Waves
by John Lamb

Waves crashed against the shore.
Lightning flashed across the sky.
Wind blew strong
through the trees
as we sat by the lake's shore.
We talked of joy and love,
pain and loss.
We dropped our masks.
Unafraid, our true selves to show.
But too soon
came time for leaving.
We replaced our masks,
so others would not see
and went home.
But I still hear the waves
and feel the wind on my face.
