The Wizard of Oz theme was inspired by one of our Real Weddings. It is a 1939 American musical fantasy widely considered to be one of the greatest films in cinema. When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy played by movie actress Judy Garland and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and in route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. Read how this couple, who loves this classic movie, incorporated the style into their wedding day. Get inspired from our other Real Wedding couples who share their special moments with you. When it comes to wedding colors, there’s purple, and then there’s purple—or should we say Ultra Violet, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2018. As a vibrant departure from Greenery (2017’s fresh and organic Color of the Year), Ultra Violet is a deep, blue-based purple—darker than lavender, cooler than plum, but brighter than eggplant—with cosmic undertones to evoke “originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” So how exactly do you incorporate this striking, regal shade of violet into your wedding day? You could think big, bold and monochromatic—or, if you can’t quite commit, sprinkle hints of Ultra Violet throughout your day to add depth and energy to anything from cake embellishments to flower girl dresses. Here are some of our favorite ways to dress up Ultra Violet for your wedding.
Decorate your wedding cake with violet blooms, or go for a whole cool violet ruffle layer with fresh lavender. Make violet drinks your signature ones, add mint and a sparkle to the glass, and a very eye-catchy cocktail is done!

One of the easiest ideas to incorporate ultra violet into your wedding decor while keeping it edgy and tasteful is rocking violet florals. You can add them to your bouquets, centerpieces, floral crowns and other items, and violet is rather a compatible color that goes well with many other shades. You can rock it separately, for example, a violet tulip bouquet, or blend them with neutral blooms to make your centerpieces more eye-catching.

Are you getting ready to put your house on the MARket? As we are all aware – the buyers are in charge right now! Plenty of inventory, plus the ease of on-line research, equals educated buyers. Thus, in a competitive real estate MARket, buyers are making quick decisions based upon immediate visual cues. You have lived in your home for years, and are accustomed to seeing your décor and color scheme. However, what is “just my house” to you, could have an instant negative impact, making your home look dated. Uh-oh. This is where I come in! Here are the top 5 things to update before listing your home – and you can update these pretty instantly, too. Draperies and curtains. Traditional fabric window treatments usually reflect a toopersonal choice of materials. When they are needed for privacy, opt for roman shades or custom blinds. If you don’t need privacy, don’t be afraid to dare to go bare – most buyers like natural light and bright, airy rooms. It will cost almost nothing to take them down – even if you have to patch a few holes. Gold fixtures and hardware. Fortunately, decorative hardware is an easy switch-out and can quickly make the house more relevant to today’s buyers.
Silver, polished nickel and brass are currently desirable. Because they’re all highly visible, you will need to change them all. Yes, this can take time, but it is a DIY project! You don’t need to hire a pro to do the job well. Colored appliances. Any kitchen can get a fast facelift with stainless appliances; the current signal of a “modern” kitchen. The key is to be consistent! You can’t just swap out one, you have to do them all. While more of an investment, this update is definitely worth the return. Ceiling fans. Ceiling fans imply the house is not comfortable in the summer! They look dated for the simple reason they were more popular when AC was not common in homes. There are new, modern ceiling fans, in sleek materials and minimalistic designs, but if you have those tropical island fans…make the switch! Palms are a dead giveaway your home is dated. If you need to save money, don’t reinstall new fans. It is much better to have no ceiling fan than a dated one. Oak/Cherry kitchen cabinets, and countertops of square tile or formica. This was “the look” 20 to 30 years ago – no longer! Modern kitchens tend to favor light or solid colored cabinets and stone surfaces. How can you do quick fix with your cabinets? Paint! It’s the least expensive way to modernize; just don’t forget to change the hardware too. And you can even paint tile to freshen the whole room.

i t doesn’t have to be scary First Dance! After the ceremony and photos are done it is time for your MC to announce you in public as husband and wife, and begin playing the song you chose for your first dance as a married couple. This will be a memory that you will always treasure. We realize that this can be a bit harrowing for some couples, but it doesn’t have to be. All the attention is on you, and perhaps you don’t think of yourself as a good dancer.
You can keep your first dance simple by moving back and forth, but that could get a bit boring. Taking dance lessons as a couple prior to the wedding is a fun thing to do together. Look at it as a date night, treat yourselves with dinner afterwards. It’s a good time to connect between all the wedding day plans. Your lessons don’t have to be swing, or an elaborate choreographed dance. Speak with the instructor and let them know what your preferences are. If you know what song you want played for your first dance bring it with you, so your instructor can set the lesson around it. You don’t have to have a song chosen when you go though, the instructor will teach you basic dance steps that can be used for any song.
Make sure you plan your lessons well in advance of your special day, so you both feel comfortable and confident when all eyes are on you. This is a great lesson for you to begin your lives together. You will be sharing a special moment learning and growing together by putting your best foot forward (no pun intended) to show everyone you will work together as a couple to attain your goals. Once you feel comfortable with your routine, you can also invite your parents to join in for the father/ daughter and mother/son dance at the reception. Another very special moment. All brides and grooms want to look their best on their wedding day. Remember dancing is a form of exercising, and will help you stay fit and reduce your stress level in this busy time. Enjoy!

