In our special section on Navratras, we tell you what to wear and how to wear and where to buy the Dancing dresses. Dussehra signifies the win of good over evil. It celebrates the victory of God Ram over Ravana. It teaches us the lesson to be good ourselves and to inculcate goodness in our future generations. Whatever be the circumstances, its best to hold on to ethical moral values. We also celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on the 2nd October. It’s the birthday of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. We all should take out some time on this day, to think about this great man who fought for India’s freedom. October also ushers in the season of marriages. STRIKE OFF YOUR CRASH DIET PLAN

Balancing Exercise and Nutrition is the in Thing!

W

e all have a jam packed schedule from Monday to Friday, work, meetings, traffic jams, all eat into our scarce time. Weekends are even busier, there are things at home that need our attention urgently, we need family time, we need to socialize and yes of course we need that very precious “me” time. But, unfortunately, all of us have 24 hours in a day and we need to squeeze in all the activities in this time. Due to this crunch of time, we regularly ignore one aspect of our life that is, ourselves. We keep complaining about our ever increasing flab but we don’t do anything about it. So, one fine day, we decide to go on a crash diet. We decide to skip meals and starve ourselves so that we can lose those extra inches that we have gained. But, do you know how badly that affects our body? The right thing to do is to balance exercise with the right nutrition. Firstly, please fix an appointment with that nutritionist you’ve been delaying to meet for months now. She will decide what, when and how much to eat based on your current lifestyle and status of nutrition. She might suggest few lifestyle changes like sleeping a little early, going to a gym, practicing yoga, avoiding junk food, having lots of fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water (which you will hate), but in the end you know it’s good for your body, so please strictly follow what she says. Secondly, follow the diet chart strictly, we know you love that cheesy pizza and that sinful chocolate brownie, we know how you lust at the sight of “Mysore bhajji’s”, but please refrain from these till you get that perfect hour glass figure or get rid of those extra inches around your waist. Once you decide to stick to your schedule, come what may, you will be able to do it. It’s all in the will power, trust us. Thirdly, be a regular at the gym you joined once upon a time and have now forgotten about. Please respect yourself. Your body is the last thing that you should be ignoring. After all, it helps you do what you love doing.

- By Anshima Gupta 20 OCTOBER, 2012

ujuta Diwekar, the celebrity nutritionist, who taught India that simple eating is the way to a million dollar body was at Hyderabad at a local bookstore to talk about her book “Women and the Weight Loss Tamasha”. She breaks myths on diets and interacts with people in an open session. She has worked with people from all walks of life on fitness and diet related issues. Her celebrity clients include Kareena Kapoor, Anil Ambani, Saif Ali Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma and Preity Zinta. She has redefined dieting with her nostalgic approach towards a healthy lifestyle. She believes in following a common sense approach to eating and that’s Eating Right. “Ghaar ka Khana,Ghee, dal and Sabzi” is what she recommends. She tells us that Hyderabadi’s Eat local but think and look global….

biscuits, cereals, packed wafers, milk mixers etc, they are all fattening. Eat ghar ka khana , don’t replace your lunches or dinners with packaged food, you are not lessening but increasing your calories.

Breaking all myths on diets How do we increase the nutrient intake? You must eat within 15 minutes of getting up. Eat every two hours and eat more when you are active and less when you are not and finish your meal two hours before sleeping and basically there are 5 rules to increasing the nutrient content: 1.

Eat food which is prepared fresh and eat within 3 hours of cooking.

2.

Eat your vegetables and fruits whole, don’t cut them or mash them into juices.

3.

Remain loyal to your genes, eat what you have been eating since childhood.

4.

Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables, for example mangoes in summer.

Why should one eat less post sunset? Post sunset your activity level goes down. This way most of our food is to be digested before going to sleep and this leads to a sound sleep and this leaves your body free to do its repair work. How much sleep is adequate? Sound sleep is most essential, integral and non negotiable aspect of loosing the body fat. I over emphasise the importance of restfull and peaceful sleep. It is one thing your body must have if you want a narrower waist, flatter stomach and toned body. When you get up fresh without an alarm, that amount of sleep is adequate. Even if you oversleep, you won’t be fresh.

Eat local and think global? To think big, to think global and to think beyond your limitations, the body must be well nourished and the mind must be calm. Eat food which is rich in nutrients. Eat food which is locally available because the longer the food has travelled before landing in your plate the longer your navel will travel away from your spine i.e. a fatter stomach. What about packed food? Packed food is one thing everyone needs to avoid. Avoid your diet food, your multigrain

What about tea and coffee, are they healthy? Or is it appropriate to switch to green tea? Tea and coffee should be avoided as the first thing in the morning when you wake up. Apart from that you can have it twice a day, your regular filter coffee or masala chai is just fine. You don’t need to force yourself to have green tea, tulsi tea or any such “low calorie” beverages. Just stick to your basics but not more than two cups a day.

V

ijaya is one of the most popular Zumba fitness Instructor in town. She is successfully running Zumba classes in the city with more emphasis in corporate and gated housing communities. She came across AQUA ZUMBA® a while back and enrolled herself for international certification and successfully completed the training recently in Bangalore.

What is AQUA ZUMBA®? AQUA ZUMBA® is a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. AQUA ZUMBA® is a fitness discipline which incorporates various Latin American and popular international rhythms and dances modified to the aquatic environment without losing the basic identity and flavor which makes it so much more fun than doing normal exercise on land. Splashing, stretching, twisting, shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during these classes. Anyone doing AQUA ZUMBA® will work on aerobic endurance, muscle resistance, flexibility and joint mobility all at the same time in a fun and enjoyable environment. It is a low impact total body fitness workout which gives the participants a pool party experience for people of all fitness levels. What are the benefits of AQUA ZUMBA®? AQUA ZUMBA® in addition to the excitement and fun of working out in water, allows an individual to exercise without stressing their joints due to the decrease in the force of gravity. Working constantly against the resistance of the water increases lean muscle mass and burns more calories than normal exercises. It also increases muscle endurance, muscle flexibility and joint mobility. AQUA ZUMBA® involves large range of motions for achieving proper body balance. For the same intensity of exercise on land, heart rates are lower in water which basically means that one can train harder without the heart working as hard. When working out in water, one will be using muscles that are normally passive on land. Moving against the multidirectional resistance of water, works all the muscles and helps promote muscle balance. It is beneficial to older adults and pregnant women too. What are the precautions one should take before enrolling for AQUA ZUMBA® ? It is always recommended that AQUA ZUMBA® participants check with their family physician prior to starting if they have a history of any chronic problems. Trained instructors like me vary the intensity of exercises to ensure a balanced workout which includes warming up and stretching exercises. It is very important to drink sufficient water to keep the body hydrated during AQUA ZUMBA®. Proper comfortable apparel which allows freedom and movement is preferred. If working out in water, which tends to be cooler, it is worth buying neoprene vests and jackets that help maintain body temperature while working out. Aquatic fitness shoes are also preferred to prevent injury from impact on pool floor. What is the fees structure for AQUA ZUMBA® and schedule of class in a week? It is advisable that one should go for two AQUA ZUMBA® classes in a week initially. The fees for AQUA ZUMBA® is relatively higher than normal ZUMBA® class as the cost of hiring a pool and maintenance charges increase the cost. It may seem that the initial expenditure on apparel is higher but in the long run it is well worth it.

Look Trendy with Hair Accessories The trend of hair accessories started long back during the time of Kings and Queens rule. The Prince used to adorn the peacocks feather over his turban to depict royalty and status and the Princess used to decorate their hair with beautiful and elegant Tiaras. Tiaras are the crowns; they were a sign of royalty. What started as a means of separating the classes from the masses is now a fashion everyone tries to keep up with. We often see models wearing lovely hair accessories while showcasing collections for couturiers across the world, and they look oh-so-glam! A hair accessory essentially helps you stand out of the crowd.

