Dear Learners,

As the warm breeze of summer brings promise of adventure and growth, we’re thrilled to announce a season of unprecedented learning experiences at NMC Extended Education & Training.

You may have noticed — We are not your everyday community education program.

We are unique travel trips across the world (Italy 2023, Iceland 2024, Greece 2024); Date Nights that include culinary delights, wine pairing & tasting, and social partner dancing; hands-on and outdoor fun College for Kids learning experiences that encompass everything from discovering dinosaurs to flying airplanes; Learn Together classes for parents & children, friends, or partners; and custom training solutions & retreats for your team in anything from leadership to software training to manufacturing technology.

Most importantly, we are a real live social (not social media) platform for you, your family, friends, and colleagues to connect and grow closer together.

As the world seems to move faster and with more frenzy, NMC Extended Education & Training is a place where you can slow down & learn. Take it all in. Choose your own adventure.

Are you going to paint Michigan beaches and the evening glow of the setting sun (p28)? Or will you grab your bike and ride around the Boardman Trail, hearing historical tales from local historian, Jerry Sura (p41)? Might you cook your way into “saucing it up” in the kitchen (p34) or sip with a date to find out why rosés aren’t red (p35)? Do you seek wild Michigan orchids (p44), or would you rather embark on a boat ride and learn about the shoreline of Glen Lake (p45)? There are dozens of experiences in these pages, what will you choose?

Here’s to a summer filled with togetherness: discovery, delight, and quality time with your favorite humans!

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT ARCHIPELAGO PROJECT

Dan Trahey found his musical passion in Traverse City’s public school music program and summers at Interlochen. Since then, he cofounded the Archipelago Project, a musical ensemble which values reciprocative learning by students and teachers.

Archipelago’s students have included a 5-year-old in Baltimore and a 30-year-old in Uganda, reflecting the program’s inclusivity and global influence. Trahey advocates for collaborative musicmaking, drawing from his own longtime partnership with co-founder Garrett Mendez. “Some of the best music making is with your friends,” Trahey says. “Garrett and I started making music together 35 years ago and haven’t stopped since.”
