Apple, Domino’s, the NBA. You know the brands. Are you ready to know the people behind them?

The Netflix Co-Founder and dozens of world leaders mentor HPU students.

At no other university are students mentored by the founders, CEOs and leaders behind their favorite brands. High Point University’s Access to Innovators program brings industry leaders and game changers to the HPU campus to work one-on-one with students.

When students hear from and work alongside these leaders, they begin to unlock their own potential.

Pictured above is Ivana Korankyi. Her story is one of many that highlights the impact of having access to these game-changing leaders. Korankyi is an HPU pharmacy student who’s had the chance to not only speak with Netflix Co-Founder Marc Randolph about her business idea, but also pitch the entrepreneurial leader her product on multiple occasions. Randolph serves as HPU’s Entrepreneur in Residence, and his feedback has helped Korankyi push her “Flasky Labware” invention, a specialized tool that collects the medication researchers and drug companies are usually unable to reach on the interior walls of a round-bottom flask, from idea to reality.

“I am beyond thankful for his time,” says Korankyi. “Marc has offered insightful perspective, and it’s amazing to tap into a resource that is so knowledgeable and so exposed to the real world. I ask him questions, and he asks me questions back that challenge me to learn more about my business by taking new approaches.”

Randolph is just one of HPU’s in-resident faculty making a tangible impact on students. You can find the full lineup inside!

And, HPU’s Access to Innovators program is just one of HPU’s unique and distinguishable advantages. Inside these pages, explore the experiential learning, stellar academics, school spirit and fun that await you at HPU.

“The main forces that drove me to HPU were the intangibles that other schools could not offer such as the Office of Career and Professional Development, opportunities with industry professionals offered through the Access to Innovators Program, the Office for Student Success and the countless connections available with extraordinary faculty, staff and leaders.”

– Josh Topper, ʼ23, Audit & Assurance Assistant at Deloitte

Premier Life Skills Experiences

HPU’s campus offers opportunities and state-of-the-art laboratories where students develop the life skills that will benefit them throughout their careers. While there are too many to list here, below is a glimpse of how HPU relentlessly pursues opportunities to arm students with practical experiences.

1924 PRIME and Alo

HPU’s fine-dining learning labs allow students to practice etiquette and communication skills during dinner for four years at HPU. When an employer takes you to a job interview or you meet a client for dinner, you’ll be ready.

Get Involved Immediately: Hands-On Experience

HPU’s Nido R. Qubein School of Communication steers students toward the steps that have led many graduates to achieve success and their goals. The opportunities are endless to get involved in and out of the classroom. You could be the host of a podcast, broadcast a news show, act as an announcer at sporting events, design a video game, influence through social media and so much more.

Ries Allyn, ’23, was heavily involved in student news shows since her freshman year, allowing her to develop skills across the broadcast journalism field through hands-on learning in the areas she was passionate about. Getting involved right away equipped Allyn with experiences that helped her land a seven-month internship with ABC News in New York City as a news gathering operations intern her senior year.

The Jana and Ken Kahn Hotel

This boutique hotel is nestled within the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center on the campus of High Point University. HPU students in event management, hospitality, sport management, media production and other majors gain hands-on experiences working in a variety of positions in this $170 million experiential learning super structure.

“HPU really does have so many opportunities — you just have to be the student to take advantage of them. I appreciate the School of Communication’s emphasis on learning all aspects. Even if you want to be on-air, you still need to learn behind-the-scenes, crew positions, producing, etc.”

HPU’S TUITION-FREE MASTER’S DEGREE: CAN’T-MISS OPPORTUNITY

Explore more experiential learning opportunities and see HPU students in action!

At High Point University, there are many distinctive opportunities you won’t find on other campuses, including the tuition-free master’s degree. When you complete your undergraduate degree at HPU, you’ll be eligible to enroll in an HPU Tuition-Free Master’s Degree. That’s right – it’s tuition free. If you apply to High Point University as an Early Decision student, you’ll unlock access to your choice of 10 different master’s programs. For those who do not apply Early Decision, a Tuition-Free Master’s Degree in HPU’s coveted Communication and Business Leadership program is still available to all incoming freshmen.

Earning your graduate degree immediately after you complete your undergraduate degree, rather than delaying and jeopardizing the possibility, maximizes the amount of time you’ll have to achieve success in your career.

And, let it be known that 100% of HPU’s advanced degree holders are employed within 180 days of graduating.

What other university will offer you a tuition-free master’s degree after you complete your four-year degree?

Never Miss an Opportunity to Network

HPU’s airplane fuselage is located in Cottrell Hall. It offers the profile of a plane’s interior, complete with power outlets for laptops, overhead storage, reclining seats and inspirational quotes that scroll through the windows of the plane. This space allows students to practice their quick-pitch and acts as a reminder to always be ready for new opportunities.