T

here are different types of hair accessories available in the market, a hair accessory can be as simple as a clutch or it can be as complex as a tiara. Also, you will always find hair accessories that suit you, you don’t have to worry about the length of your hair or your hair texture, there are “n” number of hair accessories in the market and some or the other hair accessory is going to suit you. So, go ahead, we give you lots of “Gyaan” on hair accessories. Hair accessories serve 2 purposes, either you use it to keep your hair in place or you use it for adding glam to your look. The right hair accessory can accentuate your hairstyle no matter what type of enhancement you choose. Barrettes, clips and pins are extremely

plentiful and easy to locate. You can find these with many different types of embellishment or they can simply add a touch of color. You can easily find them with bows and ribbons, leather, pearls, fruit, butterflies, etc. The choice of these is truly endless depending on what you require for whatever outfit you want to enhance. Another popular hair accessory you can easily find is the ponytail holder. You can find these with beads or other trinkets on them, made of synthetic hair, wood, acrylic, or ribbon covered to add extra appeal to your tresses. If you don’t want to

damage your hair remember not to use rubber bands, there are many different types of man-made bands you can use. If you just want to pull your hair away from your face a headband is a good choice. Some headbands can have floral patterns, faux gemstones and even the fabric can be part of the decoration and some even have combs attached to them for added gripping ability. Headbands can range from narrow to wide and can be made of silicone, metal, acrylic or stretchy fabric. Hair combs have been used to dress the hair for centuries. They can be of any size from miniature to a single, big comb. When decorated with flowers or gems they can be used for a more formal event to add personal style

pins. Some bobby pins are decorated with flowers, studs or butterflies.

to a dress. The plainer wooden types can be a quick way to add polish to a casual up do. A hair flower is an attractive accessory and can be worn to accent a casual outfit or to highlight a party dress. Everything from familiar flowers to exotic blooms can be used and you can choose from many sizes and colors to complement your taste. Some of the flowers can have glitter sprayed on for a touch of bling or others have small items affixed to them for added interest. Just like the hairclip, bobby pins are one the must-haves in hair adornment list. Women simply cannot twist, turn and style hair strands without the help of the ever useful bobby

Other hair accessories are feathers, hair extensions and braids. Extensions or braids can be clipped on for a temporary style change or you can go to a hair salon and have them permanently set into your hair. Feathers seem to be a popular add-on and can also be temporary or permanent. The colors and styles of all three can provide the perfect highlight in your hair.

Having said that, let me issue a word of caution. Please do not over accessorize. It’s ok to use one or two hair accessories at a time but anything more than that is a strict no – no. The trick is in using one hair accessory that perfectly complements your look. Too much is not necessarily too good, it can be too bad too, remember that. Also accessorize according to the occasion, you can wear Tiaras while you are heading for a wedding and you are appropriately dressed, it would be ridiculous to wear a Tiara for a casual occasion or maybe at a pub, you may garner attention for all the wrong reasons. Accessorize appropriately, and hog the lime light!!

You can find hair accessories to fit your individual preference and to convey your personal style. Find the perfect accessory for you and let your hair shine!

A Day From Niroop Kumar Red dy’s Diary..

TULIP

LIFESTYLE

I generally wake up by 6-6.30 in the morning. I practice yoga in the mornings because it helps me stay fresh, calm, composed and stress free throughout the day. I read newspapers. I spend some time with my kids during this time, as that’s the only time I get to play with them during the entire day because by the time I reach home at 8-8.30 pm they have had their dinner and are off to sleep. Sometimes I have to visit sites in the morning itself, so I visit the site and reach office by 9.30-10 am.

After reaching office, I draft a list of what needs to be done during the day. Sometimes I have appointments with my clients, staff or workers. I generally discuss plans and designs with the staff members during this time. I have an open door policy; staff members can walk in any time to clarify their doubts. It depends on the urgency of the matter that I prioritize my schedule.

Sometimes during late evenings, I take my sketches to my terrace garden and sit in harmony and sketch. It’s great upstairs and it is peaceful too. I am really passionate about my work and that is why sometimes I prefer staying back and doing my sketches in my office when all the employees have left. This is the time when I am the most creative.

I generally have lunch at around 2-2.30 in the afternoon. My wife, Rupana comes around 11-11.30 and brings my lunch along. She is an interior designer and she takes responsibility for residential plans mostly. We both have discussions over our work and ongoing projects. She takes care of my office in my absence. We recently thought of diversifying into architecture from interiors.

Sometimes during evenings I am on some site, supervising work. Till date, I have not hired a single supervisor because I personally visit all my sites. The quality of materials and final finish is very important to me. I ensure not to leave rough edges anywhere in my work. I don’t take chances with my work and deliver on my clients expectations. Probably, that’s why clients trust and love my work.

I generally leave office by 8-8.30 at night. My children have already slept by then. I spend some time with my wife. We have dinner together and we have our usual post dinner chats. We discuss everything apart from our work. We also watch TV together. Also, on weekends I meet up with my friends in a pub for a good time. I am very jovial and my friends love my company. My wife generally does not accompany me because she is not the “party goer” kinds. Also, I have a hobby of collecting watches. 26 OCTOBER, 2012

DESIGNER TOUCH FOR YOUR HOME

The most important work you and I will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes.

Wall Stencils

Harold B. Lee

Wall stencils are an easy and often affordable way to add patterns and unique design elements to a room. By securing the stencil to the wall and painting over it, or painting everything except the stencil, a plain wall can become a garden of patterns, colors, and even whole scenes. It simply means replicating an image on a wall surface either by using a permanent marker free-hand or else a stencil that serves a template for outlining. Available at craft stores and art supply or specialty websites, wall stencils are fun for all ages and can turn a room from boring to fabulous quickly.

Wall stencils can be a fun and inexpensive method of decorating children's rooms. Using a stencil with the alphabet cut out, spell out the child's name in bright letters above his or her bed. A stencilled room has a charm of its own. It can highlight existing features such as arches and fireplaces, and make featureless interiors more interesting. More than being a current home decor trend, wall stencil is more original, innovative and costfriendly than designer wallpapers that have limited customizing options. Using wall stencils can be a great alternative for people who want to paint but do not trust their artistic abilities to actually put the designs up on a wall. Knowing basic painting techniques, such as using a darker color for shadows or a lighter color for highlights, can help make the completed design more detailed and beautiful. Yet even total novices can have a blast with a few small jars of paint and a pack of stencils, letting their imagination run wild and their stencil be their guide.

Wall Decals Wall Decals are also known as vinyl stickers or wall tattoos which we can stick to the walls and remove them without any hassles if we decide to give a new look to the room. These are great for decorating kids, toddlers or infant's bedroom, and can also be used in living room and bedroom; we can use candles, pots or green plants to accessories and match the wall art theme. Wall Decals can be found on www.jabong.com & www.ebay.in as Wall Stickers. Price ranges from Rs. 500 to Rs. 3000 per piece.

CUSTOMIZATION KING

LuxuryOnWheels We women folk have always wondered why men are so obsessed with machines. They look at a Lamborghini and they sigh, “She will be my wife one day”. They can ignore looking at a hot, curvaceous, beautiful chick, but they just can’t help turning heads, if a car they aspire for, passes by them. We women have mulled over it, talked over it and argued over it, but, to no avail. Men just have their way. Men have a need to feel powerful. When he creates something innovative he feels he is in command. What started as a hobby for Kishan Lohiya is now his passion accomplished. Meet the man himself, Kishan Lohiya, an entrepreneur by profession and a car customization king by passion. “I always had a passion for everything big. I was very fascinated with big military tanks during my childhood,” he reminisces. Being a thorough automobile buff (he’s the owner of the first Hayabusa 1330 cc

bike in India for the 2011 model, a BMW and a Skoda), he did not like the design of the branded SUV’s in the country. And, there he was, customizing SUV’s according to his “visualization”. “I don’t use a computer to design cars. It’s all in my head,” he says. He first customized a car at the age of 18. He converted a Maruti Gypsy into a 2 seater Pick up Truck. At the tender age of 18, when guys are more interested in the “girl-next-door”,

He sources most accessories from abroad; he got the tires and winch from the USA and air snorkel from Australia. “That must have cost you a bomb”, I exclaimed. “Yes, it did, I don’t use old cars for customization and I don’t use any fiber or plastic, I use only metal sheets,” he tells me. He stumps me again and how. He has 3 customizations to his name in total. Apart from the Maruti Gypsy customization he has customized a Mahindra Scorpio into a

our wonder boy’s sole girl friend/wife was his first innovation. I am surprised at the talent and feat he had achieved at such a young age. I quickly ask him the next question. Were your parents not angry/surprised when you told them about your passion? “Initially, they did not like it but when they saw my finished work, they really appreciated and supported me. I did the first customization from my savings; I did not ask my parents for any money.” He surprises me with his mettle yet again.

