ALIWAL NORTH | LEBOHANG TLABA Two suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of operating a dagga plantation and numerous counts of dealing in drugs in the Aliwal North and Lady Grey. According to the provincial spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks), Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation on Monday. She said this came after
officers responded to a call about a farm that was operating as a dagga plantation. Mgolodela said several purchases were successfully conducted by officers and surveillance was conducted at the farm. “On Monday ... the team proceeded to the farm in Lady Grey where they met a 35-year-old man who is alleged to be the consultant of the dagga farm owner who was absent at the time. So ietsie vir die manne... Ai, hoe verskriklik is 'n afbrekende, neerhalende, sarkastiese en nydige woord uit die mond van 'n dwaas nie! En spesifiek teenoor 'n persoon se wederhelf, na watter kant toe ook al. Ek dink egter ons as manne is meer skuldig hieraan as andersom. Dink net, voor 'n kansel het 'n persoon trou gesweer en liefde beloof aan 'n ander, totdat die dood daardie verbintenis onomkeerbaar tot niet maak, maar nie lank daarna nie begin daardie wrede moord wat met woorde gepleeg word. Stukkie vir stukkie, soos slukkie vir slukkie gif. Ek het dit al so baie gesien, en ek verstaan dit nie. Ek hoor eendag hierdie pragtige beeld: Die man is die spieël waarin sy vrou haarself sien. Dit het my nogal aangeraak, want ek het besef dat my woorde, lyftaal, reaksies en kommunikasie met my vrou, bepaal wat sy van haarself dink. Sjoe! Hoe meer 'n vrou hoor sy is mooi vir haar man, en hoe meer sy hoor sy is die beste, hoe mooier word sy, want dis lekker om voor daai "spieël" te staan. Die woorde : "Ek is lief vir jou", of "sjoe jy lyk mooi" en "dankie vir die heerlike bord kos", beteken BAIE meer as die bloesie wat sy maar mag koop. Die Suid-Afrikaanse Poskantoor (Sapo) het 'n aanlyndiens bekendgestel vir die hernuwing van motorvoertuiglisensies vanaf enige mobiele elektroniese toestel. Sapo het Maandag in 'n verklaring gesê die volle hernuwingsproses, insluitend betaling, sal aanlyn gedoen word, wat net die laaste stap van toegang tot die lisensieskyf oorlaat. Die lisensieskyf kan teen 'n bekostigbare afleweringsfooi by die kliënt afgelewer word of dit kan by 'n poskantoortoonbank afgehaal word. “Betaling geskied veilig deur Masterpass, wat die gebruiker van die Google Play Winkel vir Android-toestelle en die Apple App Store vir Appletoestelle kan aflaai. “Geen kommissie word op die hernuwingstransaksie gehef nie. Die koste van aflewering by die deur is R75 en daar is geen koste vir die klant
wanneer dit by 'n poskantoortoonbank afgehaal word nie,” het Sapo gesê. Die kliënt sal 'n SMS ontvang wanneer die skyf by 'n poskantoor aankom vir afhaal of wanneer dit uitgaan vir aflewering. Die omkeertyd is drie werksdae, terwyl dit vir afgeleë gebiede tot twee dae langer kan wees. “Die aanlyn aansoek vir die hernuwing van motorvoertuiglisensies is die eerste stap om die ‘Sapo in my Sak’-strategie in werklikheid te omskep en sal die klant in staat stel om die hele proses in die gerief van hul eie huise of kantore te voltooi. “Die diens is beskikbaar vir voertuigeienaars in alle provinsies van SuidAfrika behalwe tans die WesKaap. A census is the total count of a population whereby all people, including children, babies, homeless people, and foreign nationals within the borders of a country, are counted. A census collects data about a country’s socio-economic dynamics – people’s living conditions, access to basic services, income, etc. Stats SA is mandated by the Statistics Act (Act No. 6 of 1999) to collect data for official statistics and to conduct a census. The Act also makes it obligatory to provide data to Stats SA fieldworkers administering questionnaires for producing official statistics. According to the head of Stats SA in Limpopo, Nthambeleni Mukwevho, citizens who refuse to be counted during Census 2022 may face up to six months imprisonment or be liable for a R10 000 fine.

Rekord Media het op 27 Januarie 2022 afskeid geneem van sy Groep Redakteur, Corné van Noordwyk wat na 15 maande bedank het. Van Noordwyk het ‘n pos as bestuurder by ‘n gewilde eet- en kuierplek in Bethlehem aanvaar en aangedui dat hy uitsien na die nuwe uitdaging wat op sy pad gekom het. Van Noordwyk sal onthou word as ‘n hardwerkende, lojale personeellid wat Rekord uitgebrei het van ‘n streeks media huis met 24 koerante in hoofsaaklik die Vrystaat, Noord – en Oos Kaap na ‘n media groep wat weekliks nou 65 digitale koerante in al 9 provinsies uitgee met meer as 217 000 lesers wat die koerante weekliks lees. Van Noordwyk was ook nou betrokke by die beplanning en loodsing van Rekord se digitale radiostasie, Rekord FM wat later die jaar loods.

