Most people think of winter weddings as having snowflake designs, bare tree branches and glitter. A Winter Wedding in Florida is White Sandy Beaches, White Layer Cakes and Whitecaps on the Ocean! We see them all the time, and destination brides and grooms love the thought of having their toes in the sand on their wedding day with the roar of the ocean in the background. You can still incorporate some of those winter themes into your décor if you like, and sprinkle some glitter onto those starfish and shell centerpieces. The blue hues of the snow can now be incorporated into turquoise material on your bamboo canopy, or on your bridesmaid’s dresses. Have the flower girl place the petals or white sand in a sand pail to sprinkle up the aisle, and the ring bearer carry the rings in a seashell or blow bubbles. For those of you who must have those winter touches use white sparkling lights in your reception décor. Blue or a soft purple uplighting for the walls will also create the affect you desire. Rhinestone accents wrapped around your cake base, candles or centerpieces reflect memories of glittering snow. Clear Christmas tree balls with your names and wedding date written on them, and sand from the beach you got married on adds a unique and personal touch as a wedding favor. White confetti or rose petals thrown as you exit your ceremony will remind you of falling snow. Winter weddings in Florida are especially appealing to brides and grooms because of the tropical climate. The months December to March are considered our winter season. Noticeably drier [with very little chance of rain or even a sprinkling] and cooler with less humidity than spring and summer, the average temperature is 76 to 81 degrees, with the low being around 60 degrees. The famous humidity known to stick around in the long hot summer months disappears and is replaced with cool, off-shore breezes and clear sunny skies.

Because of the tropical weather, many couples having a winter wedding in Florida opt to hold their ceremonies outdoors. And it’s no surprise that beach weddings are the #1 choice. Another popular wedding venue is onboard a private chartered yacht.

Photography By: PSJ Photography

Winter weddings in Florida offer every kind of event imaginable – from the beach, a private island, city, garden, amusement park and cruise. Plus, it is affordable for your family and friends to join in on the festivities and fun. With its sunny weather and endless beautiful beaches Florida has something for everyone, and each Florida location offers its own unique experience such as: Trendy nightlife, water sports, arts, culture and events. From laid back to active no matter what kind of winter wedding in Florida you want, rest assured you will dance and romance the time away! For PJ of PSJ Photography and her team of Central Florida pros, a white Christmas is all about the sand instead of the snow. They envisioned a Florida Winter Wonderland take on the holiday, with a Christmas Eve “Florida Formal” wedding on the beach, filling their design with evergreen, pops of red and gold shimmer.

The Details : Flowers & Photography designed the table and florals, mixing green glassware with gold rimmed plates, a sequin table cloth and pops of red from the lacquered magnolia leaves. White roses and hydrangea paired with red berries and evergreen foliage create the holiday-inspired centerpiece and bouquet. Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 9

GAME OF THRONES WEDDING STYLE The return of Game of Thrones is all everyone can talk about. A Game of Thrones themed wedding can create some of the most visually stunning images, and is the perfect option for couples whose favorite shared pastime is vegging out in front of this epic fantasy drama. We’re not talking about a full costume affair, but a tasteful medieval infusion of nature and beautiful rich colors to add to your day. And if you feel you need another excuse; warm purples, reds and golds are amazing wedding colors for every season!

Wedding Dress Game of Thrones inspired dresses are all about flowing material. Grecian style dresses work really well for Summer, whereas a dress with a fitted bodice and empire line skirt is more suited to colder temperatures. Metallics are also bang on trend at the moment, and they really help to emulate the Royal theme.

Wedding Cake The cake is the one area where couples can go over the top. Wedding cakes are a great way of pulling all the aspects of your wedding together and really showcasing your theme! Think decorative swords, and Game of Thrones inscriptions such as ‘Winter is Coming’ and lots of wild flowers. Fear not if a cheese wedding cake is more your style, nothing says medieval banquet more than a cake made of cheese decorated in wild flowers, fruit and figs.

14 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

HOW CAN I INCORPORATE THRONES INTO MY WEDDING?

Hair Game of Thrones wedding hair is all about braids and long flowing waves. Take style inspiration from Daenerys Targaryen with a braided half up and half down style. The iconic Game of Thrones half woven braid looks amazing on any bride! Weave fresh flowers through the braids or wear a thin garland made of roses and thistles. If you prefer a more archaic look, many Game of Thrones brides are opting for embellished headwear.

Food Game of Thrones themed food is all about simple, traditional dishes cooked really well. Serve your guests a rustic banquet using local produce and lots of fresh herbs. If you’re looking for a more casual style buffet, dazzle your friends and family with a hog roast feast. The pig cooking on the fire will not only taste delicious, but will also create a genuine medieval ambiance! Lets not forget the red wine!

Tablscapes Table plans are an excellent way to get creative and showcase your theme. Many couples choose to name their tables after settings or families from the hit book turned TV adaptation. Get creative with the presentation and use a map of the seven kingdoms or the colors of each house.

“Where waterfront wedding dreams come true”

Saying I Do… From Beginning to End

T

By A N A V E N TO

he biggest reason to hire a wedding planner is having the peace of mind that all the details will come together as you envisioned. The amount of resources budgeted toward a wedding can be substantial. Couples can ensure that countless hours of planning time will be made easier and stress-free. In addition to being the center of attention, you two are also the hosts of the celebration, unlike the days when parents took charge of wedding day festivities. If a last-minute a problem arises, having a coordinator on board allows you to be charming, gracious hosts, rather than frazzled last-minute problem solvers. You’ll be able to truly enjoy every moment of the day and most importantly, “The coordinator is usually the last person to leave”! The benefits far outweigh the risks. Unless you are the type of person who likes to put her fingers into the wedding preparations and you are planning only for a small wedding, you are better off with a wedding planner. Don’t leave your wedding to chance…Let a pro handle it! The most obvious advantage for having a wedding planner is to free you from stress. Instead of you worrying about all the tiny details, you let the wedding planner do all the worrying and preparing. With the wedding

planner’s network of vendors, you need not have to negotiate and haggle with all the suppliers individually. That could be time-consuming and stressful. By letting the wedding planner talk to her contacts, she may save you a neat sum. Her contacts will be too happy to accommodate her with a friendly rate. With a wedding planner at the helm your wedding day will proceed like clockwork. Everything is done as scheduled and people perform their appointed tasks. You and your fiancé look your radiant best because you had no worries the months before the Big Day. Now, all you have to do is walk down the aisle and say the two magic words: “I Do!”

Pumpkin Carving Alternatives

DIYstyle

This issue’s sMARt tip is all about the centerpiece! Now that I have teamed up with 1-800Flowers. com in their movement to bring back the centerpiece, I was motivated and inspired to create fun projects that use the traditional pumpkin as something decorative, fresh and new. This time of year it’s pretty traditional to carve a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern, but what happens with beautiful pumpkins after that? Truth be told, with Thanksgiving only weeks away this is the perfect time to embrace the centerpiece idea. I’m talking about using this multi-sized vegetable as the foundation of a festive tablescape décor in ways that will wow your family and guests. Here are my favorite ideas to pump up the pumpkin: Tapered Candleholder: A flatter pumpkin works best as a candelabra; into the top, simply cut openings in which to insert the tapers. A paring knife is usually the easiest way—simply insert at a 90-degree angle and twist in circles until you have a hole about ¾ of an inch deep. (In the photo you see one taper, but add as many as you like—between 2-7 looks best.) I prefer a truly flat pumpkin, as they stay in place more easily and don’t obstruct the view across the table. Try the Cinderella pumpkin—an heirloom variety from France—readily available everywhere in various sizes and colors. Choose one the right size for your table combining décor and candles for a one-two punch. Votive Candleholder: Cut a hole in the top of the small mini pumpkin, saving the top as the decorative accent. Squeeze in a votive candle. To add the pumpkin top as decoration: use half of a toothpick; insert it into the underside of the top, then secure it to the outside of the pumpkin at a slight angle. Topiary Tower: Stacking pumpkins is an easy and fun project because by adjusting, moving and turning them you can discover the best way to fit them together like a puzzle. Alternate colors and textures a much as possible. Once you have decided on your tower’s order, it’s a good idea to secure them in place. To do this, skewer them vertically on thin dowelling—cut shorter than the stack—or simply use left over chopsticks from home delivery to connect each layer. Hay or autumn leaves inserted between each pumpkin adds that final festive touch. This looks great on a buffet or a front porch, too. Candy Pumpkin Apple: All it takes is a little spray paint and some imagination to turn the average small orange pumpkin into a larger-than-life candy apple treat for festive décor. I love using them in multiples to line the center of a longer table. Place these faux apples on a base of fall leaves and you are ready for your guests. For a chic, modern table, try glossy black or silver spray paint instead. After dinner, use them outdoors as they last well and the paint helps deter critters from munching on them. Pumpkin Planter: Designing your own table bouquet can be rewarding and fun. This project is easy and is perfect on the table for a special dinner celebration, to take as a hostess gift, or as the perfect favor for guests after a festive meal. Simply carve out the center of your pumpkin, creating the perfect vessel for placing a plant inside—pot and all. Are you inspired? Then jump into the movement to bring back the centerpiece with any one of these fun ideas! I’d love to hear how you incorporated pumpkins differently. finding your phone... How To Get A Lost Cell Phone Returned by lifstyle editor Mar Jennings

Have you ever lost your cell phone only to never have it returned? Most often than not people who find a lost phone want to do the right thing, however when one is found it is often difficult to identify the owner for two simple reasons: the phone is locked (needing a password) or the phone has no other identification connecting it to the rightful owner. This sMARt tip is all about three simple ways to get your mobile device returned—without leaving your phone unsecured. That said, here are my three tips to assure a reunion: Case Clue: More and more people use cases to jazz up and show personality and style when carrying their phones, yet if someone finds your phone your password prevents access to it. An inexpensive way to assure the finder can contact you? Simply write your name on the inside of the case along with a phone number (anything other than your lost cell phone number, of course). By also adding a simple message such as “please return for reward” you will no doubt incentivize and motivate the finder to call and do the right thing. Card Trick: Business cards can also become an essential tool in getting your phone returned to you. Truth be told, by simply placing a business card in between your phone and case with that magic message “please return for reward” they need not look any further for who owns the phone. Custom Declaration: My final tip is both simple and extremely decorative. With so many online resources offering the ability to create a custom phone case one can choose both creative designs and important messaging right on the case itself. A business logo, a family crest, or even a monogram can all be incorporated, and “return for reward” can also be added, along with a contact phone number. Zazzle.com offers a variety of choices and, best of all, you can download your own artwork and add a text box as well. Finally, how best to reward someone who returns your phone? Consider the cost, time and effort it takes to replace your phone. Always begin with a heartfelt, over-the-top thank you, and of course pay all expenses to get the phone back to you! If a cab or a bus ride is needed to assure it will get to you, offer to reimburse them for all their expenses.