Kishan has had offers from investors to make car customization his business, but he strictly believes in following this as his passion and not as a profession. A cruzer bike might be his next customization to watch out for. Apart from receiving appreciation from people worldwide, he usually gets a thumbs up while he is driving on Hyderabad’s roads, “On red lights, people click photographs, they give my baby appreciating looks and that is a moment I totally love, I get so much attention,” he tells me all happy and content.

You find yourself in an oasis of absolute silence. Stress is kept outside. Even strong acceleration only lets you hear the merest whisper. The gigantic bonnet shrinks and the Ghost becomes a small car. The driver’s position is very high giving a fantastic view ahead. As soon as you reach the next traffic lights and stop, the car becomes a giant again and you look down on all the other drivers in their small cars (even those who do not seem to be small) or you can stare straight into the faces of the pedestrians.” That is what we call an epic experience. Period. We spoke to Manjula Narsa, the proud owner of this beautiful creation. A socialite and the wife of a construction business owner, she thinks the experience is totally worth the cost you pay for the car. “We initially had a Bentley Arnage, we later sold it and bought a

NAVRATRI

9 Days of Spirituality,Fun and Frolic...

The festival of fun and frolic, fasting and feasting is back and this year it has come back with more colour, brightness and vibrancy .The nine days and nine nights of celebration are here and the city is all geared up for this festive mood. Navratri meaning “nine nights” is among one of the most popularly celebrated festivals in the city. The festival honors Mother Goddesses in all her manifestations including Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati. It’s a festival of worship, dance, celebration and it shows the victory of good over evil on the tenth day. Each goddess is worshiped for three days in turn, starting with Goddess Durga who destroys negative tendencies. Next is Godess Lakshmi, who bestows good virtues and fortune, and last is Goddess Saraswati, who instills wisdom and spiritual knowledge. The worship, accompanied by fasting, takes place in the mornings. Evenings are for feasting and dancing. The entire city is geared up for the celebration, dance, food and fashion that the festival brings along. The first thing that comes to our mind when it’s Navratri is “Dandiya Raas” and “Raas Garba”. The events in the city are seen with beautiful dancers, both men and women putting their best foot forward. Several dance classes also provide crash courses for a week or so before the festivals for the amateur dancers. Ambica of Rang Manch says “We teach Garba and Dandiya, in Garba we teach different forms starting from basic garba and then also teen taali, panch taali and saath taali and our classes commence from the first week of October.” Several well trained dancers competing in the events are seen doing “other difficult” versions of Garba like Dodhiyu, Garbi, Heench, Popat, etc. And to those who thought dandiya sticks were just two bamboo sticks, today dandiya sticks come in various varieties ranging from steel dandiya sticks covered with multicolor carving and kundan works, or with bandhni or satin materials, or hand painted wooden dandiya sticks and also the very commonly used disco dandiya sticks. So, don’t just restrict yourself this Navratri to the bamboo sticks. Navratri and Dandiya is not just about the dance, it's also about the style that you carry during the nine days. Both men and women love to Navratri is a very special festival to me, as it signifies the festival of joy, celebration and the victory of good over evil. For years, I have been attending the Navratri event and every year I make sure to go on all nine. Dressed in traditional wear, my friends and I are all ready to dance the night and celebrate this beautiful festival. I also fast on all nine days but during the evenings I never feel the hunger as we are all engaged in the celebration. We have a pooja at home and office as well. And, this festival will always be very special and among my favorites. Vinit Agarwal, Entrepreneur 34 OCTOBER, 2012

be seen dressed in their best traditional attire. The women wear traditional dresses such as colorful embroidered choli, ghagra and bandhani dupattas glittering with mirror work and heavy jewelry, while men look very attractive in their traditional colorful kedias. This year Navratri fashion is going to be very rooted and traditional, so avoid your flared skirts, spaghettis and halter tops. Go ahead and grab the kalidar ghaghras and traditional backless cholis. And, keep the embroidery very subtle and not heavy. Girls can also opt for the knee length ghaghras with lots of kalis. Rabari style borders, gold Khadi print blouses and ghagras with plain and simple tikkiwork-dupattas are the right picks this season. Brocade blouses are also picking up. As for men, if they want to keep it very traditional they can opt for the kutchi bharat

Navratri meal has special courses and is strictly vegetarian. Even onion and garlic are not allowed, due to their foul smell. Special fasting dishes are prepared such as saboodana kichdi, kheer, vadas, singhare ki barfi , aloo mewawale, khuttu ki puri , sukhi arbi, singhade ka halwa etc.

SPECIAL

Navratri to me are the most exciting nine days of the year. I love to dance and this festival is all about dance and celebration to me, apart from that I also fast every Navratri and visit Mataji’s temples and read the Ramayana during the nine days. Fasting becomes easier during these nine days as evenings are occupied with Garba and Dandiya nights. I have been a regular for years for the dandiya events and make sure to attend it on all nine days. I find it the best way to catch up with my old friends and we have a blast celebrating this festival together.

As the Navratri is just around the corner, it is that time of the year again when one needs to get into the festive mood, putting on your best ethnic wear, dance with grace, fast and feast and start chanting “Bolo Durga Maiyya ki Jai!!!” The Garba festival is devoted to Mother Ambey and is a very special event which is celebrated with pomp and show. We, Gujaratis believe that this festival signifies the glory of bright colours togetherness and our traditional culture. At home, we offer prayers to Mataji and light the diya at six in the evening, we fast for all nine days and evening are filled with dance and celebration and on the tenth day, the mataji’s thali is circulated around the house which signifies the circulation of positivity and shakti and then we present it at the temple. This year, I have also organized an event on the 13th of October, where 18 teams are participating and there are around 300 participants and am very excited about this event. Beena Mehta, Socialite

Navratri is all about colours. The colours for this season are maroons, yellows greens, peacock blue etc. As a designer, I would suggest you stick to these bright colours also because there is lot of mud, these ghagras and kurta payjamas in dark colours are easier to maintain. Girls can definitely flaunt their backs with backless cholis and can also team up the choli with a pencil or skinny jeans, or keep it simple. Both men and women can team up their jeans with kalmkari kurtas as kalamkari kurtas and prints are the flavor of the season. A lot of wooden beaded accessories have also come up, so for the mix and match look, these are definitely a must. D Niranjan, Fashion Designer and owner of IWEE Styling store. kedias or rabari style kedia and dhoti in which you have a heavily embroidered piece of cloth tied around the waist. To keep it simpler, men can always opt for the kurta payjamas or even a simple kurta with jeans. Black, maroon, red, purple and mauve shades will rule this Navratri. Even the Old City is buzzing with the Navaratri preparations, with not just the streets bustling with people coming for bangles and other jewellery at Laad bazaar but even the dandiya night getting bigger this season. And, for the traditional wear, kedias and Ghaghras, there are several stores in Abids and Koti where beautiful traditional costumes can be bought. Festivals in India are incomplete without delicious food, and Navratri is no exception. Navratri is a long festival, which is celebrated continuously for nine days. Therefore, a variety of dishes are made and served

Dandiya is very special to me. Since dandiya and garba are the traditional dance form that represents the state Gujarat and I being a gujju gal this comes naturally to me. A lot of shopping is involved one month prior to the Navratri festival. There are many things I buy for dandiya like colourful chania cholis matching jewellery and stuff. This is the time where I get to meet all my friends and we have lots of fun. I have also been participating every year in the competition and my cousins and I start practicing a fortnight in advance. This year we are all geared up to win some prizes. Mausam Shah, Student

Turkey has so much to offer her visitors - breathtaking natural beauties, unique historical and archaeological sites, steadily improving hotel and touristic infrastructure and a tradition of hospitality and competitive prices. Therefore, it is not surprising that this country has recently become one of the world’s most popular tourism destinations.

