WELCOME TO THE BALLPARK
THE BOSCH FLOCK ON BEHALF OF THE BISMARCK LARKS...
Welcome to Bismarck Municipal Ballpark, Home of Dakota Community Bank and Trust Field. Our 2022 season is underway and is shaping up to be our most exciting year ever. This season, you will see some of the best collegiate baseball players in the country compete in epic Northwoods League action. Additionally, games will include outstanding promotions, visits from celebrity guests, and some awesome on-field entertainment acts. My personal favorites are the Touchmark Larkettes, Finn the Dakota Foot and Ankle Bat Dog, crowd karaoke, and the tribute to veterans in attendance each game. Larks games offer a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to spend time together and take a break from our busy lives. Young families, friends out for the night, couples on a date, and businesses celebrating with employees and customers come together to enjoy the game and the fun. There’s no need for virtual reality or the metaverse at a Larks game because you’re experiencing and participating in the festivities – well heck, if that is what you want though we even have Bismarck State College sponsoring a fun baseball virtual reality experience at the ballpark too! The Larks are grateful for the incredible support shown by the Bismarck-Mandan community. During the season, we look forward to recognizing many of the people and organizations that make our community such a great place to live. At the ballpark this year, I'd also encourage you to take a few minutes and visit the 'History of Bismarck Baseball' display on the third base concourse. It won't be long before we will see that area featuring Larks alumni playing in the Major Leagues. So tonight, let your kids explore the CHI St. Alexius Health Fun Zone, high five your buddies when the Larks score a run, sing and dance to your favorite songs, and enjoy our wonderful North Dakota evenings. I hope you have a great time at the game. Go Larks! Sincerely, Glenn Bosch Owner Bismarck Larks

VICTOR COLE BY CHARLIE MAURER Victor Cole has a rich baseball background. Not only did Cole spend 15 years in professional baseball, but he will also forever be cemented in the history of the game. Although Victor Cole was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Cole was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, formally known as Leningrad in the Soviet Union. By the time he moved to the United States he still had not touched a baseball. After being drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1988 amateur draft, Cole became one of only nine Russian-born players to spend time in Major League Baseball. He played Single-A minor league ball all the way to pitching in Major League Baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cole then spent time back in the minor leagues while also spending time overseas playing in the Taiwan Major League and Korean Baseball Organization. Finally, in 2003 Cole joined the Russian National team as a player before he eventually became as assistant coach, helping the Russian National Team prepare for the European Championships in 2020. “In 2003 I got to play with the Russian National Team,” Cole said. “At the time they had all Russian players, so it was tough competing against independent pro teams in the United States. They wanted me to come and play in their upcoming European Championship games, but we were unable to get approval by the Russian Government.” After spending a short time as a player for the Russian National Team, 16 years later he got the call to return to his native country. “I got a call from the Russians asking if I would like to help coach their team,” Cole said. “I was coaching in high school at the time, so I had to wait until June to go to Moscow. It was my first time back in Russian since I was four years old. The team was much better with the addition of six Cuban players and my son (Vic Jr.). I soaked in as much as I could until the pandemic canceled our 2020 season.” Now in Bismarck, Victor Cole now adds another stop on his baseball journey. “The thought of coaching with another ex-pro with Will Flynt’s resume, the Larks job was very appealing,” Cole said. “But when I saw what the Bismarck Larks were about, it was a done deal. I have never been around a front office with as much passion and love for the game as the Larks.” To say Victor Cole has a passion and love for the game would be an understatement. It has been a way of life that has taken him all around the world, and now he's with a team that shares the same passion.

