LIFELONG MEMORIES

You’ll Make

A Quick Glimpse at the

Parents and students love High Point University because of the amazing outcomes and academic excellence. But make no mistake, HPU is a fun place to be. As it should be. There are 168 hours in a week. Students are in class for approximately 20 of those. HPU has long understood that the college experience should be more than just time spent in a classroom. It’s a time for students to find their home away from home, discover lifelong friends, uncover or grow their passions and hobbies, and make memories that will last a lifetime. It’s a time to learn balance.

This publication gives a focused glimpse at life on the HPU campus!

Four Years is a Long Time to Not Love Where You Live

Luckily, at HPU, that’s no issue. With the nation’s top-ranked dorms on a campus recognized in the “Most Beautiful” list by The Princeton Review, feeling at home is a breeze.

Not Your Mother’s Dorms

College life begins with the residence hall. Picture this. You’re a university freshman pulling up to your first college dorm. You’re leaving your home, friends and family for the first time. You aren’t just carrying plastic bins and suitcases. You’re carrying loads of nervous energy, too. The last thing you want is to be greeted by an old dorm room that adds to that stress.

At HPU, we understand a student’s living space should reflect the incredible educational journey on which they’re embarking. Not only are HPU upperclassmen, staff and faculty on hand to unload ALL belongings for each freshman as they arrive on that first day, but students are also greeted with dorms designed to help them relax and show off their unique style.

Environment that Inspires

High Point University knows that students rise to the level of their environment. That’s why HPU has intentionally designed every corner of campus to foster student success.

The outcome? A campus ranked as one of the most beautiful in the nation. Whether it’s bright study spaces, one of HPU’s 30 beautifully curated gardens, the inspiring quotes etched in the walkways connecting academic buildings or the sculptures of history’s greatest leaders, like Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks and Albert Einstein that line the Kester International Promenade, students are reminded daily that they, too, can achieve great things.

Foodies Welcome

Eat to live? Or live to eat? At HPU, why not both? If students can dream it and want to eat it, HPU can provide it. With dining ranked No. 1 in the nation, HPU offers 20+ different dining options. Whether it’s a classic meal at the Café or a Mediterranean experience at the beautiful Butterfly Café, the diverse dining options are endless.

HPU also believes that good nutrition is essential to good health. That’s why the university is committed to nourishing every student by providing healthy, locally sourced food daily with options for vegan and vegetarian students, and a variety of allergen-friendly options to ensure everyone is eating safely and well.

HPU’s Fine-Dining Learning Labs

HPU provides students with four years of career preparation inside two different fine-dining restaurants — 1924 PRIME, HPU’s flagship fine-dining learning lab, and Alo, HPU’s newest boutique hotel restaurant. These eateries provide a space where students practice their interview skills, gain familiarity with international cuisine and culture, and develop confidence in a restaurant setting thanks to the help of wait staff who correct and encourage proper dining etiquette.

Here’s a scenario: you’re a recent college graduate who’s accepted your first job offer. Your boss asks you to take an international client to dinner. Are you ready? When HPU graduates enter the workforce, they know how to ace the interview in various business settings.

Did we mention that the 1924 PRIME and Alo fine-dining venues are included in each students’ meal plan? Bon Appétit!

The Home of Panther Pride

For an HPU Panther, there’s nothing quite like walking into the sea of purple that fills HPU’s new Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena ahead of a men’s or women’s basketball game. Students pack the HPU Student Suite for the best view in the house. The band plays, the lights dim and Prowler the HPU Panther struts to center court raising an HPU flag to the beat of purple drums. HPU athletes storm the court. The energy is contagious. The memories made are priceless. And the space, the arena that seats 4,500 under a wood paneled ceiling that reminds many of Madison Square Garden, is now the hardwood home of Panther pride on campus. The scoreboard is the second largest in North Carolina, and the architects who designed the HPU arena created the home court for the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

Still, it’s bigger than basketball. The mammoth complex, comprised of the arena, an adjoining conference center and the Jana and Ken Kahn Hotel, provides academic programs in event management, sport management, hospitality management and other majors with real-world learning labs. Concerts featuring bands such as Train are produced by HPU students who oversee camera operations for the Jumbotron. Yes, students show up at night to cheer on their Panthers. But more than that, they’ve made the arena, conference center and hotel their home.

Other universities tend to offer dorm spaces, study spaces and a cafeteria or two. Students are then forced to venture off campus to find their fun. Not at HPU.

Without ever setting foot off campus, students take part in farm-to-fork dinners beneath a breezeway that connects the Butterfly Café to the Caine Conservatory. There are weekly food truck meetups with complimentary food, live music and plenty of room to spread out and socialize. Students pack the lawn of Roberts Hall for fall and spring concerts bringing big names like Calvin Harris, DNCE, J. Cole, Lee Brice, T-Pain and Hunter Hayes to name a few.

Engaged and Energetic Campus

Watch these images come to life in this video!

When cooler weather sets in, the HPU Ice Skating Rink becomes the hottest spot at the heart of campus. Then, there are the igloos — domes that transform popular outdoor seating areas throughout campus — and the fire pits, the largest found at the center of an island connected by a bridge to HPU’s Slane Student Center. And each winter, the Campus Activities Team hosts a Winter Wonderland evening complete with life-size snow globes, horse and carriage rides, and winter games.

Why invest in creating a campus like this?

Because HPU knows that when students have a space to safely unwind, they perform better academically, in their internships, in giving back and the list goes on.

Red Carpet Connections

The co-founders of Apple and Netflix, an NBA CEO, a famed actor and an Emmy Award-winning television journalist walk onto campus. No — this isn’t the start to a joke. It’s a reality at High Point University!

Imagine working one-on-one with and learning from the people who have pushed their careers the furthest, overcome obstacles and been hired by the best. When students meet innovators like Steve Wozniak, HPU’s Innovator in Residence and Apple co-founder, they learn that they, too, can achieve big dreams. They also make invaluable industry connections that accelerate their career plans.

For some, that means launching a product with the help of Netflix Co-Founder Marc Randolph, HPU’s Entrepreneur in Residence. For others, it means landing a summer internship at ABC News thanks to insights from ABC’s “Nightline” CoAnchor Byron Pitts.

Only at HPU are students given access to these change agents. Only at HPU can students gain this type of premier life skills experience.
