The old town
La rue obscure (XIV s.) : Située le long du rempart, elle est longue de 130 mètres et constituait une sorte de chemin défensif. Elle permettait la circulation des militaires et facilitait leurs manœuvres. Elle fut couverte entre le XVIème et le XVIIIème siècle dans le but d’agrandir les maisons rue du Poilu, d’où son architecture disparate.
Rue Obscure (14th century): Situated along the line of the ramparts, it is 130 meters in long and constitutes a sort of defensive passageway. It allowed for military movements and facilitated their manoeuvres. It fell victim to “uncontrolled urbanisation” from the 16th century, and as a result, was entirely covered over.
L’église St Michel : Église de style baroque (XVIIIème s.) qui renferme un Christ gisant, œuvre anonyme sculptée par un galérien. Vous pouvez également y admirer les orgues des Frères Grinda (1790), classés monument historique.
St Michel’s Church: Church in the baroque style (18th century) which contains a recumbent Christ, anonymous work sculpted by a galley slave. You can also admire the Grinda brothers’ church-organs (1790), classified as a historic monument.

La Citadelle
Imposante forteresse construite en 1557 sur ordre d’Emmanuel Philibert de Savoie pour défendre la ville ; elle fut restaurée et abrite depuis 1981 l’hôtel de ville, un centre de congrès, un auditorium, une roseraie, des jardins, un théâtre de Verdure, des musées (Libre accès) et La Chapelle Saint-Elme où sont exposés régulièrement différents artistes. La Chapelle St-Pierre décorée par Jean Cocteau : Chapelle de st yle roman, propriété des pêcheurs locaux , décorée par J. COCTEAU sur sa demande de 1956 à 1957. La chapelle porte le nom de St-Pierre patron des pêcheurs et 3 panneaux extraits de la vie de St-Pierre y sont représentés. 04 93 76 90 70 • chapelle.cocteau@gmail.com Ouverture de La chapelle : 9h30 - 12h30 / 14h00 - 18h00 Fermée le lundi, le mardi et le 25 décembre. The Citadel
Imposing fortress built in 1557 on the orders of Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy to defend the town; it was restored in 1981 and, since then, houses the Town Hall, a conference centre, an auditorium, a rose garden, gardens, an open air theater, museums (Free access) and The Saint-Elme chapel where various artists are regularly exhibited. (not to be missed). The museums are currently closed for renovation work. The Citadel and the Saint-Elme chapel are open

Construit au milieu du XVIème siècle en même temps que la citadelle, il faudra attendre le XVIIIème siècle et son accession au statut de Port Royal pour que commencent les grands travaux tels que le phare, la corderie, le bassin de radoub…
