For over 20 years, Santa Fe College’s Community Education has brought College for Kids programs to our community. For the last two years, we held modified classes due to Covid-19. This year, we are back on site with a few adjustments. We are offering three weeks of camp running Monday thru Friday with full and half day options. Students will select 1 to 2 camps per week. Parents will drop off and pick up their child in the classroom. Please check the Santa Fe College website for information on COVID-19 Safety Protocols (sfcollege.edu). Counselor In Training (CIT) Counselor In Training (CIT) is a work-oriented, leadership program which gives teens an opportunity to assist College For Kids instructors during the CFK summer camp. CITs must be available to attend mandatory training from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. on June 8. CITs receive leadership training and earn 105 service hours. Eligibility requirements: Potential CITs will be between the ages of 15-18 and/or rising 10th-12th grade students. Tuition: $120 three week camp | Applications are due by May 13. Scholarships may be available. Art, Crafts and Hobbies Beginner’s Soap Making

Learn to make handcrafted cold process soap. The class will include instructions for making soaps with goat’s milk, coconut milk, honey, and beeswax. Working with synthetic and natural colors will also be demonstrated. The Glass Factory —

The course and materials fees are for two students. Forged/Welded: Sandhill Crane

Dive into the world of metal with this multiprocess class. Day one entails a visit to Leslie Tharp’s blacksmithing shop for a crash course into forging fundamentals. Learn to hammer hot steel on an anvil while texturing and forming the parts needed to create your sculptural Sandhill Crane. On day two, we meet at Santa Fe’s welding shop to attach our forged pieces and create the finished crane. During our time at Santa Fe, we’ll work on using MIG welding techniques. This style of welding is accessible and useful for both hobbyists and professionals, and is designed to introduce beginners into the multiprocess world of metalwork. No previous experience required, instructor will send map before class. This class is designed to provide you an overview of the applications available to Android smartphone users, showing you the most important settings and methods needed to really become an Android pro and get the most out of your device. Sports Beginner’s Disc Golf

This class will teach you the fundamentals of throwing a disc a distance and on target while also learning how to putt accurately. Disc golf is played on a course like traditional golf, but it uses the natural environment, and the targets are positioned between, within, or around trees to increase the challenge. Instead of clubs, you use different specially designed frisbees and plastics. There’s no hole in the ground; the target is a metal basket with chains that slow down the disc. Preparing for a Zoom Meeting Days Before · Remember to download and install the Zoom launcher (PC/Mac) or the app (iOS/Android) in advance, as it can take several minutes to complete. · Review Zoom instructions via the external Zoom link found in Canvas. More information can also be found at Zoom’s Getting Started page. · Join a Zoom Test Meeting to confirm your computer or device’s capabilities.

15 Minutes Before · Find a quiet space with strong WiFi that is free of distractions. · Open Zoom via the downloaded program, app or Canvas. · Test your headphones, microphone and camera to make sure the class can hear and see you (and vice versa). · Close any windows or programs open on your device that are unrelated to your meeting. This focuses your device’s power to provide the best Zoom meeting experience possible, and prevents potential embarrassing moments if you happen to share your screen. Do you really want your instructor to know how many cat videos you actually watch?

During the Zoom Meeting · Click Start Video to begin broadcasting from your webcam. · Click the Chat bubble to ask questions via text, share links to websites, and keep up with the class’s back-channel discussion. You can chat to everyone in the meeting, just the instructor, or a specific person. · Find out who else is in the meeting by clicking Participants. This is also where you can “raise your hand” to ask a question, answer a question, or start an intense philosophical debate. What you do with this power is up to you. · Be prepared to share your screen with the class. They can see the tabs you have open. · At the end of the class, click Leave Meeting.
