Rudi M. Brewster was a federal judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. He joined the court in 1984 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. He assumed senior status on July 1, 1988 and served until his death on September 7, 2012.[1]

Early life and education

Brewster graduated from Princeton University with his bachelor's degree in 1954 and later graduated from Stanford Law School with his J.D. degree in 1960. Brewster served in the US Navy on active duty from 1954 to 1957 and in the Naval Reserves from 1957 to 1981.[2]

Professional career

Brewster spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of California from 1960 to 1984.[2]

Judicial career

Southern District of California

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Brewster was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 24, 1984 to a seat vacated by Howard Turrentine as Turrentine assumed senior status. Brewster was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 15, 1984 on a senate vote and received commission on June 15, 1984. Brewster assumed senior status on July 1, 1998.[2] Brewster was succeeded in this position by James Lorenz.
