INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

Santa Fe College’s Information Technology Education (ITE) program offers students four Associate in Science (A.S.) degree options in:

• Computer Information Technology

• IT Security

• Network Systems Technology

• Programming and Analysis

Graduates of the two-year associate-level program will have the skillset needed to enter the workforce and meet the growing demand in IT careers. While earning their A.S. degree, students can also work toward earning industry-recognized certifications to expand career opportunities. After completing one of the A.S. programs, students can continue toward earning their Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Information Systems Technology.

CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES DEFINED

Certificate programs offer career and technical courses to prepare you for entry directly into employment. A certificate typically takes four months to two years to complete. However, students must meet specific basic skills requirements in English, mathematics, and writing.

Associate in Science Degree

The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program is designed to get you ready for a career, but in some cases, it may transfer to a bachelor’s program. A.S. programs are a good balance of general education coursework and hands-on training with the end goal of preparing you to enter the workforce with a competitive skill set. The A.S. degree typically takes two years to complete.

A bachelor’s degree is the highest degree you can achieve in undergraduate education. Santa Fe College offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degrees in certain program areas. For most, a bachelor’s degree at SF is the next step after obtaining an A.A. or an A.S. degree. It allows students to continue to build skills and advance in a career field. A bachelor’s degree typically requires two additional years of classes after completing an A.A. or A.S. degree.

Network and computer systems administrators are responsible for the day-to-day operation of these networks. They organize, install, and support an organization’s computer systems, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication systems.

In the NST program, you will work with other students in a collaborative environment using a combination of advanced virtual training and hands-on, lab-based training. Virtual training allows you to gain skills through repetition in a safe and secure sandbox environment. Hands-on labs allow you to use skills gained in the virtual environment to implement and develop real-world solutions.
