The Missouri Director of Agriculture is a state executive position in the Missouri state government.

The director serves as head of the Department of Agriculture, which was established in 1933. The department sets agriculture policy, assists farmers, and regulates the industry.

The mission statement of the department is "To serve, promote, and protect the agricultural producers, processors, and consumers of Missouri’s food, fuel, and fiber products."[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Chris Chinn, who was appointed by Gov. Eric Greitens in December 2016.[2][3] Chinn succeeded Richard Fordyce, who in turn followed Harry Bozoian. Bozoian was appointed director in October 2013 to replace Jon Hagler, who had been fired from the position.[4]

Duties

The Missouri Department of Agriculture sets agriculture policy and provides assistance to farmers throughout the state. Its duties include consumer protection, public health roles, environmental advocacy, agricultural marketing, public information and awareness, and promoting new technology and new uses for Missouri’s agricultural goods.[6]