Huis is my heimat. ‘n Redakteur is almal se slaansak, yellow pages, gratis prokureur, sielkundige, tussenganger en sy of haar ore is almal se asblik vir afpak. Iewers moet jy uitsien na jou binnekamer. Jy word die koerant en die koerant word jy. In Maraisstraat, Kroonstad, sien ek 'n oom met 'n hark wat die gras, wat uiteindelik gesny is, bymekaar maak. Hy is grys, maar fiks. Op 'n afstand herken ek nie Koos Basson nie. Toe ek hom, 'n belangrike man destyds ontmoet, het hy 'n rang gehad. Kom ek sê generaal. Hy was bevelvoerder van die gevangenisdiens in Kroonstad. 'n Perfeksionis! Streng! Ek parkeer sommer aan die verkeerde kant van die pad. Joernalis-nuuskierigheid laat jou soms "voor op die wa" voorkom. "Kan ek help? " vra ek om die ys te breek. Wat wil iemand met die reste doen? Dalk 'n storie, reken ek so by myself. Ek wil oom Koos help om die gras op te hark vir sy jong varkies se kooigoed. My fiksheid is minus nul, so ek bied aan om my tuiningenieur 'n blok verder te gaan haal. As ek net twee sakke se gras moes stop, het ek die plasing uit die hospitaal geskryf... Oom Koos, ook bekend as Rooi Koos, weens sy rooi hare destyds, praat sommer lekker. Sy hande het oumensvlekke en hy is grys. So bietjie rooi by die snor verklap sy rooi hare van destyds. Ek het hom as mooi, jong skakelbeampte van Kroonstadmunisipaliteit in die 90's ontmoet. Kort en

Oom Koos was 'n streng bevelvoerder van die destydse gevangenisdiens. 'n Statige man. Die mooiste funksies wat ek al ooit bygewoon het was by die destydse A la carte Restaurant by DKD. Vandag is die restaurant net 'n vervalle iets van die 90's. Ek verstout my om te sê geen gevangenes, skuus vandag beskryf as in-proses gerehabiliteerdes of skuus oortreders, word as sjefs opgelei nie. Onder oom Koos se bevel was 6000 gevangenes en minstens 700 bewaarders. Die terrein was een van die mooiste voorbeelde van hoe 'n staatsdepartement moet funksioneer. Vandag mag oortreders nie bandiete wees wat terreine onderhou nie. Dis hul, die misdadigers, se grondwetlike reg om geen arbeid te verrig nie, word ek deesdae meegedeel. Oom Koos boer met varke. Na sy aftrede is dit sy liefde en spesialiteit. Hy is 'n bekende gesig op veilings. Hy wil en moet dit doen om sy kop skoon te hou. Hy het 'n slag met woorde en ken tekste uit die Bybel waarvan ek net kan droom. Hy is
lid van die Volle Evangeliese Kerk in Kroonstad. "Happy clappies" sou ek maklik sê. "Toe my vrou, my seun en dogter dood is, wou ek moed opgee, maar God het my geroep: ek het 'n doel en dis waarom ek vandag lewe. Ek moet en kan net aanhou," vertel hy. In my binnenste wil ek hom dominee of pastoor roep. Ek gaan bitter min kerk toe. Die TV-dominee is vir my piekfyn! Ja, ja die kerk is die hospitaal vir mense wat godsdiens benodig. Preek maar, ek luister... Oom Koos vee sy trane af. Ek ook. Hy haal sy hoed met sweetvlekke af. Hy vat my hand. Ek plaas myne bo-oor syne. Hy bid. En ek voel geseën. Ek het 'n doel op aarde. Al voel ek hoe alleen. Oom Koos, jy en ek kan en wil 'n verskil maak. My boodskap is eenvoudig. Stop, smell the roses, look and be what you need to be. Give our glory to God (vergewe die Engels- dis geïnspireer). Just do it! As jy iemand of iets sien, stop and smell the roses. Vandag is ek en oom Koos goeie vriende. Hy bid enige plek of tyd vir almal se lewens wat saakmaak. Myne, joune, wit, swart, bruin... vir almal.

Ingredients 4 pork chops, bone-in or boneless (about 1-inch thick) 1 teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon garlic powder Salt and fresh cracked black pepper, to taste 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons olive oil For the mushroom sauce 1 cup sliced brown mushrooms 4-5 garlic cloves, crushed 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 1/2 cup (125ml) chicken broth 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions: 1. To make the garlic pork chops: Combine paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Pat the pork chops dry with kitchen paper then season generously with the spice mix. Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over mediumhigh until butter is melted. 2. Sear the pork chops for 3-5 minutes per side until well browned on both sides. Transfer the pork chops to a warm plate and set aside. 3. In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and stir fry until golden brown, scraping up any bits leftover from the chops. 4. Add garlic, parsley and Italian seasoning then stir fry for another 30 seconds before pouring in the broth. Add the cream, give a good stir then allow simmering for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened and adjust seasoning if needed. 5. Place pork chops and their juices back into the sauce and allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes, or until the pork chops are cooked to your liking. Garnish with remaining fresh parsley and serve the garlic pork chops in creamy mushroom sauce immediately with cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, or pasta. Enjoy!