Directions Mix merlot red wine, Martini Rosso and grappa together in a small saucepan and start to boil slowly. Add orange slices, cloves and cinnamon sticks and continue to boil until it begins to bubble. You can stick the cloves into the piece of orange so you can easily pull them out when mulled wine is ready. Serve the wine hot, or let it cool down for at least 15 minutes until warm; decorate with a fresh slice of orange and cinnamon stick, and add a few pieces of raisins or almonds. Serves four.
Ingredients 1.5 oz. Ketel One Citroen vodka, 1 oz. nigori sake, 1 oz. lavender syrup (recipe below), Zest from 1 lemon, 3 egg whites, Fresh lavender sprig. Lavender Syrup 1 cup filtered water, 1 cup white sugar, 3 tbsp. dried lavender
Directions Combine lemon zest with egg whites and 1/2 oz. lavender syrup in mixing bowl; beat until stiff white peaks are formed. In cocktail shaker, combine Ketel One Citroen, sake and remaining 1/2 oz. lavender syrup; shake with bar ice until mixing glass is frosted. Add 6 heaping tablespoons stiff egg whites, and shake to combine. Pour over ice in large wine glass, spoon remaining egg whites over the top and stir gently to incorporate. Garnish with lavender sprig. Combine ingredients in a saucepan and bring to boil for 3 minutes. Let cool, then strain with micro strainer.

-- Alton Brown What you need: 3 to 3 1/2 pounds butternut squash, approximately 2, seeded and quartered, Unsalted butter, melted, for brushing, 1 tablespoon kosher salt, plus 1 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper, plus 1/2 teaspoon, 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth, 1/4 cup honey, 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg. Heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the quartered squash onto a half sheet pan, brush the flesh of the squash with a little butter and season with 1 tablespoon of the salt and 1 teaspoon of the white pepper. Place in the oven and roast for 30 to 35 minutes or until the flesh is soft and tender. Scoop the flesh from the skin into a 6-quart pot. Add the broth, honey and ginger. Place over medium heat and bring to a simmer, approximately 7 to 8 minutes. Using a stick blender, puree the mixture until smooth*. Stir in the heavy cream and return to a low simmer. Season with the remaining salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
*When blending hot liquids: Remove liquid from the heat and allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. Transfer liquid to a blender or food processor and fill it no more than halfway. If using a blender, release one corner of the lid. This prevents the vacuum effect that creates heat explosions. Place a towel over the top of the machine, pulse a few times then process on high speed until smooth.
Sweet Roasted Acorn Squash
2 acorn squash, sliced in 1/2, seeds removed, 4 tablespoons butter, 4 tablespoons dark brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg, Salt, 2 tablespoons raw cane sugar. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Assemble acorn squash on a baking sheet. Place 1 tablespoon of butter and brown sugar in each half. Add 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg in each and season with salt. Bake until golden and tender, about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, basting flesh of squash several times. Twenty minutes before the squash is done, sprinkle edges with raw sugar. Serve squash warm.