A gift card is the perfect way to say thank you. Always include a hand written note. The amount of the gift should correlate to the value of what was found—I’ll let you be the judge of what is right for you and your budget.

Translating Runway Looks to Your Wedding Dress

Imagine this: walking down the aisle on your wedding day and feeling like it’s the ultimate runway. The fashion editors are watching in awe as you not only set the stage as a gorgeous bride, but are also making a total style statement that is uniquely you! Now picture this: stepping into the dressing room for your first fitting only to be faced with a sea of white, taffeta, sequins, lace, tulle, organza, corsets, veils and more white. What is a girl to do? How can you show your individuality when faced with so much of the same? Take a cue from the fashion week runways. Why not break the typical bridal gown rules and show your real personality, and true colors by slipping into the dress of your dreams that is runway-ready and bridal perfection.

28 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♼ www.florida-bride.com

It’s Black. It’s White With geometric lines, bold stripes and blocked panels, there are so many ways to interpret the bold black and white trend into classic elegance for your wedding dress. When adding black fabric into the mix of your dress stick to soft and flowing fabrics to avoid a heavy feeling. Or, make a fashion statement by choosing black accessories and elements to contrast the white dress. This can even be as simple as a black silk sash added to your dress. Worried about that being too harsh? Make sure to add in pink, lavender, or silver into the mix as well to soften up the contrast.

Embracing Colored Lace Lace as a wedding dress fabric is tried and true. It is romantic, feminine, regal and classic at the same time, but this spring why not make a splash in colored lace! This trend is all about making a cheery, bright and unconventional statement for your wedding dress. While cobalt may be a bold choice, coral, peach, baby blue, mint and even a sunshine yellow can all make a beautiful unique and energetic style statement on your wedding day. Who said wedding dresses need to be white, why not embrace the colored lace?

Ravishing in Ruffles The ruffle trend has made a very strong comeback on the runways and is perfect for the girly girl. There is just something about wearing a ruffle that makes us feel sweet and feminine. And with the spring 2016 runways showing ruffles in all shapes, sizes and fluid fabrics, this trend couldn’t be more perfect for the bride-to-be. When choosing ruffles make sure to wear them wisely. If you are big busted or broad shouldered then avoid ruffles near the bust, chest and sleeves of your gown. If you are hippy avoid ruffles near your hips. This is your day to look your most fabulous, and flattering your body shape is the best way to do that no matter the trend.

Metallic Finish Metallic fabrics are seen in every category from skirts to jackets, and everything in between. So take a note from ready-to-wear and shine bright in a metallic dress. Whether you go with champagne, light silver or even a metallic pastel you can be as minimal or amped up as you’d like. For a more subtle approach try metallic details and trims, or for a stronger take pair a metallic skirt and matte finish top-bodice. Keep in mind that if you have mature skin, you want to keep your metallics to the bottom half of your dress. Shiny fabrics can reflect light onto the skin accentuating lines and wrinkles. OKTOBERFEST Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and traveling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16-day folk festival running from late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the original Munich event. It’s tempting to view Oktoberfest celebrations as elaborate excuses to drink excessively every October. Oktoberfest’s origins date back to what was essentially a giant wedding reception. In 1810, Prince Ludwig of the German state of Bavaria invited the entire population of Munich to celebrate his marriage to Princess Therese. The revelers committed to do it again the next year, and a tradition was born. It was more than a century later that communities in the US caught on, but now the festivities grow more inventive every year.

The Historyof beer... When I suggested having Beer for our Signature Cocktail section I was given an enthusiastic look by my staff. Though not a beer drinker myself, it seems that there are some connoisseurs here that immediately jumped onboard with the idea. I have to admit that I never knew there were so many interesting and delicious recipes for beer. Hope you enjoy them!

Beer, or more specifically ale, is one of the oldest beverages humans have produced, dating back to at least the fifth millennium BC, and recorded in the written history of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. As almost any cereal containing certain sugars can undergo spontaneous fermentation due to wild yeasts in the air, it is possible that beer-like beverages were independently developed throughout the world soon after a tribe or culture had domesticated cereal. Chemical tests of ancient pottery jars reveal that beer was produced about 7,000 years ago in what is today Iran, and is one of the first-known biological engineering tasks to utilize the process of fermentation. In Mesopotamia, the oldest evidence of beer is believed to be a 6,000-year-old Sumerian tablet depicting people drinking a beverage through reed straws from a communal bowl. A 3900-year-old Sumerian poem honoring Ninkasi, the patron goddess of brewing, contains the oldest surviving beer recipe, describing the production of beer from barley via bread. The invention of bread and beer has been argued to be responsible for humanity’s ability to develop technology and build civilization. The earliest chemically confirmed barley beer to date was discovered at Godin Tepe in the central Zagros Mountains of Iran, where fragments of a jug, at least 5,000 years old was found to be coated with beerstone, a by-product of the brewing process. Beer may have been known in Neolithic Europe as far back as 5,000 years ago, and was mainly brewed on a domestic scale. Ale produced before the Industrial Revolution continued to be made and sold on a domestic scale, although by the 7th century AD beer was also being produced and sold by European monasteries. During the Industrial Revolution, the production of beer moved from artisanal manufacture to industrial manufacture, and domestic manufacture ceased to be significant by the end of the 19th century. The development of hydrometers and thermometers changed brewing by allowing the brewer more control of the process, and greater knowledge of the results.

Warm up to Winter Cocktails hot buttered rum A fabulous blend of ingredients that when mixed with rum creates a warming cocktail in more ways than one. Perfect for a night spent cozied up to a fire or to your honey; it’s an old favorite that is just as good today as it was decades ago. Whatever the liquid component, it’s as easy as heating your liquid, adding some of the batter and rum and finishing with a dollop of rum flavored whipped cream sprinkled with nutmeg. Fun to finish with a cinnamon stick but entirely optional too. Rim the glass with a combination of white and gold sanding sugars but hey, you’re not taking a photo of yours right? Purely optional! For the batter: 1 pound butter, 1 pound brown sugar, 1 pound confectioners’ sugar, 1 quart vanilla ice cream softened, 1 Tbsp vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon, 2 tsp ground nutmeg. To Make the Cocktail: 1 orange quartered, Rimming sugar; half granulated and half brown sugar spread on a plate, 4 oz. boiling water, 2 oz. rum, 2-3 Tbsp. hot buttered rum batter, Whipped cream (add a small bit of rum for a rum flavored one), Nutmeg and/or cinnamon stick for garnish. To Make the Batter: Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat. Blend in brown sugar and confectioners’ sugar. Remove from heat, and whisk in the ice cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour mixture into container(s), seal and freeze. To Serve: Warm the mugs or glasses to be used by filling with hot water; then empty. Rim the edge of the mug or glass with the cut orange and dip the rim in the combination of white and brown sugars. Squeeze the juice from a quarter of the orange into the mug. Fill the mug with the hot water and then add the rum and the batter. Stir, top with a dollop of whipped cream (optional) and a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Old Flaves

New Flaves Rachael Ray - Christmas Pasta We eat fish on Christmas Eve — no meat allowed. After Midnight Mass, all bets are off! We make this sauce for Christmas Day; you can’t fit another meat in the pot! As many times as you reheat it, it just gets that much better, so if people are coming and going throughout the day, cook off only as much pasta as you need at the time — half a pound for every three people.

ingredients

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 4 cloves garlic, crushed, 1 bay leaf, fresh or dried, 1/4 pound pancetta, thick. Cut, chopped into small bits (Italian cured pork, ask at deli counter), 1/2 pound bulk hot Italian sausage, 1 pound combined ground beef, pork and veal, 1 medium carrot, peeled and finely chopped, 1 rib celery, chopped, 1 medium onion, chopped, 1 cup good quality dry red wine, 1 cup prepared beef stock, paper container or canned, 2 (32-ounce) cans chunky style crushed tomatoes, a handful chopped flat leaf parsley leaves, 1/4 teaspoon (a couple of pinches) allspice or cinnamon, Coarse salt and black pepper, 2 pounds penne rigate, cooked to al dente, Grated Pecorino Romano, as an accompaniment. Fresh crusty bread for mopping.

preparation

Heat a deep pot over medium high heat. Add oil, garlic, bay, and pancetta bits and brown for 1 minute. Add meats and brown and crumble them for 5 minutes. Chop carrot, celery and onions near the stove and add to the pot as you work. Cook vegetables with meat 5 minutes and add wine. Cook for 1 minute; add stock and tomatoes to the pot. Stir in parsley, allspice, or cinnamon and season sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Bring sauce to a boil, reduce heat to medium low, and cook 10 to 15 minutes minimum before serving. Reheated sauce only improves. Toss pasta (cook off only as much pasta as you need at the time: half a pound for every 3 people) with a couple of ladles of sauce to coat, then top bowl with extra sauce. Top pasta with lots of cheese and pass bread at the table.

for the love of food...

holiday biscotti

Ingredients:

Giada De Laurentiis

2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature, 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 2 large eggs, 3/4 cup pistachios, coarsely chopped, 2/3 cup dried cranberries, 12 ounces goodquality white chocolate, chopped. Red and green sugar crystals for garnish.

