I’ve worked at the Johnson Bentley pool for the past five years and, I’ve enjoyed every day! When I’m not working, I’m usually outside enjoying the Okanagan fresh air. I’m very active and enjoy going to the gym, hiking and playing soccer. I also am a hobby photographer-mostly capturing landscape and nature shots. The water has always been a part of my life so I consider myself so lucky to have this opportunity to help others learn to love the water and stay safe while they enjoy it!

Bridge-Larry Cohen’s 2/1

Goren was replaced by Standard American and now Standard American is being replaced by 2/1. Many bridge teachers are using 2/1 for their novice classes because this bidding system, overall, tends to be more accurate resulting in improved results. It is not a difficult transition from S.A. to 2/1 and Larry’s easy to understand booklet is great guide on how to use 90% of the 2/1 system. Even if you do not intend on switching systems, attending this course will help you defend and bid more effectively against teams who do use it. The textbook is mandatory at a cost of $20 or it can be purchased as an eBook through Amazon for $9.99. INSTRUCTOR: Wendy LOCATION: Westbank Lions Community Centre

DESCRIPTION

Research shows that participation in sport and recreation increases a child’s chance of success in life.

Some of the criterion to apply for the Jumpstart program includes: • Eligible children are between the ages of 4 and 18 years. • Eligible children participating in sport and recreation in West Kelowna and Peachland. • Funding goes to individuals, not to teams. • Up to $600 per child can be allocated per year. • Funding should be for a sustained program that lasts a season therefore a one-week camp would not qualify. • Funding can be provided to the same child for successive seasons, although the goal is that Jump Start continues to fund new children.

The West Kelowna chapter is made up of organizations that provide sport and recreation opportunities for children in our community including: West Kelowna Recreation and Culture, Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs, Westbank First Nations, Kids Sport and the West Kelowna Canadian Tire store.

• Funding preference is to pay for registration fees with consideration to fund equipment or transportation costs on a case by case basis. • Applications are not retroactive and must be submitted before the start of the season.

778-797-8800 • West Kelowna Recreation & Culture

Canadian Tire Jumpstart® has helped give more than 159,573 kids in financial need, the chance to play. Funding is based on the individual child’s financial need. The goal is to help those children who would not have been able to participate in a physical activity without the assistance of the JumpStart program.