Budget-Friendly How to Host an After Party You know the saying after the party comes the after-party, and this has been holding true for more and more weddings recently. Couples are by no means obligated to host their guests for a wedding after-party but, think about it—who wouldn’t want to prolong one of the biggest days of their lives, surrounded by friends and family? If finances are holding you back or you can’t imagine planning yet another wedding-related event don’t worry. If you’re still skeptical of the after-party trend, know that you don’t have to allocate extensive funds to the cause, or pull out all the decor stops to satisfy your partygoers.
Why Host an After-Party in the First Place? For couples hosting weddings at venues that close on the earlier side, like 11 p.m., the festivities migrate to another locale, especially if the guest list largely includes a younger crowd. It’s another opportunity for you to personalize your day and show your personalities. It’s a wedding it’s the biggest party you’re going to have for yourself. You’re spending a lot of time and consideration. Why not go big and make a night of it?
Where to Host an After-Party It all depends on your wedding reception venue and number of guests, it’s essential to scope out an after-party spot that’s nearby. Wedding attendants will likely appreciate a change of pace and scenery. Pick somewhere within a 20 minute radius. Otherwise, partygoers will start to trickle off. You can even consider moving to a separate area within your reception locale. Size matters, the smaller and more intimate the venue, the better. Dancing is always more fun if you’re in a smaller space.
How to Host a Budget-Friendly After-Party Thankfully, after already wowing guests at the ceremony and reception, the stakes aren’t nearly as high for an after party function. The great thing about an after-party is that it’s later in the evening and you’ve already had a great party and spoiled everyone. There are no more high expectations, so you don’t need to spend a lot of money on decor or food. People just want to have drinks and lots of fun. In terms of the bar, if you alerted guests of the after-party beforehand, the expectation is that you and your spouse will be footing the bill (unless you’re headed to a bar). However, you can get around this in a more budget-friendly manner. Offer to pay for a signature cocktail of sorts and establish a cash bar for the rest. You can also set a time limit that you will pay then leave the rest up to your guests. Late-night food is also be a plus however, this is the least important after party component. What was it that made you decide to become a dress designer? My grandma taught me how to sew and bake when I was young, so I was an early adapter of the creative mindset. I was especially drawn to wedding dresses because unabashedly, I love romance and creating something with deep emotional value. Although the desire to create gorgeous gowns for a living was there, I didn’t always have the confidence in myself or understand the viability of design as a profession. This uncertainty actually led me to originally pursue premed at Cornell, but I was fortunate to be able to overlap my studies with the Textile and Apparel Design major. Ultimately, industry experience and validation were crucial in the development of my craft during my formative years. It certainly did not happen over night, but it is a privilege to have a career where there is such an inspiring and emotional reciprocation. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned so far is that I will forever be a student of design! And with that, I want to create a space that is inventive and inspiring for young designers and artists. When I read the story about your Super Flying Bride I thought it was adorable. Please tell our readers the story behind it. I was really into Disney Princess and comic books growing up and loved coming up with my own story lines. My favorite was a superhero bride who wore her veil as a cape and would fly around town like cupid making people “fall in love and get married”. I even built a little sketch fort inside my mom’s linen closet with a flash light and one of those plastic Lisa Frank lap desks. It was my super sketch zone! I understand you were a gymnast when you were younger, that must have taken a lot of diligence and perseverance. How has it helped you in the career you pursued?

Our practices averaged around six hours a day, which forced me to develop some accountability in getting my school work completed. I feel those timemanagement skills have really helped me maintain focus... especially when my creativity is running amok! As a designer and creative director, it is also necessary to wear different hats and be involved in multiple aspects of the business. But, you can’t spread yourself so thin that you’re not making any real progress in one area. For this reason, I try to prioritize top-line projects that will help elevate the brand and focus on my strengths when things around me are really hectic. I sometimes compare the development of a gown to the development of a gymnastics skill; it requires focus, persistence, and execution. You might make changes/adjustments along the way, but the goal to deliver is always there. And last but not least, I very much value teamwork :)

What valuable lessons did you learn while interning at Elle Magazine? I think the most important lesson I learned was to go beyond what is asked of you. It is necessary to put energy into the skills you want to learn and observe what makes something successful; you can’t just expect everything to come to you in the form of tasks from others. At a young age you were designing your own bridal collection, bridesmaid’s dresses, you had a jewelry rental company and Hayley Paige Red Carpet, a specialty wear that is worn by even the biggest celebs today! What do you see in the future for Hayley Paige? It is such a privilege to be apart of someone’s special day in such a specific and creative way. At the moment, I am very invested in the roles that social media and digital content play in expending our product line and reach. There is this limitless landscape to engage, inspire, and develop, but it’s all about developing in specialized areas that we can truly deliver that bit of “extra”. Most recently, we signed our first official licensing deal with Hearts on Fire and will be releasing a line of engagement rings and wedding bands this Spring! We are also building out a new e-commerce arm on our Holy Matrimoji app! This will mainly be a pop-up shop for extension products and sparkle swag (hologram atheleisure, designer sketches, etc)! Comprehensively, we hope to roll out a larger digital strategy with our wedding emojis that will hopefully make wedding gown shopping process more fun and engaging! Since the launch of Holy Matrimoji, I’ve been fascinated by the tech world and how to optimize your online presence while still maintaining something authentic and humanizing. When I told our staff that we were doing an interview with Hayley Paige they were so excited! They love your show Hayley Ever After on TLC. It is a very interesting show because it draws the viewer into the whole process of dress design beginning with the sketch. Can you share with us what we can expect to see on upcoming shows? You can expect to see more diary-style videos and informative content, with a few sprinklings of my personal life! I want to create content that is relatable, creative, and authentic, but most importantly create a channel that gives our brides/aspiring markets a place to feel inspired.

Your dress collections have been featured on TV shows like Good Morning America, The Today Show and E! News, and also on one of my favorite shows Say Yes to the Dress! What has been the most exciting part of your journey? The most exciting part is the human connection I feel to our bride. It is forever inspiring and something that grounds me as our brand grows. You have designed dresses for celebrities such as Carrie Underwood, Olivia Wilde, Chrissy Teigen, and Aly Raisman among others. What is the difference between designing for a celebrity than designing for a bride? Regardless of who I am designing for, there is always an expectation to fulfill and better yet, surpass. I feel celebrities are met with harsher criticism simply because more eyes are on them when they are wearing a custom piece. The most important thing for me is having a bond with whoever I am designing for. Typically, my favorite people come with a great sense of humor!

