ZOMATO'S ZOMALAND - THE GREAT FOOD CARNIVAL OF HYDERABAD

Back from a two year hiatus, the food and entertainment festival 'Zomaland', held on 21st and 22nd January, was filled with a wide range of delectable treats and entertaining activities. The Zomato event hosted at the GMR Arena, Shamshabad, with an impressive artists line-up, hyped the attendees. The festival featured performances by well-known artists such as King, Anuv Jain, The Yellow Diary, Rahul Dua, Dikshant, and Zaeden among others. It had an incredible and varied selection of food exhibitors from appetizers to savory to desserts, including some of the city's most well-known restaurants and food trucks. The 60 stall expansion, harboring multiple cuisines, included some prominent vendor's - Hyderabad's beloved Paradise, Ram Ki Bandi, Haiku, La Pinoz Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings, Skippis, Pop O' Bop - Bubble Tea Cafe, Conçu and more. The two-day event, described by Hyderabadi foodies and bloggers as "The Greatest Food Carnival of Hyderabad," sold out tickets two days before the event, promising the carnival's exuberant mood. One among the visitors was, @vaishnavi_ranna (instagram), who took to instagram, 'A night to remember! ' with a couple of pictures of her at the event. The fete wasn't missed by top Hyderabadi food bloggers either, with digital creator Mahi Tatavarty of @thefoodandplateaffair (instagram), posting a reel captioning, 'What a magic it was at @zomaland �� Loved the vibe, food, music and it was so much fun yday <33' encapsulating the vibe of the carnival.

I don’t believe that there a set formula for success If one wants to be successful in today’s work environment, across the industries, then they would have to constantly keep evolving and be open to change

What do you do in your free time?

My free time is actually the most productive time of my life, because it’s dedicated towards helping the species that cannot help themselves, and I mean my never ending unconditional love for stray dogs and my passion to find them Forster homes And btw I learned to love unconditional from them.

Which is your favorite place in India and abroad where you would like to travel?

Domestically without even a grain of doubt

Himachal and Sikkim However, the lazy bug I am, I have stopped travelling much overseas, given an opportunity I wouldn’t mind visiting any place with mountains For now, I am happy with India.

What inspires and motivates you?

I wish I could look beyond my parents and sister for inspiration, these people are enough for me to work and serve the society even if I go to live on for 1000 years Motivation is the greed to spend what I earn on the next mountain destination

The revamped version of farzi café is as good as the one before. If you and your partner are fond of fusion food and drinks this is your place. We were invited for a pleasurable experience by Avoca Salon The interiors were quite impressive with pastel hues and comfortable velvet furniture providing a calming and luxurious experience. We went in for the basic haircut, pedicure and nails. The hair technicians were quite skilled and poured in their recommendations for what would look good on our face type which helped make the decision easier. The final output gave a great bounce and volume to the hair while the curtain bangs added an element of style to the entire look.

Then we moved on to the self-pampering session of pedicure and nails The staff who did the pedicure were friendly and knew their job well, the ambience of the place made it even better. When the time came to choose the colour/pattern for the nails, we were spoiled for choice. They have an assortment of colour pallets to choose from. The style we wanted was executed to perfection by the nail technicians. The quality of the product and service matters and this is offered by Avoca at pocket-friendly prices. The floral interior sections of the salon were very picturesque that made us click photographs of our nails with that beautiful background.

With a 4.9/5 rating on Google, even the customers think Avoca is a bespoke salon experience to behold.

Telangana Spice Kitchen specializes in traditional Indian dishes from the southern region and is known for its flavorful and spicy food All these places would be great options for a dinner with your girl gang. It’s that time of the year again when expressions of affection and love fill the air. As we delve into the Valentine’s month, it brings along with it an imminent arrival of all things red and pink, flowers, chocolate boxes, champagne, an overdose of heart-eye emojis and the usual. Although, with a change in the times each year, people’s approach towards this day has also changed, some having a more adventurous plan for the day, like wanting to try a sport that gives them an adrenaline boost; some wanting a tranquil getaway for spiritual purposes; signing up for fun, quirky classes together; or just spending the day with people in desperate need of some love, like old age homes or orphanages or pet homes. Valentine’s Day is all about spreading love and a day when you can take your relationship and turn it into something special. If you’re not in a relationship, then spend your time with your close friends and do something special for them. After all, there is no love purer than friendship.

