A core mission of the Fielding Clinical Psychology program is to foster inclusion of students from under-represented populations. These populations include students living in small communities, rural, or remote locations of the United States, students currently in the military or spouses of military members, adult learners with families, and students
whose ongoing participation in their current communities cannot be halted for doctoral study elsewhere. These are
student populations who are often unable to enter the field through preparation at a traditional university campus, yet these are the future psychologists for which the discipline and profession has expressed an urgent need.
Four Goals We have four specific aims for our students, which must be achieved by the time of graduation.

Students will demonstrate doctoral-level discipline specific knowledge that represents the scientific and theoretical knowledge areas of the discipline of psychology (i.e., history and systems of psychology and the affective, biological, cognitive, developmental, and social bases of behavior).

Students will demonstrate doctoral-level conceptualization, evaluation, analysis, and integration of discipline-specific knowledge across the curriculum.

Students will demonstrate doctoral-level ability to understand and critique research; design, conduct, analyze, and communicate theoretically informed research; and
conduct research in a manner that is culturally sensitive and consistent with legal code and ethical standards, including the APA ethics code.

Students will demonstrate doctoral-level competence in the professionwide competencies, including conducting evidence-based diagnosis,
assessment, and psychotherapy; and applying theory and research to develop case
conceptualizations, treatment plans, and interventions that are consistent with legal and ethical standards and
individual and cultural diversity factors.

PROGRAM TIMELINE The program can be completed in 5-6 years, but not in less than 5 years. The program is fulltime, requiring at least 35- 40 hours per week of school-related work. In addition, there are in-person residency requirements which include attendance at session (6 days), professional development seminars (PDS), and other requirements. See page 10 for details. The doctoral program is set up to be completed in 5-6 years. Whether a student graduates in five or six years

CLINICAL PRACTICUM The Director of Clinical Practicum Training helps students locate appropriate clinical practicum sites. Students
who live in a rural area or regions of the country with a lack of licensed psychologists to serve as supervisors, may
need to commute, or even move, in order to accrue clinical practicum hours. Clinical practicum consists of a total of at least 1,520 hours and prepares the student for the internship.
NOTE: Students living in Alaska and Hawaii need to document availability of acceptable practicum sites and contact the Program Director, Dr. Marilyn Freimuth, at mfreimuth@fielding.edu before applying.
CLINICAL INTERNSHIP Clinical internship is the final component of clinical training and is a 40-50 hour per week commitment for 12 months. Most interns are paid a stipend, at an average of $26,000 per year.
Students participate in the APPIC MATCH system (www.appic.org) in the fall of their third or fourth year
in order to obtain an approved internship the following summer. Students are expected to apply to at least 15
internship sites in order to ensure placement. Students need to be prepared to commute or change residence in order to obtain an accredited internship. You can click here to see what sites are available in your area.

The Clinical Psychology doctorate program begins once each year, in the fall term.
In order to be considered for the fall 2021 term, your application needs to be completed by February 3, 2021. ALL required documents and materials need to be received by the deadline.
Admission Requirements Applicants for the Clinical Psychology PhD program must have: • A conferred bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited US college or university or an equivalent international degree (international degrees require a formal equivalency report by an approved U.S. evaluation agency, for more information visit: https://www.fielding.edu/how- to-apply/international-applicants/)
• A minimum undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, or the equivalent from a college or university that
does not use letter grades, or a GPA of 3.0 or higher based on at least one year full-time in a graduate program at a regionally accredited US college or university • Coursework in psychology
Applicants for the Clinical Psychology PhD program strongly benefit from having: • Supervised experience in a helper role; this may be as a volunteer or therapist in a counseling or clinical setting • Course work in Research Methods and Statistics, and experience with psychological research through coursework and/or as a research assistant
Applicants for the Respecialization Certificate in Clinical Psychology must have: • A PhD or PsyD in a non-clinical area of psychology from an accredited institution.

TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID The main source of financial aid for Fielding students is through federal student loans. Our financial aid department can assist you with the process of applying for financial aid. Please call 800-340-1099, select option 4, and schedule an appointment. Tuition is charged per term, independent of the number of credits taken. For current tuition information, please visit Fielding.edu/TuitionFees.
Costs of attending national sessions, PDS, books, etc. are not included in tuition. Attending a residential session
can average $1,500 per session, but varies depending on where one lives, and other similar factors. The budget for transportation to PDS and practicum, books, computer upkeep can average $275/month ($3,300/year).

TRANSFER CREDIT POLICY The program’s Transfer Credit Policy allows for a transfer up to 12 graduate credits into the PhD program. Transfer credit decisions are made once an applicant has been admitted into the program. General Course Qualifications:
• Courses must be taken in a master's or doctoral program from the psychology department of a regionally accredited college, university, or professional school. In general, such courses have been assigned a PSY prefix to the course number. • Courses must be taken within the past five years. • Grades in the courses must be B or better.
• The course content must be judged equivalent to a current course in the Fielding Psychology Program curriculum by meeting similar learning objectives.
NOTE: Courses that are primarily applied, rather than Academic in nature, are unlikely to meet these criteria. Thus, the course needs to include assignments/activities that foster a critical analysis of your learning.
• There must be at least one scholarly paper. Assessment solely by exams is not sufficient.
• A significant portion of the readings need to come from primary sources (reading authors and research articles in the original). • These transfer units can only be applied as credit for courses numbered PSY 702, 703, 705-708, 711B, 712. The rules and procedures for determining transfer credits are as follows:
• Transfer credits will only be awarded at the time of admission to the graduate program. There will be no retroactive granting of transfer credits for students currently in the program.
• Transfer credits must be requested by incoming students upon submission of enrollment materials.
• Decisions regarding transfer of credits will be made by the Clinical Psychology Program Director and processed by the Records Office.
• Incoming students will be informed of decisions regarding transfer credit requests at or before the New Student Orientation in Santa Barbara.
The following are suggested ways of determining if the course being considered for transfer credit is comparable to our core knowledge area assessments:
• What textbooks and/or readings have been required for the course? The books and readings should be scholarly and at graduate level. Please provide full citations.
• Did the course require scholarly writing? Graduate level classes assess learning through written papers. Courses that assess learning primarily through a combination of discussion, brief essays, and/or multiple choice tests, do not transfer. • To what extent did the course include theory and research? Many courses proposed for transfer credits are applied in nature and, thus, do not reflect the level of conceptual scholarship required in doctoral level classes.

