More politicians have found themselves on the wrong side of the law. This as two political deployees from the troubled Theunissen-based Masilonyana Local Municipality have reportedly been arrested by the police. According to a source, the officials have been nabbed for incitement of violence which took place in Theunissen in 2021, when the community went on the rampage. Koalane, was set alight amidst violent unrest. According to this, the politicians have allegedly been linked to the unrest which unfolded in the area. During the unrest, no one was reported injured but it was reported that the protesters petrol-bombed a police Nyala. Following the unrest, at least eleven people were arrested in connection with the unrest. Public Order Police continued to keep a close watch over the situation in Theunissen, and tensions
appeared to calm down. The Masilonyana Local Municipality is mum on the unrest, with no statements released on the protests or the torching of Koalane’s parental home. Bread prices set to increase as wheat prices reach record highs

Te midde van voortdurende onsekerheid onder die heersende nasionale ramptoestand, het Graan SA gister op sy jaarlikse kongres ten gunste van die aanbieding van die NAMPO Oesdag in sy oorspronklike tydgleuf in Mei gestem, met die nakoming van enige nasionale regulasies wat in plek mag wees. Landbouprodusente en die publiek kan weer eerstehands beleef hoe moderne landbou lyk. Die 54ste NAMPO Oesdag, wat as die hartklop van landbou in SuidAfrika beskou word, bied 'n unieke platform waar produsente hul kennis kan uitbrei en nuwe tegnologie en produktiwiteitsoplossings kan verken. Verder bied NAMPO nie net 'n geleentheid vir gesprek en dialoog nie, maar stel dit ook die publiek en ander rolspelers in staat om kommersiële landbou en voedselveiligheid en sekuriteit in aksie te ervaar. “Die uitwerking om sedert 2019 nie ’n Oesdag by NAMPO Park aan te kon bied nie, het verreikende gevolge nie net vir die
organisasie gehad nie, maar ook vir die omliggende dorpe. Die plaaslike distrik, wat nog nie heeltemal van buitensporige waterskade in Januarie herstel het nie, maak staat op die ekonomiese en finansiële inspuiting wat deur die Oesdag meegebring is,” het Graan SA Bemarking, NAMPO & Navorsingshoof, dr Dirk Strydom gesê. NAMPO-uitstallers wil produsente ontmoet en weer hul produkte ten toon stel. In oorleg met uitstallers het meer as 80% aangedui dat dit nodig is om die Oesdag in Mei 2022 aan te bied, en was dit eens dat 'n ekstra dag in die skedule broodnodige sakegeleentheid kan byvoeg. Met byna 800 uitstallers is NAMPO dié platform om met die landboubedryf se toprolspelers te netwerk, vriendskappe en verhoudings te versterk en te geniet wat hierdie unieke vertoning bied in 'n rustige plaasatmosfeer. Volgens Danie Minnaar, voorsitter van die NAMPO Oesdag, is die beste tegnologie en kennis vir produsente om volhoubaar te boer by NAMPO te
vinde. “Al bly die landbou onder geweldige druk, het landbouers steeds genoeg passie vir boerdery om elke aspek van landbou wat die Oesdag bied te verken om mededingend en relevant te bly,” het hy gesê. Die afwesigheid van NAMPO Oesdag het die kritieke rol wat hierdie platform speel om netwerkvorming in die landbousektor te fasiliteer, beklemtoon. Implementering sal nou in alle erns begin en Graan SA is opgewonde en gerat om produsente, Landbou-belanghebbendes, verskaffers, ander waardekettingrolspelers sowel as die publiek terug te verwelkom by hierdie landbouvertoonvenster, wat 'n gediversifiseerde uitstalling met 'n verskeidenheid nuwe tegnologie, produkte en en dienste op een platform aanbied. | HEUNINGDRUPPELS Ek ken 'n man, 'n Christen, wat ek dink so effe roekeloos met sy Geestelike lewe, en met die Here omgaan. Hy dien die Here en hou vas aan al die regte tekste, soos "Ek weet wat Ek vir julle beplan, voorspoed en nie teëspoed nie" en dan ander soos "As die Here vir ons is, wie kan teen ons wees?" My probleem is dat ek sien dat hy dinge so bietjie vanselfsprekend vat en elke dag amper selfvoldaan ingaan met die vaste vertroue dat die Here hom sal versorg. Wat seker wel waar is. Ek sien ook dat hy dalk selfs roekeloos met genade omgaan, want die gedagte dat Jesus vir hom gesterf laat hom so half onaantasbaar voel. Die volgende teks pas nogal vir my in hierdie situasie en ek dink dit moet dien as 'n waarskuwing. "Daar is 'n lewenswyse wat vir 'n mens reg kan lyk, maar die uiteinde daarvan is die dood." (Spr. 24:12) Ek ken 'n ander man, sy naam is Joe, en hy was vandag by my om iets te kom herstel. Joe het vanoggend vir my gesê dat hy élke oggend vir die Here uit sy hart dankie sê vir 'n nuwe dag, en dat hy en sy vrou uiters dankbaar is vir elke stukkie brood op die tafel. Jy sien, Joe het kanker en die dokters het ná die diagnose vir hom gesê hy het net ongeveer ses weke oor om te leef en hy moet sy dinge agtermekaar kry. Daardie diagnose was egter al twee jaar gelede gemaak, en intussen het sy siekte en die virus sy besigheid bykans totaal gekelder en hulle het alles verloor. Ja, alles materieel, maar nie