DEDEAT plants trees during the provincial clean-up campaign

The Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) led the provincial clean up campaign which saw more than 50 trees being planted in various parts of Burgersdorp in Walter Sisulu Municipality The main event took place in Eureka Community Hall, Burgersdorp on September 21, 2022 and beganwithtreeplantinginthe Burgersdorp Primary School where the Regional Director, Dr Mzukisi Mboto, officially planted thefourtrees with the school principal and other stakeholders. Handing over the trees, Dr Mboto explained

why planting trees was important within the context of a clean, healthy environment. Trees are well known and scientifically proven to provide oxygen and reduce erosion, pollution, and flooding He pleaded with the principal and pupils to protect and nurturethetreesandkeep their school clean. In his main address, Dr. Mboto stated that the campaign seeks to remind stakeholders that environmental function is a shared responsibility of all spheres of government, other stakeholders,socialactors,and communities in pursuit of a clean environment "A clean

environment will significantly contribute to economic growth, poverty eradication, and tourism development." The u/15s started the tournament well by winningtheirfirstmatch of the day, against High School Spandau, 56 0 They played their second match of the day against Marlow High School’s u/15 B team, and won the game 56 0 Next, they played their third, and final, of the poolgamesagainstGrensHigh School’s u/15 A team By playing excellent rugby, they won the game 46 0. winning all three games in their pool, they played in the semi final against the hosts of the tournament, Hoër Volkskool. *Ingredients:

°2 cups all purposeflour °3/4 teaspoon bakingsoda °1/2 teaspoon salt °1 cup granulatedsugar °1/4 cup soft butter °2 large eggs °½ cup mashedripebananas (about 3 bananas) °1/4 cup low fat plain yogurt (or Pina Colada flavoured!) °3 tablespoonsdarkrumor applejuice °1/2 teaspoon vanillaextract °1/2 cup shreddedcoconut °cookingspray

°1 tablespoon of shredded or grated coconut °1/2 cup powdered sugar °1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice

*Instructions

Preheat oven 180 degrees. Put a spoonful of flour in dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour, baking soda and salt, stirring with a paddle attachment. Putting sugar and butter in bowl. Beat with mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add one egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Add banana, yogurt, rum and vanilla; Whisk until blended. Add the flour mixture. Beat at low speed until moist. My heart 1/2 cup coconut. Pour mixture into a standard size loaf pan covered with cooking spray; Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of coconut. Bake at 180 degrees for 1 hour, or until a stick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in skillet for 10 minutes on a wire rack; Remove from skillet. Combine powdered sugar and juice, stirring with a whisk. Sprinkle on warm bread. Cool completely on a wire rack. Enjoy!