Turkey Antalya

Antalya is the most stunning part of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. It is typical of Turkey, a thriving modern city, with a historic heart in the centre of Kaleiçi, within the old city walls. The symbol of Antalya is the fluted minaret or Yivli Minare built by the Seljuks in the 13th century. Antalya has a backdrop of stunning mountain scenery, and the city is set high on cliffs. The beach area of Lara is home to the best beach in the area and is known for its golden sand. Heading up into the mountains, you can make the most of the beautiful scenery by visiting the spectacular Düden or Kurşunlu waterfalls. At Saklıkent, you can even ski, where they usually have snow on the slopes until early April. The Altın Portakal (Golden Orange) film festival is held annually in the autumn.

– The Land of Diverse Geographies

Alanya

Alanya is a beautiful holiday centre with its clean sandy beaches, modern hotels and motels, as well as numerous fish speciality restaurants, cafes, clubs and bars. From the towns lovely park, the road runs along the coast to the harbor, lined with many small shops that offer handicrafts, leather clothes, jewellery, handbags and the amusing painted gourds that are unique to the area.

Bodrum

A world-renowned holiday and entertainment peninsula, Bodrum is a paradise for its climate, sea, natural beauty, magnificent coves and history, as well as for its modern nightlife where the show goes on until sunrise. Since the dawn of time, Bodrum, known in antiquity as Halicarnassus, has amazed human beings, and carried the imprint of many cultures and civilizations.

Bodrum Castle, built by The Knights of St. John, has become a symbol of the peninsula.

Due to Turkey’s diverse geography, one can experience four different climates in one day. The rectangular shaped country is surrounded on three sides by three different seas. Its shores are laced with beaches, bays, coves, ports, islands and peninsulas. Turkey is also blessed with majestic mountains and valleys, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and grottoes perfect for winter and summer tourism and sports of all kinds. Skiing fans, mountain climbers, trekkers, hikers and hunters can enjoy new and unforgettable experiences in Turkey. The huge amount of historical and archaeological wealth in Turkey seems more appropriate for an entire continent than a single country. 36 OCTOBER, SEPTEMBER, 2012 2012

Marmaris is one of Turkey’s most popular resort towns, which attracts lots of British holidaymakers. It is in a stunning setting, its geography remarkably similar to that of the fjords, with pine-clad hills dropping steeply to the sea, jagged inlets and tiny rocky islets off the coast. There are many water sports centers in Marmaris or at the coves, ready to assist you in surface or underwater sports adventures - including extreme sports. Fethiye is a traditional market town set around a beautiful natural harbor. It is a big centre for scuba diving and boats leave from here for daily trips around the stunning coastline. In the evenings, head for this lively area for live music and bars.

Ölüdeniz has a typical postcard beach, backed by dramatic pine-clad hills. Boats leave from the bay for trips around the surrounding coast and paragliding is a big draw with the descent from the Babadağ Mountains to land on Belcekız beach, recognized as one of the best in the world.

Göcek

Göcek, a free motor traffic town, has numerous and beautiful coves, is the most popular spot for the yachts and Blue Cruise boats. It is a meeting point for international celebrities and has four marinas, small shops and restaurants.

İstanbul

İstanbul is the only city in the world built on two continents. It is the capital for art and culture with a rich tradition in opera and ballet, theatres, concerts, art exhibitions, festivals, auctions, conferences and of course unique museums. At every turn in the city, you are faced with Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman palaces, mosques, churches, monasteries, monuments, walls and ruins. Yet İstanbul is not a city living only on its past. It is a vibrant, modern and future-oriented metropolis. Bazaars and ultra-modern shopping centers and department stores, street vendors and stockbrokers, old crumbling buildings and sky-

scrapers coexist and this amalgam gives the city a multi-faceted outlook and flavor.

The city, known as “Beautiful İzmir” in Turkey, is located at the start of a long and narrow gulf, decorated with yachts, passenger ships and gulf steamers. The most popular beaches in the province include beaches at Pamucak, Altınkum, Gümüldür and Özdere in the south, Urla, Ceşme, Ilıca, Alaçatı in the east, as well as those at Dikili, Çandarlı, Foça, and Ören in the north.

In recent years, Kalkan has become an ‘in spot’ for upmarket couples seeking a taste of authentic Turkey. It is a pretty village of stonebuilt houses set on a hillside around the attractive harbor. The stunning white terraces of Pamukkale and the neighboring site of Hierapolis are situated inland. Pamukkale literally means ‘cotton castle’ and is one of Turkey’s most impressive natural wonders. It is made up of a series of white travertine terraces cascading down a cliff, which is almost 200 meters high. The hard, white mineral deposits, which from a distance resemble snow, are caused by the high mineral content of the natural spring water, which runs down the cliff and congregates in warm pools on the terraces. Those who want to enjoy the thermal waters, however, can take a dip in the nearby pool, littered with fragments of marble pillars. It was the thermal waters, which lead to the founding of the spa town of Hierapolis.

All the guys went gaga over her sexy, toned midriff and all the girls aspired to have a hot body like her to show off. We all just fell in love with her extraordinary style statement. She flaunted her tiny-winy waist by teaming crop tops with a mini skirt and by teaming Crop T-Shirts with low waist skinny jeans. Now, you must be wondering, how to carry a crop top? Is it necessary to bare the midriff? What if I have a slight tummy and I still want to flaunt the trend? Relax, ladies, we have answers to all your questions. ropped Tube Top – So, you want to party tonight and you’re tired of wearing your LBD’s and you don’t exactly know what to wear to look outstanding and different from the crowd. Why not go for a cropped tube top? Team up a solid color tube top with skinny jeans. Accessorize with metal junk jewellery to glam it up. Alternately, if you’re heading for a formal occasion then you can wear a jacket over your crop top. You can also team it up with high waisted skirt, trousers or jeans, they are just so in these days. Flaunt your sassy pumps, to give you that diva like flare and attitude. Now hit the club with confidence and style. But before donning this ultra sexy and uber chic look, we offer you a word of caution. Crop tops can sometimes look over the top, so it is best to follow some style rules so as to look good. A low waist pair of jeans or a pair of cut away summer shorts teamed with a crop top may be a tad too much. The idea is to hint at sexuality, not project it overtly. Keep it simple silly. Follow your own style quotient and show the world, that you’ve arrived and how!

INDIAN WEDDING TROUSSEAU Women are generally very excited about their ensemble shopping when the wedding of any of their close ones is nearing. The wedding functions these days stretch as long as a week. There have to be different ensembles for different occasions like Sangeet , Mehendi, Wedding and Reception. We bet, going out for wedding shopping with friends is a hobby for most of the ladies. Here are some important points before you shop; places where you can shop and latest ethnic trousseau that you will love. While shopping for your friends, relatives or your own 40 OCTOBER, 2012

Wedding

wedding trousseau, it is good to go further on with a plan of action. Prepare a list of all the functions and what you will require. Also, set aside a budget in mind so that you don’t end up spending all the money on one or two outfits. Try to go for a different look for every function. So, if you are planning to wear a saree for your mehendi, wear something different for your cocktail or sangeet. Unlike a mehndi function, a cocktail or a sangeet involves dancing, moving around and being on your toes. Hence, choose your clothes and shoes

accordingly. Do not repeat colours; it just takes away the grace from a beautiful and expensive outfit. Also, remember to go for subtle colours and pastel shades for day functions. Prepare all your accessories, shoes and jewelry according to your dresses, well in advance for the functions. There are several exhibitions in the city around your wedding, so you can go ahead and have a look and if you like something you can pick it up. You can also have a talk with your designer and decide what to wear.