Aaron Mann, an infielder from Little Rock, Arkansas, is looking to continue to sharpen his game in the Northwoods League. Mann is coming off a tremendous year at the plate in 2022 at Drury University. He finished second on the team in batting average hitting for an impressive .399 mark, while hitting for the most hits on the team with 77. Mann also ended the year with the second most RBIs on the team with 58, and the fourth most home runs with 9. Although this is Mann’s first year with the Larks, this is not his first year in the Northwoods League. Mann spent the summer of 2019 with the Rockford Rivets, where he finished with a .205 batting average, recording 26 hits in 127 at bats. He drove in 15 runs and delivered seven extra base hits.
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS
Now in Bismarck, Mann is excited and optimistic about the summer. A few different factors went into him joining the Larks this summer, but it was the repertoire of Bismarck that drew him here. “I was intrigued to play here for many different reasons,” Mann said. “A few of my old teammates that had played in Bismarck had really great things to say, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to play with the Larks.” “As for playing in the Northwoods League, I think it has really improved my ability to mentally handle the stress of playing every single day.” Now in just 16 games played, Mann has hit for a .238 batting average, scored 14 times, driven in 10 RBIs, and hit one home run for the Larks. So far so good for Aaron Mann, who is enjoying every moment he gets on the diamond.
DETAILS MATTER. We want to keep you up-to-date on all Larks details. In the last edition of the Playball Program we featured Dylan Perry, who was on a temporary contract. We are happy to annouce Perry has signed a full-time contract and will be here for the remainder of the season.

LARKS KID OF THE YEAR
EVA BROOKE BY WILL SATLER While most middle school girls are busy making friends, finishing homework, and playing sports, Larks Kid of the Year Eva Brooke is helping homeless people in her community. She has already learned how helping others can make her feel happy too and has big plans for her future. Brooke is a 12-year-old at St. Mary’s Academy School in Bismarck. With the help of her mom, she hands out gift bags to homeless people she sees while they drive. “One day, me and my mom were driving across south McDonalds and we saw a homeless person outside,” Brooke said. “I told my mom, ‘we should really do something to help.’” She had seen other people give out bags to homeless people and Brooke had the idea to bring it to the next level. She started filling giant Ziplock bags with helpful items. She even had one set of items for summer and a different set for winter. The winter items include socks, a hat, gloves, tissues, hand warmers, toothpaste and brush, deodorant, wet wipes, gum and food such as granola bars and crackers. The summer items are similar, but without warm clothing and they include sunscreen and water instead. Every bag includes $5. “Every time I that I give one out, it always feels really good, because you always see the smiles on their face,” Brooke said. “You can just see how happy that makes them.” The bags go beyond just the material items, they are an encouraging wish to the people receiving them. There is a handwritten note inside with words of encouragement and “God bless you.” “I love to help people,” Brooke said. “Whenever I can do anything to help, it just makes me feel good.” She has dreams of making a career out of helping the homeless. She calls it the “Homeless Hotel.” Adults can live, work and go to school at the hotel. She would manage and teach at the hotel. It is a big dream for a young girl. In the meantime, she is planning to continue handing out her bags and already has some ready for winter. Eva was honored at the ballpark on June 2nd as the MDU Resources Kid of the Year. She received free Bismarck Larks tickets and jersey, a video feature, and a $1,000 grant placed in a saving account at the Bank of North Dakota. Nominations for the next Kid of the Month are open today at larksbaseball.com.