“The tuition-free master’s in communication and business leadership at High Point University has equipped me with arguably the two most critical skills in the workplace: strong communication skills and an actionable understanding of transformational leadership.”

Students Spend Summer Fighting Cancer, Researching Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria + More.

Summertime on HPU’s campus doesn’t just bring sunny days. It also brings a time for collaborating on innovative summer research. Students representing all academic schools are paired with professors who guide them through projects in a variety of fields. From learning new technology to working as a team, students tackled cancer research, utilized virtual reality, studied treatments for brain cells after injury, tested diabetes treatments and so much more.

Pictured here, master’s student Tori Federico (left) works in a lab with Dr. Heather Miller (right), associate professor of biochemistry, on a project to overcome antibiotic resistant bacteria. Miller worked with three students in support of the nearly $440,000 National Institutes of Health Grant she received last year, enabling her to continue her research for three years.

“Our team is studying drugs we can use to make existing antibiotics work again,” said Miller. “We’re trying to eventually create some clinically relevant molecules that could be used to treat MRSA infections because we know that antibiotic resistance is such a big problem. We’ve already discovered some molecules that are effective.”

Charlie Freeman, HPU’s Sports Business Executive in Residence, Advises Students on Building Career Connections

Charlie Freeman, president of business operations for the Orlando Magic, returned to campus to mentor students. During his time on campus, Freeman spoke to sport management students about creating culture in the workplace, led a Q&A with exercise majors, shared lunch with HPU Business Fellows and advised students during a Premier Life Skills Seminar.

He stressed the need for sales and public speaking skills, and emphasized effective research before networking via job fairs, conferences and events.

Values-Based Living and Learning

At HPU, students live and learn in an environment that reinforces their personal values and surrounds them with mentors who model service, joy, generosity, gratitude and respect. HPU’s educational model results not only in student success but also significance. Our teaching philosophy prepares not only their minds but also their hearts and souls. An HPU education sets graduates apart. Here are a few examples:

WHY PARENTS APPRECIATE HPU’S VALUES

“The importance and value that is placed on God, Family and Country (in that order) is truly what propels HPU to the top in colleges and universities. Those values reinforce the decisions that have made HPU so unique among schools. Our daughter has had the best college experience and matured personally and professionally beyond what we could have imagined. HPU has equipped her with the best tools, resources and experiences to succeed. We have only wanted to give our children the best foundation in life, and we truly feel that HPU has partnered with us in that endeavor.”

-Tina Marsh, HPU Parent of Bailey, ’25

“As someone who knows the Higher Education world well, I honestly tell other families that no other college or university shares and instills their values as clearly as HPU. If a “God, Family, Country” university is what your child is looking for, this is it.”

-Kerry Tornesello, HPU Parent of Ben, ’23

Heartfelt Hugs Go Viral

From Move-In Day to Commencement, HPU Security Officer Valerie Baxter, better known as “Ms. Val,” is there for students. She’s one of the first smiling faces students meet, and she is a constant presence throughout their time on campus, cheering them on or giving one of her signature hugs when they need support.

Recently, Ms. Val’s caring spirit was recognized not only by the HPU students who adore her, but by the nation when a viral video of her HPU graduation hugs took her all the way to the “TODAY” show, national nightly news outlets and beyond.

HPU Family Contributes

Nearly 2,000 Hours in Community Service on MLK Jr. Day

High Point University students gave back to the city of High Point through several service projects for HPU’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. In total, the HPU family dedicated nearly 2,000 hours in service to the community for “A Day On, Not a Day Off.” Students served the community through nearly 20 projects to revitalize local organizations, clean areas in the city of High Point, pack thousands of seeds for the community, pack care kits for veterans and more.

HPU Sorority Raises Funds for Family Service of the Piedmont

HPU’s Kappa Delta Sorority hosted their 10th annual Shamrock Superhero Dash to support services for victims of child abuse. Participants were encouraged to dress up in superhero attire to run the course that veered throughout HPU’s campus. Members of Kappa Delta sorority were scattered across the course, cheering on participants. In total, the sorority raised nearly $2,000 for the Guild of Family Service of the Piedmont.

“Dr. Qubein will tell you that HPU is a God, Family and Country school. HPU treats students like adults, models important behaviors for them and gives students an incredible opportunity to grow. And no matter how many differences all our children have, they all share those same values that are at the core of HPU.”

-David Amigo, HPU Parent of Joshua, ’22, Zach, ’24, and Cooper, ’25

“When you bring your child to college, you’re taking the training wheels off, and you have to hope and pray that what you have done as far as instilling your values and what you think is important, right and wrong, sticks. When we brought Jodi to HPU, it was evident that this place is very different. The church is right on campus. Look at the sculptures on the promenade, the prominent figures like Harriett Tubman and Rosa Parks. That environment opens a curiosity that leads them down the correct path.”

-John Guglielmi, HPU Parent of Jodi, ’15