It is usually touted as six yards of grace. Considered to be the most iconic Indian garment, the saree goes thousands of years back in history. In its relatively recent emergence internationally, the saree has been applauded for its celebration of femininity and its fluidity as a costume that can be refashioned to suit changing times. In sarees, there are different materials, which you would like to wear as it is very elegant; it can go with any occasion from mehendi to Reception.

KINSHIP

Love is the epitome of perfection. Its purity and sanctity is at par with God. Unfortunately, in these frenzied times it is difficult to see love at its purest and fullest. Yet, this couple, Saif and Moona, stand out and gives us a reason to believe in the archaic and long forgotten principles of togetherness and bonding…

L ove is perfect and so a re We !

She is beautiful, charming, eye-catching, outgoing, easy going, cheerful, chirpy and people friendly. Meet, Yaseen Khakashan, better known as Moona in the social circuit. She takes you away with her moonlit, ever smiling face. She’s an excellent hostess; she greets you with a smile and makes sure you’re looked after well, so you know you’re in good hands. A perfect combination of beauty and brains, she is straight out from Ayn Rand’s novels. The practical one in the relationship, she candidly admits that she provides the dynamism that their relationship demands. He is handsome, well built, sensitive, secretive, calm, reserved, cautious, passionate and classy. Meet, Syed Majidullah Saif, better known as Saif in the social circuit. A poet, a painter, an art lover and an ardent vintage car collector, his interests and demeanor depict royalty. He is courtly in his gesture and it rings in his voice too. He has an eye for detail and it shows in his correct French pronunciations. The man in the relationship, he courted Moona like any real man would; taking initiative, making up for the fights, being sensitive to her emotions and listening to her. 46 OCTOBER, 2012

On asking about their marriage, pat comes the reply, “Ours is an arranged cum love marriage, his mom approached mine through a common relative”, says Moona. “My mother really liked her in the photograph and we

cancelled seeing other girls we had earlier decided on, just because she really appealed to my mother”, Saif reminisces. The couple shares an excellent chemistry; we witnessed that during the photo shoot too. Together they make a picture perfect couple. They are like one complete puzzle without a single piece missing. They make up for each other in every possible way. Moona is practical and Saif is emotional. Saif is reserved and Moona is outgoing. Saif has selected, trusted friends while Moona is a friend to everyone. One completing the other or I would rather say that the couple compliments each other. Two very different individuals joined by the thread of love, appreciation and trust for each other. Aren’t couples supposed to be exactly like this? I was asking myself this question all the time. They first met in a posh hotel of Hyderabad. It was strictly a family affair where both the families met to decide / discuss the future of their children. I asked Saif what his first impression of Moona was, “I was floored,” He says and you can easily make that out in the twinkling of his eyes. “She was simple; clad in

I ask them what they talked and how their conversation went. “It was an easy flowing conversation, absolutely effortless,” says Saif. Moona chips in, “He just told me that he is looking for a nice girl”. They discussed their families, hobbies, friends, interests, and other mundane but important things. The point to know is that the conversations went on without any initial hesitation and glitch. We call this chemistry at first sight. Not many of us are lucky enough to feel this; in fact some

of us never feel it, even after many years into our marriage. “After the first meeting, I called her up after two days and we spoke until morning,” Saif adds. Call it the Taurean-Virgo karmic connection (Moona is a Taurean and Saif is a Virgo) or there instant rapport building or “Kismat Connection”, there was absolutely no looking back after this. Their casual dating started after this full night conversation. “I used to meet him every evening under the pretext of music classes. I used to fain going to music classes, while I actually went to meet him. He used to pick me up,” a beaming Moona tells. Romance ensued and the lovey - dovey period of sweet - nothings began. After a month of meeting and getting to know each other, our Mr. Perfect aka Saif popped the question and that too in his “Nawabi” royal style. “I booked an

Tired of trying to find any downside to their relationship, I conclude that they are perfect, their relationship is perfect, their family life is perfect and things can actually be perfect. law treat me like their daughter.”

a white salwar-kamiz with her head covered, she looked mesmerizing,” he adds. Taken aback by her beauty, Saif did not lose time in asking his father if he could spend some time with Moona alone. Let it be known that the family scenario for both the sides is a tad bit conservative and it would have taken Saif, our boy, every ounce of courage to ask his father this dreaded question. I gave him a thumbs up at the courage he displayed. I asked Moona what her first impression of Saif was, “he was not like a typical Hyderabadi guy, He was open minded, nice and decent and last but not the least, he had an impeccable dressing sense which truly struck me,” she tells me in her bubbly charm.

I walk out of their kingdom with content in my heart and a slight smile on my face. The hostess bids me good bye, I wave to her, turn, cross my fingers and murmur to myself, “Love can be perfect and so are they.”

Rapid Fire entire cinema hall, decorated it with flowers and balloons, played her favorite movie “Serendipity” on the screen, sprayed an entire bottle of “ Tommy Girl” in the hall because that’s her favorite perfume,” says Saif. This is a perfect date any girl would ever dream of. The man sure knows what works for a woman and his knack for details was a sure shot getter for him. He made the evening a perfect one for his beloved, an evening that she can remember and cherish for the rest of her life, fond memories aren’t they? “I was pleasantly surprised, just didn’t know what to say, he dumbfounded me by exceeding my expectations,” adds Moona. The rest as they say is history. Our Miss Perfect married our Mr. Perfect and they live happily ever after together. They have a cute 5 year old son named Ibrahim, whom they fondly call “Ibbi” and they call him their best joint possession. I am surprised as to how the story is all lovey - dovey with no twists and turns, because it is hard to digest that things can be easy when it comes to love. I goad them further if there were any real hiccups they faced. Saif says, “During our courtship period, some familial issues cropped up, it was emotionally demanding for both of us, but my mother ironed it out.” Moona agrees and adds, “I really love and respect my mother in law, she is an inspiration for me, it’s her effort that we got married and I really have a good time with her. She is not a typical mother in law. She is chilled out and both my mother in law and father in

Your idea of a perfect date Mona – The one that he planned for me. It just couldn’t get better. Saif – Mine too Greatest joint possession – Our son, Ebrahim One thing that you like about each other Mona – He is very loving and caring. Saif – She is very positive. Ideal holiday location Saif – USA Mona – Europe One thing that you don’t like about each other Mona – He is very sentimental. Saif – Her taurean temper scares me. (Laughs) The last holiday you took We went to Goa for our 7th anniversary and we did not take Eby with us. Who makes up after the fights? Mona – He is the one (pointing at Saif) Saif – Yes, I do.

hen we Hyderabadi’s want to show off our luxury wheels and drive around the city in it, there is just one thing which makes the driving experience sulking and boring even when you are driving best of the cars. Well, you don’t have to worry about it anymore. A new segment of car is here and one of the most classic luxury brands which took time to evolve but it did in a big big way, oh yes off late Mercedes-Benz has come out with a new segment of cars all together which is a “Sports Tourer”, oh yes it’s a different ball game all together, you saw SUV’s(Sports utility vehciles), Sedans, MPV’s(Muti Purpose Vehciles), Hatchback, Notchback, sports cars and the new LUV(Life utility vehicle). But have you ever heard of a sports tourer? Probably not, because this is one exclusive segment launched by pioneers of luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz.

So, Hyderabad are you READY TO B !