What advice would you give to a newcomer in the business who has aspirations of designing their own line? Work hard and be brave! In mastering your craft, try not to just form habits, but actually create intent and feed your purpose… Which part of designing the dress do you find the most challenging?

Understanding that you can’t be everything to everyone! It’s one thing to balance your assortment; it’s another to compromise your aesthetic to please a fleeting trend that might not truly speak to who you are as a designer. And when in doubt, go all out!

In fact, it’s her fresh perspective that really helps her styles stand out. They’re youthful, fun, and romatic but still cool and elevated. This season, Hayley Paige is back with a whole new collection of bridal gowns. Best of all, she just expanded her size offerings, making her garments more accessible.
The “Mackie” wedding dress has a big and bold skirt and tons of crystal artwork. Meanwhile, the “Lyon” gown has a fit-and-flare silhouette, accentuated by allover embroidery. Jennifer and Casey happened to meet while out bar crawling with friends, and it truly was love at first sight. Casey recalls “I spotted Jennifer standing near the bar with her long blond hair in a black dress and black coat. She was gorgeous. Glamorous. Stunning. You name it, she was it.

The couple exchanged vows in front of 150 of their closest friends and family at the Davis Islands Garden Club near downtown Tampa; they say they chose the venue because Jennifer loved the idea of overlooking the water, and Casey had fond memories of visiting his grandmother’s home on the island as a young boy.
Jennifer’s signature color is pink, which paired beautifully with gold accents and lush flora throughout to create a unique and ornate style. For this wedding, it was all about the details. Custom pocket-style invitations left guests in giddy anticipation for the big day. The ceremony aisle was like a fairy tale, featuring archways covered with hundreds of roses, and columns boasting gold candelabras topped with more flora, and suspended crystal chandeliers overhead.

What to Wear to a Rehearsal Dinner Rehearsal dinners are key to starting off the wedding weekend on the right foot. Just ask Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, the movie, or Ross and Emily before Rachel crashed their London nuptials on Friends—and in athleisure, no less. But you won’t be committing any wardrobe violations because you’ll be dressing appropriately for all festivities surrounding the occasion—starting with the rehearsal dinner. But unlike the pre-imposed dress code for the ceremony and reception (black tie, cocktail, etc.), the wardrobe edicts for the rehearsal dinner can be a bit vague. As a guest, first things first: remember, it’s not your day it’s the bride’s. That said, avoid white or anything that risks looking a little too bridal. But not to worry, there are still plenty of chic and festive outfit options for the rehearsal dinner, whether it’s a more formal, sit-down affair, or a laid-back get-together on the beach.

The flower girl basket is lined with blue gingham fabric (Dorothy’s fabric) and of course the bride can follow the yellow brick road flower petals to the altar. The focal point of the altar is a four foot wide scroll adorned with the lyrics of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” written in rainbow pastel calligraphy by Calligraphy Nerd. The use of gray and black on the envelope and invitation cover represent the black and white opening scenes in the film The Wizard of Oz. Once you open the invitation you enter the colorful land of Oz with rainbow pastels.

Get the Look! And whether you’re newly engaged or have hair and makeup trials on the horizon, all the beauty inspiration you need was spotted at Spring 2019’s Bridal Fashion Week. Similar to the wedding dress trends of the season, royals were on the mind when it came to hair. From Theia to Romona Keveza, the hair accessory of choice was the iconic tiara atop regal chignons—and it didn’t stop there. Classic was the name of the (hair) game at Monique Lhuillier and Amsale, while barely-there makeup reigned supreme at Watters and Lela Rose. (We spy some potential hair and makeup inspiration for Meghan Markle’s big day!)
On the other end of the spectrum, it was all about being bold and embracing your inner rock star with statementmaking beauty looks you can’t miss. Case in point: The faux-hawks and metallic makeup at Naeem Khan. 6 Tips for the Bespectacled Bride
Match your eyewear to your wedding day style. If you’re a glam bride, consider frames that have some bling on them. If you’re a vintage bride, and your inspiration is from eras past, consider a vintage style like a cat eye frame. Once you’ve chosen your gown, consider any adjustments you want to make to your eyewear so it’ll match your wedding gown.
Wear your glasses during your makeup trial. Make sure to decide on the glasses you’re going to wear before your makeup trial. Color, shape and style will all influence how your makeup artist will ensure your look is flawless while walking down the aisle.
Don’t forget about your eyebrows. Your glasses frame your face and so do your eyebrows. Getting them shaped ahead of the big day can sharpen your look. There’s plenty of ways to groom your brows from waxing to threading. Ask your makeup artist about what he/she recommends. Schedule these services a few days ahead of your wedding, to minimize any redness that may result.
Choose your lenses wisely. Anti-glare lenses are great for day-to-day activities, but when you’re taking photos you’ll want to avoid the reflection of the sun or a flash stealing attention from your beautiful eyes. If you’re getting new glasses, tell your eye doctor you’re wearing them on your wedding day. They should be able to recommend the best lenses for the big event.
A bridesmaid’s duty. The last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is looking for lost or broken glasses. Having a second pair handy will give you one less worry on such a busy day. To make it even more worry-free, ask one of your bridesmaids to keep them safe for you.
Make room for the groom. If your groom is sporting eyewear for the big day, share these tips with him too. Yes, even the advice about the eyebrows! Coordinating your fashion choices, including your glasses, are a big part of making your big day picture perfect.