Directions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a heavy large baking sheet with parchment paper. Whisk the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl to blend. Using an electric mixer, beat the sugar, butter, lemon zest, and salt in a large bowl to blend. Beat in the eggs 1 at a time. Add the flour mixture and beat just until blended. Stir in the pistachios and cranberries. Form the dough into a 13-inch long, 3-inch wide log on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until light golden, about 40 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes. Place the log on the cutting board. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut the log on a diagonal into 1/2 to 3/4-inch-thick slices. Arrange the biscotti, cut side down on the baking sheet. Bake the biscotti until they are pale golden, about 15 minutes. Transfer the biscotti to a rack and cool completely. Stir the chocolate in a bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water until the chocolate melts. Dip half of the biscotti into the melted chocolate. Gently shake off the excess chocolate. Place the biscotti on the baking sheet for the chocolate to set. Sprinkle with the sugar crystals. Refrigerate until the chocolate is firm, about 35 minutes. The biscotti can be made ahead. Store them in an airtight container up to 4 days, or wrap them in foil and freeze in resealable plastic bags up to 3 weeks.

Alternative Engagement Rings for

Non-Traditional Brides

The engagement ring can be traced back to Ancient Rome, when women wore a gold ring on the finger closest to the littlest one on their left hand because it was believed to hold a vein that ran all the way to the heart. In the 15th century an Austrian duke added a diamond, and since then not much has changed. Until now, that is. Traditional marriage has been turned on its head and with it, the expectation that all brides should wear white, be virgins and wear a diamond. Personal style is valued above all else these days, and while a single solitaire will never go out of style, it’s by no means the only way to show the world you’ve committed to the love of your life. A wealth of vintage rings, emerging jewelry designers, and unexpected colors and shapes from even the most storied jewelers, offers betrothed women endless opportunities to think outside the little blue box. Here are the most unique and elegant rings on the market—for engagements or otherwise.

Statement Engagement Rings Add a little razzle dazzle to your hand with these super sparklers from Chanel and Tiffany’s, respectively.

The New Band For those who prefer a diamond band instead of a single diamond, Repossi makes beautiful multi-band rings with tiny solitaires at the end.

Brown Is the New Black Brown diamonds (yes, you read that correctly) are all the rage this season so why wear one when you can have two? If brown is not your shade, then there’s always a Pomellato pavé diamond ring on a pink rose band or the edgy inverted stone ring by David Yurman.

Pretty In Pink A pink diamond always is a classic including Maria Jose’s diamond solitaire wrapped in pink pavé diamonds and Mish’s pavé pink diamond bands. Meanwhile, Dior set a solitary diamond in a sculptured gold fan while Jamie Wolf offers an alternative to sapphire with a purple-blue Tanzanite ring.

Classic Blues and Greens Wear emeralds and sapphires together, why don’t ya? Solange Azagury-Partridge’s blue sapphire and emerald rings pair perfectly with Valentino florals, while Verdura’s classically set sapphire is no ordinary solitaire. ARE VEILS BECOMING A THING OF THE PAST?

We don’t think so, but there seems to be some controversy on the subject. Over the past 20 years traditions surrounding the bridal veil have changed. We are finding that more frequently they are being worn over the face as a (blusher), however you don’t have to wear it over your face at all if you don’t want to. Some say the origin of the bridal veil began in Rome to keep evil spirits from being attracted to the bride, so they covered her face with a veil in order to conceal her features and confuse them. The definition of veil is to “obscure, shroud, mask or cover” so perhaps that is how the bridal “veil” got its name. It’s also said that in medieval times the veil was used to protect her from “the evil eye” and was a symbol of purity, chastity and modesty.

[

THE VEIL IS A SYMBOL OF PURITY AND MODESTY

Others say the origin of the bridal veil was due to the circumstances of an arranged marriage. In days past, men bargained with an eligible young lady’s father for their hand in marriage. AFTER the ceremony, the veil was lifted to reveal the brides features. This was to keep a groom from backing out of the deal if he didn’t like what he saw.

Times have changed and the old meanings of wearing a wedding veil have faded away. Now, wearing a bridal veil signifies a special event – A Wedding! Some brides comment that they don’t “feel” like a bride until they have a veil on their head. It highlights the bride’s appearance and features and is considered a bridal accessory, the final crowning touch! Bridal Gowns are transformed with the addition of a veil. Certain lengths of bridal veils got their names from how or where they were worn. At one time, Cathedral Veils were only worn in a wedding that took place in cathedrals. Brides of our day are making their own wedding veil history! Star Jones of the popular Television show “The View” wore a 27 foot long Veil–the longest known veil in history. It’s dubbed the “Star Cathedral Veil”. Her veil was two feet longer than Princess Diana’s Bridal Veil. It also used to be that brides marrying for the second time were not supposed to wear a veil, especially a white veil. Nowadays, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear a veil (even a white one) for a second marriage if you want to! (Don’t let anyone try to tell you different. It’s YOUR day! If you want to wear a veil, go ahead!) The wearing of a bridal gown and veil is one of the big days in a woman’s life–Choose what makes you feel good. Here are the traditional veil style lengths and their names, so when you are choosing your style and length of veil you will be well informed and in trend.

BIRDCAGE VEILS are the shortest length, and have enjoyed huge popularity in the last few years. There’s quite a bit of variety within birdcage veils, but they’re usually worn just covering the eyes or extending down to the chin. Super stylish and low-hassle.

SHOULDER LENGTH (ending anywhere from your shoulders to the middle of your back) are less commonly found these days, but are perfect for a fashion-forward bride, especially if you have detailing on your dress that you’d like to show off, but still want that dash of tradition. It usually comes in the length of 18” to 27” with the most common length of 20”. A fun version of the shoulderlength is the flyaway veil, which has more than one layer and just brushes the shoulders great for a modern or city chic wedding.

ELBOW LENGTH VEIL Usually ranges from 25” to 36”, with 25” being the most common length. They’re elegant and easy to handle, and when combined with a blusher are very romantic without the hassle of carrying a full-length train around with you. These are perfect if you’re wearing a full dress as they end just about at the point where the skirt of your gown begins, which is super-flattering. They’re also quite an informal veil, so ideal for a daytime setting.

FINGERTIP LENGTH BRIDAL VEIL This style of veil typically ranges from 36” to 50”. Depending on your height, build, etc. the length will vary. This veil should just meet your fingertips. Measure from where you are going to wear the veil on your head to your fingertips to get an idea of the Bridal veil length that is right for you. A 36” length is the most common length for a fingertip veil. If you loved Kate Middleton’s look, then fingertip-length is the one for you. This is the veil that flatters most brides and their dresses, and as a result is the most popular. A safe bet, but an extremely pretty one.

Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 49

WALTZ LENGTH BRIDAL VEIL This wedding veil is usually 54” to 60”. This veil is sometimes also called a Ballerina or Walking veil. The bottom of the veil should land somewhere between your calves and just above the ankles. I think ballet-length is one of my favorites, although you don’t see it as often as some of the other styles. You get much of the prettiness of the longer veil varieties, without worrying about tripping over yourself. Also called waltz-length (because you can still dance in it, see?), it falls anywhere between the knee and ankle.

CATHEDRAL LENGTH VEILS are the grand dame of them all, the Buck Palace, the Rolls Royce. This veil is dramatic, as it trails after the bride. This can range from 100” to 110” long. The most common lengths are 108” or 120” long.

CHAPEL LENGTH VEILS go all the way to the ground (it’s sometimes called a sweep veil), and may drape a little but does not have a train. This veil just touches the floor. It can range from 60” to 90”. The most common length is 90”. This is one for formal weddings, and is incredibly romantic and elegant. You’ll definitely feel like a princess! It’s often combined with a blusher and/or an elbow-length veil for two-or three-tiered loveliness.

OTHER VEIL TERMS YOU SHOULD KNOW BLUSHER is a term sometimes used for shoulder-length veils, but technically a blusher is the bit that stands in front of your face as you walk down the aisle, and that can be any length from birdcage to much longer. This is the one that your father lifts when he presents you to your husband – and probably the one that you’re going to want to avoid if the whole ‘unveiling of the bride’ tradition creeps you out. No doubt that they’re lovely, but make sure you practice wearing yours a bit since it’s a bit of a surreal experience at first. TWO-TIER (or double-tier veil) is simply one that has two lengths of veil combined (usually a blusher and a longer veil). As noted above, veils can also go to three tiers, which is a lot more dramatic and beautiful than it sounds like it would be. Usually at least one of the tiers can be detached for the reception. MANTILLA when it comes to pure gorgeousness, although it won’t work with all dresses and settings. A mantilla (man-tea-ya) is usually a circular piece of lace (or tulle with heavy lace edging) that is held in place with a comb to frame the face. However, this look can also be combined with a more traditional veil to retain the traditional lengths and shapes, but retaining the pretty lace-edged look. And one that is coming back in style: The JULIET CAP is a look I’m only just seeing start to take off again, with both Kate Moss and Lily Allen sporting the look at their weddings. It’s very chic – after all, wedding style goddess Grace Kelly did it, so it must be a winner!

Fenoli

Fenoli from Say Yes to the Dress shares some of the top wedding dress trends for 2016.

EVERYTHING

TOP DRESS TRENDS FOR 2016

From plunging V-necks, low backs, jumpsuits and even black dresses, Randy

“There’s something for everyone,” says Randy. Whether you prefer a look that’s more classic and traditional or modern and trendy, there are a variety of trends that will suit your style and body type. “If you want to look like Cinderella with a humongous tulle ball gown, if you want to be really glitzy and blinged out there’s plenty of dresses that sparkle. If you want to be sexy there’s dresses with see-through-bone corsets. If you want to be Bohemian there’s dresses that look like they just walked out of the forest, very simple and garden like. If you want to be understated there are the traditional dresses. I think that really the trend is everything, so that every bride can really express who she is.”