hulle geloof en vertroue in die Here nie. Hy het nog genoeg krag om aan te gaan. Elke enkele dag is vir Joe 'n porsie nuwe genade en hy het tot die besef gekom dat aardse goed absoluut geen waarde het nie. Alles, maar álles is net vir jou geleen. Ek het vandag besef dat genade en versorging soos wat ek dit definieer dalk waar is, maar dis nie gewaarborg nie. Genade het vandag opnuut vir my nuwe betekenis gekry en ek het besef dat roekeloos met God, en genade dodelik kan wees. Die Here het my herinner aan Matt. 7:21 “Nie elkeen wat vir My sê: ‘Here, Here,’ sal in die koninkryk van die hemel ingaan nie..." Jip, soos jy kan aflei is ek self daardie roekelose ou, en die Here het dit vandag weereens vir my kom wys, deur iemand wat werklik die knie voor hom buig. Die Here het die volgende vandag weer vir my teen die bors gedruk. "Grace is free, but it doesn't come cheap". Dit het bloed gekos. ~ Willem Botha

Cases of lumpy skin disease on the rise: Expert weighs in NATIONAL | LEBOHANG TLABA The rise in cases of lumpy skin disease in South Africa could have a severe economic impact, as the disease weakens livestock, permanently damages hides, and can lead to 10% more deaths and abortions, experts have warned. “This year’s above-average rainfall has led to an increased risk of insecttransmitted diseases. We’re seeing increasing numbers of lumpy skin disease outbreaks in cattle in South Africa,” Prof Jannie Crafford of the Faculty’s Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases (DVTD) said. The latest disease report by the Ruminant Veterinary Association of South Africa indicated lumpy skin disease outbreaks in eight provinces. James Faber, Chairperson of the Red Meat Producers’ Organisation, said lumpy skin disease could have a devastating impact on cattle production. “When the lumps burst open they can scar the animal’s skin, and this damage will have to be cut out, often rendering the hide worthless. The disease can also damage an animal’s fertility, and this can extend a farmer’s entire production season. When weighing the impact of this disease against the cost of vaccines, there is no argument. Farmers cannot afford not to vaccinate their herds,” Faber said. Prof Crafford added that lumpy skin disease outbreaks usually occur during wet summer and autumn months when the virus was spread by biting flies, mosquitoes, and hard ticks such as the African brown ear tick
(Rhipicephalus appendiculatus), bont tick (Amblyomma hebraeum) and African blue tick (Rhipicephalus decoloratus). “Direct contact between animals plays only a minor role in the transmission of the virus. However, calves that suckle from infected cows can become infected. Farmers should also be careful not to spread the disease by using the same needle during vaccination of the herd.” Clinical signs of the disease include characteristic skin nodules, fever, salivation, nasal discharge, and pink eye (conjunctivitis), with corneal opacity and blindness in some cases. Prof Crafford warned that infection of the udder could cause mastitis and a significant drop in milk production, while lesions in the reproductive organs of bulls and cows could lead to infertility. “Damage to the udder and reproductive organs could be permanent in severe cases,” he said. There are several vaccines available for the prevention of lumpy skin disease, and farmers need to closely follow the instructions on the vaccine pamphlet when inoculating their cattle. The diagnosis could be confirmed by a laboratory through isolating the virus in a blood or lesion sample. “Lumpy skin disease is a notifiable disease, and all suspected cases need to be reported to the local State Veterinarian,” Prof Crafford said. Dear Reader, I specifically want to write this week to the businessmen and women reading the Rekord Newspapers across our regions. As far back as Ancient Egypt, advertising has served a critical purpose in the business world by enabling sellers to effectively compete with one another for the attention of buyers. Whether the goods and services your company provides are a necessity, a luxury or just a bit of whimsy, you can't rely on a one-time announcement or
word-of-mouth chatter to keep a steady stream of customers. A strong commitment to advertising is as much an external call to action as it is an internal reinforcement to your sales team. If I can give you a personal tip: Advertising serves a critical purpose by enabling sellers to effectively compete with each other for the attention of buyers. Promotion of Products and Services: The primary objective of advertising is to get the word out that you have something exciting to offer, says George Felton, author of "Advertising: Concept and Copy." It can be anything from an upcoming entertainment event you're promoting, a new product line you're selling, a political campaign you're managing, the expansion of an existing platform of services or officially hanging out a shingle for your first business. Whether your promotion takes the form of print ads, commercials, billboards or handbills, the content adheres to the rules of journalism by identifying who, what, when, where and why. Creating Customer Awareness: Advertising helps to raise your target demographics' awareness of issues with which they may be unfamiliar as well as educate them on the related benefits of your product or service. A popular example of this is