Imagine a newlywed couple recently returned from their honeymoon looking through their guest book expecting to see pages and pages of well wishes and marriage tips from loved ones. But the book is mostly empty. How disappointing! A guest book is supposed to be a keepsake to look back on for years to come, so you’ll want to do everything you can to get your family and friends to sign it. Consider these attention-getting tips.
Put the book at the entrance If they see it, they will sign it. Put the guest book on a table in a very obvious place by the entrance to the reception to increase the chances of folks stopping by to sign before heading to their seats. It’ll help to station someone there, too.
Attach a decorative sign It’ll be pretty clear to everyone what to do when they see a large attractive sign that reads “Please sign our guest book!” Or make it playful: “Leave your mark— sign our guest book!”
Make it gorgeous Decorate the setting where the book is stationed on a table with a draped tablecloth and beautiful vase of flowers, family wedding photos in pretty frames, or glitter balloons—anything that will catch someone’s eye.
Station an influencer by the book Your lively teen cousin who knows how to get the party started is the perfect person to encourage arriving guests to sign in instead of walking by, or have your DJ announce it during the reception.
DESTINATION WEDDING CHECKLIST Wedding season is around the corner and for many, thoughts turn to planning. Not just any wedding but an epic, gorgeous and unforgettable destination wedding. Unlike a traditional ‘at home’ wedding, a destination wedding has a few aspects to consider so that the event goes ahead without a hiccup. Melita DeHazes, Marketing Director, North America, for cross border payments provider OFX, has come up with the definitive checklist for brides and grooms looking to plan the ultimate destination wedding.
12 Months Out Set Your Budget: Set your budget so you’ll know how much you can comfortably spend to make your ideal wedding come to life. In doing so, you’ll also be able to figure out what destinations you can afford. After all, some destinations are pricier than others. Once you’ve set the budget, you and your spouse can decide on your top three priorities. Maybe it’s the number of guests, maybe it’s the gown, and maybe it’s the food. The point is that, once you have your priorities in order, it will be easier to keep your budget in line. Research, Research, …and Travel: If you’re planning a destination wedding, you may already have a destination or two in mind. For example, if you met in Montreal, you might be ready to tie the knot there too. Or if you love vacationing together in a tropical location, Hawaii might be on your radar. About a year before your big day, research not only your preferred destination and its wedding venues, but also the local vendors and planners that are available. Start contacting them to get quotes and to figure out if that destination is feasible in terms of your budget.
10 Months Out Book Your Vendors and Officiant: After doing your research into local vendors at the destination of your choice, you can list out their pros and cons and decide which ones you want to book. As well as the cake, flowers, music and catering, you may want to incorporate some traditions native to the locale where you’re tying the knot. At the same time, if you want to incorporate important family traditions from back, it may be more difficult to do so in an exotic island locale. Start your research early, so you know what you can reasonably expect. About 10 months before your wedding, sign contracts with your vendors, such as your photographer, videographer, officiant, and baker.
8 Months Out Send Out Save-the-Dates: Save-the-dates aren’t always necessary, but when you’re planning a destination wedding that will require guests taking time off from work and travel to be a part of your day, it’s best to let them know well in advance. Send out your save-the-dates after you’ve set your wedding date and confirmed the venue. Shop for Your Gown: You may have already started looking at bridal gowns, but now is the time to head to local bridal salons, try on some gowns, and make a final decision. It could take a few weeks to get your gown in, so give yourself some extra time to say yes to the dress.
4-6 Months Out
It’s also a good idea to come up with a specific schedule of activities that your guests can enjoy together once they arrive at the destination. You can even plan to give each guest a goodie bag filled with welcome gifts to show your appreciation to them for traveling to your wedding.

