WELCOME! Welcome to the 2022-2023 season of the arts at Santa Fe College. Students and faculty in SF's Art, Dance, Music and Theatre departments are proud to offer this season's performances in the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall, the Lyceum Concert Hall, and exhibits in the Santa Fe College Art Gallery and other galleries across the college. There is also the SF Master Artist Series where world renowned artists come to perform and engage with the students, both behind the scenes and sometimes collaboratively in live performances.


Each year SF students work tirelessly to provide the community professional-level entertainment from our music, dance and theatre ensembles. Celebrate with us the journey that we have traveled as we feature our faculty and students alongside with world-renowned artists, establishing SF as a community destination for quality cultural programming which entertains, educates, and delights audiences of all ages.


Master Artist Series

BÁRBARA PADILLA September 15, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Overflowing with a contagious passion and gifted with an inspirational and unforgettable voice, Bárbara's vocal ability captivated the world as a runner up on the hit TV show America's Got Talent. The show will also feature performances by Santa Fe College vocal students. This performance will benefit the Climb for Cancer Foundation and oncology programs at UF Health.


MITCH MCKAY IN CONCERT September 30, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Santa Fe College associate professor of music and piano, Mitch McKay, will perform a solo concert.


WINDS & CLASSICS October 6, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Lyceum Concert Hall April 6, 2023, 7:30 p.m., Lyceum Concert Hall Join us for the Santa Fe College Winds Orchestra concert. The ensemble will perform classical and contemporary concert compositions under the direction of Dr. David Smith.


AUDIENCE October 13-15, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall After a career that spanned more than 30 years, director Terry Klenk offers his final production - AUDIENCE, by Michael Frayn. This production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. (www.concordtheatricals.com)


Master Artist Series

DIMENSIONS DANCE THEATRE OF MIAMI October 27, 2022, 8 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Since the company’s inception in 2016, Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami (DDTM) has been shaking up classical dance culture in South Florida and beyond. Founded by former Miami City Ballet leading principal couple, Carlos Guerra and Jennifer Kronenberg, DDTM debuted to rousing critical acclaim, as a cutting edge, yet classically based contemporary ballet company.



YOUNG DANCERS SHOWCASE


October 28-29, 2022, 8 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The Young Dancers Showcase, Programs A and B, will showcase the talents of middle and high school dancers from throughout the state of Florida. The showcase performances are an end-of-day culmination of activities for this weekend-long immersive workshop. Sponsored by SF and UF, and with featured works from the Santa Fe College and University of Florida dance programs, and a guest artist welcome performance on October 27 at 8 p.m. by dancers from the Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, Fl. These dance concerts promise to delight and engage all interested dance audiences. This company appears as part of the Master Artist in residence program at SF.


Master Artist Series

LUMINARIO BALLET November 4, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The combination of classically trained ballet dancers inspired by the emotional and acrobatic force of the Bolshoi Ballet and world class aerialists from Cirque du Soleil, perform to music from Stravinsky to Led Zeppelin, providing an artistically and emotionally wild and wonderful experience for the audience.


STUDENT PIANO RECITAL November 15, 2022, 6:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall April 18, 2023, 6:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Come hear the progress of the SF Piano students performing selections of classical and contemporary piano compositions, under the direction of Dr. Mitch McKay.


AN EVENING OF JAZZ November 17, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Do you like Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane? Then come enjoy the Santa Fe College Big Band, Jazz Combo and Rhythm & Blues band, directed by Dr. David Smith.


SONGS OF THE SEASON December 1, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The Santa Fe College Singers, under the direction of Lynn Sandefur, will perform holiday favorites from different decades and styles including classical, jazz, pop and gospel, accompanied by SF piano professor Mitch McKay and the Santa Fe College Big Band, directed by Dr. David Smith.


HOLIDAY AT SANTA FE December 3, 2022, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Come watch Perry the mouse and Santa Claus himself journey through the forest to make it snow in the Fine Arts Hall! Dance Theatre of Santa Fe and SF Teaching Zoo collaborate to bring a thrilling performance to young and adult imaginations alike. Enjoy familiar Holiday music during this audience interactive performance, followed by a meet and greet with the animals in the lobby!