Valentine’s Day is historically celebrated in the name of a certain mysterious patron, Saint Valentine. There are a ton of legends surrounding who he was and how this day came to be, but boy, are we glad that it somehow came into existence! SHIVANI AND FARHAD

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

Well, we’re not BIG on the whole Valentine’s Day thing but maybe we’re gonna do a cute lunch or a dinner date like every year.

How did you two first meet?

We met 11 years ago at a party. I was 18 and I guess he was around 22. We had a LOT of mutual friends so that’s how we saw each other for the first time at a party. These Sundowners were pretty happening back then at Aqua and both of us coincidentally met with the same set of friends. Then a couple of months later he tried getting my number from our mutuals, succeeded and we started talking.

How do you feel as a power couple?

Power couple? Are we? Haha! We don’t consider ourselves to be one. We’re the MOST introverted, doing our own thing sort of people. But if people think we are a “power couple”, I hope we set an example to many who are in a similar inter-religion situation like ours and are trying to figure out a way to overcome certain obstacles like we did.

What are some things you do to keep your relationship growing?

I think it takes a LOT more than just love to keep a relationship good & growing. I think we’ve learnt to agree to disagree on most of the things most of the time & give each other our space when needed. We do have arguments like every other couple, but we also try to make it a point to not carry it on to the next day. “Never go to bed angry or upset” is our one rule of thumb.

Shivani, what was your first impression of Farhad when you first met him?

Mm.. I don’t remember to be honest! It’s been 10 years now. But as far as I remember my first impression was, WHAT A GENUINE GUY! He never fronted to be something or someone else since day 1 and I think that’s what impressed me the most. He’s always been true to his own personality regardless of who likes it or not. And I think that’s what is charming about him.. He doesn’t have to try to impress.

With both of you having a busy schedule how do you find time to spend exclusively with each other?

We don’t try too hard to give each other time. We’ve known our schedules for too long now and have moulded ourselves accordingly. My work is mainly during the wedding season and I’m free doing things at home on the other days. And his work is mainly during the day. So we’re free and together by evening, and have a lot of time to spend with each other.

Farhad, what quality of Shivani made you fall for her?

It’s the way she cares for her people. She can go to any extent to do anything for the people she genuinely loves and cares for. She has very few friends but all of them are very authentic and she wouldn’t think twice to be there for them when they need her. I used to study in IBS, far from the city, and she’d come visit me every weekend and bring me my favourite things or my favourite food so I wouldn’t feel homesick, all the way. That’s one thing that made me fall hard for her, the way she cared for me always, till date. Apart from how gorgeous she is, of course.

Are there any changes in the two of your after marriage?

Oh, yes! We’ve become a lot more responsible about things and have a practical approach towards life now. I mean, he’s always been that way but me a little more than I was before. Life automatically gets serious and put you on track after marriage.

One memory from the wedding that will stay with you forever?

Oh, the whole wedding in itself was memorable for us cos we had a lot of hurdles to overcome to make it happen the way it did. It’s a DREAM COME TRUE for us! But that one thing for me I think is my Mehendi, when he came home with his entire family the first time. That’s when it ACTUALLY hit me like a truck that I was really marrying him after everything we’ve been through, good and bad. I cried too! Haha! And for Farhad I think that one memory is when he first saw me in my saree for the Telugu Wedding.

Shivani, what is the best thing Farhad has told you till date?

Farhad is a man of actions more than words. And that’s what matters to me the most! He doesn’t say it, he just proves it with his gestures and the the things he does for me. And he’s done a lot over these years time and again to show me how much he loves and cares for me. But the best thing he’s told me so far was that he wanted to marry me and he’d do anything to make it happen. And he did make it happen!

What are your plans this Valentines day?

We are sure we will end up at a fancy place enjoying a lavish candle light dinner while we adore each other & count our blessings. We love dressing up & feasting on that scrumptious food I mean, Come on its ZAZU

How did you two first meet each other?

