How to enrol

Winner of Grampians Learn Local Legend Award

We take enrolments Tuesday to Friday between 10 am and 4 pm.

Please note that your booking is not secured until full payment is made or a suitable payment arrangement is made with the House Manager.

Welcome to Our Term 3, 2017 Course Guide The year is flying by but I hope you have been able to enjoy some of the wonderful winter weather we have been experiencing recently. This term heralds some exciting developments with two new very low-cost courses targeted at young, disadvantaged learners in our region. We are very excited to have been awarded a Capacity and Innovation Fund Grant from the Adult Community and Further Education Board in partnership with BRACE Education & Training to fund our joint “Learn Locals Engage, Connect, Achieve and Sustain Project”. The project will give participants the opportunity to gain skills and to help create ‘mini’ pre-accredited certificate courses. The first stage of the project is planned to start in September with a short mini workshop that to train a group of young local learners in the areas of filming, sound recording, editing and post-production. We hope this will provide a lead-in to further study in a new, advanced, pre-accredited film and sound course to be available in October this year, once the professional training workshops are complete. During the advanced course, students will create training videos for two pre-accredited courses: ‘Return to Study’ (BRACE) and ‘Hospitality - Café Skills’ (HCLC) for use both here and at other community learning centres in the region. See page three of this guide for more information. Many of our popular classes will also be conducted again this term, with computers proving ever-popular. New last term, the “Create a WordPress Website” course was very popular and it is well worthwhile for anyone who runs a small business and would like to tap in to the vast online marketplace now available. We have also been asked to have more pastel art and polymer clay jewellery classes so we have included these workshops again this term due to those requests. The Monday night Haddon Quilters will be return after the school holidays, so if you love sewing, patchwork and quilting then why not come and join this friendly group who love to help, share their expertise and support each other with their projects. They will also be running some all-day workshops on Saturdays throughout the term so please see the Arts and Crafts section in this guide for more details on these and other offerings. Our very popular courses "Introduction to Horticulture and Permaculture”, “Introduction to Animals” and “First Aid for Pets” will be available again with students reporting these are the best short courses they have ever done with wonderful knowledgeable trainers. So please book early to secure a place. This will probably be the last time the Introduction to Animals course will be on this year as Indi is now super busy for the rest of 2017. And don’t forget, you can keep up to date with the latest news on courses and events by checking our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/HaddonCommunityLearningCentre/ and our website at http://haddonlearning.org.au/