PRINCIPLES TO PAIRING BEEF WITH ALCOHOL Whether your beef meal is mild or robust, sweet or spicy, light or hearty, there is a perfect beer or wine to complement the dish. Like a perfect seesaw, a bite of beef should make you want to take a sip of your drink and the drink should make you want to take another bite. While it all comes down to personal preference, we have compiled some general guidelines to finding the perfect pairing.
PRINCIPLES TO PAIRING Simple Senses- Your smell is the strongest sense, so use this to your advantage. Take a few short sniffs of the beer or wine to get a good hint of the flavor profile. Don’t forget your other senses though. Mouthfeel is important to determine the “weight” or “body” of the drink and the dish should be similar. Power Matching - You can’t go wrong matching a flavor of the drink with flavor of the dish. Robust flavors should be paired with a robust wine or flavorful beer. A general rule-of-thumb is the beefier flavor the dish or cut has, the more robust or flavorful beverage you’ll want. You also can’t go wrong if you match the dish’s region with a drink from the area.
Go Out of the Box - When it comes down to it, it’s all about your personal preference. Be brave and try your own pairings! If you’re hosting a party, know your audience and their preferences (or ask their preferences). Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment and try different dishes and drinks!
PAIRING BEEF WITH BEER The versatility of beer cannot be ignored when it comes to pairing with beef. The perfect pairing of beef and beer can bring out the best of any meal. Along with the basics of pairing a drink to an overall dish, beer can be also be complemented by the specific beef cut. When it comes to steak and beer, robust cuts like the Ribeye or Hanger Steak go great with dark beers like a stout or porter. While less robust cuts such as the Flank or Top Round Steak go well with Pilsners and Lagers.
Balance the Scales - If you have a spicy dish, a high alcohol content drink will keep your mouth on fire while balancing it with something smoother and lower alcohol content will balance the heat. A dish like creamy pasta would be best with a lighter drink as it will help cut through the flavors. Scrub with Bubbles - The more carbonation in the beer, the better at cleansing your palate of flavors - especially fatty foods. With wine, the drier the drink, the better it matches with fattier cuts. Use it in the Dish - Whatever you use to cook, whether it’s beer or wine, should be something that you would want to pair and drink with the meal. 20 | Larks Program Edition Six

MARLYLIN FOSS WHY DID YOU BECOME A LARKETTE? This is my first year as a Larkette. I saw an ad in the Bismarck Tribune and thought that it might be fun. I like dancing and music. This was the perfect way to showcase this passion of mine.
This is my first year being a Larkette, I love every minute of it. I like dancing, being outside and meeting all kinds of new people. The response from the crowd is amazing. Clark the Lark is always great at entertaining the fans with us. WHAT IS A FUN FACT THAT WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU? Most people think that I am bashful, but I am definitely not. I enjoy my social time, especially over at Touchmark. I also lived in Emmons County in North Dakota for most of my life before I moved to Bismarck.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT PERFORMING AT THE BALLPARK? I love getting to know the other ladies. Since I do not live at Touchmark with them, I didn’t know any of them before joining the Larkettes. WHAT IS A FUN FACT ABOUT YOU? I spent 40 years practicing law before retiring in Bismarck. I worked with financial institutions and lobbying. I am also a member of the Silver Sneakers, I love exercising through them in addition to the Larkettes. I have always been intrigued by the dancer side of classes.

Clark’s LIVE MUSIC | GAMES FOR ALL BISMARCK'S LARGEST BIRTHDAY CAKE
A DAY IN THE LIFE
MERIFEATHER LEWIS BY IAN ZAGAESKI Merifeather Lewis is the sweet yet sassy sidekick of Clark the Lark. We all know the work side of Merifeather, but we don’t know what she does with her downtime. Today, I have the inside scoop on what Merifeather does before, after, and on her off days. I began following Merifeather the morning of June 21st, the day of the Larks vs. Minnesota Mud Puppies game. Her day starts with a one-hour-long glam session followed by a two-hour bird bath. For breakfast, she eats organic oats with gooseberries and tea. After breakfast, she makes sure that her outfit for the day is immaculate before heading to work. Before game time, she comes to the office to answer her fan mail. During the game day, she does her regular routine of greeting fans, annoying Clark, taking Selfies with fans, and giving fans warm hugs. After the game, she takes another two-hour bird bath and watches her favorite show, Grey's Anatomy. On her off days, Meri Feather enjoys cleaning and redecorating her bird house. After redecorating her home, she flies down to Harmon Lake, takes a walk on the trails, and will greet fans on her walk. Recently, Merifeather has been taking pottery classes and has been perfecting her vase-making skills. Some of the vases she has made are exceptional, just like her. Sometimes Merifeather calls her best friend Clark to see if he wants to go to a movie, but Clark usually refuses since the movies Merifeather likes are chick flicks, and Clark hates chick flicks. Her favorite chick flick is Mama Mia! She is a big fan of Meryl Streep and hopes to be as famous as her. Merifeather goes to the best restaurant in town every Friday and treats herself to a delicious dinner.

