PLUM CAKE PLUM CAKE PLUM CAKE

Ingredients required: 100 gm sugar 2 egg, 2 drops vanilla essence , 1 teaspoon dry yeast , 120 gm flour , 120 gm butter , 5 gm baking powder , 1 large baking tin , 80 gm raisins , 30 gm walnuts , 40 gm chopped dried figs , 150 ml red wine , 30gm chopped cashews , 120 gm tutti frutti , 40 gm chopped black dates , 100 ml black rum

Procedure to make :

Step 1

Chop and soak the nuts

Cut the figs, dates and cashew nuts into small pieces, and soak them along with the raisins and tutti fruity in the rum, red wine and beer (this is normally done 20 25 days in advance so that the dry fruits absorbs all the spirits). Also, soak dry yeast in water for 2 3 hours before the preparation of the cake.

Step 2 Prepare the batter

Mix the butter and sugar along and beat the vanilla essence in it. Add in the eggs gradually to the vanilla essence mixture and mixing all the while Then fold in the flour sifted with baking powder and mix in all the soaked ingredients.

Step 3 Prepare a baking tin

Grease a 1 kg baking tin with butter and sprinkle a little flour on the surface. Then place a sheet of paraffin paper on the bottom, and pour the cake batter into the tin. Bake the cake at 160 degree Celsius for about 20 25 minutes Take out the cake from the mould and leave aside to cool it down.

Step 4 Prepare the icing

For the royal icing, make sure the egg whites are at room temperature before beginning. In a clean and dry bowl, place the egg whites, powdered sugar, and yeast Using a hand whisk, beat all together on low speed until combined. Then stop the whisk and scrape down the sides of the bowl. Now, beat the mixture on medium speed until it turns very thick, shiny, stiff and white. The whole process should take not more than 7 10 minutes.

Step 5 Pour the icing

Check the texture to ensure that it is suitable for your needs. If you require a stiffer icing, add a little more powdered sugar at this point. Pour the icing on the cake and leave it to dry.

Step 6

Your cake is ready

If you want to add any decorative pieces to your cake, do that before the icing dries. Your Rich Plum Cake is ready to be served. Do try this recipe, rate it and let us know in the comments how it turned out to be

Ingredients required: 200 grams dark chocolate (64 72% cocoa) , 200 grams digestive biscuits, 125 grams heavy cream , 25 grams agave nectar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 5 teaspoons cognac (or brandy)

Procedure to make: Step One

Chop your chocolate and roughly break up your biscuits and set aside in 2 separate bowls (use a large bowl for the biscuits). heat up the cream in a small saucepan with the sugar syrup (do not boil) Step Two

Place the small saucepan in a larger pan of almost boiling water (like a double boiler or bain marie) and add the chopped dark chocolate and stir until melted Step Three

Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract and cognac and stir and pour over the broken biscuits stirring constantly until all biscuits are covered in chocolate Step Four

* If using a silicone loaf mould or silicone cupcake / mini cake mould, pour your warm mixture directly inside, pack the mixture down with a spoon and tap on your counter to eliminate air bubbles *

* If using a rigid loaf mould or cake pan, line the mould with plastic film first, then pour in the mixture and pat down and tap on your counter*

Step Five

Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for 1 hour, for the cream mixture to partly seep into the biscuits, then place Inside your freezer for several hours until firm Step Six

Remove from mould when frozen (to conserve its shape) and transfer to the refrigerator 15 minutes before slicing and serving

As we age, the pigment cells in our hair follicles gradually die. When there are fewer pigment cells, that strand of hair will no longer contain much melanin becoming a more transparent color like grey, silver, or white as it grows.

Most people start developing grey in their late forties. It typically begins as a few stray strands and gradually increases to cover large

areas of the hair over time. Definition wise it’s called premature greying only if it occurs before the age of 25 in both men and women.

Q. What causes grey hair?

Genetics determines hair color. It turns out hundreds of genes influence hair color. Similarly, if either of your parents had premature grey hair, it is very likely to notice your early greying too.

Oxidative stress is the imbalance between your body's antioxidants and free radicals. The accumulated large number of free radicals damages the cells and leads to premature greying. Factors like exposure to environmental aggressors, smoking, and high alcohol consumption, increase your risk of long-term oxidative stress.

Nutritional deficiency due to an imbalanced diet that lacks essential vitamins like B, D, E, and Biotin, minerals like calcium, copper, iron, & zinc, and protein affects the pigmentation in your hair, leading it to turn grey. Certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, can increase a person's risk of premature greying because of melanin deficiency.

Q. Any other factors that may contribute to grey hair?

Research reveals that geography, race, and ethnicity also influence greying. Lifestyle also has a major role to play.

Q. Can stress cause grey hair?

Emotional stresses are believed to deplete the stem cells in follicles, which, in turn, results in premature greying. As per a recent study by Columbia University, researchers found that actively destressing could bring color vitality back to grey hairs.

Q. Are there grey hair treatments?

There are no permeant treatments that are proven to treat or reverse grey hair though some marketers on the internet claim. But maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a balanced, nutritious diet and lowstress levels helps restore natural hair color. Oral supplements with calcium pantothenate and topical solutions with melatonin have some role in delaying further greying.

Myth #1: Plucking one grey hair will lead to more greying in that area. There is no scientific proof of this.

Myth #2: You can go grey overnight. False; as discussed, it is a gradual process.

Myth #3: Coloring your hair causes greys is false because hair follicles sit under the skin and are rarely damaged by colors.

Myth #4: Most of the time, people believe that greying hair is the effect of washing their hair too often or applying the wrong shampoo. However, washing hair with harsh shampoo can result in permanent damage to the follicle, which can result in no hair growing back.