RAMERON PIGEON TRAIL | NIEUWOUDTVILLE, NORTHERN CAPE
The Rameron Pigeon Trail is one of two trails in the Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve and can take anything from four to seven days, depending on your fitness level. Your evenings are spent in camp sites. Day one: 5.9 km Groot Tuin to Kareebos takes a course through indigenous forest on the banks of the Oorlogskloof River to the campsite. It is not taxing. Day two: 7.9 km Kareebos to Kameel se Gat along the river bank until you reach a waterhole. This trail then does the second day of the Rock Pigeon trail (fairly tough), deviating onlyl to reach Kameel se Gat camp site. Day three: 4.6 km Kameel se Gat to Suikerbosfontein follows the third day of the Rock Pigeon hike. Day four: 6.3 km Suikerbosfontein to Swartkliphuis passes several caves and graves attributed to earlier inhabitants of the area. The trail heads down to Draaikraal spring. There are a number of waterholes on this section of the hike. You then head back up to the plateau. Day five: 8.1 km Swartkliphuis to Bo-kloof trails the cliffs of the Doltuin valley until you head down using a wooden ladder. You reach Gheling se Tenk via a couple of caves with rock paintings and a little waterfall. The stream you then cross is the last chance to fill up, and the final leg of the day leads through impressive boulders. Day six: 7.3 km from Bo-kloof to Olienhoutbos follows the river course passing two overhanging rocks endowed with rock paintings. It is a relatively leisurely route. Olienhoutbos is reached via a rock feature with a difference. Day seven: 12 km Olienhoutbos to Groot Tuin takes the river bed until you reach the jeep track and on to the Groot Tuin turnoff. BANK CORMORANT
| PHALACROCORAX NEGLECTUS APPEARANCE The bank cormorant is a heavy-bodied black bird with a bronze sheen and webbed feet. The adult has a small crest on the head and usually a white rump and dark brown wings. The immature bank cormorant is a duller black in colour. BANK CORMORANT DIET The bank cormorant eats fish and aquatic invertebrates and does most of its foraging alone among kelp beds. BANK CORMORANT HABITAT The bank cormorant generally stays close to the coastline, especially within the kelp zone, standing on small islands and offshore rocks. They rarely move further out to sea. BANK CORMORANT BREEDING In South Africa, the bank cormorant breed nearly all months of the year, except April, August and November. The female lay 2-3 chalky-white eggs which are incubated by both sexes for about 28-32 days. BANK CORMORANT STATUS Common resident but endangered. WHERE THEY ARE FOUND The bank cormorant is endemic to Southern Africa’s western coast from the west coast of South Africa to the south-western coastline of Swakopmund in Namibia.

KLITSGRAS Klitsie het 'n verlede week op 'n date uit gegaan. Lieflike bruin gebrande boer wat Klitsie sommer in 'n khaki kortbroek en hemp met die Hilux kom optel het. Die klere was so skoon soos die John Deere keppie wat die man se pragtige kort gesnyde blonde hare weg gesteek het. Klitsie kon toe nie help om te wonder hoeveel tyd en detail in die vooraf beplanning vir die date deur hom gegaan het nie. Hy't geshower, 'n skoon onderbroek en khaki's aangetrek sy hare gekam bietjie Old spice opgegooi en daar gaan jy. Nie Klitsie nie. Dis amazing hoeveel hare en plekke geshave moet word vir die date. Die mani en pedi kos 'n fortune en dan 'n gemaklike rokkie en skoene moet ook dan gesoek word. Die Cosmo sê te veel jewellery is nie die inding nie en die Sarie se weer gooi toe van die krale, bande and heavens know what. Die vooruitsig dat daar dalk gekafoefel kan word, word ook in diepte bespreek en daar word maar weer op nog plekke geshave for just in case you know. Ek hoop maar dis no case at all maar hey jy moet maar gereed wees. Die bra en die pantie is nog 'n issue wat intens bespreek word. Wit is te en blou is te en vergeet van rooi. Satyn of gewoon. En wat om aan te smeer en te spray. En dan wat nog alles in die handsak moet kom. Gelukkig is die so groot dat jy hom met alles en nog 'n bietjie ekstra kan laai. Die tyd. Die geld. Die moeite. Mans moet ons girls waardeer vir al die tyd en geld wat ons op voor die date spandeer. Maar nou ja, ek moet eerlik wees die boer was mooier met net die John Deere keppie aan... tot volgende week