While the 2016 brides are all over the place, one of the main trends that they are going for is a low V-front neckline. “You’re going to see tons of low V-fronts on the runways and in magazines. Everything’s more ethereal, it has a bit of magic to it. You’ll see a lot of that. You’ll see a lot of lightweight fabrications, but definitely the big trend that I showed in my last collection as well as what I’ve seen with other designers is the plunging V-front,” says Randy.

LOW BACKS

Girls really want to show off their bodies in a different way so another major trend which Randy has seen is low backs. “Really sexy low backs have become very popular and the reason for that is because designers are doing a lot of non-strapless dresses, so with a non-strapless dress you can go with a really low back, but if it’s strapless don’t go with a low back because it won’t stay up.”

SHORTER TRAINS Randy explains that the trains on dresses have become a lot shorter. “This is because brides are thinking much more about the reception and partying and dancing all night. They don’t want to carry around a real heavy bustle all night at the reception.”

MATURE STYLE “I think the bride that is getting married today is a little more mature. She is a little more connected to the internet and social media, fashion and style. I think she is going to want a slimmer dress rather than a big poufy Cinderella dress, even though I think there will be some of that this season” explains Randy.

Really sexy low backs have become very popular

Hello BEAUTIFUL

By: Grace Crompton - Managing Editor What a fun and exciting photo shoot it was with Randy Fenoli, star of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress and Randy to the Rescue. As the most trusted source in the Bridal Industry, it is Randy’s mission to “Educate, Elevate and Empower” a bride to choose the most important dress in her life, and to realize her own personal beauty.

Since we are doing our holiday issue I thought it would be fun to bring Santa hats with me, and I am so glad I did. Randy’s creative mind took right over and Voila, our cover photo magically appeared! The photo shoot was held at the beautiful Eau Palm Beach Resort in Palm Beach, Fl. The Eau Palm Beach is a gorgeous resort that any bride would love to have her wedding at. No one knew except for some of the staff that we were arriving, so you can imagine the surprise in everyone’s eyes when they saw Randy Fenoli walk through the door! We want to give a warm thank you to the Eau Palm Beach Resort for graciously accommodating our needs. They couldn’t have been more professional and welcoming! When I began the interview with Randy the first thing I wanted to do was to welcome him to South Florida, and ask him how he is enjoying our sunshine state. Here is what he has to say: I have to tell you, I lived in New York City for 21 years and it was my home. I said I will never leave New York, this is it, I’m going to die here, put my ashes on the Hudson River. However, after being on the show for so long and everything happening in the city, I just had no privacy. Just walking on the sidewalk going to the grocery store became an event for me. I couldn’t even go to the grocery store, so I ended up buying everything online. I was literally in my apartment for eight months straight without leaving it, except to go film. The car would pick me up and take me to go film, then I would get back in it and come back, and I finally said this isn’t living. So, when I first moved here I walked into this big empty house. It’s 14 years old, not exactly my dream house, but coming here from New York I thought what have you done! I set there for the first month questioning it, now that I’ve been here I couldn’t have made a better decision. I’m so thrilled and happy to be here! What is Bridal Wars all about? They have so many bridal expos and shows across the United States that they wanted to kind of change the format. It is a group of vendors that come together and create challenges for these brides. Instead of going to your regular bridal show and collecting cards and having somebody give you a sales pitch, you really get to meet the vendors and have fun with them and interact. So, I think it’s kind of a better way to choose somebody for your wedding because then you really get to know their personality, and know if you want them at your wedding. It is so much fun, and some people that come aren’t even brides, there are always prizes and no one is a loser. Everybody gets a gift bag in the end, and there are prizes that the vendors give away. I think it is going to take off and change the face of what bridal shows are today. What was your favorite challenge that you saw at the last Bridal Wars? I’m going to give you two answers because I want it to be correct. Lip sync challenge was my favorite challenge, and the tuxedo truck push is really cool, too. The funniest one is when there are three on a team, one would have to run up to a table while another one would come up with a balloon, and not using her hands put the balloon in between, and they would have to pop it by squeezing their bodies together, it was really funny. What can brides and vendors expect from a Bridal Wars event and how did you get involved in it? I think a lot of interaction, a lot of fun, a lot of comradeship, I think that’s why you are getting married. You really want the wedding to be fun, or it should be, if you’re not having fun go to Vegas and do it overnight or go to city hall. I think weddings are about tradition, they’re about family and friends, and those people in your life that you are really close to and want to be with and spend time with, and this is the chance. It’s a chance to get these people together, they come up with these crazy costumes and they compete all day, and they drink, and it’s just hilarious fun! I think they all have a really good time. I got involved because my assistant Heather met Stacy who had being doing this for awhile, they came together and brought me in for the first 3 or 4 events.

Hello BEAUTIFUL

CLINTON’S GUIDE TO GETTING MARRIED... By: Grace Crompton - Managing Editor Do you have any advice on dresses?

Yes absolutely, one hundred percent, choose the dress that makes you feel the most beautiful. Now, I deal with this all the time. Sometimes the bride is not in the right dress that I would pull for her, she puts on a beautiful dress and it is perfection. Then she puts on another dress and I’m like oh no, not as good as the last one, then she comes out bawling saying I feel beautiful. What am I suppose to say? Because when you feel beautiful in something I truly believe you command attention. You stand taller, your shoulders go back, your smile gets wider, and when you walk into a room it’s not about the dress, it’s about how you feel in the dress, and the energy you are projecting. It’s that confidence where everyone is going to say, what a gorgeous bride. So always choose the dress that makes you feel more beautiful. How did you get involved doing a reality show? I never really wanted to do a reality tv show, but we are now into Season 14, and I am really happy about it because it is one of the reality shows on tv that is a true reality. You know we don’t feed people lines, we don’t set up situations, we bring them in and it’s like ok so you are here to find a dress today, and let’s just see what we can do and watch it unfold. There’s so much to say about family dynamics, that is why the show has lasted fourteen seasons. Everyone can watch the show and say that could be my elder sister that thinks she should have gotten married before me and hates every dress. Or, there’s a fight over the budget because mom says this is what we need to spend, and dad doesn’t care because this is his little princess, well then the bride is going to go for the most expensive dress she can get. There are always those family dynamics, then there’s a bride that wants to walk half naked down the aisle, and you’ve got a mother that is horrified, if I were in her position I would be too. I think you need to remember it’s a wedding and not a honeymoon. I’m really proud of the show and it’s fourteen seasons. It’s seen in at least 140 countries that I’m aware of, and that is why I am doing appearances in the UK , Denmark, Holland, South Africa, Ireland, Turkey, the United States and all around the world, it’s just amazing! Is there anything that you would like to relate to our Florida Brides? I think it’s most important, and I tell this to all brides, that you really need to just pause before you walk down the aisle. Take a look at every single person that came to your wedding because: Number 1, they took time out of their busy schedule and money to show up to your wedding because they are there to support you and your fiancé. I think it is important for you to know who those people are, and I think those people want to be recognized. Before you walk down the aisle just give them a moment of recognition, and look at them and see who came to your wedding. Secondly, they want to see what you are wearing, give them a moment to take it in. Usually the bride is halfway down the aisle and they’re just getting out of their seats trying to see her, and they’re watching the back of her dress. Give them a chance to take it in, it’s like the Academy Awards. If you watch it as I do to see the fashion, and see what everyone is wearing, they want to see what the bride is wearing. Number 3, so many brides after the wedding say “my gosh”, the day went by so fast I don’t even remember it. That’s because they’ve been told that at this time we’re walking down the aisle, at this time we’re cutting the cake, at this time is your first dance. They need to step back for just a moment and say ok, but for just a moment I’m going to take my fiancé and we’re going to run back into the corner, and we’re going to have some OUR time. Just to reflect on what’s happened during the day, and make a memory, I think that’s what it’s about.

The great thing about Florida is its beautiful scenery and beaches, take advantage of it. There are so many luxurious hotels for your wedding venue. Feel lucky that you have so many resources, like the ocean and palm trees and embrace it all.

I like to put myself in someone elses shoes to realize how they feel

At Wonderland Bridal Couture, we believe that shopping for a wedding gown is a special experience. When you come to our boutique you will be greeted by owners Alicyn or Patti. We met several years ago while we were both selling Mary Kay Skin Care and Cosmetics. Patti was in the medical industry and Alicyn was a banker and working part-time at a bridal salon. We were both successful business women but were no longer content with making money for other people. We decided to combine our experience in the beauty and fashion industries to start a business where we could make a difference in how women look and feel. We focus on the gown shopping experience and provide a fun and relaxing environment which includes an elegant and stress free atmosphere. We accept one bride at a time so appointments are highly recommended. Brides without an appointment are welcome only if there is time to give the bride our undivided attention. Runaway Bride

Photography By: Ais Portraits

I’m really excited to share this styled wedding shoot with you. It was a collaborative styled shoot with Ashley and Todd Films and several other amazing vendors. The shoot was inspired by nature and the idea of a runaway bride elopement. Sarah and Kenny Geisler were our lovely bride and groom for the day. They were already married, but they still had their wedding attire. We shot at Unlimited Adventures in Milton, Florida. We started out in the beautiful treetop cabin where the bride and groom got ready on different levels. I always love the first look, so we decided to keep the couple separate. We pulled them away from everything designed and let them share each other in the middle of the forest on a little winding path for a staged meeting. The reception was planned in the middle of the woods where the trees seemed to have the most character and personality, since we wanted nature to play a big role in our setting. Everything was then set revolving around the ceremony location so even though it was still in the middle of the woods it still had a wedding feel to it. A whisky tasting table was set at the beginning of the aisle to give a relaxed fun feel, and I also felt it really pulled into the outdoor style of everything.

A sweetheart table kept in the same design theme with natural colors ready for beautiful plated meals of Cornish Game Hen, Hasselback potatoes and mason jar fruit delights for the couple to enjoy! With a beautiful river flowing right beside the shoot we wanted to find a way to really capture its beauty, and have the bride and groom celebrate, and enjoy it. This led to a beautiful sunset sendoff downstream in a canoe, which really played into the runaway bride theme and gave us an exit. No sparklers needed, just paddles!