HOST FAMILY FEATURE
THE GOOD FAMILY BY NAAMAN SMITH The Good’s love baseball and love the Larks. They are one of our host families this season, they’re hosting infielder Aaron Mann from Drury University. We had the pleasure to talk with their family and ask them some questions about how great it’s been being a host family. WHAT ABOUT BEING A HOST FAMILY IS DIFFERENT THAN JUST BEING A REGULAR FAN? “Before we’d only go to 7-pack games but now we get to go to as many home games as we can make it to. It’s way more baseball and way more fun. We also get to hear some of the cool dugout stories,” Ethan said. “It gives you a particular player who you’re rooting for like a parent because we know him off the field. The other day I was walking downstairs and heard that Aaron hit a home run and I got really excited and had to rewind the TV back so the family could see Aaron’s big hit,” Jamie said. “We’ve had the pleasure of learning Aaron’s journey of how he made it to the Larks and all the work that he’s put in during his career. Makes you an even bigger fan than we were before,” Erin Good said. WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE EXPERIENCES BEING A HOST FAMILY? “The first week Aaron [Mann] was here we played a game of kickball. It was Aaron and I vs. Patrick and Dad. Aaron and I ended up winning,” Ethan said. WHAT IS SOMETHING ETHAN AND PATRICK DO EVERY WEEK WITH AARON? We watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney Plus together once a week when the episodes come out. It’s been fun doing that together,” Ethan said. HOW DOES ALICIA UHDE, LARKS HOST FAMILY COORDINATOR HELP WITH THE TRANSITION OF PLAYERS JOINING HOST FAMILIES? Alicia [Uhde] does a great job matching families with players. We felt like from the beginning, Aaron was a perfect fit for us. Aaron was an Eagle Scout and both of our boys are Cub Scouts. They all share a love for baseball and other commonalities that made it easy to have him be a part of our family,” Erin said. HOW HAS IT BEEN HAVING SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY STAY WITH YOU? It was pretty cool to hear that Aaron went to Central High School, which is the same school the Little Rock Nine went to. Also, Aaron will experience Costco for his first time ever with the Good’s this summer. Aaron is from Arkansas, the state where Walmart originated and their headquarters are at, so he doesn’t have a Costco back home. We’re very excited to show Aaron all the samples Costco has,” Patrick said.

KAITLYN MACK LARKS FANS, WOW, can you believe it's already July? Summer is flying by and we're halfway through the 2022 season. On behalf of myself and our entire Bismarck Larks team, we want to thank you for taking the time to fill out our weekly homestand surveys. Your responses have provided our team with valuable feedback. We have, and will continue to make changes and adjustments every game to help better your experience. Based on your recent feedback and suggestions, we have made it our priority to put an emphasis on the following:
• •
•
BUN QUALITY. Say goodbye to dry buns. You will notice we have moved towards leaving all buns in their original packaging versus placing them in large containers. We hope this will help alleviate buns from drying out quickly and as often. PA AND MUSIC VOLUME. Too loud? Too muffled? We hear you loud and clear. Our game day entertainment team is continually working towards improving the quality of sound throughout the ballpark. We’ve made adjustments to help ensure the volume is not too loud, not too soft and can be clearly heard in all areas. We’ve even scaled back our music between pitches to provide you with light background music so you can continue to score the game, visit with friends or sing-along. FOOD CONSISTENCY. We may not be the best restaurant in town, but we do want to be the best ballpark meal you eat all summer. That’s why we’ve invested in a new 15 foot grill trailer to help grill all your favorite ballpark foods. Our focus is quality and consistency. We want your food experience to continue to improve this season. Check out the new grill trailer on your way out of the ballpark near the front entrance!
As valued members of our Flock, we want to provide you, your friends and your family with the best experience possible when it comes to food, service and entertainment. We encourage you to tell us how we are doing by filling out our weekly homestand surveys or by emailing me at kaitlyn@larksbaseball.com. We always value your feedback. Thanks again for your honesty and your support. We are always at your service, Kaitlyn
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Tell us about your experience. Share your thoughts, feedback and stories with me at kaitlyn@larksbaseball.com.
