|Karl Catarata is a Henderson resident, a long-time advocate, and mentor to Nevada’s youth, and has worked in multiple levels of Nevada government to serve our community.
Karl is running for the NSHE Board of Regents because he believes every student should be able to receive a high-quality education that is both accessible and affordable.
- Affordable: Provide the best, high-quality postsecondary education at an affordable price.
- Accessible: Advocate for students in underserved areas of Southern Nevada.
- Nevada’s Future: Investments in career readiness and workforce development.
I'm interested in higher education and health and social welfare for our students. I believe that every student deserves an accessible, affordable, and excellent post-secondary education to better their quality of life.
In my race for the Nevada System of Higher Education, I look up to Lilly Hing Fong, the first Asian American Pacific Islander teacher in the Clark County School District. She was one of the very first Asian American University Regents, and a building at UNLV is named after her. Her legacy and story continue to inspire me to seek new heights in my service to others. I urge all Nevadans to read about her legacy and the path she carved out. I hope to do the same in my race.
Responsibility. Reliability. Readiness. These are qualities that I possess that would make me a successful officeholder for the NSHE Board of Regents District 6.
I want to make sure every student knows that if they fight and work hard for their dreams and goals, they can make them happen.
I was born to a family of Democrats and Republicans. When I was younger, Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman would always come to our family's dinners and functions. At a young age, I learned that the more you connect with the community, the more you get to know about the issues around Las Vegas.
I first worked in Clark County Government when I was in high school. I worked at the Clark County Accessor's Office reviewing and assisting with valuing property in Southern Nevada that is subject to taxation. At a very young age, I learned first-hand the importance of accountability, hard work, and ensuring that government is accessible to all Nevada residents.