The new B-class is here. Let us quickly run you through what it has to b to be what the brand calls it “The ultimate sports tourer” With the launch of its flagship touring class vehicle, the B Class, Mercedes-Benz is seriously looking at catering to a new kind of luxury car segment in India. Touted as a Sports Tourer, the B Class is the first of its kind to be unveiled here in India and come September-October will be officially launched with an expected price tag of Rs 25 lakh. We offer you further insights into the overall utility and on road potential of this rich man's van and all the excitement that is building up around this first in segment vehicle from three pointed star and add to that all the Bollywood celebrities associated with the promotion and multitude 48 OCTOBER, 2012

of marketing initiatives being planned around the vehicle. To give you a little bit of history, the B-Class came into existence in 2005 and was pretty much an enlarged A-Class with the same engine and suspension. It even retained the distinctive sandwich floor concept which was meant for the battery-powered version of the A-Class. Now in its second generation, the all new B-Class or the W246 shares nothing with its predecessor and is pretty much a completely different animal. This was the first time I had laid my eyes on the B-Class and the first thing that hit me was the dimensions. Right from the W124 days

What we had was an import straight from Germany and as a result looked rather sporty with the well endowed 225 section 18 inch wheels (expect a more sober size for the Indian spec car) that filled those large wheel arches quite well. In fact it looks quite similar to the R-Class which falls in the Grand Sports Tourer category. The character line has been used quite boldly and slides all the way from the hip to the lower front of the car. The upswept headlights along with that twin slatted grille give the car quite an imposing front. All in all it’s a great design which is sure to appeal to all. Well, it has what its got to be, the sportiness the curves and guess what? You will be able to own a RED color Mercedes-benz with the color available for this sports car. Well, one thing is for sure, for someone who wants to drive in style and actually zoom away in the busy traffic lines, for them this one’s a perfect buy. Well, that’s not all it’s the most affordable Mercedes-Benz car yet. Its when we thought Audi and Beamers have taken over the quiet and classy luxury brand Mercedes-Benz, they are back with a BANG with this car for sure. So, people who thought they will have to wait till the time they save in a 40 plus lakhs for their dream car can invariably go for this Mercedes-Benz to enter the elite club of customers of Mercedes-Benz as this particular suave car model will cost you a approximate price of 30 lakhs. Fisrt thing, which you would do is that you would compare it to the X1 and Audi Q3, being a price sensitive market, this has to happen for sure. But here, this particular car which is first sports tourer of India has no competition with any other

car in the market. If you ask me personally this one for sure would have a spotlight in the busy traffic making it stand alone unlike the X1 or Q3. As the first model of Mercedes-Benz new generation compact car, the all-new B-Class luxury sports tourer embodies a great number of unprecedented cutting-edge technologies from Mercedes-Benz. We have never seen so many new developments introduced all at once to a model change in the history of Mercedes-Benz. The comprehensive technology package applied to the B-Class' drive system, aerodynamic performance, steering and braking as well as drive assistance and safety systems, has made this fascinating model a winner on all fronts. The brand believes that the all-new B-Class will bring a fresh and enjoyable driving experience and attract more successful young professionals to join the Mercedes-Benz family. As the pillar model of the Young Mercedes family, the new B-Class is equipped with a next-generation four-cylinder gasoline engine with direct injection and 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission. The new model once again sets a trend for the luxury sports tourer market segment with its dynamic new exterior, stylish high-quality interior, enhanced handling and agility as well as Mercedes-Benz's world-class safety technologies. Adopting industry-leading safety technologies, the B-Class has also set a new benchmark in its segment, with nine airbags and a number of high-end driving assistance systems, such as Attention Assist and Active Parking Assist. Relying on its innovative technology, the B-Class perfectly combines power, comfort and safety to provide a satisfying driving experience.

AUTOMOBILES

Ok, enough of hovering good things to it, there is one major let down too, after spending a whopping 25 lakhs and above on this machine, you will also have to drill a hole in your pockets if you are planning to buy this car within one year because for the next one year the car will only be available in the petrol variant. Well, now I would leave it to you if you are happy driving a good looking car spending a amount of money on it, would you want to go for a petrol car looking at the current fuel increasing trend.

TULIP

we Indians have been fed with the best of Stuttgart’s luxobarges and SUV’s which have naturally led us to believe that the three pointed star comes only with generously sized vehicles. The B-Class then will pretty much change that perspective..

One of the major USP’s of the luxury cars the intelligent light system is missing in the Indian version of the car, but lights are bright and gives a clear view of the road just like any other premium car and not the regular ILS technology. Another disappointment you might have with this car is the no inbuilt graphics on the car that you see in the advertisement. But then would you want to spoil the look of the car by dressing it up more? Well, I would like my car to be just the way it is and doing the graphics on it. A car as long as a C-class, new segment, no ILS, red option available, Mercedes-Benz entering the new price segment of 25 lakhs. We would leave it to you whether you would want to zoom around in the first sports tourer of India.

Overall

Well, it’s a 4 on 5 for this particular car, you would think why no negative points to this car? Well, what would you like your luxury car to give you? Safety, comfort, gadgets and style and what else would you want? Mileage? Really? Ok the good news is that it has all of it with a mileage of 16kmph. And is it a showoff? Well I would call this a silent luxury crowd puller which is going to make a lot of noise.

You team it with chunky wooden bangles and a nice long chain, put on your loafers and throw on your sling bag and voila you are ready to be the style chick on your campus. College and fashion have always gone hand in hand. And who said fashion is just about the clothes, it’s not just the coloured denims which are making a statement on campus, the accessories also are taking the glam quotient high. Riya Saad says - “Fashion to me is following the latest trends be it clothes or accessories. Accessorizing is something I love to do. It helps me be unique and stand out from the crowd. I love the new mobile covers that have come up, I have a collection of mobile covers, it is like each for a day in the week, and my favorite are the angry bird mobile covers that have come up.” Chunky bangles are very bold and metallic and wooden chunky bangles are catching up. Even a simple jeans and top can be zinged up by adding these chunky bangles. The multicoloured and thread bangles, for now, just need to be put away at the back of your closet. “Boys don’t make passes to girls who wear glasses.” who ever said that? Today spectacles are styled up and add to your smart side. The latest ones to hit the block are the Hello Kitty glasses. They are extremely cute and very in. And when we talk about cute how can we miss out on the extremely cute hair bands and clips. If you want to keep it cute and chic go with the “Blair Waldorf style”, They give you the cute school girl look but are extremely stylish. A mobile phone cover is very stylish and it helps you get your personality out .There are a range of mobile covers which vary from angry birds, hello kitty, animated cartoon covers, cover with brand logos, to neon coloured rubber covers, you have a wide range to choose from and you can be spoilt for choice.

Rupal adds in – Fashion keeps changing every year and it gives me a chance to try out every colour. The latest trend these days are the baggy tops with matching neckpieces, it’s stylish and eye catching and I simply adore the charm neckpieces” . Something which just cannot be missed on the college campus is the sling bags. They can simply be thrown over the shoulder and are super glamorous. They are a must have with the college goers. They add in the “it girl” look on you and are simply stylish. Another style accessory are the loafers, they are equally popular with boys and girls. Something which are totally up for grabs. Vaishali Sirhoia a second year student of advertising says- “Fashion to me is anything casual and comfortable, yet very chic. Just a nice top and a comfortable pair of jeans, but to glam it up I add scarves, cute hair accessories like clips and hair bands. They are very cute, help my hair remain in place and are very trendy .I love colour and I am a big fan of the neon range accessories which have come in the market. A dash of neon in my accessories and it adds the spark to my wardrobe.” Slim belts in bright colours such as red, pink, orange and white are something which every girl must have in her wardrobe. They can be worn with coloured denims, your regular blue jeans, checked shirt , printed tops and just about anything , but make sure you tuck in the shirt so you can show off these belt. Long charm neckpieces are another accessories which are catching up very fast.

Ishita an advertising student says “I am a fashion freak and am crazy about clothes, watches, bags and shoes. I love lots of colours and these days everything is about colour, I love the new coloured pants, and big dialed colourful watches and sling bags. My wardrobe is always filled with trendiest fashion available in the market. I dress up in a simple way and still keep it trendy and stylish. Watches and sling bags are the accessories I carry everyday without which I am incomplete! When it comes to footwear I love the loafers which are really in vogue now.” So go ahead, sling it on loaf it up and hang it along- Glam up your campus look with the super stylish accessories and be ready to catch some eyeballs.