ELIZABETH TAYLOR

GRACE KELLY

MARILYN MONROE

Liz Taylor took a page out of Cleopatra’s book, as both women made a habit of shaving their face. It may sound funny, but it removes the fine baby hairs and the surface layer of skin cells, which gives the skin a facial-like glow.

Contrary to popular belief, contouring is not a new technique, nor was it invented by Kim Kardashian. The Princess of Monaco used blush to define her cheekbones, with one shade for underneath her cheekbones, and a slightly darker shade dusted on the apples.

To make her lips appear fuller, Monroe would have her makeup artist apply 5 different shades of lipstick and gloss to create dimension. Darker reds went on the outer corners, while lighter hues were brushed on the middle of the lips.

RITA HAYWORTH Hayworth’s wavy red mane was her signature–so naturally, she had to keep it in tip-top shape. She did this by applying oil to her hair after every wash, wrapping it in a towel, and leaving it in for 15 minutes. Afterwards, she’d wash it out with hot water and lemon juice to remove any leftover residue.

Irish

CELTIC STYLE St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th, and I don’t know about you, but I anticipate this holiday before it actually arrives. I have never been to Ireland, but did visit Wales a few years back and can only imagine how beautiful the moss covered green of the countryside is. Now, we have talked about green weddings in prior issues, but when we spoke of those we were talking about eco-friendly ones. This green wedding article will be different, it is based on Irish traditions and its folklore. Since I am always researching wedding ideas, I began researching Irish wedding traditions. I have to tell you there are quite a lot of them that date back for centuries. Here are several that I have collected which I really think are charming, and easily able to be incorporated into a modern day wedding theme. You will find a lot of them are vintage related with a touch of antique elements added for appeal.

Bells

Did you know that in a lot of traditions the sound of bells ringing were thought to ward off malicious spirits, and that’s why you hear the ringing of church bells at the end of a wedding ceremony? Small bells are a customary wedding gift to the couple in Ireland. They are thought to remind them of their blissful wedding day. In modern times, couples often give guests small bells to ring during their send off.

Let’s talk about Irish Lace

Irish Lace has a very traditional feeling about it and is so intricate. For centuries it has been produced by the women of Ireland. It is usually included in the veil or wedding dress, and let’s not forget about the lucky handkerchief! With its’ oh so ultrafeminine appeal its’ vintage look is timeless….

What is a Lucky Handkerchief ?

On the brides wedding day, an Irish bride would carry what is called a lucky handkerchief. It could be sewn inside her wedding gown, used as a wrap around her bouquet or placed inside her purse. After the wedding she would use this same handkerchief to make a christening bonnet for her new born child to symbolize good luck. The handkerchief usually has the brides’ initials on it along with her wedding date. I absolutely adore this custom, it is so easy to accomplish by utilizing reused or vintage items.

70 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

A Horseshoe

Here in America we consider a horseshoe good luck. We often place them above our doorway facing upright to catch the good luck. Irish brides also consider them good luck, in fact in ancient times iron and horses were of the utmost importance so much so that they were thought to bring good luck to a bride if she carried an iron horseshoe on the day of her wedding. Then after the wedding they would place the horseshoe above the doorway of the newlyweds home. Iron horseshoes have been replaced recently with more modern looking ones such as porcelain. Some modern brides also attach a horseshoe charm to their bouquet or garter.

Braided Hair & Flower Crown

The beauty of a woman’s hair has long been considered a symbol of feminine power. Many Irish brides would braid their hair and interweave it with ribbons and wildflowers, or wear a floral crown on their wedding day. What a great romantic, whimsical and ethereal look it has to it.

Blue Dress

Okay, so now I am going to throw a loop into all that is green! Contrary to popular belief, it is blue and not green, that traditional Irish brides should be wearing on their wedding day. In ancient Ireland, blue was considered the color of purity, so brides would often wear a blue wedding dress. In contrast, green was associated with sprites and fairies; mischievous creatures who had a penchant for stealing beautiful brides away on their wedding day. These days, an Irish bride might wear a dress with a blue sash or trim…its fashionable and protection from the fae! (a mythical creature) We may not all be able to catch that flight over to Ireland to have our wedding in a romantic castle, but we can still incorporate some of the time old customs and traditions into our own here. Especially if you are about vintage, they work so well for that theme. Real Inspiration - Candice Benjamin, Photographer

The HBO series Game of Thrones has become a popculture phenomenon that has drawn many viewers into the beauty and passion of the world of Westeros, created by author George R. Martin. While the tales are often full of deceit and violence, the rich and regal texture of this world of kings and queens – and even dragons – provides romantic visual inspiration for a wedding day of legendary beauty. We first started gathering simple ideas and wanted to create something that was inspired by nature and the mythical beauty of the kingdom of Westeros. Something that alluded to scenes of royalty without necessarily screaming “period piece” – we wanted it to be relevant to someone that was a fan of the show, but keep it modern and current. Look for the house sigils (symbols of prominent families in Westeros) throughout the design, including the printed materials and of course the cake.

Newlywed Checklist... So here you are just married and all the running around and planning is over (but well worth it). You’ve gotten through the wedding and enjoyed the honeymoon, and now you are settling into your new married life, but before you get too comfortable there are a few critical tasks that you still need to take care of. Sort Out Your Wedding Gifts Now that you’ve returned from your honeymoon, you and your new spouse will need to take some time to sort through all the gifts you’ve received. The best way to do this is to open up an Excel spreadsheet (or grab a notebook) and carefully record who gave you what presents. This is a great way to remember who to send thank you cards to, and it will also allow you to add a personal touch to all your thank you notes. Speaking of which… Send Thank You Notes Once you’ve marked down the gifts you’ve been given, you will want to send out thank you cards as soon as possible. This is the polite thing to do, as your wedding guests all went out of their way to pick you out a special gift. Believe us, this may be the last thing you want to do, especially when you’re still in honeymoon mode. You will feel so much better after you send out those thank you cards. Buy a few pens, grab your spouse, and devote a weekend afternoon to writing out those notes! Enjoy Your New Status So many couples get back into the routine of everyday life once they’ve become husband and wife. Don’t be so quick to fall back into day-to-day living. Celebrate sweet and silly moments, like your first week of marriage. Do something crazy, like wearing Just Married clothing. Remember, being married is a journey that involves plenty of work. It’s important to take time to celebrate what makes your sweetheart so special. It’s a great way to keep the love alive – the same love that inspired you to marry your spouse in the first place. Heard of

“Strobing”

the anti-contouring beauty trick

you need to know

Strobing is highlighting to the max, and is a makeup technique that creates a “healthy glow at the highest voltage possible”. To create this effect apply highlighter where the sun would naturally hit your face — including the bridge of the nose, tip of the chin, center of the forehead, cupid’s bow, brow bones, and cheekbones. The process can even begin under your foundation with a radiance-boosting primer or a very emollient moisturizer. Though there are some that are calling it just another marketing ploy for contouring, strobing is actually the opposite of it! “Contouring is adding lowlights and shadows to your face by using a bronzer that’s a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone where strobing is focusing on the light.” Those who contour their face typically also highlight it, those who strobe often skip the bronzing step and let the highlighter alone define their features. “Strobing has absolutely less margin for error than contouring does,” says professional makeup artist Wayne Goss, who has a video on his YouTube channel where you can see the technique in action. Goss emphasizes the importance of only highlighting the areas you want to be more prominent, because it brings more attention to them. And be sure to keep your skin tone in mind when choosing a shade or the effect can be jarring. For pale skin, Goss recommends using a highlighter with light pink undertones. For medium and medium-deep skin, Goss says gold-based products are the way to go. And those with dark skin tones should look for highlighters with a burnt orange or burgundy color to them. Liquid and cream highlighters are the most popular formulas for strobing since they create a super-dewy effect. (Just apply them with your fingers, then blend with a fluffy brush.) Goss is a fan of Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfectors which come in a variety of shades —including pink, gold, and burgundy. Powders are better for those with oily skin. “There are no ‘trends’,” says Goss, who explained that highlighting techniques like this have been used for years. But, it’s a great way to enhance that summer glow you’ve already got going on — and break out of your summer makeup rut. “It makes you feel pretty, and if you’re subtle it creates a mysterious glow!”

It’s like Tetris for your Locks!!

Pixel Hair! about the stylists...

From its very beginning this creative studio, formed by 3 young entrepreneurs from Madrid – Marco Antonio Restrepo, Jorge Cáncer and Jose Luis Almendral work on developing new cutting, coloring and dressing techniques, through a mix of different artistic disciplines, materials and concepts. In such a short period of time X-presion has achieved to transcend beyond the boundaries of hair to all its possible forms. The trio sees their art as a form of discovery, one that is dedicated exclusively to investigation and innovation within the craft of hairdressing. Each one of X-presion’s projects is a multi-layered creative fusion of music, video, costume design and photography. Apart from educating professionals from all over the world and creating spectacular collections, X-presion extend their work to the world of art, music and cinema. Their creations have appeared on more than fifty covers of the most prestigious professional magazines.

It’s Tetris for your Locks! Forget ombre, pixelated hair is the latest trend... so would you dare to try the quirky look? Just when you think that hair fashion couldn’t get any crazier, a salon in Madrid developed an eye-catching new technique of dyeing hair they’re calling “pixelated hair.” This style sees patches of hair bleached and colored in square sections, like pixels on a computer screen. This eventually creates designs with edges and corners that look striking on human hair. The effect almost looks like light shining onto the wearer’s head. The design seems to work best on straight hair, and the hair must be combed for the design to take shape. It’s not clear how well the style will hold up in everyday life. Plus, bright hair dye often fades after one or two washes. Still, the effect is pretty cool, and even if it only lasts a short while, it creates a striking look.

The coloring technique can either be subtle, using tones similar to your natural hair color, or much more daring using clashing neon shades. The technique is infiltrating salons in Spain, London and New York. In fact, beauty giant Revlon recreated the look for its campaign.