Haha.. Long story short, I saw Zara's tik tok videos on my dad's WhatsApp status multiple times. This was during the 1st lockdown when the whole country was sitting at home and spending most of the time on phone. I was really curious to know who exactly is this pretty girl on my dad's phone. I then searched for her online and found her Insta profile. The rest is a beautiful history.

How do you feel as a power couple?

While the traditional “power couple” relationship appears effortless, this is an impossible standard for many. In reality, relationships are like joint projects where both us have to put consistent dedication in everything we do for our self or for the society. While we totally enjoy the special attention of a power couple, we also feel it's our job & responsibility to keep things raw, real & positive for our followers.

What are some things you do to keep your relationship growing?

There are a lot of things we do as a couple to keep our relationship strong and going. Cuddling more often, expressing love & appreciation, having a new experience every now and then, solving problems together, more empathy towards each other. These are some of the things we do, but the most effective way to keep our relation growing has to be spending time with each other. No matter how busy we have been we tend to take out time for each other. We do activities that only involve the two of us. Relationships need nurturing and work to become strong and remain strong. So we hang out more, eat dinner together, plan date nights, and we feel more connected.

Zara, what was your first impression of Zubair when you first met him?

The impression was "FOOD LOVER" haha ��. I knew i was meeting the top most food blogger of Hyderabad but i didn't knew he was literally this big of a food influencer. His followers base & fan following reflected in Mumbai as well. That took me by surprise. But his honesty, maturity & patience is what impressed me the most.

With both of you having a busy schedule how do you find time to spend exclusively with each other?

It's the perfect balance between work and personal life I guess. No matter how busy we are the whole day with shoots, food sessions, attending events, meetings etc, we make it a mandate to spend time with each other. Its a habit now and its very essential for every couple.

Zubair, what quality of Zara made you fall for her?

Her pretty and charming face lifts up my whole day. Lucky to have a beautiful wife. But her down to earth nature and simplicity was something that bowled me over. She is a no fuss girl. Her priorities are straight and she is content. If She loves something she does that with all her heart. There wont be any confusion. Either she loves or she doesn’t. But, she needs her own time before she commits to anything. The way she does the little things for me, the way she is always there beside me, the way she argues with me over my wrong habits and the way she never forgets to show her love is very a special thing to me.

Tell us something about you guys as a couple that nobody else knows

Sometimes we talk to each other in funny voices just to annoy or laugh. Also we do a lot of butt slapping around the house to annoy each other. Every time we walk past each other we slap butt in a nonchalant way haha ��

One memory from the wedding that will stay with you forever ?

ZARA: It all felt like a dream ! The big day was actually happening after all the drama, family meetings, shopping, arrangements etc.. The moment we held our hands & walked towards the car after our wedding was over, its then reality came knocking. We smiled at each other coz its then we realised that we were officially married & about to start a new beginning. That was surreal.

ZUBAIR: For me it has to be 2 things.

1. When I saw Zara dressed up as a bride & she was walking towards to the stage. I was just staring at her in awe. Those moments are still fresh in my memory & i guess its never gonna fade out.

2. Post Wedding Photoshoot at a star property that went on till 3AM in the morning haha. That was really fun! We both influencers were in our element killing it !

What is the one thing that you will never compromise on in marriage?

Loyalty ! It's a big thing in today's fast pace world. It is easy to find a partner and tough to stick together. We feel blessed to have each other who totally understand how important loyalty is in a relation.

In other words, loyalty means sincerely choosing your partner and your relationship every single time, through thick and thin, in sickness and in health instead of considering your relationship as just an alternative refuge when everything else in your life isn’t going well. Love from your heart and stay loyal. Trust me! Any relationship would be a huge success, and your life would be happier than ever.

What are your plans this Valentines day?

I am actually going to be in India where Abi lives just for 10 days and then I’m back to the US, where I work. I actually have a big meeting on the 14th so we will probably just do nothing and hang out in our new home and just watch a movie, our fav thing to do That said, Abi is the planner between the both of us and is always full of surprises so I’m sure he will whip up something in that creative mind of his ❤

How did you two first meet each other?