Surbhi Jain a student of Villa Marie College says – “I love to dress in clothes which I am comfortable in and which I can carry of very proudly. I wear clothes in fashion and accessorize them with the apt accessories. My fashion status is to be “simple and sweet”, so that my confidence level never goes down. It automatically grabs attention. I love the slim belts as they can add up a dash of colour and style to simple jeans and top. Another accessory I love to wear are the long chains, I find them super stylish, I think when worn with anything it can just glam up the dress.

ROBERT PATTINSON AND KRISTEN STEWART

DREW BARRYMORE

Is Expected To Deliver In October

H O L L Y W O O D

The 37-year-old is pregnant with her first child, and with a new husband and her future looking bright, the actress is looking

forward to raising a family. Drew Barrymore is looking fabulously pregnant these days. Even though she still has about a month until her due date, but looks like she could be ready any day now. “I can’t wait until I have my children,” she said in an interview. Barrymore was married only a few months ago to Will Kopelman, and the two are talking about how they will raise their family. The actress has had a somewhat rocky life, with her famous family and becoming a star at such a young age. She grew up in the spotlight and dealt with drugs and alcohol before finally returning to Hollywood and becoming a certified movie star. Barrymore is happy with her life and her decisions now, and it sounds like she wouldn’t change a thing. “To be quite honest, I’m happy in my own life,” she added. “I don’t need to play at being someone else right now. Acting is something I’ve done my whole life, but directing is great. I get to be in my own clothes and go home to my husband, and that seems really normal and fun and feels very creative.” With a brand-new husband and baby and a thriving career, Barrymore really has accomplished all she ever wanted.

Getting Back?? Yeah, we did give you news last month that the couple has broken up. But, reportedly, the couple has decided to give their romance another shot. The couple’s relationship was left in tatters when the 22-year-old actress was photographed cheating on Pattinson with married film director Rupert Sanders. The Twilight co-stars are said to have had a tearful heart-toheart, with the 26-year-old actor eventually deciding to forgive his girlfriend for what he considers to be a ‘stupid mistake’, reported a magazine. “They pretty much decided they couldn’t live without each other. Kristen poured her heart out to Robert and told him it was a one-off and a mistake,” a source said. The pair are now said to be moving into a secluded Los Angeles home together and are hoping to rebuild their relationship. “Rob sees it as Kristen made a really stupid mistake. After a lot of long tearful talks, they’ve worked it out. Rob can see how truly sorry Kristen is and has totally forgiven her. They really do love each other,” the source added. Stewart seems to have been quietly confident about making amends with Rob for some time. Back in July, Stewart was photographed in the arms of father-of-two Sanders. In the wake of the news, both were quick to make public statements saying that their tryst had been a mistake.

SHAKIRA Is Pregnant For all you Shakira fans, there is good news and a bad news. You can be happy about the fact that your favorite “hips don’t lie” rock star is going to be a momma soon, but you have to be sad that she might take a little break from her music career because of that, we know you will miss her killer moves but till then, you can rejoice with her good news. According to a post on the singer’s official website and Facebook page, Shakira is pregnant with her first child. The announcement was short and simple (and in both Spanish and English), but did mention that a planned appearance at Las Vegas’ iHeartRadio Music Festival would have to be cancelled. The statement from Shakira is as follows: As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days. This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, but I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there! I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding. Big kiss! And will see you very soon! Shakira. We wish the new mommy a happy and healthy motherhood experience. 52 OCTOBER, 2012

PARINEETI Is not single!!

B O L L Y W O O D

Our very own, the bubbly and charming girl, Parineeti Chopra is in a relationship. She is often spotted hanging out with Maneesh Sharma who she has been apparently dating for a while now. Parineeti Chopra, with a charming on screen presence in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl and also Ishaqzaade, had a lot of male hearts beating for her. But the young actress seems to have found her match already. And it isn’t her Uday ‘Sir’ (Chopra) or Jackky Bhagnani as rumored. Parineeti has been dating the director of her debut film Maneesh Sharma for a while now. In fact, their relationship has become so strong with time, that both are in a comfortable happy space now, say sources close to the couple. Parineeti met Maneesh on the sets of Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl and over time love blossomed between the two. Incidentally, Maneesh was in a steady relationship with one of his colleagues until Parineeti came into his life. Apparently, Parineeti, who stars in Maneesh’s next project as well, accompanied him to Jaipur for a recce in July this year. But as far as outings in Mumbai are concerned, the couple is rather careful. They have made sure that only their close friends know about their relationship as they are not comfortable discussing about it in public. We are really happy for the lovey-dovey couple and wish them the best!

YUKTA MOOKHEY Files for Divorce Former Miss World Yukta Mookhey’s marriage is in shambles. The Mumbai girl, who had moved to Nagpur after her wedding in November 2008 to hotelier Prince Tuli, returned to Mumbai three months ago and filed a domestic violence complaint at the Amboli police station. Ever since then, she has been staying with her three-year-old son at her parents’ house in Andheri. Mookhey was crowned Miss World in 1999 and at the age of 20 and had later acted in a few Bollywood films. Tuli is a businessman and a financial consultant. The couple had grown distant quite some time ago, though the two managed to hide the cracks in their relationship pretty well. Close sources of the couple say that apparently, Yukta wanted to shift to Mumbai to further pursue her acting career, but her in-laws were not very comfortable with that. Probably that was the flash point of the rift between the couple. Sources felt that there seemed to be a great mismatch to start with, “Yukta couldn’t adjust with the relaxed environs of a sleepy city like Nagpur, as she was accustomed to the flashy lifestyle of Mumbai.” Since, the couple is tight lipped about the issue, the media can only speculate. Let’s wish the couple gets back for a happy ever after.

SAIF - KAREENA’S

Wedding Date – Finally!! Finally, yes finally, the most talked about couple in bolly-town, Saif and Kareena, will be tying the knot in mid October (16th or 17th) 2012. This announcement was made by Saif’s mom, Sharmila Tagore Pataudi. Reportedly, the wedding invitations are also being sent to the invitees. Though, Kareena is keeping mum about it, we know it’s going to be one big gala affair. Manish Malhotra, who is Kareena Kapoor’s favorite designer and friend will be doing her ensembles for most wedding functions, he will be designing something simple yet elegant in Red, as Kareena likes it. For the wedding day, Kareena will be wearing her to be “mother - in – law’s”, wedding sharara. We find that totally adorable Bebo, that was pretty thoughtful and sweet of you! On asking whether she would be converting into Islam after marriage, Kareena found it offensive and clearly mentioned that she will not be answering such questions. Let it be known that Sharmila Tagore converted into Islam soon after her marriage with Nawab Pataudi; she adopted the name of Ayesha Begum. Also, she mentioned that she will be called Kareena Kapoor Khan after marriage, this way she will have the two most famous Bollywood surnames added to her identity. Further on, news is that Saif and Kareena recently got a Greh – Pravesh pooja done for Saif’s newly acquired flat in Khar, Mumbai. They are supposed to be shifting into it post marriage. Now, that’s good news for the couple in love, we are looking forward to their grand wedding.

She will be seen shaking legs with Akshay Kumar in the film, which will be a remake of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Blockbuster flick Tagore. MCLAREN’S CAR DESIGN

ALEX ZANARDI

Is Based On Lewis Hamilton Staying

Wins Hand cycling Gold

McLaren say they are designing their 2013 car on the assumption Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will be their two drivers next season. The BBC recently reported Eddie Jordan’s claim that Hamilton had agreed a move to Mercedes - although Hamilton insisted he had yet to decide. But, McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe said it was their “assumption” that Hamilton would stay. “That’s how we’re working in terms of the design for next year,” he said. Hamilton, who is out of contract next year, has said he is in no rush to finalize a deal for next year and insisted that he is 100% focused on winning the title. The 2008 world champion has been with the team since he was 13. The last four races have seen the pole sitter take victory, with McLaren taking three of those. “It does seem there is a trend about being able to control the car and the use of the tires if you’re leading from the front,” Lowe said. “We’ve certainly noticed it and it may cause us to do some things differently.”We’re in a position where we can qualify well at the moment, which has proved to be a benefit relative to our race pace which has been relatively weaker. “Last year, the opposite was the case. So we’re in a great position this year for the remaining races.”