Master Artist Series

ALEXANDER HANSON February 6 - March 10, 2023, Santa Fe College Art Gallery Opening Reception February 6, 2023. On Campus February 6-10, 2023. On Exhibit February 6 -March 10, 2023. Alexander Hanson received his MFA from the University of Iowa and now instructs sculpture at the University of Arkansas. His work often focuses on the use of objects, constructed and found, as a way to ask pointed questions. His work often takes form through installation or built environments. He will be creating a site-specific installation and spending a week on campus as a visiting artist in residency.


VALENTINE'S DAY SWING DANCE February 10, 2023, 6:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Lobby Treat your sweetheart to a new Valentine's tradition. Swing classes begin at 6 p.m. and then swing dancing, with the band goes on into the night with the Santa Fe College Big Band under the direction of Dr. David Smith.


WINDS GO POP February 23, 2023, 7:30 p.m., Lyceum Concert Hall For an enchanting musical evening, join us for the SF Winds Go Pop concert presenting an evening of traditional concert band classics featuring solo performers and small ensembles all under the direction of Dr. David Smith.


ELEMENTS OF STYLE March 31 - April 1, 2023, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Dance Theatre of Santa Fe presents their annual concert showcasing a variety of dance styles. Directed by Melissa Brenner, Elements of Style will feature guest artist premieres, with more works by adjunct faculty: Jessie Dominguez-Reyes, Herman Ramos and Mohamed DaCosta.


JAZZ UP SPRING! April 20, 2023, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Join us for a cool spring concert of hot jazz featuring the Santa Fe College Jazz Band under the direction of Dr. David Smith. In this upbeat, fun concert, you can expect to hear the sound of great jazz composers through the years.


SING INTO SPRING April 27, 2023, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Springtime at the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall is best celebrated with a true variety choral concert, with different types of music from different eras. Directed by Lynn Sandefur.


CITY OF ANGELS May 19-20 and 26-27, 2023, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall City of Angels is a musical comedy with a book by Larry Gelbart, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by David Zippel. The musical weaves together two plots: the world of a writer trying to adapt his novel into a screenplay and the world of the film he is writing. The musical is an homage to the film noir genre of motion pictures of the 1940s and is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. (www.concordtheatricals.com)


ROOM TO DANCE June 9-10, 2023, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The annual student-choreographed dance performance. Come and see the dancers enthusiastically perform their own favorite styles. Students also contribute to the costuming and promotion of this audience favorite.

◆ September 2 - October 7, 2022 – Santa Fe Gallery: Joanna Clark - Guilty Pleasures Opening Reception September 2, 2022. Guilty Pleasures is a mixed media exhibition featuring sculpture and assemblage installation, as well as drawing and print images. The work in this unique exhibition was made over the last two years from found and repurposed materials. The Annual Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition features the work the Santa Fe College visual art instructors. This exhibit features mediums ranging from painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and photography. Competitors have 48 hours to shoot, edit, score and post a 3 to 5 minute short film based on a blind topic, line of dialogue and prop. Films will be screened at Santa Fe College's newly renovated 236 seat, state of the art Lyceum Concert Hall. ◆ February 17, 2023 – The Gainesville Orchestra: Dvorak-Symphony 8 ◆ February 17-18, 2023 – Sci-Fi Film Festival SCIFI Gainesville will screen at Santa Fe College's the newly renovated 236 seat, state of the art Lyceum Concert Hall. Additionally, we will host a local art show at the venue and online during the event. ◆◆ February 23, 2023 – Winds Go Pop ◆ March 13-20, 2023 – Santa Fe Gallery: Sustainable Student Art Competition The Sustainable Student Art Competition is an annual student art exhibition and competition featuring artwork made from recycled and repurposed materials. ◆ March 31 - April 1, 2023 – Elements of Style ◆◆ April 6, 2023 – Spring Winds and Classics ◆ April 14, 2023 – The Gainesville Orchestra: Meredith Willson - The Music Man ◆ April 14-28, 2023 – Santa Fe Gallery: Student Art Show Opening Reception April 14, 2023. The Annual Student Art Show is the yearly showcase of Santa Fe College student artwork. This juried exhibit features work made for or in class from the various subjects taught in the Visual Art's program. This includes painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and photography.