A couple years ago, I had the pleasure of studying abroad in Florence, Italy. It wasn’t long before I absolutely fell in love with the Italian Culture! The diversity in nature, the architecture, the way of life and of course the cuisine! This colorful styled shoot is inspired on my experience in Italy. I chose the color Lavender as it reminds me of the gorgeous Lavender fields in Tuscany. The bouquet included white astible, juliet garden rose, white spray rose, purple freesia, white ranunculus, italian ruscus, purple alstroemeria and lavender of course! The boutonniere was made of succulents and lavender. A historic home museum designed by James Gamble Rogers II with its mission revival architectural style served as the perfect location for this styled shoot. The columns, the bricks, the arches, the colorful windows all brought out the Italian look we were aiming for.
I wanted the dĂŠcor to incorporate both classic and modern details to represent the millennial bride. Italy is known for their delicious wine so we used wine corks for the place cards and a wine barrel for the cake. The aubergine furniture with its luxurious plum fabric and curved legs was a showstopper! The sweetheart table was simple and gorgeous, the colored candles and gold flatware went together beautifully. And the guitar speaks to the musician couples. For the modern touch, we had a beautiful marble cake with lavender and gold details, geode, and a lucite and geometric invitation suite. The 1947 Cadillac light cream colored convertible with its breathtaking wine red interior served as the perfect getaway ride for the couple! And no Italian wedding is complete without gelato so we had to have a gelato cart!

COLOR YOUR WORLD
ASTROLOGICAL COLOR THEMES Have you ever wondered what colors or theme to use for your wedding day? How about looking to your astrological sign to get your answer?
Aries is a fire sign and requires a lot of light! Your venue should be open and bright. Since you are such an energetic sign you should incorporate bright accent pops of color as well, such as yellows and red.
Taurus is an earth sign and completely different from Aries. The Taurus individual loves colors that are more pastel like earth tones. Adding plants into your reception along with the colors of green or brown will make you feel right at home.
Gemini the sign of the twins likes to spice things up with prints. You are a very eclectic person and you can combine vintage with modern styles. Use printed tablecloths or overlays for your reception tables. Or, perhaps the guys could wear printed ties or boutonnieres that are made of fabric, and your bridesmaids could wear a coordinating printed dress.

Leo the sign of the lion is both dramatic and strong. Use bold colors such as burnt orange, purple and royal blue. Add texture by bringing in fabrics like velvet and silk to give that luxurious appeal.
Virgo wants everything perfect, they are well organized individuals. As an earth sign bring in fresh flowers and plants into your space. Your color scheme can have the occasional pop of color, but the primary tones should be set as navy, taupe, white and linen.
Libra the sign of the balance. You love the finer things in life, and by adding a few classic pieces of furniture to your dĂŠcor it will bring you harmony. You should look to colors that are light or medium tones such as linen, taupe, light gray, lavender and vintage pink.
Scorpio the mysterious one, differs in their choices. You can go with an all monochromatic scheme or combine lots of different textures and strong, bright colors. If you decide to add furniture to your dĂŠcor make sure it is of high quality to fit your taste.

In the early 1900s, the customary wedding dress featured an S-shaped corset, which drew in the stomach and pushed out the bosom, an effect emphasized by frills on the bodice. Gigot sleeves were popular — wide, puffy sleeves that tapered to a narrow forearm. While white was still the color of choice for affluent brides, due to Queen Victoria’s trend-setting gown in 1840, other brides opted to wear azure, mauve, or pale pink. High waists, high collars, long trains, long gloves, and veiled hats also were in fashion.

The 1910s introduced a more flowing silhouette for wedding gowns. Dancing also became a popular part of the wedding celebration, with phonographs providing background music as guests danced the tango, turkey trot, and hesitation waltz.
With the Jazz Age entered a new bridal aesthetic: Waist lines and necklines dropped, and a more streamlined silhouette took hold. Gowns featured ornate beading and embroidery, while bouquets were larger than life. Brides favored Juliet headdresses or cloche hats for their veils.

Depression-era wedding dresses often were made from rayon, due to its affordability compared to silk. Because of the economic hardship of this time period, many brides opted to simply wear the nicest dress in their wardrobe (often a floral-patterned calf-length dress) or choose a style that could be dyed after the wedding and worn again. Hats were the headpiece of choice for many brides, rather than traditional veils. Wedding receptions often featured Art Deco influences, with décor often seen in a black and white color palette, faceted mirror glass, crystal chandeliers, and marble surfaces.

Wartime weddings often left little time for preparations. According to a 1942 issue of Vogue, “Weddings nowadays hang not on the bride’s whim, but on the decision of the grooms commanding officer. He names the day when he grants that unexpected furlough... The 1942 schedule may run something like this: engagement announcement on Monday, invitations sent out by telegraph on Wednesday, the last handful of rice and rose petals flung on Saturday.

Gloves were a standard fashion of the ‘50s, with fingerless bridal gloves made of tulle, lace, or satin. Shorter hemlines led to shorter veils and more attention paid to the bride’s shoes.