TIGER WOODS Happy with 2012 season Tiger Woods has not won a major title in more than four years but he is delighted with his progress this season, highlighted by three victories on the PGA Tour, after a frustrating 2011 campaign cut short by injury. The American former world number one missed three months, and two of the four majors, last year after injuring his Achilles during the Masters in April. “This has been a really good season to come back from last year, not being able to play at all, and then being able to train properly and practice properly,” “Hence I’m producing the results I know I can produce. I’ve made some great strides this year. I went from probably most of my career not being a very good driver of the ball to now being one of the better ones out here on tour. “That is exciting for me. That is one of the reasons why my scoring average is where it’s at right now. I’ve been very consistent.” Helped by his three wins on the 2012 PGA Tour, Woods lies second behind Rory McIlroy in the Fed Ex Cup point’s standings coming into this week for the fourth and final playoff event of the season. “My short game is finally starting to come around too, which is nice,” said Woods. “I made some good changes this summer, and they’re finally starting to click in.” 58 OCTOBER, 2012

Italy’s Alex Zanardi won his second Paralympics gold of the London Games with victory in the hand cycling road race at Brands Hatch. The ex-Formula 1 driver, who lost both legs following a crash in 2001, won the H4 hand cycling time trial on Wednesday. And the 45-year-old followed it up with a sprint finish to take the road race ahead of South Africa’s Ernst van Dyk and Belgian Wim Decleir. Zanardi had both legs amputated following a Cart accident in Germany. “To win this race in this way, in such a dramatic way and sprinting makes me really proud,” Zanardi said. “It shows that I am a complete cyclist, even if I have no legs.”The race did not go as I expected. I thought that I could take off soon and that I would only need to stay calm, but at the fourth lap I tested my opponents and understood my tactic would not work, so I changed it completely and only tried to save, save and save. “I managed my energies well. It’s been a tough race; I could have very well lost it.” Last year Zanardi won the New York marathon at the fourth attempt and also claimed world time trial silver.

ENGLISH VINGLISH RAAZ 3 The story revolves around Shanaya (Bipasha Basu), an actress at the height of her success. She gets offered the best roles and wins all the awards she’s nominated for. In addition, she also has a passionate affair with a handsome director named Aditya (Emraan Hashmi). This all ends when a younger actress, Sanjana (Esha Gupta) makes her film debut. Suddenly, Shanaya seems forgotten and everybody only wants to work with Sanjana. Soon enough, Aditya also leaves Shanaya for Sanjana, and Shanaya sees her career fading away and she slowly becomes crazy. She begins to turn to black magic and makes it her goal in life to destroy Sanjana and get back the man she loves, Aditya. HEROINE An actress who can carry off just about anything on screen and a director with a penchant for relatable storylines — Kareena Kapoor and Madhur Bhandarkar are one jodi many have been rooting for. And while Kareena does not disappoint as the beautiful but heartbreakingly vulnerable protagonist, Heroine is hardly ‘the scandalous and voyeuristic journey’ that Bhandarkar had promised it would be. One does get a glimpse of failed relationships, shattered egos and insecure co-stars lurking ‘behind closed doors in make-up rooms and vanity vans’. But the tale of an out-of-luck film star, who suffers one setback after another, both personally and professionally, is hard to endure. Kareena steps effortlessly into the shoes of Mahi Arora who tries every trick in the book to regain her lost glory at the box-office. And as she grapples with love, passion, jealousy and insecurity, one cannot help but think that no one else could have done justice to the role.

Starring: Sridevi, Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand, Adil Hussain English Vinglish is the story of a woman who does not know English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large. The film is a light - hearted yet touching and transformational journey of Shashi. Circumstances make her determined to overcome this insecurity, master the language, teach the world a lesson on the way to becoming a self assured and confident woman. FRANKENWEENIE Starring: Charlie Tahan, Frank Welker From the creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous. STUDENT OF THE YEAR Starring: Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt It is the story of Abhimanyu Singh and Rohan Nanda who traverse the path of competition, envy, triumph, failure, manipulation and heartbreak in their mini-universe of St. Teresa’s High School, Dehradun. Things are knotted up when Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt), the most popular girl on the campus enters the equation. Looming large over the various friendships in the campus is the Student Of The year trophy and Dean Yogendra Vasisht’s (Rishi Kapoor) emphasis on success and victory.

PICK OF THE MONTH

ooking at the title of the book, one wonders if it’s going to be a severe bashing and complaining exercise against the current Indian ways and values. Honestly, that it is, but it is more; yes, it offers solutions that are easy but often ignored or postponed by the decision makers of the country. This book is a very fast read like Chetan’s other books, minus the masala. In his simple and easy to understand language, Chetan explains the problems plaguing the Indian society and he also looks at the root cause of these problems. He lashes out at the Indian politicians for being corrupt; he bashes the Indian public for being “confused, valueless and very greedy”. The book is not a literary novel, nor will it motivate or move you, neither will it ignite a “fire” of patriotic fervor in you. But, it will convey a subtle but strong message to you; “SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND SOON”. After every chapter / section of the book, you’ll close the book and think deeply. And that’s where the book does the trick. It sets us thinking about what our role in the larger context of our country India is. This is a must read for everyone; it is cheap (moderately priced at 140 bucks) and the language is easy. I strongly recommend this for the youth because that’s where the lever for change lies.

rom the author who’s inspired millions worldwide with books like Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven comes his most imaginative novel yet, The Time Keeper-a compelling fable about the first man on earth to count the hours. The man who became Father Time. In Mitch Albom’s newest work of fiction, the inventor of the world’s first clock is punished for trying to measure God’s greatest gift. He is banished to a cave for centuries and forced to listen to the voices of all who come after him seeking more days, more years. Eventually, with his soul nearly broken, Father Time is granted his freedom, along with a magical hourglass and a mission: a chance to redeem himself by teaching two earthly people the true meaning of time. He returns to our world-now dominated by the hour-counting he so innocently began-and commences a journey with two unlikely partners: one a teenage girl who is about to give up on life, the other a wealthy old businessman who wants to live forever. To save himself, he must save them both. And stop the world to do so. Told in Albom’s signature spare, evocative prose, this remarkably original tale will inspire readers everywhere to reconsider their own notions of time, how they spend it and how precious it truly is.

n The Lost Years, Mary Higgins Clark, America’s Queen of Suspense, has written her most astonishing novel to date. At its center is a discovery that, if authenticated, may be the most revered document in human history— “the holiest of the holy”— and certainly the most coveted and valuable object in the world. Biblical scholar Jonathan Lyons believes he has found the rarest of parchments—a letter that may have been written by Jesus Christ. Stolen from the Vatican Library in the 1500s, the letter was assumed to be lost forever. Now, under the promise of secrecy, Jonathan is able to confirm his findings with several other experts. But he also confides in a family friend his suspicion that someone he once trusted wants to sell the parchment and cash in. Within days Jonathan is found shot to death in his study. At the same time, his wife, Kathleen, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, is found hiding in the study closet, incoherent and clutching the murder weapon. Even in her dementia, Kathleen has known that her husband was carrying on a long-term affair. Did Kathleen kill her husband in a jealous rage, as the police contend? Or is his death tied to the larger question? Who has possession of the priceless parchment that has now gone missing? It is up to their daughter, twenty-eight-year-old Mariah, to clear her mother of murder charges and unravel the real mystery behind her father’s death. Mary Higgins Clark’s The Lost Years is at once a breathless murder mystery and a hunt for what may be the most precious religious and archaeological treasure of all time.