Abi and I apparently met at my sister’s wedding but at least I have no memory of it. He is my brother in law’s best friend so he came down from the US for a couple days. We even have a picture together which I have no memory of. I used to tease him that he wasn’t worth remembering but look at how things turned out. Total 180! After that though , he kept dm-ing me on Instagram for days. I don’t really respond to people I don’t know but I did coz of the association. We got to talking about tech stuff and I was like “hmm…doesn’t seem dumb.” We met 6 months later in person since and here we are.

How do you feel as a power couple?

We don’t think like of ourselves as a power couple. We are both very ambitious and are still paving our respective paths. Both of support each other a 100%. Professionally, we are in different phases. Abi is in a start up environment , hustling and the I work for a more established company, Granules India Limited , trying to help take it to the next level. What both of want to do in life though is to carve our own path to success vs what is expected of us and hope that we are able to inspire at least one person, one day.

What is the quirkiest factor you like about each other?

Not quirky per say but both of us are children at heart. When we don’t have to adult, we act like 5 year old kids. I think it’s important to keep the child in you, alive.

What are some things you do to keep your relationship growing?

Abhinav- Travel for sure!! Even With our busy schedules we always try and travel a lot and that opens up avenues for new adventures. We have travelled to about 10 countries so far and have a long roster of countries we are travelling to this year!!

Priyanka, what was your first impression of Abhinav when you first met him?

“Jesus- this guy needs to dress better!” He wore gym clothes on our first date and looked so unkempt!!!! That obviously changed now but the reason why we had a second date was because he is such a perfect guy- he’s very empathetic, super optimistic, very pure, family oriented and is a hustler.

If you could change one thing about each other what would it be?

We’re still learning about each other but to be honest, nothing. He is everything I wanted and more . That said, I will get him to exercise more though! I come from a family that is all about physical fitness; more more mental reasons because everybody in my family is on the go, all the time. You need to be mentally fit to do that and physical fitness is a big part of it.

Abhinav- She is more capable than she thinks. Just believe more!!

With both of you having a busy schedule how do you find time to spend exclusively with each other?

Both of us work in different countries! I work in the US and Abi works in India. We try to meet every couple weeks in a different destination- this fulfills our love for travel and we get to spend time with each other, albeit just for 2-3 days at a time. When we are in India together, we shut off our phones at night and just hang out at home watching movies and eating. A lot. That’s our fav thing to do.

Abhinav, what quality of Priyanka made you fall for her?

She is all heart and one of the nicest person I have met. She has a big heart!! And we need more Priyanka’s in the world.

Are there any changes in the two of you after marriage?

We’re only a month and a half into our marriage so, I don’t think so. Maybe when I move back to India….ugh, I hope nothing changes. Fingers crossed!

Tell us something about you guys as a couple that nobody else knows.

Abi takes more time to dress than I do and spends half his paycheck at the salon.

One memory from the wedding that will stay with you forever.

Priyanka- I got deathly sick right after our wedding ceremony but had our puja and reception the day after. Usually I get very needy when I am sick and my mom and dad always took Such amazing care of me. They would make time from their schedules to cook my fav food and literally hand feed me at the risk of them falling sick. I always felt that that kind of love would only come from parents. This time though, since we were in a diff house and I only had a night to recover, Abi, who was equally tired, set alarms every hour for himself, woke up at odd hours to medicate, feed me and nursed me back to health. I thought that was the sweetest thing ever and turned out to be the most beautiful memory for me.

What is the one thing that you will never compromise on in marriage?

Being ourselves as individuals while being us as a couple.

Priyanka, what is the best thing Abhinav has told you till date.

I might not look like it but I am not the most confident person- I am full of self doubt which in a way keeps me going wanting to achieve more but Abi brought a sense of calm and self love into me. He makes me step back and acknowledge what I have done so farpersonally and professionally. He constantly keeps reinforcing that I should give myself credit for things I have done and continue to do which has boosted my self esteem. He is so confident as a person and can tackle any situation with a balanced demeanor which I lack completely. This is what I continue to be inspired by.

14 feb is our wedding anniversary and since we are celebrating 10 years of love a few travel plans are in the pipeline

Big time adjustments to each others moods and temperaments. Communicate give each other space to grow.