Gowns in the ‘60s featured high-waisted empire lines, and many brides wore domed pillbox hats with bouffant veils flowing from the hat. Weddings during the Space Age often incorporated metallic embellishments. The prevailing flower of the decade was the daisy, which brides incorporated into their bouquets or as embellishments on their dresses.
1970
fairytale princess Unlike previous decades, the ‘70s isn’t defined by one dominating trend. Gowns in the ‘70s ranged from hippie frocks to fairytale princess gowns, pantsuits to punk-influenced dresses, and a revival of ‘30s and ‘40s silhouettes.

Cathedral trains, lace-edged frills, full-length veils, and oversized bouquets made a comeback during the ‘80s. Flowing sleeves were gathered at the wrist with a deep laceedged frill. The return of formality in weddings also brought back the traditional morning suit. Fourtiered wedding cakes were still standard in the beginning of the ‘80s, but by the end of the decade, cakes had grown to as many as eight tiers.

Fueled by the popularity of weddings in pop culture, the wedding industry expanded massively in the ‘90s. Starting with a remake of Father of the Bride (1991), popular movies centered around weddings included Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), and Runaway Bride (1999). As the ornate wedding gowns of the ‘80s faded, a more minimalistic style gained momentum: a slim sheath dress, exemplified by Carolyn Bessette’s bias-cut shift dress for her 1996 marriage to John F. Kennedy Jr. In the ‘90s, it became increasingly common for couples to throw destination weddings or elope.

With more wedding ceremonies taking place in hotels or country clubs, rather than a house of worship, strapless gowns gained popularity. 2000 was the year of the ‘look at me’ dress. A year when less was more when it came to celebrity choices in evening wear. Famous faces were fighting it out for the front pages with their cleavage/navel/legs/bottom on show. And there were plenty of opportunities to steal the limelight. Jennifer Lopez wore a slither of sheer Versace fabric while Kelly Brook made sequined knickers the latest accessory. These girls were making a statement - all those hours in the gym and eating lettuce leaves were not going to go unnoticed. There was plenty to talk about, but a lot of it was less than positive.
2010

These days, more and more brides are favoring curve-hugging gowns — the mermaid is one of the hottest silhouettes. Pickup skirts first became popular in the mid-2000s. Modern dresses feature asymmetrical, looser pickups. Textured details, intricate beading and crystals, and frothy skirts all reign supreme in modern ballgowns. Bridal Fashion Week 2010 was the chance for top designers to show off their new lines, and our chance to find out what was hot in wedding fashion in 2010. Bridal designers were obsessed with Mad Men: There were enough high necklines, tulle skirts, and tea-length styles on the runway to make even Don Draper swoon! Not just for the goth bride anymore, this dark hue showed up in all kinds of wedding dress details, from dainty bows and sashes to bolder, allover embellishments. Thanks to First Lady Michelle Obama, it seems the one-shoulder style really took off in 2010. The over-the-top details are what really made these asymmetrical necklines stand out. Brides wanted to wear strapless gowns, but did not want to feel overly bare? In 2010 they could take their pick from floor-length lace coats, airy tulle boleros, feathered capelets, and more.

I have nothing to wear! As a lifelong lover of fashion, this is something I never thought I would say. Modeling and designing taught me plenty of tricks: buy favorite pieces in multiple colors, a defined waistline gives any look an instant boost, do not underestimate the power of a skilled tailor (or a great leather jacket). But as I stood in my closet at 5 a.m. running late for a flight and with a full day ahead of me, I felt defeated by a wardrobe of favorite pieces—the sequined gown, the cozy weekend sweater and stacks of jeans, the beachy dresses, the amazing red stilettos that only look right with a certain red suit and start to pinch after 20 minutes.