JAY MANUEL

Jay Manuel has a deep appreciation for the creativity and focus essential for developing a unique and memorable personal style. A fashion and beauty expert who began his career as a makeup artist, he has worked with some of the industries prolific creative visionaries and beauty icons. He has spent 20 years on both sides of the camera as fashion correspondent, series regular, host, judge, creative director and executive producer on some of the decade’s hottest television shows, including America’s Next Top Model and Fashion Police. Jay can be seen on the red carpet covering the glamorous world of celebrity fashion and beauty at the Emmys, the SAG Awards, the Grammys, the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.

Beauty. It’s deeply personal, purely individual and surprisingly public. A woman’s appearance is an outward reflection of who she really is.

Budget-friendly fashion tips from Jay Manuel A change of season means it’s time for a wardrobe refresh – who can resist this fall’s cozy knits and lace-up booties? But if you’re strapped for cash–and really, who isn’t these days?– it may seem like updating your look is out of your budget. Luckily, fashion guru Jay Manuel of “America’s Next Top Model” fame has some great tips to help you freshen up for fall without spending a bundle.

1

Splurge on quality staples Manuel suggests spending your hard-earned cash wisely on investment pieces that will last for years to come. His number-one wardrobe must for every woman: A great-fitting blazer. “You can dress those blazers up and down. You can wear it with a white shirt, jeans, your favorite bag and shoe, or you can wear jeans and a beaded top under the blazer. You have something that’s very versatile, and I think that’s important,” he says. Another key piece for the season is a quality wide-leg pant which can take you from work to an evening out. “The wide-leg trouser is the most universally flattering silhouette and it fits most women. Not everyone can wear a skinny.”

2 3

Save on tops A new top can freshen up an old skirt or trousers, but you don’t have to spend a lot on these trendy pieces. “If you have a black or grey suit, you could have a great patterned top or you could were a beaded top – you could totally play with it. Those pieces typically are a little lower price point so you can have a few more of those pieces,” Manuel suggests.

You need a great coat Manuel grew up in Scarborough, Ont., so he knows how essential it is for Canadians to love their coats. “I’m an outerwear person, I love outerwear. I think it’s great to have a versatile but statement outerwear piece because we have a long winter here in Canada, and there is no reason we should look drab on the outside for the whole winter,” he says. One need only glance across any busy Canadian street in the middle of February to know that we tend to gravitate toward grays and blacks for our winter wear, but Manuel suggests buying a bold shade this year. “[In my collection] I showed black, I showed neutral, but I also showed color because right now in fall, it’s all about color blocking and color - it’s not just about the grays and the blacks. It’s OK to reach for color for outerwear and I think it will actually pick up your spirits in winter.”

4

One word: Accessorize! “The best way to update your look, especially if you’re strapped for cash, is accessories because you can play with things,” Manuel says. Pick up an inexpensive saddle bag or wide belt and presto, your dress is so fall 2015. “You just change the accessory and it totally changes the vibe of the dress,” Manuel says.

Manuel is releasing a line of cosmetics, aptly named Jay Manuel Beauty. The range already has a dedicated website and offers everything from foundation and lip gloss to blush and makeup brushes. The hero of Manuel’s line is the Filter Finish Collection, a range of products to enhance your face-boasting foundations, concealers, bronzers and more, and is made with micronized silk and diamond dust. These ingredients are supposed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and imperfections.

Brides Q & A Why did you choose Marco Island Marriott as your venue? We chose the Marco Island Marriott as our venue for our wedding because we fell in love with the resort from the first moment we arrived. The property is absolutely stunning and every other venue we had seen did not compare. What was your favorite moment from your wedding day? Our favorite moment from our wedding day was seeing each other in church for the first time. What was the biggest obstacle you faced while planning your wedding or on the wedding day? To be completely honest I can’t say there were any significant obstacles throughout the planning process or on our wedding day. The Marriott and all of our vendors made the planning process so easy and enjoyable. Is there anything you would change, looking back at your wedding day? Looking back on our wedding day I would not change a thing. The week of the wedding a cold front came in and I was so worried about it not being warm enough to be outside. However, the Marriott provided heat lamps to keep everyone warm and they looked great too!

Holiday Happiness

Kevin and Melissa might be the greatest couple ... EVER. They are gracious, compassionate and committed to being the best version of themselves for the other person. They have a secret way of communicating through a twitch of the eyebrow, a curl of the lips or just a slight pause. Their connection is magnetic and joy fills the room when they are together. Where do we start with this stunning wedding? Melissa is GORG! Her dress, veil and the pine-cones in her bouquet all elegant and embrace the holiday spirit of this December wedding. Casa Lantana is a magical wedding venue, a secret gem of Tampa. Beautiful woods, gorgeous estate and even a rustic barn. Basically, a photographers dream. Between this amazing couple and the beautiful surroundings we are so excited to present this wedding. Most important for the Bride and Groom was sharing their day with family. I think they made everyone feel loved as they danced, ate gourmet cupcakes and roasted marshmallows! We wish Melissa and Kevin the best. Mermaid Inspiration

Real Weddings

Captured by Bri Cibene Photography

The Palm Coast was a perfect location for this styled shoot - the stretch of beach in this town has one of the two coquina rock croppings in all of Florida! We had some amazing vendors that really brought this shoot to life! Lynette from Rose of Sharon really took my floral vision and blew it out of the water! She created a STUNNING freeform bouquet filled with lots of greenery, including my favorite, hanging amaranthus. She also included touches of gold Italian ruskus, white dahlias, anemones, white veronica, seeded eucalyptus and succulents tipped in gold. I really wanted to bring some lush details to contrast the rocky beach. Lynette created two large sprays of foliage to set amongst the rocks, and they look absolutely incredible!

I was so fortunate to work with Alison from Alleycakes Dessert Company for the dessert table! She is getting married in May and has a similar theme, so she had lobster traps on hand! The traps draped with a perfect sequin mermaid fabric and floral accents were the perfect setting for Alison’s creations. The cake had a subtle ombre effect and was accented with florals by Rose of Sharon. There were also shimmery French macaroons, watercolor meringues, and coconut macaroons!

The Palm Coast, Florida

The tablescape was one of my favorite aspects of the shoot. Rose of Sharon used driftwood accented with foliage, orchid blooms and succulents for the centerpieces. The table linen was a DIY project - a simple canvas drop cloth from Lowe’s dip dyed with RIT denim blue! The subtle ombre looked amazing against the backdrop of the rocky beach. White kate spade china sat atop driftwood chargers from Set Event Rentals. Gold flatware and votives were the perfect accents, along with uncut stone details. Blue calcite pieces held the DIY placecards, which were created with watercolor and luxe Silk & Willow handmade paper! Hemstitch napkins and beautiful driftwood chairs from Beachview Event Rentals & Design completed the look!

Angie and Joe had a natural chemistry for this perfect seaside shoot. Angie had two looks. The first dress, by Elouise Couture, flowed beautifully in the wind! It was paired with a gorgeous modern day crown hair piece from Hushed Commotion. The second dress was by Adrianna Papell, and the sequin and beading detail epitomized mermaid inspiration.

Green Peace, In the limelight and the After Party!

FIVE Trends Forman Productions saw in 2015

Foreman Productions had the honor to be a part of over 300 events in 2014 and here is a little of what we saw: Limelight Please! Flame directed on a cylinder of lime created the white light that illuminated Broadway from the start and the importance of Lighting continues to this day. Customers and attendees commented very frequently on the lighting as one of the most important aspects. DJ Play My Song! Modern and contemporary music sometimes required a special digital injection of flavor that a DJ and Fusion Band concept brings home perfectly. Be sure to discuss with your band leader the new trend of Fusion Music. Green Peace! Past clients have expressed repeatedly the natural color and warmth that palm trees, ferns, and everything in between can bring to the color palette of the event. Foliage options are usually much more affordable when you package them with other services. After…Party…Food and Music! Recent years have led to the after-reception food bar experience. Rather tacos, local fair, or White Castle we have seen consistent requests for food and light music after the reception period. Save Money! Working with a company that can provide multiple elements of an event from entertainment to décor can be the perfect way to simplify billing, streamline production oversight and create an opportunity for increased savings.

Custom CakesAND MORE...

by: Managing Editor Grace Crompton

Jennifer Johnson of Johnson’s Custom Cakes

On June 29th. Cake Wars aired for the first time on the Food Network channel. You were one of the first contestants on the show. Tell us about your experience. It was amazing, hard and very mind boggling. It was awesome to get the exposure, and a true blessing. The production company was amazing, but it is not for amateurs for sure. One of the judges was Ron Ben Israel who is an amazing artist that I have admired my whole career, and I was very humbled by the experience. When did you first open your store? In November of 2009, I shared a space with the International Polo Catering Co. Aaron’s Catering, and then I grew into a storefront. I would not have been able to do it without their support and guidance in the beginning. We started off in a little closet, and we grew into this huge storefront. When did you know that baking cakes was your passion? I was in nursing school when I started taking classes, and my old boss Judy Duke, she’s my cake mom and an experienced fantastic designer. She asked me if I would come to work for her, and I became an apprentice under her for five years and learned so much. I traveled and learned from instructors all over the world, it’s a gift. Tell us about some of your most memorable wedding cakes. One of them was for the International Polo Club. It was Rollins cake, it was so beautiful. It was actually in one of Florida Bride Magazines past issues that had an article with Ron Ben Israel in it. There was a wedding cake that we did for the Smiths that was all gum paste flowers, which is my favorite thing to do, that’s what I’ve been trained in from the best. We did another one that was 10 tiers high, they are all very memorable to me and very close to my heart. I think that each and every wedding is an honor to do. We get to be a part of their very special day, all these amazing brides and grooms, I respect every one. Our brides get to grow into family with us, we get to do their babies cakes and birthday cakes. What is your favorite flavor of cake? For the 2015 and 2016 season I have been working with an executive chef, we came up with a new line of cake flavors and my favorite is our red velvet. It has a little bit of a twist to it though, not just a regular red velvet cake. All of our cakes have a little bit of a twist to them. This one has coffee in it, it’s all scratch ingredients but very different. What would you say to other aspiring cake designers? This industry is hard. I grew up in the kitchen, I worked with the best chefs continuously, and it’s not a normal life. It’s not a nine to five job. We have to work every weekend, every holiday, and it is very physical. People get married on the weekend, I have a different life than a normal woman. Remember that no matter how hard you get knocked down, no matter how much heartache life brings you, never give up on your dream. If you believe you can do it, you can do it. That’s my motto…don’t dream your life, live your dream.