Mahi is an event manager and I give her my full support and inputs

Kapil is a silver merchant and often discusses his designs with me. I like the fact that he values my opinions and considers my advice

This has led to an immense growth in our relationship as when we are growing as individuals we help each other grow in the relationship also

The first impression was not very great. But as I got to know the real Kapil he just kept surprising me with his honesty, care and humbleness

Mahima- he is generally even tempered and manages difficult situations with a calm head but when he gets angry it take time to calm him down. So I would like to him to manage his temper better

Kapil- mahima is very unorganised and can never manage to keep the house in spic and span condition. So I would love her to be more organised when it come to the upkeep of our house

With both of you having a busy schedule how do you find time to spend exclusively with each other?

We make sure to plan at least 2 to 3 vacations a year where we do not work at all and make sure to spend every minute enjoying each other’s company and giving the best time to our daughter

Caring and considerate nature. Always looking out for others. Giving priority to the other persons emotions sometimes at the cost of her own

One memory from the wedding that will stay with you forever?

Our wedding was a whirlwind of emotions we lost our dear father ( Kapil’s dad) on the day the wedding was to take place. Due to the ill health of our dad we had to cancel all original plans and the wedding was a small intimate ceremony. But he has never let me feel sad about the day at all

What is the one thing you will never compromise on in marriage?

I feel respect is the basic requirement for a marriage. We will never compromise on our respect and of course our friendship

What are your plans this Valentines day?

We don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day because our whole relationship was long distance but he tries to make me happy somehow by sending flowers and chocolates every year even though he is far but after MARRAIGE last year we celebrated it by going to a romantic dinner and this year he didn’t tell me what are his plans yet

How did you two first meet each other?

We were classmates when we were kids 10th class and then one fine day chintu texted me on Instagram saying hello and then convo started he asked me to meet at a cafe and rest is history

We faced a lot of ups and downs in our relationship we fought a lot and also took drastic decisions to leave each other when we were in a relationship but worked it out because when you love each other you have to trust each other and long distance for 5 years made us so strong .

First thing when we started our relationship we just had 1 year to enjoy in the beginning and the rest 5 years were long distance We had lots of fights but end of the day I chose him and he chose me. We prioritised each other rather than our fights and situations

Trust is the main factor in long distance we had many misunderstandings because of long distance but we trusted each other a lot so end of the day nothing effected us now we are married and happy. Trust is the main thing in a relationship and also respecting each other too. He had my back in every situation and I had his THATS how we did.

Nandu, what was your first impression of Praneeth when you first met him?

He is my 10th class classmate but I had no impression back then because we were still kids but after few years when I was in my engineering he texted me and asked me to meet I had no impression until then I thought he was asking me because we were classmates and he wants to meet I met him at a cafe and the first impression I got is “ who is this over action kid “ �� because he was so silent and not talking to me I thought he was showing off but later I found out he is very very shy

We had traditional Telugu sampraya wedding in that we had to put jeelakarra bellam mixture on top of our heads I have to put my hand on his and vice Versa they made us sit opposite of each other and after we put the hands on top of heads on each other the priest told us to look at each other eyes we saw and I’m completely emotional sudden tears I cried a lot with happiness and his eyes were watering too that was one of the beautiful moments I don’t know why but there’s a reason for that jeelakarra bellam but scientifically it reacts with some chemicals in our body and when you look at each other it creates love ? I guess lol �� but ya that was a beautiful moment

Childhood nostalgia is a special feeling that takes us back in time to those carefree days of our youth. It’s a time when life was simpler, and the world seemed much bigger. A time when we could find joy in the little things, and everything felt magical. The time when I felt many emotions for various things that are no where near being important, like one extra Nutties going to my younger sister.

Childhood in the 1990s in India was a unique experience characterized by a blend of traditional values and modern influences. The country was undergoing rapid economic and social changes, and this was reflected in the pop culture of the time. For children growing up in India during this time, their childhood nostalgia is defined by the pop culture, technology and lifestyle of that era. We got best of both worlds; we have seen the slow side and the growth of technology at the same time.