The following guidelines pertain to requests for transfer credit for specific courses: • Developmental Bases of Behavior (PSY 702) - The most common reason for not granting transfer credits in this area is because the coursework did not take a lifespan approach and focused only on one stage of development, e.g., childhood.
• History and Systems (PSY 703) - This knowledge area focuses on the philosophical underpinnings of psychology as reflected in historical theories and models. A historical approach to a specific topic (e.g., behavior modification) is not sufficient.
• Social Bases of Behavior (PSY 705) - In order to receive transfer credit, coursework must cover multiple topics in social psychology, e.g., attitudes, prejudice, group behavior, person perception.
• Cognitive and Affective Bases of Behavior (PSY 706) - Students may erroneously believe that coursework in cognitive therapy is appropriate for this area, but it is not.
• Biological Bases of Behavior (PSY 707) -This should be a relatively sophisticated course in physiological psychology. • Psychopathology (PSY 708) - The coursework should include a critical examination of diagnostic systems and also deal with issues in psychopathology.
• Psychotherapy Research (PSY 711B) - Coursework must include content that focuses on the nature and process of psychotherapy as well as research and evaluation of psychotherapy. A course on a specific model of psychotherapy or research methods is not acceptable.
• Multicultural Psychology (PSY 712) - Note that this area refers to the general topic of multicultural concepts and issues, not just intervening therapeutically with specific ethnic groups.

State Licensing Each state in the U.S. has its own licensing requirements for doctoral level clinical psychologists and respecialization students. We strongly encourage you to become fully educated on the licensing requirements of the state(s) where you wish to pursue
licensure as a doctoral level clinical psychologist. Each state has a state licensing board and we encourage you to contact this board for more information.
Special note for students who wish to pursue licensure in Oklahoma Currently, graduates from Fielding’s PhD in Clinical Psychology program do not meet the state licensing requirements in Oklahoma. Please contact the licensing board of this state for more details. Therefore, we do not accept applications from
students who plan on pursuing licensure in this state. However, if you currently reside in Oklahoma, but plan to not pursue licensure in this state, you are welcome to apply to the program.

Ordering Transcripts General Information:
1. We require receipt of official transcripts from:
a. The college which conferred your undergraduate degree.
b. The college(s) where you pursued any graduate education (1 or more courses)
2. If you are currently in the completion phase of a graduate degree, please have your school send us an in-progress official transcript.
3. Any and all education you list in your online application will require an official transcript.
4. Transcripts submitted by fax are considered unofficial and unfortunately will not allow us to submit your file for review by the Admissions Committee.
5. An application file is not considered complete and unable to be sent for review by the Admissions Committee until we have received all official transcripts and letters of recommendation.
How/Where to have your school(s) submit an official transcript for you:
1. Electronic submission: Digital submission typically happens through services such as Parchment or E-scrip: Your school(s) may use this digital submission of official transcripts. If your school has this as an option, we recommend you use it. If you choose the digital submission route, indicate you would like the Official Transcript sent to apply@fielding.edu.

If your degree was obtained outside of the U.S., an International Transcript Evaluation is required. The process entails ordering an International Transcript Evaluation that lists each course with grades and a cumulative GPA, generally called a “course by
course” evaluation. You will provide an original transcript to the evaluation service according to their process, and request that they send the evaluation directly to Fielding. We accept evaluations from the following services: • International Education Research Foundation (IERF) • World Education Services (WES)

Letters of Recommendation At least one or more recommendations should be from an academic source, i.e. a former professor. In the application, you will include the first and last name of each recommender along with their email address. When you
click the save button, an email notification will be immediately sent to the recommender requesting they write a letter of recommendation for you as well as instructions on how to return the Letter of Recommendation to Fielding.
The email will indicate Office of Admissions as the sender and will come from admissions@fielding.edu. If your recommenders use a spam-blocking tool, please ask them to add this email to their list of known/safe addresses.
Be sure to check in with your recommenders to ensure the email notification was received. If you need the email notification resent please contact an Admissions Advisor for assistance, (805) 898-4026 or admissions@fielding.edu.

87% of our postbac certificate graduates are accepted into an APA accredited PhD program, including Fielding’s PhD in Clinical Psychology program. To help students keep their professional goals in sight, Fielding offers a
Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Psychology. This one year, 7-course certificate program strengthens the student’s position as an applicant.
Our unique postbaccalaureate certificate program prepares you to be
(1) a competitive applicant to clinical psychology PhD programs and (2) a successful doctoral student.
You will work closely with faculty in our APA accredited clinical psychology PhD program to master the knowledge and skills needed to enter and succeed in a clinical psychology doctoral program. These include:
