OVERVIEW The Philippines total land area comprises of approximately 300,000 square kilometers spread across 7,110 islands. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country’s population has reached approximately 100.1 million people as of 2015 and is compounding an average growth rate of 1.7% to 1.9% a year. Nearly 48.05% of the entire Filipino population is congested in urban areas. The country is home to more than 85,000 manufacturing industries, and 96,000 square kilometers of agricultural land.
With waste water pressing significant pollution issues in Philippine water-bodies and annual dry seasons, effects on potable water supply is certain. Access to clean and adequate drinking water is becoming rapidly scarce. As of 2003 about 58% of Philippine ground water is soiled with coliform making the supply subject to proper treatment. Majority of the population is experiencing water shortages during the dry season.

LAKE MAINIT HYDROPOWER PROJECT Arcadis was commissioned as Independent Technical Advisor for the construction of the 25MW Hydroelectric Power Plant at Lake Mainit in the Northeast portion of the island of Mindanao, Philippines. Under the agreement, Arcadis provides technical services in two phases, namely: construction monitoring; and operation monitoring. As an ITA, Arcadis was tasked to apprise the lender quarterly regarding the progress of project implementation, ensure the project progresses satisfactorily and advise on any remedy needed. EAST BAY WATER SYSTEM The East Bay Water System Project is Manila Water’s mid-term solution to address the looming water supply-demand gap and augment their current water supply in the areas of Makati, Taguig, Pasig and Cainta in Rizal and would benefit approximately 170,000 households or about 1 million people. Arcadis, in association with Cardno, was engaged by Manila Water to provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management Services for this project. Arcadis’ scope includes the reference design and detailed design review of the Water Treatment Plant and Intake Structure, Procurement of D&B Contractor and the overall Construction Management of the project.