One of the defining elements of 90s childhoods in India was the abundance of television shows. Children would come home from school and tune in to watch their favourite cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, and The Flinstones. They also watched popular Indian shows such as Ramayana and Mahabharata, which were epic dramas based on ancient Indian literature. Another defining aspect of 90s childhood in India was the rise of video games. 90s was the era of collectibles. Collecting popular trading cards like Bollywood stars and sports legends. We also collected stickers, posters, and other memorabilia of our favourite movie stars, cricketers, and other celebrities. Street food and chaat in evenings for 10 – 20 rupees made so much difference in our smile, enjoyed traditional Indian snacks like phuchka, jhal moori and telebhaja, they are such fond memories and writing this is bringing in huge nostalgia. The late 90s was also marked by the rise of fast-food culture in India. We would enjoy eating at popular fast-food chains like Pizza Hut, KFC and McDonald's.

We would spend hours playing games on consoles like the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The most popular games amongst my friends were Mario, Contra, and Street Fighter.

For those of us born in the 90s, our childhood nostalgia is defined by the things that were popular in that era. We grew up watching classic cartoons such as Cartoon Network’s Tom and Jerry, Nickelodeon’s Rugrats, and Disney’s Doug. We spent countless afternoons after school playing Super Nintendo and watching VHS tapes.

The pop culture, technology, and lifestyle of the era left a lasting impression on we continue to remember it fondly to this day. I remember running home from school bus cause bus was late and I’ll miss ‘Shakalaka Boom Boom’ important part. Few Indian TV shows like Shaktiman, Sonpari made up lot of TV time as a kid. Then sitting and watching Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi cause aunty will watch that, was also a different fun part, later me and my sis enacted to entertain mom and dad with it.

Board games such as Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, and Carrom were also popular pastimes for families. Outdoor evening playtime was the most essential part of our routine, going outside and play tag, hide-and-seek, and hopscotch.

I don’t know how many of you remember, but Pokémon was huge for me and kids around me. We’d collect Pokémon cards, Pogs, and Beanie Babies. We’d snack on Fruit by the Foot, Dunkaroos, and PopTarts.

Music was a huge deal we are the transition era from classic to pop, we have seen gramophone and then moved to using Walkman and CDman. We had blast listening to our favourite bands, like The Backstreet Boys, Blue, Spice Girls, and NSYNC. Indian classical music and Bollywood songs were still the mainstay, and many families would gather around the radio to listen to their favourite songs.

I still remember clearly one Sunday every month we did these picnics in our family, a beautiful potluck with loads of food and outdoor games. All the kids waited for this Sunday. Dad made these boiled masked egg sandwiches which were very famous amongst us. I remember one such picnic I made dad help me learn how to cycle. It was not easy but by the time sun was setting down I was cycling on my own with 100 bruises all over me but a smile of achievement.

Overall, the childhood of the 90s in India was a unique blend of tradition and modernity, and it was a time when kids were exposed to a variety of cultural influences and had the freedom to explore and discover new things.

Legacy of the Last Nizam MUKARRAM JAH: a mine or a dime?

The Nizam of Hyderabad’s decaying legacy, guiding his kismat.

Time and time again, we tend to believe that wealth brings happiness. But it can often be questioned if being born with a silver-spoon is certain to make one feel content with life? One such puzzle was the life of the last Nizam of Hyderabad.

By princely standards, Mukkaram Jah’s childhood could be considered unconventional. Dubbed by his teachers at oon, as a boy who lacked an aptitude for Math and English, Jah showed great interest in carpentry and spent most of his free time at the workshop, which suggested endless opportunities for him in the future. Among the many assets he inherited from his grandfather, Jah sought refuge in tinkering with the 56 broken-down cars in his grandfather’s garage, “I inherited a scrap yard I have a lifetime’s work before me,” he once told the wire

Mukarram Asaf Jah VIII, was born to royalty of the Ottoman Imperial throne's last apparent heir and princess of Turkey Durru Shehvar Durdana Begum, and the heir Azam Jah to the previously reigning Mir Osman Ali Khan (Jah’s grandfather and the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad), in France in 1933 He was one of India's richest men, with a net worth of Rs. 100 crore and the owner of six castles. He died peacefully on the 14th of January, 2023, in Turkey where he was residing currently with his two wives.