98 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN What trends in wedding cakes do you see for 2016? I hope it’s not the naked cake. I would like to see us go back to the modern educated design. I really like the wafer paper flowers, gum paste and intricate skilled work, a very clean modern look is what I would like to see in cake design for 2016.

Don’t dream your life, live your dream.

Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 99

Is there anything you want to add? We competed at the Chocolate Lovers festival locally, they don’t have it anymore, but we won 3 consecutive years in a row. Then we won Flavors of Wellington twice, and I competed last year and was a finalist in the Kerry Vincent show. Then this year we got cast for Food Network, we did not apply or audition. I picked up the phone one day and it was Food Network, somehow they found us. What do you see yourself doing in the future? I want to teach. I see myself sharing my experiences with others, I learn something new every day. Always be humble.

“Antonio Lopez”

®

Flaws have rarely been as celebrated as they are right now. Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane said, “I also always have this idea that it has to look vaguely wrong to feel right.” It wasn’t so long ago that we lived for effort, embracing the ultra-glamorous and the super made-up with the passion that made so many of its most famous names fall in love with the industry in the first place. Antonio Lopez, the vibrant illustrator who, in many ways, shaped women like Jerry Hall and Grace Jones, was a man who loved beauty above all else. In 1969, Lopez was commissioned by French ELLE, to travel to Paris and sketch the new Chloe collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld. It is hard to imagine now, but the City of Lights was quite provincial at the time; the French were still calling models mannequins, and New York’s raucous nightlife was nowhere to be found. Lopez and his Art Director and business partner Juan Ramos, stood out, wearing Cuban heeled boots, gold jewelry, and blasting Diana Ross in their studio. Smitten, Lagerfeld put them in one of his apartment’s, to which they promptly invited Warhol factory friends Donna Jordan (an aspiring model), make-up artist Corey Tippin and later model, Pat Cleveland to bring New York to Paris. And that’s when the city started to earn its nickname. Paris was on fire in the ‘70s. Yves Saint Laurent left Christian Dior to start his own label, Lagerfeld took on Fendi, and Le Sept, a hedonistic new nightclub, became the go-to spot. Lopez discovered women like Jessica Lange, Grace Jones and Jerry Hall, inviting them to his studio where he wouldn’t just draw them, but style and make them up into what became their signature looks; it’s impossible to overstate his influence on the iconic faces of that decade. “Antonio wanted everybody to be beautiful—himself included,” Lagerfeld said of the illustrator. “This was in the day before a certain kind of ugliness would become a new form of beauty. And, in fact, in his portraits and in his illustrations everybody did look beautiful, sometimes too beautiful. He didn’t want to reproduce his models’ imperfections (as is often the case in photography today). Beauty was the only thing he desired. He lived for beauty.” De la Renta meanwhile, said Lopez “invented” clothes for him. “I was sending him a piece of a fabric and he had the imagination to make what I was explaining to him 20 times more beautiful. And it was a challenge to me, because then when I made the dress I had to make it like his drawing. He really was an extraordinary talent.”

A face is like a work of art. It deserves a great frame.

Beatrice Borromeo marries Pierre Casiraghi in pale pink Valentino Gown For Monaco’s fairy-tale wedding of the year, the blushing bride Beatrice Borromeo turned to Valentino to make her dreams come true. The 29-year-old shunned tradition and decided to say “I do” in a pale pink wedding dress. Beatrice married her long-term love Pierre Casiraghi, the younger son of Princess Caroline of Monaco, in a civil ceremony. Staying true to her effortlessly chic style, the bride looked exquisite in the bespoke creation, which she topped off with a matching floral crown. Italian fashion house Valentino shared a photo on Instagram, the first official one of the newlyweds to be released – showing Beatrice and Pierre standing on the palace balcony. The bride and groom only had eyes for each other, as they sweetly held hands and mirrored each other’s smiles. “The House of Valentino is pleased to announce that Beatrice Borromeo wore a Valentino Haute Couture dress designed by creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, for her civil wedding with Pierre Casiraghi on July 25th at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco,” the caption read. “The wedding gown was created in a pale pink and gold lace silk chiffon.” It comes as no surprise that Beatrice, who belongs to Italy’s aristocratic Borromeo family, chose to wear Valentino on her big day. Several royal brides before her, including her sister-in-law Tatiana Santo Domingo who married Pierre’s brother Andrea Casiraghi, have walked down the aisle in Valentino. Beatrice has a particularly special connection with the fashion house. Her uncle Count Matteo Marzotto was the former president and director of the Valentino fashion house when the label belonged to the Marzotto Group.

1

Kate Middleton A princess has to have the perfect dress, and Catherine Duchess of Cambridge certainly did. After months of speculation Kate married Prince William on April 29, 2011, in a stunning longsleeve lace Alexander McQueen creation. The tiara wasn’t too shabby either.

2 3

Amal Clooney Sorry, George -- all eyes were on Amal on your wedding day. How could they be anywhere else? The British human rights attorney lit up the room in a French lace Oscar de la Renta dress with a floor-length veil. Amal was one of the last women to wear a custom gown by the Dominican-American designer -- the Clooneys were married in Venice, Italy, on Sept. 27, 2014, and de la Renta passed away on Oct. 20. Solange Knowles

Beyoncé’s lil sis isn’t known for her subtlety, so it’s no surprise that her wedding to video director Alan Ferguson was planned out to the tiniest choreographed detail. “Everyone I worked with on the wedding are friends who I love,” the 28-year-old singer told Vogue. “Everything was a labor of love.” One of those loved ones included Humberto Leon, who designed the simple yet striking Kenzo column dress with a built-in floor-length cape. Naturally, there had to be a little bling to this photoworthy day -- check out the thick gold cuffs peeking out from Solange’s cape. 108 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

Christina wasn’t the only blushing bride gushing over Riccardo Tisci. When Kim married Kanye West in a spectacular wedding at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, on May 24, 2014, she did it in a custom-made long-sleeved Givenchy Haute Couture lace gown with a long silk veil. Kanye and daughter North West were also decked out in designs by family friend Tisci.

5

Angelina Jolie

Everything about the longawaited union between Angelina and Brad Pitt was unique, from the ceremony being held at the Chateau Miraval chapel on their own estate in Correns, France, to the cake baked by their then 10-year-old son Pax. The most intriguing part of all, though, was that dress. Donatella Versace helped create the custom Atelier Versace white silk-satin stunner with a gathered bust and elongated train, while master tailor Luigi Massi sewed embroidered drawings by the six Jolie-Pitt kids into the veil. “Luigi is like family to me and I couldn’t imagine anyone else making this dress,” the 39-year-old actress told People. “He knows and cares for the children, and it was great fun putting it together.”

Gwen Stefani Who says you can’t be pretty in pink on your wedding day? When the No Doubt frontwoman married fellow rocker Gavin Rossdale in September 2002, her gown was exactly what we would expect from a ska princess who rarely deviates from her old Hollywood bleached blonde hair and red lip beauty combo. While the long lace veil was traditional, her bold, ombre John Galliano for Dior dress was anything but. Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com 109

“Figgie creates wearable art, a one-of-a-kind fashion statement of luxury, style and individuality. These are truly original. Deborah Thomson-Kakoz is the artist behind Figgie Shoes. Since her accidental start (she started painting shoes as a favor for a friend), she has received requests from people in over 40 countries all over the globe, and regularly ships products to almost every continent. More than just a number in a mass of emails, each client is important to Deborah. Each order is equally important to her, each pair of shoes is uniquely designed for them. The Figgie team currently consists of Deborah and her husband Iven. We love connecting with people all over the world, hearing their stories and bringing them to life on shoes. The Figgie studio is currently located in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada.

One of a kind fashion statement Ballooning in Paris the entire shoe design was based on and inspired by an image she emailed me of hot air balloons flying around the Eiffel Tower.

Gatsby Inspiration These satin Kate Spade shoes were painted with a Great Gatsby theme, incorporating some favorite/personal quotes from the couple, along with their names, wedding date, a silhouette cameo of the two of them, and her wedding flowers, all tied together with a gold and black art deco feel.

Silver Heels This wedding shoe design featured details of her and her husband’s dating relationship, their names and wedding date, and a few other personal details, surrounded by a swirled heart design and topped off with a TON of bling.

#Hashtag #my wedding Sometimes it can be frustrating to wait weeks to see the results of your professional wedding pictures. With all the buzz around the day it is a lot more exciting when your friends and family start uploading photos they may have taken to Facebook or sending them to you via email. However, with a wedding of typically 50+ attendees who are likely to have their cell phones, Instagram is a quick and easy way to get multiple perspectives on your big day, and it lets your guests be involved. This allows people who were unable to make their long-distance ceremony a sneak-peek into the day and definitely gives the bride, bridesmaids, and wedding party something to look at right away when the ceremony and reception are over.

#TheHashtag:

#Lets’ start with your names. Maybe it’s sort of obvious, but let’s start with the basics. Use your first, last and nicknames as your starting point. Remember that cool name that your friends gave you guys in college that stuck for some reason? This may be the time you actually want to use it. It makes it easier for the guests to remember, which means more people will actually use it.

#Numbers will set your hashtag apart. If your names are common or you can’t come up with anything quirky, using the year or date of your wedding is an easy way to make it your own. There might be a lot of #SaraandBob in the world, but you’ll probably be the only #SaraandBob101215.

#Let’s get funny. This is one of those parts of your wedding that you can really have fun with, especially when it comes to word play. Look for rhymes or synonyms for a hashtag that’s both clever and memorable.

#Try to avoid misspellings. Read over your hashtag for any obvious ways it could be misspelled. You may want to shorten longer last names or move words around if there’s two letters in different words next to each other. Try to make your hashtag simple for guests to follow.

