años que llueve mucho, como dos fanegas de maíz.” En el breve período en el que los franciscanos permanecieron en la península (1768-1773), solamente realizaron una construcción, que fue precisamente La Presentación, que al igual de la misión de San Francisco Javier permanecieron en uso hasta 1817, cuando ambas fueron abandonadas bajo la administración de los dominicos.

Unlike a mission, the visitas were small constructions in which a simple chapel was often erected and was only occupied temporarily, so that, on the site, nestled in the middle of a plateau, only two stone buildings were built, which were used as a church and barn, two corrals and a water fountain. It is curious that in the extensive correspondence written by Fray Palou, he only made a brief mention of this place when he said that it was a place “(...) where it is usual to sow, in the years when it rains a lot, like two bushels of corn.” In the short period in which the Franciscans remained on the peninsula (1768-1773), they only erected one construction, which was precisely La Presentation, which, like the San Francisco Javier mission, remained in use until 1817, when both were abandoned, under the administration of the Dominicans.

San Bruno (1683) Es considerada el comienzo de las misiones en la península y fue establecida por el jesuita Eusebio Francisco Kino en 1683. Originalmente fue nombrada por los jesuitas como Real de San Bruno. Aunque en la actualidad es difícil encontrar vestigios de este lugar, fue un asentamiento de suma importancia. Se convirtió en visita para la misión de Loreto 14 años después de su construcción. La Visita de San Bruno consistía en una iglesia, una pequeña fortaleza y algunas habitaciones para los nativos. *

It is considered the base of the missions in the south of the peninsula and was established by the Jesuit Eusebio Francisco Kino in 1683. It was originally named by the Spaniards Real de San Bruno. Es conocida como la madre de todas las misiones de las Californias porque desde este punto partieron los misioneros a evangelizar el resto de Baja California Sur. El edificio de la iglesia, a lo largo de la historia, tuvo algunas modificaciones y remodelaciones a finales del siglo XVIII y, posteriormente, a finales del siglo XIX. Conserva una fachada estilo barroco y algunos cuadros al óleo con arte religioso colonial y exhibe un museo dedicado a las misiones, que muestra artículos religiosos de los siglos XVI y XVII.

Founded in 1697, under the direction of Jesuit Father Juan María de Salvatierra. It is known as the mother of all the missions of the Californias because this was the departure point of all the missionaries who left to evangelize the rest of Baja California Sur. The church, throughout history, had some modifications and renovations at the end of the 18th century and, later, at the end of the 19th century. It conserves a baroque-style façade and some oil paintings with colonial religious art and exhibits a museum dedicated to the missions, which shows religious articles from the 16th and 17th centuries.

San Francisco Javier (Viague-Biaundó) (1699) Al principio se edificó una pequeña capilla junto al Ojo de Agua de Biaundó en 1699 por el padre Francisco Piccolo, pero se abandonó tras el ataque de los nativos de la región. Dos años más tarde, en 1701, se restableció en su sitio actual por el padre Juan de Ugarte, comenzó con cultivos de grano y árboles frutales, así como canales de riego y almacenes de agua. La iglesia es una de las mejores conservadas y, al igual que la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó, conserva un Museo Misional. Fue dedicada a San Javier por ser considerado “El Apóstol de las Indias” por la labor que este santo realizó en evangelizaciones desde la India hasta Japón.

San Juan Bautista Londó (1699) Ubicada en la zona norte de Loreto, esta visita fue construida por el padre Juan María Salvatierra en 1699. Estuvo en función alrededor de 10 años, pero fue abandonada tras la disminución de la población que se vio afectada por una epidemia. Aunque actualmente se ha perdido gran parte del edificio de la iglesia, aún prevalece un muro de piedra y un cementerio en el que descansan los primeros apellidos de la región. Actualmente se encuentra rodeada por zonas de ganadería, rancherías y campos de cultivo. Un dato particular sobre estos cuatro primeros asentamientos es que fueron de gran relevancia para los misioneros que desde allí realizaron exploraciones alrededor de la zona, expandiéndose poco a poco por Baja California Sur. *Información obtenida del libro: La Arquitectura Misional de Baja California Sur.

First, a small chapel was built next to the Ojo de Agua de Biaundó (freshwater spring) in 1699 by Father Francisco Piccolo, but it was abandoned after the attack of the first settlers in the region. The Boys and Girls Club’s main goal is to provide young people with a safe and healthy environment where they can participate in fun and constructive activities that stimulate their potential, inspiring them to become proactive citizens of their community.

Rubie Galindo, the club's operational director, kindly introduced us to its facilities on a tour of the venue and each area within it:

• Ludoteca Es el espacio más nuevo en las instalaciones, está a cargo de Yessica Guillen, como directora de programas, y la psicóloga Teresita de Jesús, ambas capacitadas para utilizar cada área atendiendo a los visitantes de entre 6 a 12 años.

• Toy library It is its newest space, led by Yessica Guillen, Programs director, and psychologist Teresita de Jesús. Both are trained to use each area, serving children from 6 to 12 years old.

• Salón de usos múltiples Es un espacio amplio, donde se desarrollan la mayoría de las actividades de convivencia. Está adaptado para tener salas de lectura, clases de dibujo o arte y equipado con material didáctico para ser utilizados por diferentes edades.

• Multipurpose room It is a large space, where most of the interaction activities take place. Each corner is adapted to have reading rooms, drawing or art classes, it is equipped with learning material to be used by different age groups.

• Área común Aquí los participantes pueden relajarse, socializar, hacer tareas, comer e incluso disfrutar de una zona de juegos con futbolito, ping-pong o en ocasiones, participar en clases de zumba o alguna activación física, así como exponer sus trabajos como galería de arte.

• Common area Here the participants can relax, socialize, do homework, eat, and even enjoy a games area with foosball, ping pong, or at times, participate in Zumba and physical activation classes, as well as exhibit their work in the art gallery.

• Cocina A través de la información impartida por nutriólogos que enseñan buenos hábitos alimenticios, esta zona motiva a los participantes a seguir un estilo de vida saludable

• Kitchen This area motivates young people to follow a healthy lifestyle through information given by nutritionists who teach good eating habits to the children who are part of the club.

• Sala de cómputo Se espera que en un futuro cuente con 12 equipos y esté diseñada para llevar a cabo talleres de computación y sistemas. Todo espacio del club cuenta con las medidas necesarias para responder a una emergencia. Tienen el apoyo y supervisión de Protección Civil.

• Computer room It is expected that in the future it will have 12 computers and is designed to provide computer and IT workshops. This, like every space in the club, has all the necessary measures to respond to an emergency, supported by the supervision of Civil Protection.

• Oficina ComuniCabo AC A pesar de ser una organización independiente, tiene un espacio asignado para proporcionar terapias de lenguaje, esta especialidad se encarga de evaluar, diagnosticar y dar tratamiento, de manera gratuita.

• ComuniCabo AC Office Despite being an independent organization, it has a space in the building where they provide free speech therapy to those who need it.

Estamos muy contentos por la confianza que nos ha brindado la comunidad y, aunque actualmente estamos en San José del Cabo, queremos, eventualmente beneficiar a todo Baja California Sur”, Rubie Galindo, directora operativa. Renato Mendonca se integró como presidente de la nueva mesa directiva, muy entusiasmado nos compartió que su tarea principal es inspirar y motivar a los integrantes del Club de Niños y Niñas de Baja California Sur para unidos cumplir con sus objetivos, y enterar a la sociedad sobre el trabajo que están realizando en beneficio de la juventud en Los Cabos. El reto es de todos.