the health care industry. If, for instance, a consumer watches a television commercial in which someone describes aches and pains that are similar to those experienced by the viewer, the ad not only identifies a probable cause but suggests a potential remedy or treatment option to discuss with her doctor. Comparisons with Competitors: Advertising invites your target audience to evaluate how your product or service measures up against your competitors, says Gerard Tellis, author of "Effective Advertising: Understanding When, How, and Why Advertising Works." Demonstrations of household cleaning products are a good example of this because they provide compelling visual evidence of which product does a faster and more effective job of tackling stubborn stains. Political ads are another example of how advertising serves up sideby-side comparisons of the candidates' qualifications and voting records for readers and viewers to make informed choices at the polls. Retention of Existing Customers: An ongoing advertising campaign is essential in reminding your existing customers that you're still around, say, Kenneth Roman and Jane Maas, authors of "How to Advertise." In a troubled economy where so many shops, restaurants and
companies are going out of business, maintaining a strong presence through regular ads, fliers, postcards, events and a dynamic website is invaluable for long-term relationships. This also serves to attract new customers who may not have required your products or services when you first opened but are now pleased to have their memories jogged. Boosting Employee Morale: When people ask your employees where they're working, the latter will likely feel better about their jobs if the reaction to their reply is, "Wow! I've heard a lot of great things about that store" instead of "Nope, never heard of it" or "Oh, are they still around?" Investing in an advertising plan keeps your business an active part of the conversational vocabulary and community buzz. This, in turn, gives your workers a sense of pride and emotional ownership in an enterprise that's generating positive feelings and name recognition. METODE 1. Sit die stokvis in ’n kastrol en bedek dit met water. Voeg die suurlemoenskyfies en peperkorrels by en verhit dit tot kookpunt. Verlaag die hitte en laat dit vir omtrent vyf minute prut totdat die vis deurgaar is en maklik vlok. Skep die vis met ’n gaatjieslepel uit en sit dit eenkant om af te koel. 2. Verwyder die vel en grate van die gerookte vis en vlok die vleis. Voeg die aartappels,

wortels, ui, gemmer, ’n kwart van die broodkrummels en die koljanderblare by. Vlok die gaar stokvis en voeg dit by die mengsel. 3. Meng die mayonnaise, kerrie, eier en mosterd in ’n aparte bakkie. Roer dit liggies by die vismengsel in. Verdeel die mengsel in 10 tot 12 plat frikkadelle. 4. Versprei die res van die krummels op ’n bord en druk die frikkadelle daarin. Sit dit vir minstens ’n uur in die yskas. 5. Verhit die helfte van
die botter en die olie oor medium hitte. Sodra die pan warm is, kan jy die helfte van die viskoekies daarin sit en dit vir drie tot vier minute aan elke kant braai tot goudbruin. Skep dit uit die pan en dreineer dit op kombuispapier. Sit dit eenkant terwyl jy die res van die viskoekies in die res van die olie en botter braai. Sit dit warm óf koud voor saam met suurlemoenwiggies, wortel-enwaterkersslaai en vars broodrolletjies.

FINCH (RED HEADED FINCH) | AMADINA ERYTHROCEPHALA
The red-headed finch is a small sparrowsized bird at around 14 cm in length. The sexes are dimorphic in appearance. The male red-headed finch has a bright redhead, with the upper parts a greyish to brown colouring. With a white lower belly and black, white and brown barring on the tail. The white spotting on the chest and belly distinguishes this bird from other red-headed birds of the same size. The female has a plain brown head. The redheaded finch feeds on seeds and insects on the ground. The red-headed finch is monogamous and uses a wide range of old birds nests, with communal nesting weavers being the most popular. The nesting can be either singular or in small colonies. The female will lay between four and six eggs that hatch after around two weeks. The red-headed finch is found either in pairs or in small colonies during the breeding season. Outside of the breeding season, they are very gregarious and are found in large flocks up to a couple of hundred birds. The redheaded finch is seen at waterholes, in large flocks, where they drink frequently. The red-headed finch is a near-endemic. It is found throughout central South Africa in arid and semi-arid areas, mostly found in open grassland, with clumps of trees. They are also found around farmlands.