#Capitalize the first letter of each word. Capitalizing the first letter of each word can help with readability if guests can see where each word starts and ends. This will also make it more likely that more people will get your joke or fun name. With or without the capitalization your hashtag will work the same either way.

#Profile Your Wedding: If you are less inclined to pick a hashtag for your wedding day another option is to create a set profile that people can follow and also tag photos to. If you already have an Instagram profile, simply log out and create a new account with a title related to your wedding day. This way you will always have a spot you can go to that is solely reserved for this event.

#Handouts:

The easiest way to introduce your guests to this idea is by creating some sort of card that can be handed out prior to the ceremony that explains the concept and also notes the selected hashtag and/or profile. We would suggest something like the image below, which is just a sample mock-up of what you could do. Relaxing the morning after your wedding and looking through all of the fun photos from your special day is sure to be one memory you won’t want to miss out on. Plus, you get a bunch of great images that your photographer is sure to have missed! If you have any suggestions for other ways to use Instagram at your wedding, let us know!

G rooms

Corner 5 stages of the groom before the big day Once again we travel inside the mind of men to give you an insight. From the moment of the proposal to the big day itself…

Nervous: Even the bravest and most confident of men break a little sweat over the idea of actually

proposing to the girl they love, thinking “What if she says no?” or “What if I mess this moment up?” Yes, it is a big moment, but at the end of the day you’re going to need to say it at some point – we doubt any woman minds a few stuttered words and clammy hands that much when it comes to the man she wants to marry!

Happiness: She said yes! You’ve overcome the nervousness and popped that special question – and she said YES. YES! Let the celebrations begin…

Confusion: Wait, what is this ‘Pinterest’ thing she’s doing on her laptop right now? Why has she just got a load of photographs of other people’s weddings? What theme is she even going for here? I can’t work it out, and she can’t be planning to wear ALL those different dresses, can she?

Shock: You’ve just got a glimpse of the to-do list and you’re struggling to pick your jaw

off the floor… This whole wedding planning thing seems a bit excessive, doesn’t it? I mean, do we really need to do ALL that stuff? What even is a canapé? And what is the difference between a debossed wedding invitation and an embossed one? And then there’s the cost of it all…

Excitement: Okay, the wedding planning is well on its way and it’s going smoother than I

thought it would. The fianceé has given me tasks where I actually understand the words! Next stop: asking my best friends if they’ll be my groomsmen, and to plan a day of getting suited and booted for the big day.

The official guide to

being a great groom

We often hear about how women prepare for their wedding, but what do men need to do? It’s important that they get involved and not just sit back and wait until the big day comes!

Pitch in for the Big Three You know the 80/20 rule, right? Basically, 80% of wedding costs will come from 20% of the decisions. So the trick is to help your fiancée with the right 20%, which means pitching in on the Big Three: the guest list, the date, the venue. There is no need to take control of these areas, but helping out can save a lot of money.

Have an opinion This is your wedding too, so get in on the planning. Pick a few things that interest you such as food, the music, or maybe even the flowers – who knows!

Have your gifts ready It’s common for the groom to buy a gift for the best man, so this duty falls to YOU. Some grooms also buy a gift for the bride to open on the morning of the wedding. If you do this, be careful in buying any kind of jewelry as your fiancée will have chosen the accessories she will wear on the day well in advance.

GROOMS

Emergency Kit!

A lot of emphasis is always placed on emergency kits for the bride, and for good reason. In the event of a ripped dress or broken heel, a sewing kit and super glue would seriously come in handy. Most people don’t talk about emergency kits for the groom, which can also come in handy! Check out some of the great items that can be placed in a Groom’s Emergency Kit and given to him before the big day.

Repair Supplies Just like the bride needs “damage control” items in the event of rips and tears, the groom can certainly use them as well. A few things that can be included are a sewing kit for quick rip fixes, super glue, tape and/or double sided tape, safety pins, scissors, and extra buttons. With these items, the groom can quickly take care of any ensemble problems!

Hygiene Supplies There has never been a more important day to look great, smell great and feel great so additional hygiene supplies can certainly come in handy. Items like toothpaste and a toothbrush, cologne, deodorant, a comb, floss, hairspray or gel, a razor and shaving cream, contact lens solution and eye drops, and breath mints are all great additions to a groom’s emergency kit.

Medical Supplies Hopefully the groom won’t have need of any serious medical supplies on the big day, but some supplies can help deal with small problems like cuts, mosquito bites (these might happen during an outdoor wedding), etc. Pack items like Band-Aids, Neosporin, hand sanitizer, antacids, Tylenol or Advil, etc.

Snacks The groom will have a lot to do on the big day, from getting dressed to helping make sure all of the arrangements are in place and ready to go. Sometimes, this can mean that eating gets pushed to the back burner. Snacks that will help the groom keep his energy up can be helpful. Protein bars or granola bars, bottled water, crackers, and similar snacks are great items to pack in the groom’s emergency kit.

Additional Items In addition to these helpful supplies, the groom may have need of other items for his emergency kit, or you may want to add in extra items if you’re offering this kit for a gift. Small bottles of alcohol are funny additions and may help calm a groom’s nerves before the ceremony, more comfortable clothing for the reception can be helpful, especially in warmer weather, extra clothing or stain remover can be helpful in case of spills, etc. Simply add in anything you feel would be beneficial. An emergency kit for the groom can not only be a fantastic and thoughtful gift, but it may just end up coming in handy as well!

Choose a suitable outfit Whatever you choose, discuss it with your fiancée first. This is particularly important for any areas where you are introducing color, such as your tie. Your fiancée may want to make sure it fits with the overall color scheme of the wedding.

Give her a break If she’s doing the majority of the planning for your wedding, she’s probably bordering on wedding overload. Give her a night to relax, cook her dinner, do the dishes, rent her favorite movie and remind her why wedding planning is worth all the stress!

Manage your men Ensure you pick a friend you can trust to be responsible for bringing your ring to the ceremony. Your guys don’t have to be saints, but they will have responsibilities, and it’s your job to make sure they know what they are.

Get sentimental The day of your wedding, send her a gift, flowers, or a sweet note to read while she’s getting ready. Alternatively, at the reception, pull the videographer aside and tape a special message to her. She’ll see it later and we promise, she’ll love you all the more.

Real Florida

Weddings

From the bride:

Dave &

{Claudia } 120 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

This day was so emotional for both us . Dave and I have been through a roller coaster romance. We have been together for a combination of 17 years and we are looking forward to a 100 more years. We met working at Dan Marino’s Restaurant on Las Olas located in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Dave was the Executive Chef and I was bartending at the time. The connection was electric. When we decided to get married after being together for so many years we obviously wanted it to be perfect. The venue and the photographer were very important to us. We got lucky when we found Rosina and Flávio. To say they met all our expectations and then some is an understatement. They knew exactly what we were looking for and they knew exactly how to capture our precious memories. We are forever grateful to them and their amazingly talented staff.

“Vintage Classic Fair

Cross Creek Ranch, Florida

Photography by: Flavio and Rosina Studios

Claudia and Dave are a dynamic couple that truly made their wedding day their own! They had a vintage classic flair. Dave kept to his true self with blue jeans and cowboy boots and Claudia’s dress was hand sewn from her Grandmother… with vintage lace included. It is so obvious that they are very much in love. There was so much attention to detail including an itinerary that made for a very unique wedding. The guests had a sampling of Alligator Sausage, bon fire smores, and home made country cooking! Ultimate Fashion Week Cheat Sheet

Sorting through all of the looks from all of the shows from different cities can feel something like a marathon. We’ve analyzed the best collections from New York, London, Milan, and Paris bringing you the trends that make the biggest impact on our wardrobes this fall.

{

World of Interiors

Designers pulled from a world of interiors for fall, referencing fabrics and motifs that usually find their home in a chic living room. At Tory Burch, prints reminiscent of Moroccan rugs stole the show, while in London the likes of Erdem, Mary Katrantzou, and Marques ‘ Almeida gave a fresh new look to stately brocades.

{

The Floor-Duster Coat Last season’s statement coat trend has legs for fall, quite literally, and hemlines on the most eye-catching outerwear tumbled to the floor at Dries Van Noten, Calvin Klein Collection, and Chanel. Unless you stand over six feet tall in stockinged feet, then pulling off the look will require some towering heels.

Patchwork Lest you think we were done with the seventies—well, we’re not. Just look at the patchworked textures at Etro, Chloé, or Valentino, where mixed media made for a truly big impact.

{

A Touch of Fur

{

The monster furs that percolated on the street style blogosphere this winter were chopped and screwed for fall, and pieces of mink, fox, and Mongolian lamb fur were collaged onto everything from prim doublebreasted coats at Prada to evening dresses at Proenza Schouler.

122 Florida Bride Fall/Winter 2015 ♥ www.florida-bride.com

the essentials...

Eighties Redux

{

It started in New York with Rodarte’s unabashedly glitzy sequin cocktail dresses, and when Jonathan Anderson showed his J.W.Anderson collection, inspired by Berlin club kids who partied before the fall of the Wall, it seemed that the glam good-times look of the eighties was officially on its way back. Bold and brash Memphis colors surfaced on the runway at Bottega Veneta too.

{

The Statement White Blouse There’s something so alluring about the deceptive simplicity of a white blouse. From high, Victorian frilled collars at Altuzarra to waiter-inspired bow ties at Chanel, from ruffled sleeves at Michael Kors to sheer thrills at Rodarte, the runways were full of reasons to go back and embrace a classic.

{

{

Eastern Influence

From dragons unfurling down the front of a gown at Valentino to crimson columns of lace at Alexander McQueen, straight at Diane von Furstenberg, embroidered at Roberto Cavalli and limitless amounts of gold from Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, and Oscar de la Renta the runways were awash in Chinese influence this season.

Shine On

The real emphasis was on shine: whether in skinny knife pleats or longer fluid styles from Loewe, netted separates at Dior or sequins at Nina Ricci. And really, what better way to make a statement in the new season?