Mukarram Jah was crowned as Asaf Jah the Eighth, after the death of Mir Osman Ali Khan in February 1967 at Chowmahalla Palace Prior to his coronation, he attended Harrow, Cambridge, and Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, but had no sense for business. He seemed unconcerned with his title, "Officially I was the Nizam, but since 1948 there was nothing to rule over," he told Australian author John Zubrzycki, who published Mukarram's biography in 2006

A close friend, George Hobday, characterised Jah as a person who was courteous and generous, never flaunted his money, and some who really enjoyed 'playing with explosives'. Jah accepted Hobday's invitation to visit Australia in 1972, where the Western Australia's dry terrain reminded him of the Deccan state. He directed his private secretary to purchase a ‘small’ farm so that he could escape the mediaeval intrigues of the Hyderabad durbar

He married Princess Esra, who was from a Turkish liberal aristocratic family and had studied architecture, in London in 1959. They divorced in 1973, when Esra did not want to move to Murchison House Station, the farm, spanned half a million acres and was a nine hour drive from Perth He was believed to be happiest operating bulldozers and working with automobiles, including an amphibious combat tank he maintained near his home.

After moving to Australia, he married Helen Simmons in 1979, an Australian woman, who died of AIDS, which she contracted from a previous partner. They had two sons, Prince Alexander Azam Jah and Umar, the latter dying as a result of a heroin overdose.

Jah enjoyed living in Australia's desolate outback. "I love this place, miles and miles of open country, and not a bloody Indian in sight," he said, according to Time magazine. But he ran into greater financial difficulties and tragedies in Australia, while his estates in Hyderabad were plundered or sold for pennies by unscrupulous administrators and associated he had entrusted with handling his holdings.

The Nizams of Hyderabad were thought to have more jewellery than all of India's other royal houses collectively. According to the Indian Express, upon accession, Jah inherited a ‘ridiculously inflated’ army of 14,718 staff and dependants, including people whose only job was to dust chandeliers or ground the Nizam's walnuts; a staggering collection of gems and jewellery; and heirlooms that included priceless paintings and furniture.

Amidst his many, many possessions, included some of the city's most prominent structures, including Falaknuma Palace, Chowmahalla Palace, Nazri Bagh Palace, Chiraan Palace, Purani Haveli, and Naukhanda Palace in Aurangabad.

As his financial conditions only worsened, he made the wise decision to turn to his first wife Esra in 1996 to rebuild his decaying palaces and assets. Esra admitted she was intimidated by the enormous responsibility bestowed upon her, but she worked with the Taj Group to rebuild the Falaknuma Palace, which is now one of the Taj Group's most cherished palace hotels. For decades, it has been locked up and in a state of decaying neglect.

In 2002, the government paid Rs. 2.2 crores for the ‘Nizam's jewellery collection’, despite the fact that an international auction house previously estimated it was worth well over Rs. 1,000 crore.

Experts say it's difficult to put a price on the antique collection because many of the pieces are one-of-a-kind, including the historic Golconda and Jacob diamonds (which his grandfather used as a paper-weight). The collection was kept in the vaults of the Hong Kong Bank for decades before being moved to a Reserve Bank strongroom. A few years ago, some 173 pieces from the jewellery collection were displayed in Delhi

Being of royal descent, Jah was usually seen wearing the traditional Nizami and 'Jutis'. Whilst in Hyderabad pictures show him also carrying During his escapades to other c seen wearing everyday clothes.

In 1992, he married Manolya Onur, a former Miss Turkey (who he divorced in 1997), and the following year, he married Jameela Boulaarous, a Moroccan woman. Ayesha Orchedi, whom he married in 1994, was his most recent wife. His wives were all of foreign nationalities. Jah spent the last of his years in Istanbul. He leaves behind four children, sons Azmet, Azam and daughters Shehkar, Niloufer and Zairin Unnisa Begum As per the late Nizam’s wishes, his remains were kept at the Chowmahalla Palace for the locals to pay their respects, after which he was buried at the Mecca Masjid stating he wanted to be buried in his homeland.

Prince Azmet Jah will succeed his father, with the Dastar Bandi (succession ceremony) taking place after the period of mourning is over However, the succession will most likely be for legal reasons, but Azmet Jah will not formally bear the title of ninth Nizam.

Mukarram Jah was philosophical about 'kismet' or fate guiding his life He inherited immense wealth, but it was a decaying legacy. However, given his lack of business acumen, it appears unlikely that he could have turned the situation around.
