The end result? Walk away with movement skills and strategies that will enable you to perform daily tasks with more comfort, ease, fluidity and... no more pain in the neck! Is Nuclear War Inevitable?

Are you ready to increase your energy and transform your health with a nutrient-packed meal plan? President Trump’s Foreign Policy

In the 1950s and 60s theorists like Bernard Brodie and Herman Kahn debated what a nuclear war would be like. Kahn’s book, On Thermonuclear War, argued that all out nuclear war was not the only possibility and that an outcome of “only” 50 million dead was possible and “better” than 100 million dead. With the Pentagon planning new types of “small” nukes, it is time to consider what may result. Recommended text: The Doomsday Machine, by Daniel Ellsberg (available from Amazon in paperback after Dec. 8, 2018). Instructor Jack Segal represented the State Department in nuclear arms control negotiations with the USSR from the mid-1980s through the 90s.

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT Dan Carlson

Carlson Photography is owned by Dan and his wife, Mary. See his classes on this page.

NMC: How did your photography journey begin? I have always loved photography and like many people, it started as a hobby. It’s always been about finding others who knew more than me and learning what they had to teach me.

NMC: What inspires you to take portraits? One of the most exciting things about taking images of people is capturing truly unique moments that may only last for a second. Without capturing those moments in still images, you may not even realize they are happening. It can be a unique laugh between a couple, thrill on a child’s face running on the beach or a great, natural smile from a graduating senior struggling not to feel awkward. NMC: What have you discovered through photography? I have come to just appreciate people. Watching families with kids, graduating students, couples starting a life in marraige – I believe the best way to capture those moments and more importantly, remember those moments, is through still imagery. We live at a time where it is too easy to take images – with cameras, phones or even watches – and we take so many that we don’t go back and look at the images – this causes us to forget those special times. Helping people capture high-quality images of the most important times of their lives is such a priviledge. 34 |

No More Pain in the Neck!

Support Group for Mental Illness

Self Defense for Women

Every day we perform a myriad of tasks that put stress and strain on the muscles of our neck, shoulders and upper back: sitting at a computer, driving a car, talking on the phone -- even reading in bed! The culprit is not the task itself, but rather the way in which we perform it, using poor posture and faulty movement habits. Learn movement skills and strategies that will enable you to perform daily tasks with more comfort, ease, fluidity and... no more pain in the neck! See page 21 for details.

You are not alone on this journey. Join a compassionate group of friends and find immediate support in caring for a loved one with mental illness. Share and listen to each other in a safe and confidential space in this FREE, peerled group for family members of individuals living with mental illness. See page 22 for details.

“The best defense is a good offense.” Good outcomes happen because we do what we must to prepare ahead of time. Your personal defense is no different. Knowing how you will handle a situation before it occurs, and being able to handle it with confidence, puts you far ahead of the curve. Come learn about self-awareness and awareness of your surroundings, and practice hands-on self-defense techniques. Use the weeks between each class session to review, practice and lock in your skills, because practice matters. Wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes and discover the strength you have inside! 3 Sat., March 2-16 9 a.m.-Noon Phys. Ed. Bldg. Gym Instructor: Tania Arens

Happily Ever After Means Communication Great communication is the basis of any fulfilling relationship. But most of us will choose someone who communicates differently than we do. Those who need to verbally process often choose those who need to get away and think about it. In the end, it is often not the issue at hand that causes stress in a relationship, but the manner in which each partner communicates. Knowing how to communicate with this person who is put together differently than you is essential for a happy relationship. This FUN, small investment will take your relationship to the next level. ALL adult couples of all ages welcome. Register one individual from each couple so you pay the fee only once (price is $129 per couple).
