International Tailgate Competition Photos by PicsofYou.com

Grimes and Community Volunteers Partner to Win First Tailgate Award Noted as Ocala’s number one spectator event, Live Oak International added yet another aspect to the weekend, adding even more to the social experience. Sponsored by Ocala Magazine, the inaugural Tailgate Competition presented tailgaters an opportunity show what southern hospitality is made of. The winner was Karen Grimes, who utilized volunteers from On Top of the World to give her tailgate a friendly, hospitality feel. The competition was judged on theme, décor, special food and drink recipes. The tailgates were judged by a panel of local personalities. Grimes’ winning tailgate received a prize and more importantly bragging rights. Photo right – Grimes accepts her award from Patti Moring from the College of Central Florida Culinary Department.

Equine Performance Center Open House Photos courtesy of Equine Performance Center

By Tammy A. Gantt Equine Performance Center's Dr. Alberto Rullan and his wife Dr. Katherine (Katie) O' Brien held an open house last week promoting their facility, network of care services and showcased their team and amenities at the facility located on U.S. 27 in Ocala. Equine professionals, neighbors from surrounding farms, the community, business leaders and city officials turned out for the open house which included a meal served by the recently opened Bojangles restaurant. Mayor Kent Guinn was in attendance as well. The evening included live music and photo opportunities with the team. Also, on hand was a Balance Rider machine signed by equine performers including Chester Weber, Beezie Madden and Pat Parelli. The machine designed to strengthen core and balance for elite riders (or riders of all levels) will be raffled off for charity at a later date via the Ocala/Marion County Chamber and Economic Partnership. The EPC features the most advanced conditioning and rehabilation equipment available in the world today including an Equine Hyperbaric Chamber, an Aqua Pacer water treadmill, Cold Saltwater Leg Spa for all types of leg therapy, an equine swimming pool, an outdoor and undercover Eurociser with therapeutic tracking surface, solariums, and a temperature-controlled veterinary inspection area with semi-surgical lighting. The EPC also offers mobile therapy, equine massage, chiropractic, dental, Pegasus Therapy laser, MagnaWave/P3 Electromagnetic Pulse Therapy, PRO Orthopedic Devices, DAC vitamins & minerals, and therapeutic farrier services as well as many other cuttingedge treatment options.

Each year competitors’ and invited guests are treated to one of the social events of the year. This year's legendary competitor's party was a St. Patrick’s theme, raising the bar yet again for the weekend. Guests decked out in green, many with shamrocks, enjoyed an evening of food, drink and friendship along with performances including an Irish step dancing performance. Chester Weber serves as ringmaster for the party and for the largest combined driving and show jumping event in the United States.