FORGET ME NOT WEDDINGS There are approximately 200 species in the genus,[3] with much variation. Most have small, (1 cm diameter or less) flat, 5-lobed blue, pink or white flowers with yellow centers, growing on scorpioid cymes. They bloom in spring. Leaves are alternate. Popular in gardens, forget-me-nots prefer moist habitats and where they are not native, they have escaped to wetlands and riverbanks. They can tolerate partial sun and shade. Forgetme-nots may be annual or perennial plants. Their root systems are generally diffuse. Their seeds are found in small, tulip-shaped pods along the stem to the flower. The pods attach to clothing when brushed against and eventually fall off, leaving the small seed within the pod to germinate elsewhere. Seeds can be collected by putting a piece of paper under the stems and shaking them. In a German legend, God named all the plants when a tiny unnamed one cried out, “Forget-me-not, O Lord!” God replied, “That shall be your name.” Another legend tells when the Creator thought he had finished giving the flowers their colors, he heard one whisper “Forget me not!” There was nothing left but a very small amount of blue, but the forget-me-not was delighted to wear such a light blue shade. Henry IV adopted the flower as his symbol during his exile in 1398, and retained the symbol upon his return to England the following year. In 15th-century Germany, it was supposed that the wearers of the flower would not be forgotten by their lovers. Legend has it that in medieval times, a knight and his lady were walking along the side of a river. He picked a posy of flowers, but because of the weight of his armour he fell into the river. As he was drowning he threw the posy to his loved one and shouted “forget me not”. It was often worn by ladies as a sign of faithfulness and enduring love. Margaret Freeman, who cites the use of forget-me-not as a token of steadfastness by several fifteenth-century German love poets, speculates that the color blue, associated with fidelity in the Middle Ages, may have contributed to the flower’s meaning. Prior to becoming the tenth province of Canada in 1949, Newfoundland (then a separate British Dominion) used the forget-me-not as a symbol of remembrance of that nation’s war dead. This practice is still in limited use today, though Newfoundlanders have adopted the Flanders Poppy as well. Freemasons began using the flower in 1926 as a symbol well known in Germany as message not to forget the poor and desperate. Many other German charities were also using it at this time. In later years, by a handful of Masons, it was a means of recognition in place of the square and compass design. This was done across Nazi occupied Europe to avoid any danger of being singled out and persecuted. Today it is an interchangeable symbol with Freemasonry and some also use the forget-me-not to remember those Masons who were victimized by the Nazi regime. In English Freemasonry it is more commonly now worn to remember those that have died as a symbol that you may be gone but not forgotten. Henry David Thoreau wrote, “The mouse-ear forget-me-not, Myosotis laxa, has now extended its racemes very much, and hangs over the edge of the brook. It is one of the most interesting minute flowers. It is the more beautiful for being small and unpretending; even flowers must be modest.” In his 1947 long poem “Notes Toward a Supreme Fiction,” Wallace Stevens mentions the forget-me-not, using its scientific Greek-derived name: It observes the effortless weather turning blue And sees the myosotis on its bush. Keith Douglas, 1920–1944, wrote his poem “Vergissmeinnicht” (forget-me-not) about a dead German soldier in World War II whose body is found by the poet with a photograph of his girl with her words written “Steffi. Vergissmeinnicht”.

Picnic Weddings...
Picnic weddings are a unique and fun way to celebrate your marriage. We love them because they can take on so many different forms, from the formal, featuring champagne and blanket-to-blanket food service, to the casual, where guests serve themselves from a DIY sandwich bar. Because these outdoor weddings are nontraditional, they require lots of creativity and some careful planning.
Location, location, location. You can host a picnic wedding in pretty much any outdoor space such as a local park, a campground or the beach. But before you settle on a location consider your options. Are there permits you’ll need to acquire? Your city’s website will have information on how to apply for and obtain the right permissions. Think noise ordinances, alcohol restrictions and nighttime curfews. Read your city’s website thoroughly or call the parks department to ensure all of the legalities are squared away before sending out your invites. If you’re having your wedding at home, be sure you inform your neighbors well in advance and consider inviting them!
What you will need. A park or yard is a great backdrop for a wedding, so you’ll need to bring in just about everything, from decor to table settings. If your location features picnic tables, consider bringing in table cloths that show off your personality. Otherwise, figure out how many blankets you’ll need to accommodate your guests; consider putting families or groups of friends together, but be mindful of the size of each blanket you don’t want anyone to feel crowded. You’re also going to need plates, cups, flatware, serving utensils and a table for food and beverages.
The food. Now the fun part, picking out your wedding food! You have infinite options at a picnic wedding. Bring in a food truck, ask your favorite restaurant to cater, have a potluck, set up a DIY sandwich bar or pack a bagged lunch for each guest. You’ll want to avoid serving foods that are difficult to eat such as soups and stick to finger foods or dishes like pasta salad that can be served and eaten with ease.
Bad weather back-up plan. Unless you live in sunny South Florida, perfect weather isn’t always a guarantee. If your picnic wedding will be held in a backyard, prep the house as a bad weather back-up plan. You may not have as strong of an opinion on bath towels or water glasses, but you might want to include some lawn and garden tools, BBQ gear, man cave or home bar items on your list.
WEDDING PLANNING IS STRESSFUL Whether you’re concerned about a ballooning budget or feeling the time crunch, you and your fiancée will most likely start getting on each other’s nerves at some point during the planning process. This is normal and not a sign to run for the hills. Make sure to schedule some non-wedding-focused date nights to relax and unwind from time to time.
YOU MAY GET EMOTIONAL One of the things grooms should know is that this is one of the most important days of your life. The cake was one of the most unique cakes! It was a perfect combination of a classic three-tier cake with modern geometrical shapes matching perfectly to the Rose Gold metal cake stand and topper!
