For over 20 years, Santa Fe College’s Community Education has brought College for Kids programs to our community. We are offering three weeks of camp running Monday thru Friday. Counselor In Training (CIT) Counselor In Training (CIT) is a work-oriented, leadership program which gives teens an opportunity to assist College For Kids instructors during the CFK summer camp. CITs must be available to attend mandatory training from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. on June 8. CITs receive leadership training and earn 105 service hours. Eligibility requirements: Potential CITs will be between the ages of 15-18 and/or rising 10th-12th grade students. Tuition: $120 three week camp | Applications are due by May 13. Art, Crafts and Hobbies Art Your Way

This class will assist the student in developing skills in their chosen medium, which may include, watercolors, acrylics or graphite drawing. Students will be working on their individual projects and assistance will be provided as needed by the instructor. ART0067.1D2 4 Tue., starts 6/7, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Drawing Basics

Using only a graphite pencil, we will explore the quality of line to describe organic and inorganic shapes, soft edges and hard edges. The same descriptive lines will be used to draw contour and cross contour shapes and finally these objects will be grouped together to form an interesting composition in correct proportion, one object to another. Giant Sunflower Sculptures

Wish your flowers could just bloom forever? Time eternal? We have a solution - let’s weld giant sunflowers! In this two-session class, students will learn fundamental welding and fabrication techniques while working on their gigantic sunflowers. We will design and form components for our giant flower heads using a myriad of non-traditional metalworking approaches. Once we have our parts, we will weld them all together and design our bases for outdoor installation. These giant sunflowers will be the talk of the neighborhood! Exploring Watercolors

Learn the basic techniques needed in this beginner course to produce lively, colorful, luminous and exciting watercolor paintings. Master the application of effective washes and multi-layered glazes. Welding: Springs and Sprockets Scrap Metal

This three-session course will provide students with an intro to MIG welding and how to identify and prepare found metal for welding. Students will begin with a small, guided project and are then encouraged to experiment and build with various found materials provided. Students are encouraged to bring their unique scrap metal but must first review the instructor’s materials. Only non-painted, non-galvanized carbon steel is acceptable. No cast iron; all safety gear will be provided. Writing Arts Intro To Screenwriting

This class is an introduction to the basics of writing a screenplay. Learn to think about your protagonist and antagonist, plot your story in a screenplay format, and avoid some of the classic mistakes made by beginning screenplay writers. Even achieve writing the first ten or fifteen pages (or the first act). Participation will be encouraged, as discussions are part of this class. Belly Dance For Everyone!

Belly Dancing is a fun and creative way to get physical and offers a wonderful low impact aerobic workout for women of all ages, shapes, and abilities. Lore And History of The Ocklawaha River *

On this kayak/canoe trip explore the fascinating and often quirky lore of some plants and animals growing along this wild, scenic river. Today, the river is a world of egrets, herons, gators, and other wildlings, but an Indian mound and a steamboat landing—both of which we’ll visit—attest to a colorful human history. Suncoast: World of Mangroves *

Saltwater environments require interesting adaptions of the many species that live in them. Nowhere in NorthCentral Florida are these adaptations more beautifully revealed than in mangrove forests of the Sun Coast Keys on the Gulf Coast. The same conditions that make this area ideal for mangroves—shallow, calm water with numerous islands—also make it ideal for kayak exploration. Difficulty: Easy paddle on calm, open water. Suwannee River Wilderness Trail *

Paddle one of the most scenic sections of the Suwannee River and learn about plants and animals as well as highlights from nearly 12,000 years of human history. The trip is led by author Lars Andersen, (Paddlers Guide to the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, published March 2009). Trip duration: 3 - 3.5 hours. Difficulty: This easy, 8-mile paddle goes downstream on a gentle current. Skill level: Good for beginners and pros alike. Basic instructions will be given for beginners. Sports You Got Served! Tennis 101

You Got Served! Tennis, Part Deux

Intermediate tennis is perfect for someone who already plays tennis but would like to move to the next level. You already work hard. It’s time to Achieve! Every graduate from our local public high schools can go to college! College opens the door to new opportunities. Starting with the class of 2022, the Santa Fe College Achieve program will support every student in our district who wants to go to college. SF Achieve provides students with access to mentorship opportunities that prepare them for college, and scholarships that help cover tuition and books. Our community will, in turn, have a strong workforce built upon the legacy of our local families.

Mentorships Every local public high school has an SF Achieve specialist offering college coaching to students and their families. That support will continue when students enroll at SF.

Scholarships All SF Achieve Scholars get free college textbooks. Eligible students will receive the SF Achieve scholarship, which kicks in where financial aid leaves off, covering tuition for up to 60 credits.

Partnerships A generous gift from the MacKenzie Scott Foundation helped launch SF Achieve, but the future of the program is in our hands. Now is the time for families, educators, community members and future employers to get involved!
